8:04 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@TeXnician I will take a look. :)
@DavidCarlisle Boris asked for a custom format output, so we are planning this: gitlab.com/islandoftex/albatross/-/issues/7

8:33 AM
@PauloCereda Cool

@JosephWright quack <3

9:00 AM
Can someone help me figure out which other packages are loaded by the expl3 package and how? The code I wrote to automatically detect which packages load other packages, cannot find any \RequirePackage in expl3.sty so I'm confused how packages like xparse do seem to be loaded.
I'm guessing all the packages in the l3packages bundle.

@PHPirate the xparse and l3kernel code is included directly into latex when the format is made.

lol I'm stupid, you are right thanks!

9:14 AM
ooh now Lewandowski has a plate to put his pizza
@egreg ^^ :)

@PauloCereda Fancy, but a bit unnecessary .... there a big signs with the names of the towns in every train station you go through. Even if the train does not stop at this station, the signs are big enough to read while going through
(and to know that is cloudy or snowing, well, there is a window to look outside)
@PauloCereda Oh, that's so cute!

@samcarter ooh
@samcarter ooh

9:48 AM
@samcarter sharp tooths ;-)

@UlrikeFischer I wonder if they would like a job in the kitchen to open cans :)

@samcarter ooh a plan

@PauloCereda a good plan :)

@samcarter <3

@PauloCereda It is snowing outside

9:58 AM
@samcarter ooh snow

@PauloCereda ... and the temperature is around freezing point, yet I saw a cyclist wearing a t-shirt this morning :)

@samcarter brrrr

@PauloCereda exactly!

@samcarter Everything is covered in snow here and below zero temperatures. Yesterday I saw a guy having a stroll in shorts and sweat shirt. There is always one :þ

@Plergux :) I bet that was the cousin of bicycle-guy :)

10:09 AM
@samcarter lol, probably :p

10:36 AM
@DavidCarlisle confusing error message, I hope @JosephWright's code will improve that:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[hidelinks]{hyperref}

\usepackage[pdfauthor={Ulrike Fischer}]{hyperref}

\begin{document}
abc
\end{document}

@PauloCereda looks like a plan

@DavidCarlisle Thanks

13 hours ago, by Ulrike Fischer
@DavidCarlisle it was descriptive enough for me ;-)
moderna booster ...

@DavidCarlisle I got it hidden in a monster template ;-(

@PHPirate similarly you don't normally need to load expl3.sty it is mostly just a shell for compatibility.

10:44 AM
@DavidCarlisle In fact, it's just research for github.com/Hannah-Sten/TeXiFy-IDEA/issues/2142, I guess ;)

Obviously, yes :D Thanks for the clarification!

@PHPirate note you need a newish latex to have xparse pre-loaded, newer than many linux supplied tex installations for example.

@DavidCarlisle Do you know which version?

@PHPirate yes hang on, we have a change log:-)

10:47 AM
#########################
# 2021-06-01 Release

I see it, thanks! Will include that information.

11:03 AM
@UlrikeFischer Email coming up

@DavidCarlisle ooh quack

@PauloCereda नाश्ता

@DavidCarlisle line length is too short. They should use your steno method q q q

yo'
Austrian anti-vax leader died from covid ... as he treated himself with a bleach.

11:13 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh no

@UlrikeFischer I haven't tried the example yet

@DavidCarlisle it works fine if one use max_print_line=300, pdflatex and lualatex count bytes here.

@UlrikeFischer hmm not surprising for pdftex, luatex a bit odd but I suppose it won't change

@DavidCarlisle imho lua is not natively utf8.

@PauloCereda well-behaved one, that squirrel!

11:30 AM
@UlrikeFischer Lua isn't, but the tex side of luatex is natively unicode, character tokens are unicode and you don't easiliy get the utf8 byte sequence , so this tex side line count might be expected to be character based

@DavidCarlisle I somehow have the vage feeling that this came up already somewhere.

@UlrikeFischer Yes seems familiar

12:33 PM
@UlrikeFischer So we go with your plan :)

@JosephWright ;-)

1:01 PM
Is there any windows user around who could test this PR github.com/josephwright/beamer/pull/607 ? (I added a short test file in the comment as well as a link to download an audio file)

@samcarter where is the link?

@samcarter Not a Windows user, just using Windows :)
@samcarter Depends what it's fixing: something plays when I click the button.

@UlrikeFischer In the comment of the example

@samcarter Doesn't sound like the original audio at all

1:11 PM
@samcarter that's a large file ...

@UlrikeFischer If you have anything smaller which is compatible with multimedia?
@UlrikeFischer Should be 34 MB (but the download is slow)
@PhelypeOleinik mmm, that's not good then.

@samcarter There's a deafening noise with what sounds like the original song in the background. Maybe there's something with the properties of the audio file? (no idea actually, just guessing)

@PhelypeOleinik If I understand the bug report correctly, that's what the pull request tries to fix. But they are talking about TL2017, so no idea if that's still supposed to work.

@samcarter Oh, wait
@samcarter It works :)
@samcarter In slow-mo?

@PhelypeOleinik Oh, cool! Thanks for testing!
@PhelypeOleinik slow-mo?

