Is there a multipage pdf file in TeXLive that can be used for testing with \animategraphics such that a submitted MWE becomes self-contained?
example-image-a, example-image-b, etc like files are useful but not for animategraphics. :-)

6:56 AM
@KimJongUn the mwe package has also multipage numbered examples. Beside this there is example-image-duck.

@UlrikeFischer What is the filename of the multipage pdf in mwe?

@KimJongUn sorry can't look now, I'm not at the computer

@UlrikeFischer Thank you very much!
@UlrikeFischer: example-image-duck is enough. it is apparently multipage.

@KimJongUn You can try example-movie.pdf. The mwe files are all found in texmf-dist/tex/latex/mwe, by the way.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Thank you very much!

7:32 AM
@Skillmon you can never have too many kv packages, it seems.

7:45 AM
@DavidCarlisle where is a new one?

[ 3/14, 00:04/01:00] update: circuitikz [1598k] (59054 -> 59147) ... done
when you find a bug 5 minutes after the release...

@UlrikeFischer catcode question on main site
@Rmano that long? Normally it's as you hit send...

@DavidCarlisle oh where I just commented that I don't think another syntax is the best idea ;-)

meanwhile discussion with @PabloGonzálezL last night has resulted in learnlatex.org/duck

1 hour later…
9:16 AM
@DavidCarlisle IIRC, there already is a key=val package that uses "s.

@Skillmon ?
@Skillmon Parsing CSS-style keys will be 'fun' as you have to allow for ",=" ...

@JosephWright question on site about foo = "zzz" syntax (from the only known xmltex user)

9:34 AM
@Kim You could wrap your second column in an onlyenv environment:
\documentclass[12pt,aspectratio=1610]{beamer}
\usepackage{adjustbox}
\usepackage{animate}
\begin{document}
\section{Section 1}
\begin{frame}[t]{Frame Title}
    \begin{columns}[t]
        \begin{column}{0.5\textwidth}
            \pause
            \adjincludegraphics[width=\linewidth,valign=t,center]{example-image-a}
            \pause
            \[
               foo
            \]
        \end{column}
        \begin{column}{0.5\textwidth}
                \begin{onlyenv}<4->
            \pause

9:57 AM
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21: How about aligning the top of the animation with the top of the image on the left column?
Your current solution makes the top lines are not properly aligned.

@Kim You want to use \begin{columns}[T] instead of t alignemnet

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21: OK. Thank you for your help!

@JosephWright iirc, yax allows for " as the argument delimiters (but I could be wrong here). That's not full CSS though.

@Skillmon there is of course the utterly bug free xmltex parser

11:00 AM
We can now blame @PauloCereda for these things

A: Fixed width array columns with Overleaf

David CarlisleThis was a change (bug fix, essentially) in the array package. The tools change log notes 2020-04-06 Frank Mittelbach <Frank.Mittelbach@latex-project.org> * array.dtx (subsection{Implementing column types w and W}): Use \d@llarbegin and \d@llarendde so that cell is typeset by defa...

new fonts gone live on the main site
5 hours ago, by David Carlisle
We can now blame @PauloCereda for these things

To my surprise I seem to be sensitive to typography. I noticed the font change that happened today without reading the announcement before.

4:40 PM
@DavidCarlisle Good idea!
so .... does anybody have a user script to change the font?

I've decided on a second beta for siunitx v3: github.com/josephwright/siunitx/releases/tag/v3.0.0-beta.2
2

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 I got this one from @egreg

@DavidCarlisle That hursts :D

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 that's a userContent.css firefox user stylesheet rather than script,

4:57 PM
for testing: pomography rnicrometer

I clicked on Kim Jong Un's avatar and now the screen says "(removed)". Did I do that?
If I did, I do'nt know how I did it.

@LaTeXereXeTaL no, @KimJongUn removed his own comment

Ah timing is everything I see.

problem solved:

Q: Custom Fonts User Script: Revert or Improve the Font Updates

Redwolf ProgramsRecently, Stack Exchange decided to switch to system fonts. For those of you who prefered the old appearance, or would like a different font to appear in code blocks or across the site as a whole, Custom Fonts is a user script I wrote this morning to allow just that. Features Custom Fonts allows ...

Does anyone remember which font was used before the main site lost all the custom design in the Great Undesigning of 2018?

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 , how to apply those scripts?

5:13 PM
@AlexG It needs some browser addon, e.g. greasmonkey. If I understand correctly, userContent.css things, as used by @DavidCarlisle work natively by placing them in the correct folder.

5:27 PM
@AlexG here is an intro to user scripts: howtogeek.com/howto/16470/…

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 Ah, thank you! I will have a look into it.

