12:04 AM
@PauloCereda -- Take @yo' up on his offer. He's an excellent tour guide.

12:16 AM
Never mind! \if\instring{{wolframscript.exe}} was enough

1:14 AM
@yo' which model?

7 hours later…
8:26 AM
@yo' woo <3
@barbarabeeton ooh <3

yo'
8:53 AM
@DavidCarlisle VW Caddy Maxi, 2.0 TDI automatic 4wheeler.
@barbarabeeton ooh compliments :)

@yo' make sure to stop in Bayreuth on your way to @UlrikeFischer (you're in Prague, iirc?).

@Skillmon ooh a rabbit visit

yo'
@Skillmon yep, I am!

We could stop at every ice cream parlours along the way
2
ooh

yo'
@Skillmon That's close enough! 3h drive! (Less than @PauloCereda's journey to the university to finish his thesis!)

9:16 AM
@yo' oh no
/quacks in despair

@yo' but from me to @UlrikeFischer it's another 5h trip.

yo'
@Skillmon yeah I know... I've never been to her, but we've made many trips to Holland, which is further west

@Skillmon ooh I need to learn more German songs
If I sing Schnappi for 5 hours, something bad might happen to me. :)

9:31 AM
@PauloCereda this one youtube.com/watch?v=q8KBqDR33js

@DavidCarlisle awful.

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@DavidCarlisle (nothing against "Alle meine Entchen" but that version of the song hurt)

@Skillmon I didn't play it, was just the first hit in google

ooh I think I can learn it

@Skillmon ooh

@PauloCereda that channel has ok-ish versions of German songs for children.
@PauloCereda the playlist containing the songs: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLu791Jb5lWoCOzceiS6SDeGW_u1s7x-0h

@Skillmon oooooooh
Poor @UlrikeFischer, I will sing these songs all day. :)

@DavidCarlisle I even found a German version of London Bridge in that channel: youtube.com/watch?v=ThDM6EJEmKE

@Skillmon we could sing this one too: youtube.com/watch?v=WUBYglJibTQ
@DavidCarlisle ^^ See @Skillmon's song. That's where we see Germans are more accurate then the rest of the world: they don't use Tower Bridge during the animation. :)

9:45 AM
@PauloCereda I can feel my brain melting hearing that song :(

@Skillmon oh no

@PauloCereda also, they strangely pitched the voices to the correct tones (either that, or there is something very wrong with the voice of the third singer)

@Skillmon oh

@PauloCereda you could also walk in the footsteps of David Bowie: youtube.com/watch?v=nb6Gbi1MpoE
@PauloCereda or you learn the songs of Falco (though he was Austrian, not German strictly speaking)

@Skillmon ooh

9:49 AM
@PauloCereda I love the German version of that song :)

@Skillmon :)

@Skillmon Der komissar get oh oh oh ;-) (how we sang that in Italy)
But I like more Nena's luftballons (it's almost impossible to find the original German version...)

10:06 AM
@Rmano ooh 99 luftballons

10:42 AM
@UlrikeFischer, @DavidCarlisle, @HenriMenke I think I will have the swtich of l3color for fill/storke to using the stack done today

@JosephWright I think you will have to move the \pdfmanagement code away from \AtBeginDvi, it is too late there. (not sure if you saw the discussion in the issue).

@UlrikeFischer Looks that way
@UlrikeFischer I'm still not really sure why it should be too late: \AtBeginDvi is meant to be where anything for DVI/PDF appears (before that, there might not even be a PDF to create)

@JosephWright Did you get a mail notification for my comment under the cmd PR?

@JosephWright yes, it is directly before the pdf, but it is quite late in the code execution order.

Here is an interesting question with unicode-math and siunitx: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/579473/…

10:50 AM
@daleif egreg and I just answered:-)

@DavidCarlisle thanks

11:07 AM
@PhelypeOleinik Er, not sure
@UlrikeFischer I'll look later

@JosephWright Frank just wrote that he changed the order, so probably it will work now. I will test it.

@PhelypeOleinik Ah, right, I see

@JosephWright Or you didn't, or you all trust in me moving xparse around as I wish ;)

@PhelypeOleinik Will; reply a bit later

@JosephWright No rush. Thanks
@JosephWright Once that is merged I can start playing with command contexts :)

@Skillmon oh no, why does she want the band to die?
Oh wait, German

@PauloCereda Die Bart, Die!

@Skillmon ooh The Bart, The
No one who speaks German can be an evil man.
:56795688 Yes!

