@DavidCarlisle No need on concentrating, writing just started with focus on the DANTE support for servers. I added the original learnlatex use.

@PauloCereda we really are having duck for dinner this evening!

Do I see it right that

\colorlet{test}{gray!33}% possible

\definecolor{test}{named}{gray!33}% not possible

?

*The question arises as I create a greater number of colors with a loop.*

@cis well it would define test to be a color named gray!33 (which probably is not defined) not a mix of two colors

cis
I'm just asking about the syntax.

It seems he wants at gray!33!white etc.
only 'colorlet' and does not allow 'definecolor'.

@JosephWright why don't have we a string compare function?

How can I reduce the size of the equations in an align environment inside a SE post? I want to do it here

@nbro your first expression isn;t rendering showing a mathjax error, it will pick up the current font size but I'm not sure if for example <small> is allowed through the markdown processing
@nbro I don't think the site markdown has any way to change font size, I suppose you could replace \begin{aligN}by $\scriptsize\begin{aligned} if you really must

4:38 PM
@nbro -- Assuming that the over-wide display is to get at most one equation number, I'd use the multline construction: \begin{multline} <material before = > \\ \begin{aligned} <all the other lines, beginning with = > \end{aligned} \end{multline}

Hi, which is the best way to add hyperlink text to cross-reference a section? For example:
```
You will learn more about it \href{sec:relativity}{here}
lipsum lipsum lipsum
\section{Relativity} \label{sec:relativity}
lipsum lipsum lipsum
```
I mean, what should be in the place of \href command?

@raf you can just use \ref or one of its variants

@raf \hyperref[sec:relativity]{here}. tex.stackexchange.com/a/553769/2388

@UlrikeFischer any thoughts on silencing pdfcrop by default?

@DavidCarlisle I didn't look yet, let me check.

raf
@UlrikeFischer thank you! But the link is not taking me to the exact place of the target section. It's actually \section*
should I put a \phantomsection before it?

5:05 PM
@raf The anchor should be fine normally, but without complete example ...

raf
```
You will learn more about it \hyperref{sec:relativity}{here}
lipsum lipsum lipsum
\section*{Relativity} \label{sec:relativity}
lipsum lipsum lipsum
```
it didn't work properly in my doccument.
so I have put \phantomsection before the \section*. then It worked!

@DavidCarlisle hm, I don't think that pdfcrop should say nothing at all with a normal call, so probably the first idea to add a --quiet option is better.

@UlrikeFischer most programs don't have chatty output, ps2pdf is silent for example or dvips or ...

Does anyone here have any knowledge of Applescript?

@DavidCarlisle dvips is rather chatty. Imho the only one which never says something is ps2pdf. But if you think it is okay, we can do it. did you check the code already?

5:20 PM
@UlrikeFischer the code change is tivial it says print $title and change is to say print $title if $verbose, so dvips is, I run it so infrequently I think I may leave the PR for a bit may see if heiko has a preference

@DavidCarlisle ok, I could try to look at the other issues too.

@AlanMunn I only know that the syntax highlighting for applescript is also good for lua :)

raf
@UlrikeFischer and what should be the best way if I like to show the section name instead of custom text?

@raf \nameref

28 mins ago, by David Carlisle
@raf you can just use \ref or one of its variants

5:25 PM
@DavidCarlisle I didn't push ;-)

@UlrikeFischer no but I think I should reach out to Heiko. I really think having three overlapping options quiet debug and verbose, for such a small script is too much so I'd rather simply do nothing than add a new option (I think) but ...

@DavidCarlisle it's fine ;-)

raf
@DavidCarlisle \ref showed only the number of the section. Where can I check the list of its variants? :|
@UlrikeFischer wow, thank you so much. This is what I wanted.

I am trying to draw some differently sized tile-patterns: termbin.com/zju8
Why is \tileCountOffset not preserved within the \foreach loop?
instead, it is reset to 0

raf
But I didn't use the package nameref! But it's working! Is it included in hyperref package too?

5:35 PM
@raf nameref pakage comes with hyperef there are also autorec cleveref varioref any of them that make additional text generally make the additional text part of the link text

raf
@DavidCarlisle I see. Thank you. I am too lazy to check the manuals of these packages :|

@Flow pgf for loop makes each item a group so it is like {...} so all settings lost at each iteration. (theer are lost of more useful loop constricts available)
@raf do packages have manuals?

@raf don't trust internet. I wrote a chunk of nameref so I'm sure that exists, other than that I can't say:-)

raf
:| By manual, I meant the package documentation, like https://ctan.org/pkg/hyperref
Shouldn't I trust the docs available here?
However, I always come here in the chatroom instead of searching in internet too much :)

5:45 PM
@raf sorry ignore me, blame @UlrikeFischer who has a long running joke here that I never read documentation,

raf
@DavidCarlisle haha
okay! :p

@UlrikeFischer \let\zz\__str_if_eq:n ?

@DavidCarlisle could give erratic results in documents using one of your many packages

3 hours later…

@AlanMunn -- I found this thought-provoking: npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/05/16/995963311/… Is it just me, or do other people find it easier to understand someone with a "different" accent when the conversation is in person? (I sometimes find it particularly difficult over the phone.)