@AlexG and here an intro to these userContent.css thingies howtogeek.com/334716/…

@DavidCarlisle oh no

(the userContent.css is probably more modern, but as I have a ton of userscripts for others things already, I prefer to have everything in the same place)

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 oh no
@JosephWright oh no

5:29 PM
@PauloCereda dinner?

@JosephWright releasing beta 2 ^^

@PauloCereda I've snuck in a few features

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 er... quack?
@JosephWright ooh a secret

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 <3
THIS HURTS

5:32 PM
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 nice, what I was looking for ...
yesterday, by Rmano
I need some tutorials on how to write scripts to change fonts.

@Rmano :) Which font are you going to use? I finally settled on Charter (one of my favourites)
Still need a nice mono font ...

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 I don't know... I will look around. I like Gentium, but I want a sans font for this site... I will look around a bit

5:46 PM
@PauloCereda joking assde, a standard installed template that has a error even on its supplied example isn't great.

@DavidCarlisle blame the second author listed in the array doc?

@PauloCereda parse error

@DavidCarlisle ooh fmi

@PauloCereda i think even Frank can't be blamed for @samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21's cv template

@DavidCarlisle ooh

5:53 PM
@DavidCarlisle If I understand correctly, every user can publish their document as template, so not much Overleaf can do to avoid things like overleaf.com/articles/rishi-shahs-resume/vgxvkmxktyxn ?
(other than maybe an entry exam with two questions: 1) how to break a line? 2) who to blame when array is broken? )

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 they could have their account terminated if they publish a template generating errors

@DavidCarlisle If you would do that with stackoverflow, you would lose half the users :)

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 I was looking at these: github.com/be5invis/Iosevka

@Rmano Oh, I did not know them. They look nice! Thanks!
very compact!

5:58 PM
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 yes --- I used to use Inconsolata, but it is a bit too wide...

@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 can't take any anymore, I am going to have to revert the last font change in my user stylesheet.

@PauloCereda Oh, Cascadia seems nice. Will download and try

@Rmano I use Cascadia in my editor. :)

@PauloCereda Monaco here

6:01 PM
@JosephWright ooh
@JosephWright ^^ ligatures in code :)

6:23 PM
@PauloCereda Uy. I have conceallevel=0, that would be worse ;-P

@Rmano ooh cuidado llamas!!

1 hour later…
7:25 PM
OK, don't have time to fix this now, but wow. I think that is the most annoying place LaTeX has ever chosen to insert a linebreak
How on earth is THAT allowed? o.0
I've retyped Therogravimetric from scratch to make sure there is nothing strange going on with it

@Canageek it isn't allowed, you must have very non standard settings

So I've messed up a setting somewhere. Efff.
That is going to be fun to track down

what does \showthe\lefthyphenmin say ?
2

@DavidCarlisle so not my fault, right?

@Canageek everthing has been going wrong since @PauloCereda joined overleaf
@PauloCereda ^^^^^^^^^^^

7:32 PM
@DavidCarlisle OH NO

@DavidCarlisle Don't have time for a full recompile right now. Late to the lab already. I'll deal with that tomorrow.

@Canageek oh it isn't even hyphphenated, I guess you must have a space after the T

Found the error
\caption[Thermogravimetric analysis data taken on a sample of \refcmpd{lnwater.yb}]%
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data taken on a sample of \refcmpd{lnwater.yb}.
Molecular weight (calculated from mass) (red) and the first derivative (blue) are plotted on separate axis. %
Data collected at \SI{2}{\degreeCelsius\per\minute}.
I forgot {} around the caption, and I guess that makes the T part of the caption and the rest...not?

@Canageek yes same as \fbox abc is \fbox{a}bc

As soon as I saw that it made sense
@PauloCereda Only if you are sneaking into my keyboard and making me make copy/paste errors.
But it sounds like, when in doubt, blame the duck is the current motto?

8:29 PM
Hi everyone :-)
The solution given by @nox here does not work anymore.
What is wrong?

A: How do I make ditto marks?

noxSince @samcarter was faster than me, I had to build some special functionality in my answer, borrowing some code from @egreg (link): \documentclass[aspectratio=1610]{beamer} \usepackage[french]{babel} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage{amsmath, amsfonts, amssymb} \usefonttheme[onlymath]{serif}...

There seems to be a problem with the babel package.

@AndréC yes it works in 2020 but not 2021

9:12 PM
@DavidCarlisle Should I ask a question on the site about this problem?

@DavidCarlisle hm, I wonder if it has to do with the catcode keeping changes Bruno mentioned.
