I am not proficient in making tables using LaTeX. Could someone help me out ? Please !
Thank You!

6:47 AM
@AlanMunn Totally agree

7:23 AM
Whenever, I use framebreaks in bibliography the frametitle adds an increment number. How to stop that from happening ?

8:27 AM
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 definite proof, you should use picture mode not tikz: tex.stackexchange.com/a/601867/1090

8:51 AM
@AlanMunn ooh a PlayStation emulator
Hey friends, did you guys get this too? tlmgr: Strange, Asana-Math mentioned but not found anywhere!
@DavidCarlisle quack

@PauloCereda no

@DavidCarlisle hmm I blame my repo, FAU
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 ^^

but I haven't run tlmgr

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PauloCereda tlmgr: Strange, Asana-Math mentioned but not found anywhere!

9:05 AM
@DavidCarlisle OOH

@PauloCereda ask on tl list?

If David gets it, it must be true
@DavidCarlisle that's a good idea

@PauloCereda You have to trust Oxford even if not FAU

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PauloCereda or use Comic Sans instead of Asana

9:08 AM
This message is triggered when:
  # in a first round we check only for forcibly removed collections
  # this is necessary to NOT declare a package that is contained
  # in a forcibly removed collections as auto-install since it appears
  # in the @remoteexpansion_full, but not in @localexpansion_full.
But we should not check source, it's useless. :)
@DavidCarlisle ooh
@DavidCarlisle Whe never had this error before when siunitx v2 was around. Now that we have v3...

@PauloCereda good point, so we can blame @UlrikeFischer

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@DavidCarlisle good morning ;-)

@UlrikeFischer morning

@DavidCarlisle quack

9:21 AM
@UlrikeFischer what's the difference between root and phantom:-)

@DavidCarlisle you triggered something ;-)

9:40 AM
@DavidCarlisle hm, using amsmath is a bit cheating isn't it ;-). Without is \sqrt seems to work, but \sqrt[3] not.

@UlrikeFischer d'oh it only uses the box construction if there is an index.....

@DavidCarlisle I checked the code ;-)

@UlrikeFischer so did I but by searching latex.ltx for uses of mathpalette not starting at the user command:-)
@UlrikeFischer given that sqrt has the extra braces already in amsmath I can't see any reason not to same in the format

10:01 AM
@DavidCarlisle could we move the amsmath definition? Or does it depend on to much other things?

@UlrikeFischer didn't look, I got distracted by \def\textit#1{{\it #1}}%

@DavidCarlisle ??

@DavidCarlisle ?

@DavidCarlisle !

ieeeaccess.cls for latest q on site, I actually picked it up from some random github one I hope this isn't the official IEEE version but I'll see if t Ohe P says which version he was using

10:09 AM
@JosephWright if I create a new object in l3pdf, do you know how I should at best access the object reference in lua?

@UlrikeFischer No, afraid not - one for @MarcelKrüger I think

@PauloCereda I didn't know the stated error was even possible! tex.stackexchange.com/q/601853/1090

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@JosephWright in his luamml code I found the following, which looks as if we are missing a lua interface here:
local function get_mathml_ns_obj()
  mathml_ns_obj = mathml_ns_obj or token.create'c__pdf_backend_object_tag/NS/mathml_int'.index
  return mathml_ns_obj
end

@DavidCarlisle also, @PhelypeOleinik let vim in the last place. Preposterous!

10:14 AM
@UlrikeFischer Quite possibly - this isn't something we've looked at

@JosephWright arrrrrg \def\year#1{\gdef\theyear{#1}} has an interesting effect on pgf date calculations. (I think I have seen this before somewhere)

@Plergux baa <3

@PauloCereda quack! :D

@DavidCarlisle where is that from? also from this ieee class?

10:34 AM
@UlrikeFischer people have been reporting it since 2013 tex.stackexchange.com/questions/91262/…

@DavidCarlisle oopp
@DavidCarlisle That won't help :)

@DavidCarlisle yes, I just managed to get if from the "official" source by choosing journal and then access, and it still has the error. template-selector.ieee.org/secure/templateSelector/…

@DavidCarlisle the problem is clearly using a documentclass which does not already load half of tikz by default :)
@PauloCereda :) given the names of your computers, shouldn't you use some English mirror?

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 ooh that's a good point :)
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 but I wub Germany <3

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 I note you don't remind him of his geographical location

10:49 AM
@DavidCarlisle a duck is not constrained to one geographical location - way to easy to fly somewhere else

@yo' @PauloCereda is there any chance that at least the version of ieeeaccess.cls pre-installed at overleaf doesn't completely break latex? overleaf.com/latex/templates/ieee-access-latex-template/… see

Q: Conflict between necessary packages

Daniele CuomoI am using a template with this preamble: \documentclass{ieeeaccess} \usepackage{cite} \usepackage{amsmath,amssymb,amsfonts} \usepackage{algorithmic} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{textcomp} I also need to add these packages: \usepackage{tikz} \usetikzlibrary{quantikz} However there is a fat...

