Oh my, that bill of rights tracing took 3 hours.
My cat jumped into my keyboard five times.

@AndrewStacey I'm reminded about the story of the CD they were going to glue to Voyager to take out into space. "What music?" they asked. "Bach!" someone said. The Carl Sagan said "but that would be boasting"...
@PauloCereda Is that all \sections, or just a few?
@PauloCereda This has to be a proof of the Riemann hypothesis! "But the memory of my TeXt processing system is too small to contain it"
@JosephWright Very interesting. Even in those days, when I was very young, the vested IP interests got it 'taken down'
My Emacs keyboard muscle-learning is taking over my brain. I keep using Emacs keystrokes in places they're not understood. I'm scared!
OK talking to myself here..

hmm tex--xet beginR endR only work in horizontal mode and \halign columns need vertical mode. That seems suboptimal, I wonder how easy would it be to make columns go RTL from lua ...

Q: Convert a figure in black and white at compile time

auinoIs it possible to include a color figure and export it in black and white, converting it at compile time? Something like the following: \includegraphics[blackandwhite]{myfigure.png} % Not working code!!

Duplicate with:

Q: Can \includegraphics be used to change an image color?

MittenchopsI'm including a number of PDF images in my document using \includegraphics. I'm wondering if there's a way for LaTeX to adjust their color profile, hopefully the same way it can flip images upside down, resize, and crop, as here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Importing_Graphics#Including_gr...

@PauloCereda The original is specifically asking about PDF and the new implicitly asks for PNG, but given that the same answer "works" for both then I agree.
(and have voted accordingly)

@AndrewStacey Ah yes, you are right. :)

@PauloCereda You (or I, but I'm lazier than you) could leave a comment on the original to the effect that there's nothing special about PDF or xetex here.

@AndrewStacey ooh that's hard. :) How does this sound: "It's healthy to note that neither the image filetype (.pdf, .jpg, .png, etc) nor the engine per se have influence on \includegraphics, so the macro will behave the same for all cases."

@PauloCereda Looks good to me.

10:20 AM
@AndrewStacey Done, thanks. :)
@AndrewStacey: now let's watch Heiko answer that question with some sorcery that actually "grayscale" an image! :P

Q: How to fix missing or incorrect mappings from glyphtounicode.tex

user14996glyphtounicode.tex has been described as the best solution for generating copy-and-pasteable symbols. However, I find that various symbols that I need to use do not paste as the appropriate Unicode codepoints/characters. How can I fix this? This is how my macros should be pasting: \nSubset: ⋐̸...

A: How to fix missing or incorrect mappings from glyphtounicode.tex

user14996The following concrete solution is based on Ulrike Fischer's answer: Solution, part 1 (using \pdfglyphtounicode): The following lines help with the first batch of symbols: \pdfglyphtounicode{notsubsetdbl}{22D0 0338} \pdfglyphtounicode{simequal}{2245} \pdfglyphtounicode{notsimequal}{2247} \pdfgl...

@PatrickGundlach Indeed, I'd moved the text the OP added to the question into a CW answer, but then they came back and said they were going to add an answer. That's now done, so I've removed my CW answer.

Q: Iterative method to solve nonlinear equations

user1558112The following code belongs to problems of the fluidynamics... The equation \begin{equation} \label{equ:z6} \frac{1}{\sqrt{\lambda}} = 2 * log (Re * \sqrt{\lambda}) -0,8 \end{equation} can't be solved directly..... Anyone know what question we are supposed to answer?

@JosephWright Sounds like an iteration problem which doesn't belong to to this site.

@MarcoDaniel Quite

10:50 AM
@JosephWright Based on the comment of the op the question is OT
I am out of votes for today.

@MarcoDaniel o.O

@PauloCereda The last three days I was using the new "review mechanism" of this site.

@MarcoDaniel Oh. :)

@MarcoDaniel Yes, I've had a quick look

10:54 AM
@MarcoDaniel Wow!

@JosephWright unfortunately I can't select the posts. I must closed step wise. The next problem I can't find questions which have 4 votes
@PauloCereda You can do the same. This is one way reducing the unanswered list
@JosephWright: Can we close this question as TL -- The same issue as always -- need an update.

Andrew Swann\DeclareMathOperator is designed to create commands that should typeset operator names such as sin and lim. @JosephWright: All your comments together will be a great answer ;-) tex.stackexchange.com/questions/67532/…

@MarcoDaniel I'll wait to see what comes back. I think this is 'off topic', so don't really want to answer just yet.
@MarcoDaniel Closed, and users merged (seems right)

@JosephWright Thanks

I have a feeling the l3fp question relates to something Bruno said about 'someone wanting \fp_while_do:nn.

