@user202729 You can use \catcode"1D468=\active if you insist on staying with XeTeX. (Or \catcode``𝑨=\active (with one backtick of course) if you don't have weird catcodes set)

@user202729 yes (actually this came up in some latex team discussions just the other day) xetex support is rather frozen these days although it might get fixed one day

@user202729 Secret trick: You can avoid all kinds of issues in XeLaTeX and add additional features by running alias xelatex=lualatex first :P

... actually not that much, most of the slowness for me comes from pandoc and Unicode-math

@user202729 is unicode-math really slower? I'm surprised. There is a hit at the start when it loads unicode-math table but (a) that's easily avoided and (b) you woul dneed a similar number of definitions to enable unicode input with classic math setup.

It takes me 1.1s to use unicode-math + xelatex and 0.16s to use ucs + pdflatex

I'm still trying out different tools to see which is the most efficient. Sometimes even markdown isn't easy enough for me (will try TeXStudio and etc. later)

Although even this is not really fair because (if I recalled correctly?) inputenc only define actually used in document characters

@user202729 would be interesting to see how much of that is startup time (which can mostly be avoided by adjusting the format) unicode-math's \symb{...} commands are a bit slow as they change dozens of catcodes but if you are using direct unicode input that shouldn't be an issue. Or if the engine itself is slower handling the opentypoe math layout in each formula

@user202729 ? nothing scans ahead in a document in tex, it just reads line by line outputting as it goes, the document is never held in memory.

@user202729 ah that but that's not scanning the document that just means that if you use say \usepackage[LGR]{fontenc} it'll define theGreek input. Doesn't affect the math definitions at al as that is (in pdftex) a fixed set of encodings

But because the (supposed) goal of the stack site (at least that's what I think, simply because it uses stack's program) is to maintain a repository of questions

@user202729 if an answer becomes wrong due to a package update or whatever then if it comes up often add a comment pointing to newer information, but actually in that case my answer is still valid, you were commenting on old comments of egreg under the answer, they can't even be edited all that could hapen is that they are deleted

@PauloCereda It's a thing in southern Piemonte: they cover the interior of a small (shot-like) glass with Nutella and the they put an espresso in it and then some cream or concentrated milk. I think it's called "vetrino" or something similar, maybe @samcarter knows better. Waaaay too sweet for me.
