Please, is there a standard way how to do %04d in expl3? (Pad leading zeros to four digits)

Sep 8 '18 at 13:02, by boycott.se - yo'
well, I would use something like \prg_repliacate:nn{\int_eval:n{5-\str_count:o{\int_to_arabic:n{#1}}}}{0}#1

yo'
@PhelypeOleinik lol

@yo' Fun fact, that's when I started learning expl3 (so thanks :)

yo'
this is one of the funniest things to have happened to me :)
for my current project I went with
\def\F#1=#2;{%
	\edef#1{%
		\ifnum#2<10 0\fi
		\ifnum#2<100 0\fi
		\ifnum#2<1000 0\fi
		#2%
	}%
}
btw, the problem is dimension too large thrown by Tikz for large coordinates.
so I'm going for 0.<num> but for that I need <num> to have a well-defined number of digits...

@PhelypeOleinik Hello, you have an email :)
Ask chat users, using a cup of coffee as a unit of measurement, how long will it take to install TeX Live pretest?

@yo' But answering your question no, no built-in way of doing that. I do have a half-written package that implements printf syntax in expl3. It does all integer types (%d, %o, %x, %u) but it's missing the floating point types

yo'
1:19 AM
@PhelypeOleinik the f-types are toughies if you wanna do that to fulfill all the standards
and even %d has several modifires, so it can be tricky

@yo' Ah, yes, big numbers are problematic here. Legend goes we'll have l3bigint one day (@JosephWright :)

yo'
@PhelypeOleinik I believe Joseph would like to rewrite pgf in l3fp ;-)

@yo' Yes, especially regarding rounding. Too many digits and you can't use TeX's arithmetic for anything
@PabloGonzálezL Hello :)
@PabloGonzálezL Reading it now

@PhelypeOleinik Great...downloading TeX Live pretest :)

@PabloGonzálezL So slow ;-)

1:24 AM
@PhelypeOleinik I think it will be a lot of cups of coffee :D

@PabloGonzálezL I'll take a look at your package tomorrow. Past bedtime around here
@PabloGonzálezL Ah, yes, the pretest mirrors are probably too few

@PhelypeOleinik To rest, unfortunately I won't be able to sleep peacefully if I don't leave TeX Live installed tonight...

@PabloGonzálezL If I'm not mistaken, you are only two or three hours behind me, so good luck with that ;-)
@PabloGonzálezL by the way, have you tried cloning the mirror with rsync and then installing from local? That usually works much better for me

@PhelypeOleinik It's what I usually do, luckily, I got a mirror from my country and it's downloading super fast :)

@PabloGonzálezL Ah cool!
Well, time to go. Good night!

@PauloCereda Hi, Mr. Duck!

@DavidCarlisle 0x7 ?

@DavidCarlisle since @PauloCereda wasn't yet triggered (there is a 'reakfast' missing): Ooh no!

@Skillmon ooh hold no
@DavidCarlisle oh no

@PauloCereda ooh first menttion of a new site in a list at the end....

@DavidCarlisle shhh it's a secret :)

@PauloCereda it's OK the text is obfuscated with long strings of letters and no spaces, noone will find the secret.

@DavidCarlisle ooh

3:17 PM
Hi, a quick question. I use different TeXLive here (unix machine, zsh shell) with

@Rmano Yes?

export PATH=$TEXDIR/bin/$platform:~/bin:$PATH
export MANPATH=$TEXDIR/texmf-dist/doc/man:$MANPATH
export INFOPATH=$TEXDIR/texmf-dist/doc/info:$INFOPATH
export TEXMFHOME=$HOME/texmf
It works normally:
[] % kpsewhere moodle.sty
/home/romano/texmf/tex/latex/moodle/moodle.sty
/home/romano/texlive2020/texmf-dist/tex/latex/moodle/moodle.sty
But then texdoc gets the wrong documentation:
TL201d [romano:~/software/scripts] % texdoc -l moodle
 1 /home/romano/texlive2020/texmf-dist/doc/latex/moodle/moodle.pdf
   = Package documentation
 2 /home/romano/texmf/doc/latex/moodle/moodle.pdf
   = Package documentation
 3 /home/romano/texlive2020/texmf-dist/doc/latex/moodle/README.md
   = Readme
 4 /home/romano/texmf/doc/latex/moodle/README.md
   = Readme
...in the sense that while correctly the TEXMFHOME .sty file is found first, the order is reversed in texdoc. Probably I have something misconfigured...

@Rmano I'm not sure the texdoc order is well defined if you have multiple files of the same name

@DavidCarlisle Ah, ok. I noticed because I made my first PR (which is called MR) in gitlab and the doc did not change after a local install... so well, it's simply as it is.

@Canageek moral of the story: never read the documentation, bad things happen

4:09 PM
@DavidCarlisle Is there something akin to the inverse of \hyphenation? That is, to tell me where possible break points are in a word? I realize I can set a word in a zero-width \parbox and it will visually show me the hyphenation points in the word. However, that approach is purely visual and (to my knowledge) can't be exploited by code to know the breakpoints.

@StevenB.Segletes er well \showhyphens could be modified (especially the version used in xetex/luatex) which does more or less as you say then post processes the boxes generated

@DavidCarlisle Ooo. Didn't know about \showhyphens. It will give me a place to start my search. Thanks!

