5:00 PM
@JosephWright Paragraph building is so fast, a program could reformat it when the cursor leaves the praragraph (I am not a user interface expert, but even InDesign solves that somehow)

@PatrickGundlach I suspect that this is a such a small part of a GUI layout application that it would be as easy to use the algorithm recoded in 'your choice of language' rather than want 'TeX as a service'
But as I say, I don't have the technical skills

@PatrickGundlach Someone tried that in a "well known" word processing system and the usability studies reported that people were more concerned about text moving around on screen than they were of getting better output, so it never made it into production builds

@JosephWright There is more to TeX than paragraph building. I use boxes and glue extensively when building complex tables for example

@PatrickGundlach Yes, but the question is whether it works at the interface level, and there I'm not so sure if the entire interface is different.
@DavidCarlisle I guess if we focus more on DTP then the trade-off is different

@DavidCarlisle as I said, I am not a user interface expert. But I could image in a "optimize paragraphs" function that reformats paragraph when requested. The same is done when asking for hyphenation in MS word, it does that on selected/all paragraphs.

5:03 PM
Hello folks!

I will show some demos at EuroTeX this year (still need to register)

An arrow goes slightly slant even with text height and text depth. :(
@N3buchadnezzar can you help me with a bit of Tikz? of course a request... :)

@KannappanSampath Maybe baby!

\begin{tikzpicture}
  % Tell it where the nodes are
  \node (A) {$A$};
  \node (B) [below=of A] {$B$};
  \node (C) [right=of A] {$C$};
  \node (D) [right=of B] {$D$};
  % Tell it what arrows to draw
  \draw[-stealth] (A)-- node[left] {\small $f$} (B);
  \draw[-stealth] (B)-- node [below] {\small $g$} (D);
  \draw[-stealth] (A)-- node [above] {\small $h$} (C);
  \draw[-stealth] (C)-- node [right] {\small $k$} (D);
\end{tikzpicture}
The code above produces a square whose one edge is distorted. :(
the last line in the code to be precise.

5:19 PM
@KannappanSampath Could you make it into a mwe ?
I am not sure which libaries to load etc.

@N3buchadnezzar Sure. :)
.

@KannappanSampath Also, I think I would use the matrix libary here ;)

OK. Will try and let you know.
BTW, I'd keep seeing these diagrams again and again. Can I make them macro?
@N3buchadnezzar OK. Matrix works! But can you please look at my previous question? :)

@KannappanSampath I still do not see any MWE!

I was saying this:
7 mins ago, by Kannappan Sampath
BTW, I'd keep seeing these diagrams again and again. Can I make them macro?
@N3buchadnezzar ^^ :)

5:29 PM
@KannappanSampath Sure

@N3buchadnezzar OK. can you please point me to a place where it's done?

@KannappanSampath Not sure what kind of macro is wanted
If the number of nodes vary, it gets tricky.
Otherwise it is not hard copying part of the code

@N3buchadnezzar I'd like to have 4 nodes on a square and 4 or less maps like:
\begin{tikzpicture}
  \matrix(m) [matrix of math nodes, row sep=2em, column sep=2em]
  {V & V \\
  W & W\\};
  \path[-stealth, font=\scriptsize] (m-1-1) edge node[auto] {$g$}(m-1-2)
                                            edge node[left]{$\vf$}(m-2-1)
                                  (m-1-2)  edge node[right]{$\vf$}(m-2-2)
                                  (m-2-1)  edge node[below] {$g$} (m-2-2);
\end{tikzpicture}
I'd like to be able to input all the nodes' names and the name of the maps.
\newcommand{}{}?

\newcommand{\nodematrix}[8]{\matrix(m) [matrix of math nodes, row sep=2em, column sep=2em]
{#1 & #2 \\
#3 & #4\\};
\path[-stealth, font=\scriptsize] (m-1-1) edge node[auto] {#5}(m-1-2)
edge node[left]{#6}(m-2-1)
(m-1-2) edge node[right]{#7}(m-2-2)
(m-2-1) edge node[below] {#8} (m-2-2);}

@N3buchadnezzar Thank you! :)

5:42 PM
Then use \begin{tikzpicture} \nodematrix{a}{b}...{h} \end{tikzpiture}
I guess

Hi @Herbert! :)

*hides tikzcode from herbert

@JosephWright People are used to building web pages, then testing them in 3 browsers. TeX's algorithems look far better then web pages do these days.

