@DavidCarlisle and now a test with longtable

@UlrikeFischer I only have confidence in that test file working
@UlrikeFischer in github.com/latex3/latex2e/issues/143 I only get a warning now not an error (and no warning in latex-dev) was that a pdftex change, i vaguely remember something

7:33 AM
@DavidCarlisle that there is no error with pdftex is a pdftex change, but luatex still errors (with \pdfextension startlink), and I get still a warning with pdflatex-dev.

@UlrikeFischer you do? I get this woth pdflatex
$ pdflatex lt4
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592653-2.6-1.40.22 (TeX Live 2021) (preloaded format=pdflatex)

and with -dev:

(/home/davidc/texmf/tex/latex-dev/tools/longtable.sty)

There is a warning pdfTeX warning: \pdfendlink ended up in different nesting level than \pdfstartlink

hmm let me delete /home/davidc/texmf/tex/latex-dev/tools/longtable.sty and try again
@UlrikeFischer still no warning:

@PauloCereda *craps*

@DavidCarlisle I need to check, perhaps I don't have the newest longtable.

7:39 AM
@UlrikeFischer the dev release should give you lt 4.15
@UlrikeFischer I'm marking it as fixed in dev re-open if it doen't work for you:-)

@DavidCarlisle I'm just recreating the formats, but I just run on texlive.net and there the warning is still there. Also does it work for you with lualatex-dev?
@DavidCarlisle did you look into the log? Perhaps only the terminal output changed?

im confused, the test file I used gives ! Undefined control sequence.
l.6 \leavevmode\pdfstartlink
in luatex (I could fix that but you are implying it gets past that?
I am using this code from the issue, without the proposed longtable change:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{longtable}
\begin{document}

\vspace*{41\baselineskip}
\leavevmode\pdfstartlink
  attr {/Border[0 0 1]}
  user{
       /Subtype/Link%
       /A<<%
         /Type/Action%
         /S/URI%
         /URI(latex-project.org/)%
       >>%
      }

some long text that goes over lines\\
some long text that goes over lines\\
some long text that goes over lines\\
some long text that goes over lines
\pdfendlink

\begin{longtable}{l}
a longtable
\end{longtable}

@DavidCarlisle sorry I'm dump, I tested the wrong thing, I didn't remove the local definition and so did overwrite the changes in longtable.
@DavidCarlisle looks good, you can close that.

@UlrikeFischer thanks

6 hours later…

The tcolorbox poster library is fantastic.

@AlanMunn yes, I made a talk about it at dante 2 years ago: gitlab.com/UlrikeFischer/dante19-poster/-/blob/master/…

2:37 PM
Anyone with TL21 on Windows, does this give you an error: tlmgr search 'a|b' it works for me on Linux

@daleif it errors. What should it do?

@daleif IIRC the Windows command line doesn't interpret ' specially, so you probably need tlmgr search "a|b" there.
@UlrikeFischer Search for "a" or "b".

@MarcelKrüger just found the question that triggered this. Someone reading the documentation ... (but you are right "a|b" works on windows)

@UlrikeFischer Indeed: I'd never use single quotes

3:03 PM
Good afternoon!
(And, as always, apologies to any Australians who may be reading this. ;) )
A quick question. While looking at tex.stackexchange.com/q/595793/158639 , I noticed that loading fontspec in and on itself is enough to change the visual appearance of the formula.
Black is without fontspec loaded, blue with.
Is this to be expected? And what's causing it? It certainly surprised me.

@chsk there is not code to test, but fontspec will change the mathrm font.

@UlrikeFischer Interesting, thanks.
Right, I just found that this mentioned in section 3.2 of the fontspec manual as well (though the way it's phrased would've made me believe that if you're not changing the roman font to begin with, no adjustment of the mathrm font would occur).

3:51 PM
@chsk hmmm... different italic correction when "exiting" the \mathrm{eff}?

4:28 PM
@JosephWright what do you think about adding \pF,\nF, \uF etc (and their Henry counterpart) to the "standard abbreviations"? I find myself adding them often --- the fact that I have \uA and \nV by default catch me always. On the other hand, could be electronic engineering chauvinism...

@Rmano I second that, @JosephWright
Did Github finally change its default colour pallette to dark? YAY!