@PauloCereda you were faster (and I only know the German version, so my translation was bad)

@Skillmon <3

11:15 AM
@PauloCereda oh, a carrot! Here, have one, too: <3

@Skillmon ooh a carrot

@UlrikeFischer I get the feeling a move is still needed

And now I've reached the buggles (starting from David Bowie)... Youtube's algorithms are truly a miracle :)

@Skillmon ooh YouTube killed the video star

@PauloCereda Ooww, uh uh uh, ow.

11:24 AM
@Skillmon Is that so far to go? Bowie probably did every musical style ever. :p

@Plergux well, the jurney had a few others as well (I only heard Heros and nothing else from Bowie). But no, it isn't too far.

@Plergux also, this hat: youtube.com/watch?v=vQhqikWnQCU :)

@PauloCereda Uh, I think we can consider this disproved by history :-(

11:33 AM
@StephanLehmke It's from a Simpson episode, sorry. :)
@StephanLehmke /hug

Actually, people speaking German are the archetypic evil men in the movies ;-)

@StephanLehmke no, nowadays it's Arabics, before it was Slavic people, and only before that it was the Germans.

@StephanLehmke oh no

@Skillmon Yea, I guess the slavic are rehabilitated now that the American president is basically more on the side of Russia than America...

@Skillmon How can you possibly have only heard Heroes??????????????

11:35 AM
@StephanLehmke Also, I think that's part of the gag made in the Simpsons.

@Plergux ooh rabbit playlist
We should definitely create a TeX.sx song playlist!
And make @egreg and @AlanMunn cry ^^ :)

@Skillmon Ah, ok. So I'm missing out on some references...

@Plergux a personal youtube game I started with a friend of mine. You start at one "random" video and have to click yourself through youtube picking only from the first 5-10 suggestions and are not allowed to hear any interpret twice.

@Skillmon That's just German Smurfs :p

Oh don't make me start
@Skillmon @Plergux ^^
bitte schnell

11:40 AM
@StephanLehmke basically the plot is: Evil crazy clown-henchman called Bob wants to kill the boy Bart. Therefore he is imprisoned. When they are evaluating whether they could set him free earlier they find a tattoo on his belly "Die Bart, Die!". To convince them that he's rehabilitated Bob tells them that it's German and means "The Bart, The!". Then the judges come to the conclusion that he can't be evil and set him free (see above), afterwhich he tires to kill Bart, again.

@Skillmon So you mean there was only Heroes in this playlist game? Or Heroes is the only David Bowie song you've ever heard? Cause I took it for the latter and I'm going to faint if you say that's the one XD

@Skillmon Yea, they really botched that whole "becoming a nation" thing. From a dissociated feudal society to the most reviled nation in the world in less than a century :-(

@Plergux no, the former. Heroes is the only Bowie song I've heard today.
@StephanLehmke yeah, the current situation is let's say, less than optimal...

@Skillmon PHEW! XD

@Plergux currently playing: Tainted Love. Next up: Phil Collins (that one is usually a risky move, but not as risky as picking Guns'n'Roses or Queen)

11:44 AM
@Skillmon oh goodness. I'd rather pick Justin Bieber than Phil Collins XD

@Skillmon (I meant the Germans) At the moment I'm rather satisfied with the societal situation. The last four years revealed some real flaws in the American Constitution which I think the German Grundgesetz doesn't have.

@StephanLehmke Well yes, the American one is not bad but the German one is informed by getting on for 200 years of experience. Plus the American one was drafted when it was not clear that the USA was the nation state; that's what the civil war decided

I want to visit Berlin <3

@PauloCereda Good plan: it's lovely

@JosephWright ooh

11:47 AM
@PauloCereda Must see: deutsches-spionagemuseum.de/en

@StephanLehmke ooh I wanna be a spy

@PauloCereda @Skillmon since we're doing random YouTube videos, my favourite: youtube.com/watch?v=FavUpD_IjVY

@PauloCereda That's 100% home office nowadays.

@StephanLehmke ooh then everyday I am spyin'
:)

11:49 AM
@JosephWright You can do both.

@StephanLehmke True

Well, the reason for going to Germany is to see my friends <3

@PauloCereda we can offer a visit in the zoo of Mönchengladbach -- they have ducks.

@UlrikeFischer OOH DUCKS

@JosephWright Though I must say I always have a bad concience about imperialist explorers ripping that stuff from its original locations.