@JosephWright Oh. :)

@JosephWright Is there an online version of l2short? I think someone needs to be politely told to read the section on boxes.

@PauloCereda It's fantastic to see an arara question in an Italian community

@MarcoDaniel Indeed, I was very suprised. :)

@JosephWright: email sent. :)

tex stackexchange is really curious: A German has really a special question to the German language support of babel. The question was written in English. A friendly German user answered the German specific question in English :-) tex.stackexchange.com/questions/67549/…

@MarcoDaniel Germans. <3

@MarcoDaniel As a native English speaker, the idea of some group deciding to change spellings has always seemed completely bizarre to me

Difference between ngerman and german: there's a n in front of german. :)

@PauloCereda :-)

@JosephWright If you ask me, I can't spot the difference between portuges (spelled wrong, don't know why) and brazilian for babel. :)

@PauloCereda Certainly in the past there have been cases where people's personal ideas of what is 'correct' have been involved in babel definitions. Could be that.

@JosephWright Ah I see.

12:59 PM
@JosephWright Indeed. But it shows the variety of tex stackexchange ;-=)

Q: Bibliography - switch from {abbrv} to {natbib}

FloatingPointZilchI am using JabRef to manage my citations and have used [Author-Year] as bibtexkeys. Now, I'd like to switch from {abbrv} to {natbib}. Is there any advice how to do this? Isn't this a bit impolite towards Herbert?

A: can't create \footnote because of math

goodluckIt should be the underscore that leads to error. You can use \_ instead of _. Affymetrix-anotation-file\footnote{HG-U133\_Plus\_2.na32.annot.csv}

@tohecz Not really. The answer goes a little further to explaining the problem whereas Herbert's comment is a bit terse.
@JosephWright (Or anyone else) if I want to symlink something into my user texmf tree that has bits that would normally go in here there and everywhere, is there an easy way to do it? I tried just symlinking the main directory in texmf/ but that didn't seem to work.

@AndrewStacey Herbert's answers tend to be a bit terse :-)
@AndrewStacey You've got to obey the TDS, so usually have to have separate symlinks. That's what I do for biblatex development, for example

@AndrewStacey Still, I don't think that anything new is added. I do not say he behaves wrong, I just say it's a bit impolite

@JosephWright Bother. I wanted to have the CVS version of PGF and that has bits all over the place.

@tohecz I'd have asked Herbert to answer, or made my answer CW

1:51 PM
@tohecz Certainly I would normally prefix something like that with "As mentioned in the comments ..." but I wouldn't necessarily have made my answer CW. On the whole, I don't like "Answers in comments". I do it only if I'm not sure if the answer will be an answer and want to check the simple solution first.
@JosephWright Okay, so foreach f in * ln -s ~/local/share/pgf/$f/pgf $f does the trick. Do that in both the texmf directory and the tex directory.

@PauloCereda I assume for 8+3 file systems

@DavidCarlisle ooh I forgot about them. :)

@AndrewStacey doesn't it work after youve done a texhash (assuming all the bits you hav eadded are then in the standard paths)

@JosephWright That's my way of thinking. On the other hand, it had not been clear whether it is the answer or not, so I would have done similar thing as Herbert had.
but it does not matter I think, he's a newcomer and these are "cheap rep points", nothing less and nothing more ;)

@PauloCereda after a decade of pain over longtable before people stopped using dos, it's hard to forget.

1:59 PM
@DavidCarlisle texhash doesn't notice my user texmf-tree. What I was aiming for was a quick way to switch between the CVS version of PGF and the TL2012 version.

@AndrewStacey TL does not require you to hash your local tree. That's been the case for several years now. (Exception: if your local tree is on a remote file system.)

@AndrewStacey well isn't it easier to just switch TEXINPUTS env variable rather than add inks in the filesystem?
as in a commandline of TEXINPUTS=/where/cvs/is// latex file

@DavidCarlisle Ah. :)

@JosephWright Yes, I know that. Didn't stop me trying it, though, just in case texhash didn't know that.
@DavidCarlisle A-ha! TEXINPUTS is probably what I was looking for, then.

or rather make sure TEXINPUTS ends with : otherwise you won't get any of the standard places.

