hi, I want to add Romanian option to layout.dtx I don't want to fork the project to add a few lines. Is it OK to open just an issue and put the code there?

4 hours later…
9:27 AM
@PhelypeOleinik and have you extended the \else csname with any random characters?
@Mafsi yes, sure.
@Mafsi longer term it would make more sense for layout to have a hook to babel and then babel add these for each language rather than layout itself gettting bigger and bigger supporting more languages, but that isn't the way it is now:-)

@DavidCarlisle quack <3

@PauloCereda breakfast

@DavidCarlisle oh no

9:48 AM
I sent an email to the team with this code
```
\DeclareOption{romanian}{%
\def\Headertext{Antet}
\def\Bodytext{Corp}
\def\Footertext{Subsol}
\def\MarginNotestext{Note\\ Marginale}
\def\oneinchtext{un inch}
\def\notshown{neafișat}
}
```

@Mafsi OK thanks (an issue might have been better, as it is easier not to lose, but we'll sort it out)

@DavidCarlisle ooh gnats

@Mafsi where did you send it (I don't see mail yet?)
@PauloCereda you can use gnats most people use the github interface

@DavidCarlisle and PR's, lots of them :)

@PauloCereda we could get you banned from this chat. (or eaten)

9:54 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@DavidCarlisle ooh is it possible to ban someone from chat?

@PauloCereda if you know a duck with super-human powers, yes.

@DavidCarlisle ooh it's the English duck isn't he?

10:06 AM
@DavidCarlisle latex-team@latex-project.org

@UlrikeFischer I think I will go for the name + counter solution you have suggested. As counter variable I will take the sequence item count \seq_count:N.

@DavidCarlisle I will open an issue if it is more simple to track.

@DavidCarlisle ooh the duck bloke arrived

@AlexG sounds sensible. But perhaps you could also describe the use case, pgf has some complicated code to smuggle colors out too, so perhaps one need something in general to keep track of color settings.

@Mafsi as I say a mail would be OK but I have not received it (yet?)

10:17 AM
this is the message I received:

Your mail to 'Latex-team' with the subject

Contributing with Romanian language to layout.sty

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

The message headers matched a filter rule

Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive

10:27 AM
@Mafsi ah Ok I'll get it in the end (team list is mostly for internal discussion and isn't ideal for external comments, as you see:) But no need to re-post it'll be cleared

10:43 AM
@DavidCarlisle No, I'm not that good at TeX ;-)

@DavidCarlisle Thanks!

11:38 AM
@barbarabeeton You got mail :) quack

2 hours later…
2:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle Isn't there something like a closed season for birds in spring?

@samcarter_waiting_for_summer interesting wild game birds yes, but not boring farm ducks you can just pluck one out of the farmyard and stick in the oven as required

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@PauloCereda someone taught me new skills

2:11 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh skills

@PauloCereda These USB cards are a great invention :)

@samcarter_waiting_for_summer They are. :)

2:46 PM
@wtsnjp hi :-)

3:39 PM
Is there any strong reason why expl3 uses \number for \int_eval:n instead of \the?

4:00 PM
@samcarter_waiting_for_summer twitter.com/hyxpk/status/1368229898049908743

@PauloCereda I hope this does not work, the spherical ducks are cute :)

@samcarter_waiting_for_summer they are! :)

@DavidCarlisle tex.stackexchange.com/questions/586067/… - can latexcgi.xyz do it?

4:16 PM
@JosephWright define "can"

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle As in could we have % !TeX = ... context?

@JosephWright a full texlive 2020 is installed so contetxt is there but currently it isn't in the list of commands
@JosephWright well quite we could have if I added it to the list.

@DavidCarlisle :)

4:45 PM
@JosephWright running context in latexcgi sounds a bit strange ;-)

@UlrikeFischer we could call it latex-light and alias that to context ?

@JosephWright @samcarter_waiting_for_summer could you in beamer replace linkbordercolor={.5 .5 .5} by linkbordercolor=[rgb]{0.5,0.5,0.5}? I'm trying/hoping to deprecate the first syntax as it is a bit of a pain.

5:02 PM
@UlrikeFischer I'll look at it

5:41 PM
@DavidCarlisle any idea why pdftexcmds defines the command with #{. Is there any gain here?

5:52 PM
@UlrikeFischer I think it's to avoid any keywords or whatever interfering
@UlrikeFischer The general idea is to have consistent interfaces: Heiko mentions this up front

@JosephWright sure, but with \def\pdf@mdfivesum#1{\pdfmdfivesum {#1}} you would get an consistent interface too wouldn't you?

@UlrikeFischer I meant consistent between all of the commands in the package: they are all done the same way

6:08 PM
@UlrikeFischer Maybe because you can do \pdfmdfivesum\relax\expandafter{\file}, so maybe Heiko tried to normalise that
@UlrikeFischer Or maybe because \pdf@mdfivesum\file would work too, so that's a way to require braces
(or both)

6:32 PM
@UlrikeFischer sorry I was distracted (I'd killed latexcgi.xyz :-)

7:01 PM
@DavidCarlisle ups. it is alive again?

7:17 PM
@UlrikeFischer NECROMANCY!

7:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle Good luck! I'll have to try the same with MetaPost :D

yo'
8:01 PM
@DavidCarlisle isn't that wipet's challange too? Oh wait, he goes yet another layer down :D

8:35 PM
@UlrikeFischer yes disk was 99% full and in trying to clear it it got to 100% and I was scared it wouldn't reboot if ineeded which is tricky for a remote machine. But I managed to clear it up eventually. (I deleted all pdf files and stopped the server for a while so somepne may have noticed:-)
@JairoA.delRio I succeeded: I have a gold badge:-)

@DavidCarlisle so you need more space ...

@UlrikeFischer yes an 8G disk when it's got linux + texlive + a few Chinese Opentype fonts doesn't leave a lot of space... we are devising a plan....

8:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh a cunning plan ... but yes this need proper space and founding. It is really good.

@UlrikeFischer when you try to make space by removing linux packages with apt remove xxx and it tells you it's failed as it hasn't got room to write the package dependency lists you know the disk is a bit full

@JosephWright, @DavidCarlisle in the list of font-switching commands in lesson-11 we list them in the following way:
> For short bits of text, we use \textbf, \textit, \textrm, \textsf, \texttt and \textsc.
I think it would be better to structure them according to family, series, weight (in any order of these, but to give them some order), and maybe we want to add \textmd?
and \textnormal?
(I just realized, they actually are ordered as series, shape, family.... so my first point is not valid)

9:06 PM
@Skillmon small caps is shape, isn't it?

@PhelypeOleinik oh, yes it is. So my first point is valid again! :)

@Skillmon Such a roller coaster of point validity :)

@PhelypeOleinik yeah, and of emotions!

@Skillmon I don't think that it makes much sense to use an order new users can't see and understand. I would probably put \textrm at the end (or leave it out) as you nearly never need it.

@Skillmon no I think they are ordered in order that they are most likely to be used, NFSS axis terminoligy can come later.
oh @UlrikeFischer just said same :-)

9:17 PM
@DavidCarlisle so slow ;-)
3

9:36 PM
@UlrikeFischer \textrm is used in documents which use a sans serif main font, so I'd not drop it.

9:47 PM
@Skillmon documents using a sans serif font is already the next level.

10:04 PM
@DavidCarlisle dc you got mail
@Skillmon how popular is \textmd? :-)

@StefanKottwitz thanks, just replying