11:52 AM
user image
5
:)

@StephanLehmke I see that

I wanna go to Mönchengladbach! <3
@UlrikeFischer ^^ :)

@StephanLehmke It's very tricky: taken to the logical extreme, museums would (almost) all close as one can't be sure that any artefact won't at some stage need to be returned to it's original site. The only exception would be 'in place' museums, like for example the Richard III burial one in Leicester

@PauloCereda My proposals would certainly not include Lady Gaga. ;-)

@StephanLehmke Sometimes I'm glad I do chemistry: avoids many of these complex moral things ...

11:58 AM
@JosephWright Of course it's an open discussion without a real conclusion. Especially as there is the "preservation" aspect to consider as a lot of the "original locations" have been at open war, in the hands of warlords etc. for much of the meantime. Still the original attitude of white entitled explorers just going tomb raiding and taking stuff away for their home land is a taint on everything.

@StephanLehmke Oh definitely: certainly one needs to think carefully about is genuinely useful preservation, and what is basically theft

@egreg :)
@JosephWright as in let's definitely explode this thing FOR SCIENCE

@StephanLehmke Like I said, I am pleased that my area has fewer issues (OK, we get some weapons stuff, but that is probably less mind-bending)

Are we sharing songs? youtu.be/uWXUWepSak4
2

@StephanLehmke OOH <3
bees

12:11 PM
@JosephWright In many cases this would be impossible. Consider the big painting by Veronese that's opposite to Monna Lisa (and which almost nobody notices) at the Louvre. It was taken by Napoleon from the monastery of S. Giorgio Maggiore in Venice and it's a miracle they haven't damaged it too much. Trying to move it back where it was stolen from would probably destroy it.

@StephanLehmke Aaah, that one's always good. The original video is perhaps even more poignant nowadays with Bobby and Bill Irwin goofing around with Robin Williams.

@Plergux Actually I wanted to highlight the "Playing for Change" stuff and picked one song at random. Look here: youtube.com/watch?v=YLn7MtRH6Lk&list=PLC122061BDC373B4B

@JosephWright By the way, a copy of the painting has been made and placed in the original location, a hall designed by Palladio as the monks' refectory.

@StephanLehmke Ah, I see. It's cool. Every little thing counts. :)

@StephanLehmke oh, that one I understood completely wrong.. :)
@Plergux depends on the song, I like In The Air Tonight.
@Plergux not my piece of cake :)

12:27 PM
@PhelypeOleinik the basic principle is that "more work" isn't an argument against a solution if you are not the one doing the work.

@Skillmon I plead the fifth. :p

@Plergux :)

@DavidCarlisle But I am doing the work there, with the caveat that I still find it awkward :)
@DavidCarlisle But the argument for splitting is also good, so fine with me

@PhelypeOleinik exactly, you preferred no split, everyone else preferred splitting.

@DavidCarlisle Oh :)
@DavidCarlisle Me speak English no good

12:33 PM
@PhelypeOleinik we give you work, Ulrike blame and us credit. Seems like a good plan.

ugh, I sounded like Jar-Jar Binks :(
@DavidCarlisle Good, I can blame @UlrikeFischer if I mess up the merge :)

@PhelypeOleinik yes of course.

@PhelypeOleinik but do you have a Boomer?

@Skillmon A beamer? No, that's @JosephWright @samcarter_says_quack

12:56 PM
@StephanLehmke If I'm allowed to say it, it's nice to read such an stance. I'm not sure about the situation in Europe, but in South America (Peru in the case of my home country) many archaeological objects we see in our history books are in a Spanish or British museum. It's seldom the other way around. Nothing to brag about, but the other extreme is promoting a naïve chauvinism and that's as or more harmful. See the current president of Mexico asking Spain to apologize for colonizing us lol

@JairoA.delRio I also liked Bolsonaros critique of external interest in preserving Brazil's forests as "colonialism". He doesn't look like a native to me ;-)

@StephanLehmke Agreed, but sadly the vast majority of countries interested in preserving our forests are doing so for economical purposes, specially the pharmaceutical industry and mineral exploration, so there's a lot of hypocrisy going on. No one is interested in ecology per se...

@PauloCereda not fair, the thing is the ones who have means to enforce their agenda to reach their goals are not really interested in ecology per se.

@PauloCereda Well obviously there is more interest of big corporations in destroying the forests than in preserving them, otherwise it wouldn't happen...

@Skillmon and we were talking about actual good politicians the other day. :)

1:10 PM
@PauloCereda yep, we're back at it, it seems.