\sfshape

6:03 PM
@percusse: write a tikzheart here, please: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/68282/… :)

6:15 PM
@PauloCereda x = 16 sin(t)^3 , y = 13 cos(t) - 5 cos( 2t ) - 2 cos( 3t ) - cos( 4t ) , t \in [0,2pi]

@N3buchadnezzar Yay! :D

6:29 PM
@PauloCereda @N3buchadnezzar has it already :P
\begin{tikzpicture}[scale=0.1]
\draw[fill=red,thick,domain=0:2*pi,variable=\t,samples=100] plot ({16*sin(\t r)^3} , {13*cos(\t r) - 5*cos(2*\t r) - 2*cos(3*\t r) - cos(4*\t r) });
\end{tikzpicture}

@percusse ooh. :)
@JosephWright: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/68302/… You mean TextMate. :) I always capitalize the X in "normal" words as well, like Java's JTeXtfiled. :P

@N3buchadnezzar Can you make an answer for that? I have to tame my thesis template.

@percusse tex.stackexchange.com/questions/68282/… Here, someone else can add a picture, even though you did most of the work ;)

6:57 PM
YES! arara can be easily deployed into the TeX tree!

7:22 PM
@PauloCereda Well, I actually wrote 'TeXmate' as that's what I thought was asked about, but edited to 'TeXshop' as that was what was actually mentioned :-)

7:37 PM
@PauloCereda I've found your anti-matter twin. I shan't post the link because I don't want the universe to blow up but in browsing elsewhere on SE I found someone complaining that they were out of down-votes that day.
5

@AndrewStacey I'd assume that the vote limit is made up from all types of vote

@JosephWright Probably. It just amused me quite a lot.

Andrew: You're quite amusing like most other people on chat. :)

8:00 PM
@AndrewStacey ooh! :) Thou shalt post the link! I love exploding things. :)

8:10 PM
An entry for the 'bizarre titles' list

Q: What is a snake and what are they used for?

somoriI saw this referenced in a question about setting up microphones for drums. It seemed to be for collecting signals from multiple mics and passing them on to a single channel in a mixing desk. Is it basically a mixing desk with less features and a different shape?

@JosephWright LOL

Don't worry Ma, it's only witchcraft
3

@JosephWright The name of that cable in Portuguese is also amusing: medusa. :)

user19161
@JosephWright They are used for eating chickens.

@JasperLoy I was thinking more Live and Let Die

8:21 PM
@JasperLoy Or attacking badgers while singing about mushrooms. :)

@PauloCereda Indeed

@JosephWright :)

@PauloCereda Have you seen the footy one where the snake is having a fag?

@JosephWright ooh I love that one! England England England England England England!

8:22 PM
Very happy with that pic! ^^ :)

user19161
@KannappanSampath Did you use pgf?

@JasperLoy Tikz. :)
What do you think?

user19161
@KannappanSampath I prefer to call it pgf with small letters, so people know the package name is pgf.

user19161
@KannappanSampath Good for you. I prefer pstricks. :-)

@JasperLoy You know, most often, I am insane. :)

user19161
8:24 PM
@KannappanSampath No, you are not insane, I am insane.

Folks, I am very happy! I am learning!

user19161
@KannappanSampath By the way, it is TikZ and not Tikz. :-)

user19161
Also, it is time the author of Texmaker rename it to TeXmaker.

@JasperLoy OK. Noted. :-)

@JasperLoy That's only the base layer, of course

8:28 PM
Thanks for correcting me.

user19161
Anyone knows why Texmaker is not TeXmaker?

user19161
It's about the only editor that does not capitalize the X.