@Skillmon It had that feature on beta for quite a while now

@PhelypeOleinik that happens to me for not looking at GitHub (which for me still has light palette, fortunately ;-))
@PhelypeOleinik but I think it has only \F, \pF and \fF:
% \begin{function}{\F, \fF, \pF}
%   Abbreviations for capacitance.
% \end{function}

5:35 PM
@Rmano I'm not sure if I prefer of if I'm just used to dark themes :)
@Rmano I think you meant that message to @JosephWright

6:00 PM
@Rmano I think I got the original list from SIunits

@chsk that's why there is a [no-math] option

6:31 PM
@samcarter_looks_forward_TUG'21 I stuck up for you :-)
SamCarter will be so disappointed you broke her very important tikzlings-bears package, \bear[eye=red] ... — David Carlisle 1 min ago

6:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle I got first a shock, but one can indent the bear ;-)

7:09 PM
@Rmano Possibly, is there a way to investigate these things?
@DavidCarlisle Yes, once you know it exists. :)

@DavidCarlisle Oh, what a day. First the newspaper had an article about this Lichtenstein bloke hunting bears and now that!

@Rmano What do you need for henrys?

7:24 PM
@UlrikeFischer Is there a interface in tagpdf to retrieve the object number corresponding to a specific namespace object? (Potentially assuming LuaTeX)

@MarcelKrüger the objects have an internal name, there is an interface to add a tag to the namespace, but not to retrieve the number, but I could add something. Why do you need it?

@UlrikeFischer I want to set MathML attributes, so attributes with /O /NSO /NS x 0 R where x 0 R should refer to the MathML namespace.

7:45 PM
@MarcelKrüger hm, right. I want to rename the objects any. So I will use tag/NS/mathml as object name for mathml. (Or tag/NS/MathML)?

@UlrikeFischer I would go for mathml over MathML, then we don't have to remember how to capitalize any individual name. (Especially since every LaTeX user would immediately expect MaThML ;) )

8:08 PM
@MarcelKrüger ok, I typically stick to PDF syntax, so NS and GoTo, but imho the PDF reference doesn't have some official name for the name spaces itself.

@UlrikeFischer If you normally use other names I don't mind MathML either (it's more consistent with MathML's own spelling)

@MarcelKrüger no, in this case I actually used "pdf", "pdf2", "mathml" and "user" for the various name spaces, so it is fine. So assume tag/NS/mathml for \pdf_object_ref:n

@UlrikeFischer Thank you! What is the user namespace about?

@MarcelKrüger if people create a new tag, then I store it there and then rolemap it to one of the standard spaces.

@UlrikeFischer Makes sense.

8:22 PM
@MarcelKrüger I pondered a bit about this but then thought it is safer and cleaner in case this namespace stuff gets expanded.

@UlrikeFischer Is it intentional that the corresponding namespace URI contains something which has the format of a UUID, but which isn't actually a valid UUID?

@MarcelKrüger it is only a random number with a bit deco.

8:43 PM
@JosephWright probably H, mH, uH are used in 99% of cases...

@Skillmon Thanks for your efforts in wildlife protection :)

9:03 PM
@chsk I know there is some magic tracking thing that prints all boxes and glue tongue log file, but can't remember it now... (I am going to sleep...). I'll try to check tomorrow!

swag is back
2

@DavidCarlisle ?

9:19 PM
@UlrikeFischer email from stack overflow saying I'm due for swag (for reasons I don't understand:-)

@DavidCarlisle now I only need to know what swag is. Sounds like some modern sport ;-)

@UlrikeFischer t-shirts, mugs, pens, stuff (they don't say what you'll get) basically they persuade people to carry free advertisng for them:-)

Q: Swag is coming back!

Juan MUpdate Our first wave of emails have gone out and they're coming from our communityswag@stackoverflowsolutions.com address. We're using this address because we don't have third-party emailing tools tied to the stackoverflow.com domain. So, if you get one, know that it's from us! One of the thing...

@DavidCarlisle one always need socks ...

10:15 PM
We should have a poll: Which anonymous user is marmot (currently)? Who's in?
I've been keeping a list of such users, thinking that s/he/it is back on the site for a short while, then leaves, then comes back, then leaves... you know, like a busy groundhog/marmot.

@DavidCarlisle Got the email

@JosephWright I didn't think I'd got 250K in the time period they say but whatever:-)

@DavidCarlisle I also got the email.
@UlrikeFischer And can do with socks.

@Werner We'd need polls three times a week, at least ;-)

@PhelypeOleinik Ha ha!
My latest guess:

@Werner oh that is easy.

Ha ha! Thanks for keeping the entertainment value.
I once commented on one such answer with an @marmot prefix just to see what the response would be. The account was deleted within a couple of days.
It's funny.
This is my list of @marmot-like users thus far, all but the last of which are deleted/removed:
user121799
user237299
user237902
user238301
user240002
user241266

11:33 PM
@Werner Yes, I did something similar. I said "welcome back" :)