@PauloCereda And those interested are murdered

@JairoA.delRio ouch, sadly so true. :(

@StephanLehmke quite
@JairoA.delRio Revolting! :(

@PauloCereda Yeah, too early for sad news (here is 8:14 AM).

1:15 PM
@JairoA.delRio Good morning from me! I almost went to Lima for a local TUG meeting. :)

What tools do people use these days to convert PDF to EPS when the publisher insists on that format?

@Szabolcs hi mr. Mathematica bloke! :) I think Inkscape (CLI) might have some ways of achieving this.

@PauloCereda Wait, what? A TUG meeting here? I didn't know about that

Indeed, but it's a GUI tool, not a command line one

@JairoA.delRio It was a local group, I guess. PUCPE I guess...

1:17 PM
I guess I'll have to give in and re-read the Ghostscript docs :-)

@Szabolcs oh no :)
@Szabolcs oh I think you can invoke it from command line, I just never used it. :)
I mean, run it as a CLI.
@JairoA.delRio sorry, definitely not a TUG meeting in the strict sense. :) But IIRC there was some local meeting and someone had stumbled upon my name. :)

@PauloCereda PUCP maybe? If it's about them, I'm not surprised anymore. They do nice things from time to time.

@Szabolcs it sort of worked:
$ inkscape test.pdf --export-type=eps test.eps
@JairoA.delRio Ah yes, them. :)

@PauloCereda Also, I didn't know we had TeX groups or related in Peru. Most users here conform themselves with some TikZ and a template.

@StephanLehmke I was going to travel by train in Germany, I was so excited! But then COVID-19 happened...
@JairoA.delRio I cannot remember the details. It was probably an internal group from them. :)

1:24 PM

Thanks for the tips!

ooh las alpacas son muy peligrosas

@PauloCereda Even so, it sounds interesting. If you ever come to Lima when the virus is finally controlled, it would be nice to meet you and drink some Pisco... or chicha morada, if you don't drink
@PauloCereda ¡Las llamas! ¡Las llamas escupen! :(

@JairoA.delRio ooh definitely, let's meet! I want to visit our continent and Peru is in the list. Also Chile, to visit @Pablo. :)
@JairoA.delRio My Spanish is terrible, so I wouldn't dare say anything. :)

@PauloCereda Oh, I said "llamas spit". They are far worse than alpacas.

1:30 PM
@JairoA.delRio Oh I imagine it was something along the lines. :) Llamas seem very dangerous!
Hola, me llamo Paulo, me gusta los patos

@PauloCereda Be sure to make another try! You're hereby invited to the ruhr area. Maybe we can organise some meetup or whatever so you can meet the local people.

:)
@StephanLehmke ooh <3
ooh Rhine

@PauloCereda 10/10, perfect Spanish.
@PauloCereda Oh, almost...
Me gustan los patos :D
9/10

@JairoA.delRio despite people think our capital is Buenos Aires. :)
@JairoA.delRio oopsie. :)

Actually nowadays you almost see more alpacas hereabouts than horses ;-)
They're very popular https://vivamos-alpaka.de/

1:33 PM
ooh das Alpaka

@JosephWright Which branch in latex3?

@PauloCereda Woah, wut? People outside the Americas, I guess. No sane people in Latin America would make such a mistake!

@JairoA.delRio definitely!

Just in case you find this information useful: there's `pdftops` and `pdf2ps`. They are not the same. This answer refers to the former. `pdftops` is part of the xpdf tools, as well as its fork, poppler. Poppler's broken in the package manager, so I used xpdf. It produced a fully rasterized _low-res_ output and I couldn't figure out how to increase the resolution.

Then I went to Ghostscript, which produced better output and I could control the resolution, but it was still rasterized.

Finally I gave in and manually converted one-by-one using Acrobat.

@JairoA.delRio There's a lot of devotion to Santa Rosa de Lima in Brazil!

1:36 PM
@PauloCereda Especially because we see Brazilian as too friendly to be confused with Argentinian. You know, the "proud Argentinian" cliche

I passed on Inkscape for now (as it wasn't clean how to get the CLI tool on macOS) but I'll try it next time!

@PauloCereda :o

@JairoA.delRio oh I know that cliche a lot. :)
@JairoA.delRio I even prepared a liturgical songbook to a parish dedicated to her!

@PhelypeOleinik It was in cmd ...

@PauloCereda Oh, are you Catholic?

1:39 PM
@JairoA.delRio Yes. :)

@JosephWright It isn't (or I'm blind, which is also true :)

@PhelypeOleinik Maybe was in cmd2 ... in any case, likely easiest to start from scratch

@JosephWright Okay, I'm on it right now

@PauloCereda Amazing. Even when I'm not really a religious guy, I'm amazed by a picture of Santa Rosa de Lima surrounded by prayers in Portuguese.

