@Rmano ;)
@Plergux Ah! Americanised Cymraeg?
@PauloCereda Post has been very funny during the pandemic. For a long time, we weren't getting anything. Then they delivered weeks worth all at once after my mother complained that streets right near us had post people delivering, but it was never our turn. Seems to have stabilised a bit, but international post is another matter. (Surface mail to the US was taking less than a week, although air mail was taking a month or more. Two items sent simultaneously to the same address. Weird.)

@Plergux -- I've just found this: Why Iceland’s Christmas Witch Is Much Cooler (and Scarier) Than Krampus. Accurate? (Regardless. I hope your Christmas is warm and happy.)

@Plergux hi sheep person!
@Rmano hi mr. squirrel!

@PauloCereda hi Mr Pato, merry Christmas

@Rmano ooh

@cfr Something like that :p

@Rmano buon Natale!

Also to @Plergux... And to everyone on the chat

8:27 AM
@barbarabeeton It's somewhat accurate, if appropriated. :p But my Christmas are very warm and cozy. Had zoom and skype meetings yesterday with family members (our main Christmas do is in the 24th) and look forward to sitting inside doing nothing listnening to the wind howling outside :)
@PauloCereda Hi duck person :D

@Plergux quack <3

@PauloCereda baa!

@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle @egreg and others: for your amusement... ^^
Although I would not call it good amusement...

@PauloCereda Oh no, SCons

@JosephWright keep going. :)

8:32 AM
@PauloCereda "Put floats in your document before your first reference to them." This goes against all rules up here :p

@Plergux the float which does not float, apparently. :) It's sinking. :D

@PauloCereda heh heh heh... mine usually flee :p

@Plergux ooh scared floats. :)

"Use balanced \left and \right commands to markup (balanced) bracketing elements", @egreg will be pleased :)
Oh, and "Use comments (sequences starting with %) to indicate the key idea of each paragraph or section.". Somehow, the author seems to be unable to express the key ideas within the paragraph, so he needs comments :D

At least it is not XML
@TeXnician ooh maybe it's a metaparagraph

8:37 AM
@PauloCereda yeah, my floats are terrifying :p

@Plergux ooh spooky scary skeletons floats

@TeXnician lolwhut? I can understand doing that with complex code, but why would you need that for text? On top of the references, cross-references, and indices. :p

@Plergux Maybe it's useful when writing novels. % The next 10 pages are about him telling her that he loves her. But for scientific work, I don't know :D

@TeXnician LOL
Gary pls

@TeXnician lol, possibly. But as someone who writes fiction I would argue that the same applied. If you can't put that across in the text you're doing it wrong. :p (unless you plan to write exactly ten pages about his love for her :p)

8:47 AM

@Plergux Granted, but usually in novels the author uses a few more words or paragraphs to express key ideas, in contrast to what you will find in in papers etc. Otherwise, one could probably shorten most books quite a lot ;)
@Plergux What kind of fiction do you write?

@TeXnician ooh let's shorten stuff: Beauty and the beast: girl develops Stockholm syndrome while being kidnapped in a castle full of talking furniture :)

Depends on the book. For example there is not much need for explaining much in Stephen Kings *Geralds Game*. It's pretty much one "scene" throughout. :p
I write mostly fantasy but I've also dabbled in sci-fi and regular drama. Oh, and I also write for a computer game :p http://www.thriongame.com :p

@Plergux ooh awesome

@Plergux Oh, very interesting :)

9:26 AM
@PauloCereda @TeXnician got about fifty projects in various states of completion :p (and that's not counting all my article drafts XD)

9:43 AM
@Plergux You're in good company. @PauloCereda's programming project landscape seems too look the same ;)

@TeXnician :D

10:04 AM
@TeXnician Since it's Christmas day, I'll be a good boy and not comment. ;-) Merry Christmas to everybody!

@egreg Merry Christmas :)

10:48 AM
@TeXnician oi
@egreg Merry Christmas!