1:21 PM
@samcarter Yeah. If I change bitspersample to 32 it sounds right
@samcarter Well, but I guess bitspersample is a property of the audio file, not detectable from within TeX, so maybe up to the user to set

@PhelypeOleinik Ah, if I wait until the singing starts, I can hear that too
@PhelypeOleinik might have been broken before, so idea ...

@samcarter it is a clear improvement, only to slow. With \sound[inlinesound,encoding=Signed,samplingrate=88200]{Click me!}{02DayIsDone.aif} it sounds fine.

@UlrikeFischer Thanks for the feedback! Then I'll merge it

@samcarter but I don't see why the patch remove the /Type/Sound from the dictionary, this shouldn't harm.
@samcarter if you start to correct it, you could also make it compatible to the pdfmanagment ;-)

@UlrikeFischer start to correct != clicking on a merge button :) I know nothing about multimedia files

1:33 PM
@samcarter yes, for me it worked too (but the type is optional, so removing it is okay too, only if it is there it should be /Sound as value).

@UlrikeFischer Ok, I'll try with it and see if anyone complains :)

@samcarter but imho the argumentation is wrong in the patch. It is not a bug in adobe, but clearly a multimedia bug, you are using encoding=Signed and the value this set was missing in the code. So the reader falls back to Raw (that is the default in pdf). With encoding=Raw one gets the bad screeching noise again ...

@UlrikeFischer Ok, I herby apologise to adobe for accepting a PR which incorrectly blames them for a bug :)

ADOBUG

@PauloCereda Sounds like a new character for en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miraculous:_Tales_of_Ladybug_%26_Cat_Noir :)

1:48 PM
@samcarter ooh

@Rmano Today, my newspaper had a review of this boardgame: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/34375/go-nuts

@samcarter ;-)

2:49 PM
@Plergux -- Around here in winter we often see guys (always male) in shorts, wool socks, and down jackets, and drinking iced coffee (women do that too). And when I was in college, I had a friend who wore his Birkenstocks all winter, even in the snow, just wearing thicker socks; he was Hungarian.

@barbarabeeton I'd freeze just looking at them. :)

@barbarabeeton Some people just have a different heating system, I suppose. Funnily enough my two metre, 100 kg husband usually complains a lot more about being cold than little old 170 cm and 60 kg me. He sleeps with three duvets and I've got two blankets. And then he demands we sleep with an open window XD
@PauloCereda You'd probably freeze looking at someone eat ice cream. :þ

@Plergux ooh ice cream

@PauloCereda *chomps ice cream

@Plergux ooh /faints

3:15 PM
@PauloCereda What? You don't chew your ice cream like other food? :þ

@Plergux ooh

4:06 PM
Trying to update MikTex, and keep getting repository outdated errors.

some people don't seem to understand the importance of regular ooh's: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/9068960#9068960

@samcarter ooh

@PauloCereda <3

@samcarter <3

@ScottSeidman wait a day or two.

4:21 PM
seems to go away when I set to "random site"

@ScottSeidman right, I added a remark to the issue here github.com/MiKTeX/miktex/issues/980

@UlrikeFischer Thanks

How can I typeset a left-right arrow over each other?
e.g., see the equilibrium arrow in tex.stackexchange.com/q/201835/38074
I am not doing chemistry, though, so using the mhchem package is not an option.

4:37 PM
@ComFreek \rightleftharpoons ?
@ComFreek or search for harpoon in texdoc.org/serve/symbols/0

@samcarter wonderful that works!

> Germany Moves Toward Mandatory Covid Shots as Europe Clamps Down

@PauloCereda ... and some politicians suggest that also vets could give the shots -- would be ideal for a duck like you

@samcarter quack :)

@samcarter ooh
@samcarter don't panic! <3

5:10 PM
@PauloCereda :)

@MarcelKrüger should font file names with spaces work in lualatex? I just tried \setmainfont{Font Awesome 6 Free-Solid-900.otf} and it fails (xelatex is fine with it). The font is installed in a texmf tree and \setmainfont{Font Awesome 6 Free Solid} works.

1 hour later…
6:37 PM
@UlrikeFischer luaotfload should support this, fontspec probably doesn't.

@MarcelKrüger right, \font\blub{file:Font Awesome 6 Free-Solid-900.otf} works fine. I will check if there is already a bug report for fontspec (and why it breaks only lualatex).

6:53 PM
@MarcelKrüger /poke

@UlrikeFischer It's the old problem that fontspec removes all spaces before passing the name to luaotfload. That's only done for LuaTeX, but I have no idea why it's done...

7:08 PM
oh

7:35 PM
@PauloCereda You got mail <3

2 hours later…
@samcarter When I first read I thought @DavidCarlisle ate the other half.

@mickep :P

@mickep roast half duck, a classic dish

9:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle You seem to be free: code to review :)

@JosephWright ah just seen mail, let me look...

10:08 PM
@MarcelKrüger ooh <3
@DavidCarlisle oh no

10:54 PM
@JosephWright Do you have an opinion about github.com/josephwright/beamer/pull/696 ? On the one hand I can see usefulness for e.g. distributing itemize items on a frame, on the other hand I don't particularly like that it will cause underful box warning by default unless the user manually adds something stretchable.
@JosephWright And any opinion about github.com/josephwright/beamer/pull/667/files ? I'm not totally convinced that underscores are so much better...