A: E-mail address to use in publications

Piotr MigdalPersonally, I think that (in academia) sticking to official e-mail addresses is an atavism. Currently, one's personal e-mail (say, ...@gmail.com) is better because: usually more efficient/stable/etc, lasts for longer than 1-4 years. While names like mad_theoretican_666@... may sound ridiculo...

mad_theoretican_666@... LMAO

Q: Tikz:: shift and rotate in 3d?

RasoulI would like to translate (Tx,Ty,Tz) and rotate (roll,pitch,yaw) in 3D space an object defined in scope similar to the same way we can do in 2D space as below: \begin{scope}[shift={(7,9)},rotate=30] % draw some object \end{scope} Is there any simple way for 3D rotation and translation?

@MarcoDaniel you're so cruel!

@tohecz And he downvoted one of my best questions in this site. :P
I'm so gonna write so many bug reports for mdframed. :)

@PauloCereda have fun ;-)

3:06 PM
In a more serious note: thank you guys. :) I'd never reach 10k if you weren't here for me. Thanks for teaching me everyday the ways of the TeX force. Thanks for making this community so awesome.
@MarcoDaniel On a second thought, I'd need to understand your TeX code. I better go steal some Enten. :)

@SivaPrasadVarma gablin updated his answer that I mentioned earlier, with a link to a template. Hope it helps.

@MarcoDaniel: I love your tatic to give my rep back. <3

@PauloCereda looking at the image Marco posted that comma is disturbingly off centre. You need another 90000 rep to get it aligned properly.

@DavidCarlisle +90k?! It might take a while (at my pace, 40 years). :)

@PauloCereda just think if you get 25 for each answer about an arara bug, you may get there by Christmas.

3:20 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh sounds like a plan to me. :)

@PauloCereda Of course

@MarcoDaniel Germans. <3

@PauloCereda just read your bill of rights answer (+1, you're mad:-)

@DavidCarlisle LOL the master plan failed. :) I was doing fine, I thought, "well, now I just add the glyphs to the font and we are done!" That FontForge app is scary, I had no idea how to align stuff. :P

3:37 PM
I just answered a non-TikZ question! Do I get double points for that?

1 hour later…
4:46 PM
Markus Kohm is starting expl3. He uploaded his new packages gs1 :-)

@PatrickGundlach Neither do I.

@PatrickGundlach If you still want to try tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/usergrps/uktug/baskervi/4_4/simpsons.sty (in case you don't want to google it :P)

@percusse Glad I am busy right now ;-) (If nobody answers, I'll try later on)

5:43 PM
@PatrickGundlach I'm so happy that I made LuaTeX use an .otf font in my current directory. <3

@PauloCereda I have tried and failed before as well. Now it seems to work for me (I guess LuaTeX throws a dice every time it runs: 1-5: ignore user commands, 6: follow the user's wish)

@PauloCereda he was last seen 2 hours ago :-)
@PatrickGundlach I was looking for some questions to upvote.... (The system seems to have got cross with me every time I vote for an answer it tells me to vote for a question)

@JosephWright (or any other Moderator) This user seems to open a new account every time he posts a question: tex.stackexchange.com/users/17709/yeahguesswhatmeagain (he/she is the same as tex.stackexchange.com/users/17654/studentgerman and had yet another account (if I am not mistaken) that was merged). @DavidCarlisle: what if I post the following question: "How can I create Top Trumps-like card games in LaTeX?" :)
@MarcoDaniel: You have a mdframed fan here. :)

@PauloCereda I saw :-(

@MarcoDaniel Which doesn't know the meaning of "update package". :)

I don't suppose anyone knows the xetex equivalent of luatex \textdir TRT

@PauloCereda Indeed.

Q: Newenvironment not cursive

StudentgermanI created a new envrionment and it looks good, but I want to distinguish between normalfont and cursive font, so here is my code: \newshadetheorem{beispiele}{Beispiel} \newenvironment{beispiel}[1][]{% \definecolor{shadethmcolor}{rgb}{.9,.9,.95}% \definecolor{shaderulecolor}{rgb}{0.0,0.0,0.4}...

I think I probably would have voted to close as a duplicate if I had realised...
(voted the close the one I answered)

@cmhughes No problem. In that other question the OP didn't mention anything about problems with pagebreaks (it was I who mentioned the issue and suggested him/her to used mdframed instead), so I think there's no need to close as duplicate.

@GonzaloMedina ok, thanks :) I wonder if the two people know each other- it seems quite a coincidence that 2 people use the same (very old) package

@cmhughes True. I also thought that.
@PauloCereda Congrats!
