12:00 AM
@Canageek er well it has been mentioned that reading the code is more reliable than reading doc:-)

Nope, they use that to mean Windows
@DavidCarlisle Fair, but that doesn't tell me how to use it, I'm only just getting used to latex enough to understand what I'm reading. Also if I hadn't hit those error messages I wouldn't have thought to search for what it is testing for with rm

@Canageek of course it'll also fail in luatex these days (which doesn't use write18 by default)

Also I could write this better! Don't make that an option! Which of those commands works and use that, why do I have to tell you which I have, you can obviously check!

12:12 AM
Ok, testing if I'm reading this right and if I, an idiot when it comes to TeX can see a better way to do this then whomever wrote the origional since I'm that annoyed:

Would this, in theory at least, work?

\ExecuteOptions{shell}
\newif\ifcmd
\newif\ifnix
\ProcessOptions\relax
%% test if shell escape really works
\ifShellEscape
\def\tmpfile{w18-test-\the\year\the\month\the\day\the\time.tex}
\immediate\write18{echo t > "\tmpfile"}
\IfFileExists{\tmpfile}{\ifcmdtrue}{\ifcmdfalse}
\ifcmpd
\else
\immediate\write18{touch \tmpfile}
Dammit, it removed all my indentation
@DavidCarlisle Would the above code work, at least in theory?
OK, now it works. My GNUplot SCRIPT doesn't, but it isn't LaTeX's fault
[7 <./ThesisMasterDoc-figure1.pdf> <./ThesisMasterDoc-figure2.pdf>] [8 <./Thesi
sMasterDoc-figure3.pdf>]
Opening gnuplot stream ./ThesisMasterDoc-gnuplottex-fig1.gnuplot
(./ThesisMasterDoc-gnuplottex-fig1.tex
Runaway argument?
[gnuplot] \path (0.000,0.000) rectangle (12.500,8.750); \begin {scope\ETC.
! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=5000000].
l.33428 ffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff...

! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
Ok need to figure out how to give TeX more memory it sounds like
@DavidCarlisle is pdflatex x86 or x64?
Oh, Another example is the x86 family, of which processors of three different word lengths (16-bit, later 32- and 64-bit) have been released, while word continues to designate a 16-bit quantity.
So that would be 2 bytes per word?
If that is true pdflatex's maximum is ... 5000000 * 2 / 1024/1024.... 9.5 MEGABYTES?
Ok, so even if that is an x86 word that is less then 40 MB. Effing heck, most of my software uses a gigabyte to wake up
Lets see what giving it some REAL memory ( 1063741824 ) does

12:56 AM
OK, even setting it to the maximum amount, which is only 8 million it seems didn't 'work
The manual says you'll probably have to use lualatex with the TikZ renderer
The code I have WORKS with JPEG output, but blows through TeX's memory with TikZ and the others don't seem to work
Ug, this is a after Christmas problem now
is moving to LuaLaTeX going to be hard?

Merry Christmas Eve from circuitikz!

@Rmano ooh

@PauloCereda om nom nom

@Canageek either, it depends which tex distribution you installed. I use the 64bit cygwin texlive but there was a 32 it one and there are still both 32 and 64 bit miktex and windows texlive as far as I know.
@Rmano plug it in, and your house fuses blow and you spend the rest of the year in darkness?

10:49 AM
@DavidCarlisle :-) Well, I have a fireplace...

11:02 AM
@Rmano Great Xmas tree, happy Eve to you, too

@CarLaTeX @Rmano but is the tex coding as elegant as this:

A: How can we draw a Christmas tree with decorations, using TikZ?

@DavidCarlisle No, that's unreachable :)

Yeah, X-Mas duck...
A question: Can somebody make this code work?
------> https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/219610/46023

It is something with the 'compat'

I tried `\usepackage{forest}
\forestset{compat=1.0-all}`

But this does not run....

It is about this picture:

1:10 PM
@JairoA.delRio Merry Christmas to you too!

Q: Can you help a poor unicorn to find its way back home?

Yaakov EllisOur poor /unicorn Sparkles got lost, and is stuck in a never ending loop of dashing and jumping. While it may be fun to watch him run and to make him jump, he does need some help to find his way back home. Once upon a Wint Bash morrow, while I pondered, full of sorrow Over endless db rows record...

Happy Xmas to everybody who celebrates it or nice and calm days to everybody else!