11:00 AM
@DavidCarlisle Christmas quack

@PauloCereda Christmas Breakfast

@DavidCarlisle oh no

This chat is nothing if not "traditional" :p

@Plergux 'tis the season for traditions

@Plergux ooh

11:04 AM
@DavidCarlisle 'tis indeed! Though the only "Christmas tradition" in this house is probably pretty much "f*ck it" :p

@Plergux -- Presumably with new warm socks. The wind is howling here too, and by the time it stops raining, more than 5-6 cm is expected. If it had been snow, it would be almost a half meter. Happy Christmas anyhow.

@Rmano github.com/pgf-tikz/pgf/releases/tag/3.1.8 See BREAKING CHANGES.

@HenriMenke oh, wow. A side question: what happens to user-defined to path? You know, circuitikz is basically a big user-defined to path...

@Rmano You mean in the sense of \tikzset{to path={ -- (\tikztotarget) \tikztonodes}}?

Squirrel this away for next year's holiday preparations: atlasobscura.com/articles/best-christmas-cookie-cutter

6:45 PM
@HenriMenke Yes, basically. Every circuit shape is a to path that build the component and it's "decorations" (voltages, etc) between \tikztostart and \tikztotarget
Well, I will check ;-) do not worry (merry Christmas, BTW)

@Rmano Unless you use Bezier curves it should not be a problem.
@Rmano Please just open bugs as you find them.

@HenriMenke "If" ;-)

@Rmano Oh no, you will find some.
@Rmano With the holidays and lockdown upon us, my response time should be pretty quick.

@Rmano first rule of package maintenance, always make sure someone else takes the blame.
@HenriMenke ^^^ :-) :-)

@barbarabeeton No, no new socks this year, but a couple of scarves :p It was rainy yesterday but snowy today so we have some snow. Not that we're going out at all :p Just gonna stay in and vegetate :p

7:06 PM
@HenriMenke Ok, there are no evident bugs compiling circuitikz manual (good), but my to[R] etc is still not respecting the +() style coordinates. I will study your patch to see what I have to change to make it works...

7:51 PM
@Rmano Can you send a MWE? (here in the chat is fine) I have my head in the code now, so I should be able to fix it quickly.

@Rmano This might help.

8:22 PM
@HenriMenke Yep, it works! (I haven't yet checked if it breaks something, though).
My MWE is this one:
\documentclass[]{article}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[siunitx, RPvoltages]{circuitikz}
\begin{document}

\begin{tikzpicture}
    \draw[color=red] (0,0) to[R] +(2,0) +(0,0) -- ++(0,-1);
\end{tikzpicture}
\qquad
\begin{tikzpicture}
    \draw[color=blue] (0,0) to[out=30, in=120] +(2,0) +(0,0) -- ++(0,-1);
\end{tikzpicture}
\qquad
\begin{tikzpicture}
    \draw[color=purple] (0,0) to[] +(2,0) +(0,0) -- ++(0,-1);
\end{tikzpicture}
\qquad
\begin{tikzpicture}
    \draw[color=green!50!black] (0,0)
With your last patch, the result is:
And with my stock tikz, is:
Really nice!!!
No errors nor strange things compiling the circuitikz manual either...

9:10 PM
Would any one help me understand why this doesn't work as expected?

It was working a couple of days ago.
I think after @PhelypeOleinik helped me with the error messages, something was messed up regarding the interpretation of the numerical data.

ALBATROSS IS AWESOME!

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas ?

@UlrikeFischer I was looking for a font that contains ㉿ and with albatross this was so easy :)

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas ;-). But you are right it is nice.

@UlrikeFischer In the past I would try and error the most probable fonts until I would find one and now it is a matter of seconds. Amazing!

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas ;-). I normally used fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/327f/index.htm, that gives at least of candidates for the fonts. But albatross is very useful to find which exist on my system.
@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas I saw the "centered titlepage", and imho it mixes up titlepage and cover. The titlepage is inside a book and shares the layout, the cover is often created externally (or one can use tikz as you did) (but the distinction can get blurry if books are no longer printed ...)

10:57 PM
@UlrikeFischer Even if printed, the titlepage is often used as cover. I think 98% of all thesis I have ever seen, used the titlepage as cover, either as softcover or with a transparent plastic cover.

11:08 PM
@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas yes, I understand this. I only meant that the default maketitle/titlepage environment implements a titlepage. So if one wants a cover one should use tikz, or include a pdf, or use the koma classes which has options for both variants.