@JairoA.delRio it is a small community in a nearby city. The Peruvian people is always on their thoughts and prayers. :)

1:48 PM
@PauloCereda Oh <3 Love is love, regardless of beliefs. A heart-warming gesture

@JairoA.delRio Quite. :)

2:38 PM
@PauloCereda You may find this interesting: youtube.com/watch?v=KdKquTtLnZs

@JairoA.delRio Awesome, thanks!

3:04 PM
I suppose this is normal, but I just found that I cannot use a "portable" version of lualatex if the installation is read-only (error building the font cache). Is there some env variable I can set to redirect it?
(no is a perfectly reasonable answer, btw)

@Rmano texmf-var must be writable.

@UlrikeFischer ok --- thanks
TEXMFVAR=/tmp lualatex-dev works perfectly

4:04 PM

@PauloCereda :) Haha

@samcarter_says_quack chicken found! @PauloCereda

@Rmano ooh

@AlanMunn OM MY
@AlanMunn We are still looking at it!

@PauloCereda :)

'ave a look! Seems familiar eh <evil laugh>

@UlrikeFischer Where are we on pdfdest?
@UlrikeFischer Would welcome your thoughts on my color changes

5:14 PM
@JosephWright in my opinion it is ok so, are you fine with it?

@UlrikeFischer I'll look

@JosephWright { /#1 ~ cs ~ /#1 ~ CS } { #2 ~ scn ~ #2 ~ SCN } looks a bit wrong shouldn't that be { /#1 ~ cs ~ #2 ~ scn } { /#1 ~ CS ~ #2 ~ SCN } as later in the backend_fill/backend_stroke command?

5:30 PM
@UlrikeFischer Ah, so it should
@UlrikeFischer I just want to understand the point about the size of the box, etc.

5:53 PM
@JosephWright you have a guard with two || in l3backend-color: </dvipdfmx||xetex>, and the unpacking doesn't like this. Should I correct it, or are you just working there?

@UlrikeFischer Could you?

@JosephWright sure.

Design is live: learnlatex.org

@JosephWright Language names are not sorted...

@JosephWright one simply shouldn't look ;-) The first sentence I read is "and made them into short 16 short lessons." See the two "short"?

6:03 PM
@JosephWright DuckDuckGo redirects me to UK?!
@JosephWright What happened to the wonderful logo the information architect promised?

@PauloCereda :)
@UlrikeFischer Oops
@PauloCereda They are I think by ISO

@JosephWright no

@JosephWright ;-). The languages are not complete yet? At least I get english introduction everywhere.

@JosephWright Why not using sorting used by Wikipedia?

@PauloCereda I think they are sorted by "portuguese in the middle" and the rest around ;-)

6:10 PM
@UlrikeFischer That's a reasonable explanation. :)
@JosephWright better leave things this way, or it would require yet another commit by the designer, and we cannot disrupt the laws of the universe.
@JosephWright and speaking of languages, beware: the Portuguese translation is actually Brazilian Portuguese, which is different from the European counterpart. That's why in TL I nagged Norbert to include region codes, so my contribution to them is under pt_BR, and not pt, which would be wrong.
oopsie, sorry... candle person :)
Hi candle person! :)

hello :)
Hello! I had a quick question about using texlive on windows - so i'm trying to run tex4ebook filename, which it says needs to be done in the command line, so i opened windows powershell, but when i try i get "The term 'tex4ebook' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again."
(i have substituted in my file for filename)

Do you know the full path where TeX Live is installed?
Perhaps C:\texlive\2020

how would i check that?

Perhaps Windows explorer can help. Sorry, I am not a Windows user. :)
I almost wrote Windows exploder. :D

@heather you must add the extension in powershell: tex4ebook.exe ..., in cmd it would work without it.

6:19 PM
@UlrikeFischer ooh tricks

oh it is in C:\texlive\2020 i think

Nice! Try @UlrikeFischer's hint first. If does not work, we continue investigating. :)

@PauloCereda @heather well actually I'm not sure if this is the problem. It just worked for me also without it.

i think tex4ebook is already installed?

@UlrikeFischer oh

6:21 PM
when i go into the texlive manager and search the list of installed packages tex4ebook comes up
man i really hate windows sometimes

We all do. :)

@heather what do you get if you run where.exe pdflatex.exe in the powershell? it is found?

could not find it

@heather but you can use pdflatex somehow?