What do I need to modify here (tex.stackexchange.com/a/601754/114006) to remove the extra blank space created at the end for \chapquote{Quote texts}[Quote author][]?

1:31 PM
@raf well i wouldn't do it that way, wipet avoids using all latex constructs on principle, which sometimes is fine but defining latex optional arguments that way makes no sense

raf
@DavidCarlisle Can you please write up an answer there? :)

1:44 PM
@UlrikeFischer მუდმივად ვიყენებ

@DavidCarlisle ;-). I think this package is incomplete (and its documentation is only usable for people not reading documentation ...)

@UlrikeFischer I didn't see any documentation so that's OK but I posted an example of it running on Overleaf:-)

2:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle they are getting greedy, now they also want english, what will come next? german?

@UlrikeFischer ကျွန်တော်ဘာသာစကားများစွာပြောတတ်ပါတယ်

2:47 PM
@UlrikeFischer I thought it seemed odd. Is there a better user-level fix?
@UlrikeFischer babel's \let\org@LaTeX\LaTeX probably did something slightly more useful when it was written, but now \LaTeX is robust it's pretty weird.

@DavidCarlisle Well they could simply redefine in begindocument. But the babel code looks odd. Apart from the question why it cares about PU/PDI, if there is a problem with \LaTeX with some fontencodings, then this should be corrected by us, not by babel imho.

3:36 PM
Where do class writers get the idea that classes should load all the packages they think users will need. Idiocy.

@AlanMunn memoir? :-)

@DavidCarlisle lol. Not what I had in mind.

@JosephWright -- When is the 2021 Community Ads supposed to become active? I've just gotten an ad for TUG 2020 (again!). This is very discouraging.

@barbarabeeton The deadline is August 2nd, so I think the ads will go active after that. That said, I think that editing the 2020 ad changes what is displayed in the site...

7:59 PM
@PhelypeOleinik -- Thanks. That's rather abominable.
@JosephWright -- Can you please edit the 2020 TUG meeting ad, replacing it with TUG 2021?

I have to ask something:
Is the word 'wisenheimer' actually a common or understandable word for English native speakers?
(In German there is only the less polite 'Klugscheißer', but that can't really be translated.)

@cis no
@cis google translate doesn't know it either, it just leaves it unchanged. (but it can translate the latter word so now I can guess what the first word means:-)

@barbarabeeton Done

@JosephWright @barbarabeeton's message reminded me to register as well:-)

cis
Uppsss....

https://dict.leo.org/englisch-deutsch/klugschei%C3%9Fer

@cis -- I don't know about UK usage, but in the U.S., among "natives" whose family background is German, "wisenheimer" is reasonably common, at least it was when I was growing up.

8:34 PM
@cis yes as I say it translated Klugscheißer but I don't think either word would be recognised in UK English I had no idea what it meant, and google translate didn't help which indicates it isn't very common in the kinds of documents that google transalte sees,

cis
@barbarabeeton @DavidCarlisle

So I would be interested in the standard translation of 'Klugscheißer' (maybe 'smart-ass') into English.

It happens a lot in the translated movies, so I suppose there is a standard term.

@DavidCarlisle and @cis -- I understand it as "smart aleck".

@cis that is what google translates it as, which is OK but a bit rude, smart aleck is a more polite version, clever dick (or possibly more coloquial but common as I grew up) would be "clever clogs"

cis
@DavidCarlisle Ahhh haa. So it's not that bad as in German.
A word with "....heimer" is German too, I think. "...heim" is sth. like a suffix for a place or city name.
("Heim" = home)

8:51 PM
@cis -- My grandparents were German. Their children (my parents, aunts and uncles) used many German phrases in their everyday (Am. English) speech, and were quite careful not to use profanity around the younger generation, so "wisenheimer" was quite acceptable. It was usually used in the context "Don't be a wisenheimer", and more often directed at boys than at girls.

9:09 PM
Does anyone know why \documentclass[tikx, border=1 cm]{standalone} works? (tikx not tikz). It is not mentioned in the manual.

Sep 13 '18 at 12:01, by David Carlisle
@PhelypeOleinik as long as you define "work" with care.
@hpekristiansen You get a warning: LaTeX Warning: Unused global option(s): [tikx]. and if you try to use any TikZ command you get an error about an undefined command
@hpekristiansen Global (class) options do not error by design, because you may pass options to packages from there, so for example, there may be a package that has a tikx option

Cool - thanks. In the example, I use PGFPlots, but I guess it loads tikz.

@hpekristiansen Yes, it does

10:08 PM
@JosephWright seen the soft 404 message:-)