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas ooh
> Google develops an AI that can learn both chess and Pac-Man
ooh how about pac-chess

2:16 PM
@cis it fails in texlive 2016,17,1,19,20

@DavidCarlisle not my fault? :)

@PauloCereda I suspect @UlrikeFischer

@DavidCarlisle ooh
Dad was reading the news and suddenly said, "Paulo, what's BibTeX?" I was like, "OMG dad, I can explain how we manage bibliographies and such..." Then he continued, "It's in the headline: Trump derailed a big tech". So it wasn't BibTeX, but big tech... sigh.

@PauloCereda LOL

@Plergux it was very funny when I realised I misheard the word. :)

2:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle Oh, what a pitty. It is from 2014, I saw.

@PauloCereda yeah, I can imagine getting all excited to talk about something you know about and want to explain and then just like "oh..." :p

@Plergux ^^^ happy christmas

2:46 PM
@UlrikeFischer Thank you :D
@UlrikeFischer or rather Danke schön! :p

@UlrikeFischer What a lovely font! How is it called? Baaaaaaaa?

@PauloCereda do you have any pointers on wrangling with conky? :p

@Plergux I think I never used it, sorry. :( But we can find out. :)

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas it is the cow font (koeielettersot.ttf), but it has an stylistic alternative which gives sheep digits.

@PauloCereda Well, it came with Manjaro and I've been trying to "find out" all day :p

2:59 PM
@Plergux ooh which flavour did you install?

@PauloCereda architect with i3 (20.2 Nibia)

@UlrikeFischer :) I would never have guessed that's the cow font!

@Plergux ooh I thought you went for XFCE and installed i3 afterwards. :)

@PauloCereda no, that's no fun. gotta have some chance of making a mess. :p

@Plergux ooh let's use Slackware. :)

3:14 PM
Has someone of the TeXperts had a chance to look at Colors in underbrace and overbrace - strange behaviour? I've suggested that the underlying issue was the reboxing procedure but I've gotten neither confirmation nor contradiction.

@PauloCereda :p

3:44 PM
@DavidCarlisle looking at the documentation seems like cheating to me ;-)

@UlrikeFischer ooh
> Icelandic tradition called Jólabókaflóð exists, where books are exchanged as Christmas Eve presents and the rest of the night is spent reading them and eating chocolate.
@Plergux ^^ OOH

4:09 PM
@PauloCereda mmmyeeaaahhh... The "Christmas book flood" refers more to the fact that most people publish books around Christmas time (sort of like Hollywood publishes the biggest films in the summer). I suspect the youngins are more likely to get iphones and electric scooters than books these days :p

@Plergux oh
I wanted to eat chocolate...

@PauloCereda Mind you, I always give books :p And eat chocolate :p

@Plergux oooooooooh
@Plergux the sheep person is awesome
/gives chocolate to sheep person <3

@PauloCereda :p this one was a favourite this year dasneinhorn.de :p

5:05 PM
@UlrikeFischer Precioso

5:19 PM
@UlrikeFischer OHH! I knew you were the right person to look after the duck!
@PauloCereda This sounds like the ultimately perfect way to spend Christmas!

@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas we could have a book made of chocolate too. :)

@PauloCereda Ohh! And instead of using a bookmark, one just eats a bit of the page?

5:35 PM
@samcarter_prepared_for_xmas ooh I like this idea

6:15 PM
Friends, it's time for me to leave for the day. I wish you all a fantastic holiday, the best of seasons greetings! Enjoy the blessings of life with your family and loved ones. Let us not surrender to the despair the world wants to force us believe. A merry quack to you all!

@PauloCereda Happy Christmas, stay safe...
Hope you get an emacs manual for Christmas

6:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle happy Christmas - I hope it doesn't rain too much. And may the deal stay ...

7:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle :)

8:00 PM
@UlrikeFischer -- Ooh. My old set of ornaments would look at home on your tree. They were models of the regular and semiregular polyhedra, painted pretty colors, and an "openwork" stellated dodecahedron, constructed of balsa splints, for the top of the tree. Sadly, they were lost during a move. Maybe I'll make another set someday. (I was particularly fond of the bright orangish-red rhombic triacontahedron. Gordon found a magnetic puzzle in this shape, the same color!, that is lots of fun.)

8:28 PM
@barbarabeeton lots if things feel at home in our tree -- almost everything has a "history" and every year we get something in addition (the duck is new and a gift from Samcarter).

9:21 PM
Happy Christmas everyone! Enjoy the holidays :D

@PhelypeOleinik Happy Christmas to you, too, and to everybody!