Could you run

6:26 PM
opening texlive as a program outside the command line works, and it produces outputs and everything

$env:path -split ";"
See if TeX Live appears in the list

@PauloCereda it does not appear in that list

@heather where do you open it?

@UlrikeFischer TL is not in the path. :(

6:27 PM
@UlrikeFischer from the little windows icon in the bottom left. i think it's called the start menu or something?
it shows in the list of programs under that menu.

well try to find where the binaries are (normally it would be something like C:\texlive\2020\bin\win32, copy the path. Then search in the windows search (beside the small icon) for "environment variable", it should give you the dialog where you can change your variables. Add there the path to the PATH variable.
@heather btw: in the start menu there should be also an entry for a texlive command line that you can use.

so...the binaries are already in C:\texlive\2020\bin\win32
oh there is a command line in the start menu! perfect

$env:Path += ";C:\texlive\2020\bin\win32"
This would set temporarily the path in your Powershell window. :)

running tex4ebook C:\...filename produces...yet more errors
it's errors all the way down lol

ooh like the turtles :)

6:36 PM
[ERROR] htlatex: Compilation errors in the htlatex run
[ERROR]   htlatex: Filename     Line    Message
[ERROR] htlatex: ? ? Emergency stop.
[FATAL] make4ht-lib: Fatal error. Command htlatex returned exit code 1
C:\texlive\2020\bin\win32\runscript.tlu:915: command failed with exit code 1:
@PauloCereda precisely :)

@heather don't run with an absolute path, switch first with cd to the directory of your file.

@UlrikeFischer ah okay, it seems to be working now (famous last words)

it worked!
thank you both so much for your help :)

Yay!
/candle dance

@DavidCarlisle Loyal fans don't care about the truth.

@AlanMunn sadly true, it seems

yo'
7:21 PM
@PauloCereda Yeah, that one killed me!

@yo' :)
@DavidCarlisle ooh so the commits worked, after all :)
All 10 of them :)

$ git log | grep Jonas | wc -l
282

@PauloCereda Ah, but I can adjust
@UlrikeFischer Jonas wrote some extra text, that's why

@JosephWright oh remove my comment, it's accessible with history, please.

@UlrikeFischer yes once Jonas has finished merging we need to ping everyone for more translations

7:31 PM
@JosephWright s/wrote/c-p c-v'ed/g :)

@DavidCarlisle The blue design looks nice! Looks a bit like \usetheme{Ilmenau} :)

@DavidCarlisle I thought so. My husband looked at it, followed a link to latex-project, and saw there an advertisement for free word templates ;-)

7:59 PM
@samcarter_says_quack and duck free

8:29 PM
@DavidCarlisle "quack and duck free" is difficult to parse ...

Are tikz drawings not compatible inside a NewDocumentCommand?

8:44 PM
@Bob in general no issues but beware of & in tikzmatrix which involves catcode change

Ok thanks David, I will have to make a MWE to figure out whats going on

@JosephWright can one protect a @@ from being replaced by _module?

@UlrikeFischer @@@@

@PhelypeOleinik thanks, that looks much better ;-)

8:59 PM
@UlrikeFischer Some may disagree ;-)
@UlrikeFischer Or temporarily do <@@=>, but if it's just one as you say I'd go for the @ madness :)

@PhelypeOleinik I didn't mean the source ;-) But I now longer get curious errors. But mixing expl3 and latex2e has its difficulties.

@TeXnician The answer to life, the universe and list formatting.

@PhelypeOleinik yes @ look much better when arbitrarily used to replace vowels or word spaces or be appended or prepended to a an existing command name. Gives that friendly familiar look that makes reading 2e code so easy.

@DavidCarlisle YES! My favourite is \@ifl@t@r. The ratio of @ for non-@ is just amazing :)

@PhelypeOleinik hmm I wonder who came up with that name, I personally used to be quite proud of the onefilewithoptions variants. but of course the @ in those names now insignificant compared with the @ in \@expl@@@filehook@set@curr@file@@nNN :-)
@PauloCereda being a duck you would like to take part in a swimming tradition bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-55725832

9:34 PM
@Bob oh \ExplSyntaxOn well there is that:-) but you don't have to use that for \NewDocumentCommand

10:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle Learned from the best :)

@PhelypeOleinik It's especially great that \@ifl@ter exists too, otherwise forgetting one @ would be way too boring to debug.

@MarcelKrüger Ooh, indeed! :D