@JasperLoy In arara, I don't capitalize the X either. :)
By the way, the X is silent. :P

user19161
@PauloCereda I am sorry, I don't understand your joke at all. Where is the X?

@JasperLoy It's silent. :P
Sorry for my bad attempt of making a joke. :P

user19161
8:32 PM
@PauloCereda OMG!

@JasperLoy sorry. :P

user19161
Or rather, attempt at making a bad joke.

8:58 PM
Later folks!

@JasperLoy Yesterday a new version has been released: latex-community.org/home/news/47-news-latex-editors/…

user19161
@StefanKottwitz But the X is still small! :-)

@JasperLoy A small statement to the capitalization insanity.

tEx.
@StefanKottwitz o.O

Ok. I'll delete it before it gets starred.

user19161
9:10 PM
Yesterday I learned from canageek about OO.o. It took me a while to guess it referred to openoffice.org.

@StefanKottwitz Oh no, I wasn't fast enough. :)

user19161
@StefanKottwitz Well, I am fine with such things. The things said in the ELU room go way beyond what you said! :-)

@JasperLoy When I said OO the last time, it was because of a surprising fork.

@JasperLoy It could be daddy O with mummy O going to the party with little o. :)

user19161
I think many people still do not know about LibreOffice.

9:13 PM
Jesus, another bad joke.
I'll shut up now.

user19161
Though those using Linux would know since most distros have switched.

@PauloCereda How long? :-)

@JasperLoy The Apache Foundation is now in charge of OO. Their first public release happened not a while ago. :)
@StefanKottwitz 30 seconds. :)

@PauloCereda I'd say, less.

user19161
@PauloCereda That's quite a nice one.

9:16 PM
@PauloCereda But you said, now. Not, in the next seconds.

@StefanKottwitz Quantum probability. :)
Herbert was here in the chat, yay!

user19161
@PauloCereda When?

@JasperLoy A little while ago, but no messages.

user19161
@PauloCereda Oh, I never saw him in chat. I want to tell him how good I think pstricks is!

Yet another weird reason to have some beers:
\begin{chat}
\if\blabla<100k
\spammoar
\else
\write\h@@ray
\fi
\end{chat}

9:22 PM
ooh we are close to 100k messages!

user19161
@PauloCereda With my small talk, we will get there in no time!

@JasperLoy :)

user19161
I am the tenth most talkative person on SE if you check the chat users page.

We need to wait for @egreg. :) He has to be here for the 100k messages achievement. :)
@JasperLoy Oh! :)

@JasperLoy \tiny{\lipsum[1-150]}

user19161
10:03 PM
Today here is my birthday. I will have some wine later...

@JasperLoy Happy birthday! :)

user19161
@PauloCereda I remember you announced yours as well!

@JasperLoy Good times. :)

A friend of mine got married a few weeks ago, and me suprised him today at school.
We gave him some pokemon cards, a cake and the book "Dating for dummies"

@JasperLoy Some more math: One could say that 20% of all messages were posted by 0.5% of all users :-)

user19161
10:11 PM
@N3buchadnezzar Oh dear, he should pass the book back to you now!

My next plan is to write a texbot. :)
So we would type texbot: \meaning\foo and then voilà! :D

@PauloCereda Intergrate it with \kantlipsum

user19161
lipsum looks like limsup or limit superior. :-)

@N3buchadnezzar Better! :) It will generate random sentences based on our talks and always reply in the chatroom when its name is mentioned. :)

@PauloCereda textbot: ducks ducks latex latex latex beer beer adult things adult things

10:23 PM
@N3buchadnezzar oh no, you are already poisoning my bot. :P

11:10 PM
@PauloCereda I've seen the call for the 100k messages. You're allowed to use kantlipsum, if you like: there are almost 200 paragraphs. :)

user19161
Speaking of kantlipsum, have you guys heard this? Genghis Khan but Immanuel Kant.

@Speravir: should we delete the comments? I think it is better.

11:33 PM
@egreg Wow, lots of paragraphs! :)