@StevenB.Segletes probably won't really work for you though as (other than luatex) you can't see which letters are in each line box

@DavidCarlisle That's what I was afraid of. Thank you.

4:27 PM
@StevenB.Segletes -- You might take a look at the file tb0hyf.tex in the package hyphenex on CTAN. It's the cumulative list of hyphenation exceptions for the default (U.S.) patterns. It uses \showhyphens to report what actually happens with a word. Obviously the exception values are added by hand, in a way that the hyphenex program can build a useful \hyphenation{...} list. This isn't exactly what you want, but you might find something useful.

@barbarabeeton Thank you, Barbara. I will have a look.

4:56 PM
@DavidCarlisle Hi! (sorry for toooo late response)

5:09 PM
Actually, the order of the result in Texdoc is somewhat well-defined (but I've just realized that this is undocumented; which is not good.) In short, it depends on the setting for TEXDOCS.

5:24 PM
@Rmano ^^
@wtsnjp hi we are planning to change the back end at learnlatex from latexcgi.xyz to texlive.net (exactly the same except that it has twice as many cores and 90G free space instead of <1G), platex examples should work as before, but if additional fonts would be useful, it will have the space to add them now.

5:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle 'We' should update the description :)

@JosephWright was planning to re-arrange things this evening, but eat first

@DavidCarlisle :)

6:08 PM
@JosephWright "We" should give root access

@wtsnjp Ok, so it's a kind of score. Is there a way to set TEXDOCS so that the order is the same as the input one? I mean, that if kpsewhere hits TEXMFHOME before the main tree the same happens to texdoc? (Not so important, really, just curiosity --- I think that it would be less surprising to the unwary ;-))

1 hour later…
8:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle Speed seems good

@JosephWright new words here texlive.net

@DavidCarlisle texlive.net is easier to remember and there is no z ;-)

8:21 PM
@JosephWright you have mail
@UlrikeFischer Stefan wanted texlive.xyz but being German he couldn't find the z so had to make do with .net

@DavidCarlisle he could have used .blub -- easy to type for german.

@UlrikeFischer you had a big document that stressed the server timeout with the font cache, you wouldn't still have it to hand would you?

@DavidCarlisle imho that was with the fira fonts, but I tried them yesterday and they passed.

@UlrikeFischer :-)

8:44 PM
@DavidCarlisle I think I tried to font only yesterday, but I now managed a time out with \usepackage{FiraSans}

9:10 PM
@UlrikeFischer I just tried this (edited in the basic test file)
%!TEX lualatex
  \documentclass{article}
   \usepackage{FiraSans}
  \usepackage{iftex}
  \newcommand\test[1]{\par\expandafter#1\string#1: true\fi}
  \begin{document}
  \sffamily abc
  \ttfamily
  \test\ifpdftex
  \test\ifluatex
  \test\ifxetex
  \test\ifptex
  \test\ifuptex
  \end{document}
worked for me?

@DavidCarlisle it worked for me also after a few tries. I guess there is a font cache?

@UlrikeFischer yes that was the issue last time I can always run a document without timeout directly on the server to fill the cache if that's going to be a issue (or allow more time generally, its set to 15s currently which ought to be enough for most things

@DavidCarlisle yes here is the discussion from last time: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/54789669#54789669

@UlrikeFischer that loop was not a good idea:-)

@DavidCarlisle yes the next message said that ;-)

9:17 PM
@UlrikeFischer actually it might work now without filling the disk beyond 100% :-)

1 hour later…
10:32 PM
Any pandoc users around?

@AlanMunn not really, but what is your problem?

@UlrikeFischer So typically raw LaTeX gets passed through, and this is working for examples using gb4e but not with trees using forest.
@UlrikeFischer I'm just producing .tex output and then inserting it into a beamer document (saves on a lot of beamer markup)

@AlanMunn [ being interpreted as markdown?

@DavidCarlisle Maybe? But even the \begin{forest} is being passed through as \textbackslash begin{forest} etc.
@DavidCarlisle But \begin{exe} ... \end{exe} from gb4e is passed through raw correctly.

$ pandoc
bash: pandoc: command not found

10:44 PM
@DavidCarlisle Well you're no help at all. :)

@AlanMunn traditions to uphold

@AlanMunn how are you marking off the raw latex?

@UlrikeFischer Well I just retyped the tree to make an example for you and it is now working. Maybe I had a spurious space which caused it to think it was markdown rather than latex.
@UlrikeFischer It typically doesn't need any special marking.

@AlanMunn ;-). But I think complicated code should better be marked with pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#extension-raw_attribute

@UlrikeFischer Yeah, but if I wanted more markup, I wouldn't be using markdown. :)

10:51 PM
@AlanMunn but the first hit I got was this report: github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/4646 which looked a lot like your description.

@UlrikeFischer Indeed. For now, I'll live on the edge. :)

@PauloCereda Hi don Pato, this question is addressed directly to you: Which are the blessed package(s) to install in fedora to use `tlmgr gui` with `tcl`?
I haven't used the graphical mode for about 7 years, of course I still install `perl-Tk`, but I would like to see the new graphical interface...have you tried `tcl`?
