7:15 AM
@JosephWright to be honest, there are some functions in l3tl I haven't dared to touch, yet (\tl_replace_..., \tl_remove_..., ...)

7:46 AM
I tried using the command `\file_compare_timestamp:nNnTF` in LuaLaTeX and got `! Undefined control sequence.
<argument> \LaTeX3 error:
Primitive \(pdf)filemoddatenot available
l.76 \StripSemantex{ms}`
Does someone have an idea why?
Forget the last line

@Gaussler i will check.

I am creating a de-macro system for my package SemanTeX, hence hte name \StripSemantex

@Gaussler I get the error too.

@UlrikeFischer Probably an error then

@Gaussler yes, just tracing, and then I will report it.

7:55 AM
@UlrikeFischer Thanks!

@Gaussler blame @UlrikeFischer

8:11 AM
@DavidCarlisle hm, I wonder how this code was meant. Did luatex in older time have a (pdf)filemodedate? In any case currently the code actively disables the function for luatex @JosephWright

@UlrikeFischer Huh?

@UlrikeFischer not since it dropped all the \pdf... primitives as far as I know, hmm although we don't fake it in luatex85 either

@JosephWright l3file.dtx contains this and so disables the conditional for lualatex:
\cs_if_exist:NF \tex_filemoddate:D
  {
    \prg_set_conditional:Npnn \file_compare_timestamp:nNn #1#2#3
      { p , T , F , TF }
      {
        \__kernel_msg_expandable_error:nnn
          { kernel } { primitive-not-available }
          { \(pdf)filemoddate }
        \prg_return_false:
      }
  }

@UlrikeFischer h, that would be an error then
@UlrikeFischer I'll fix later today (headed out shortly)

@JosephWright ok, should I open an issue?

8:23 AM
@UlrikeFischer Please

@JosephWright done.

5 hours later…
1:48 PM
Heya, I have this vague memory of there being a command line program for extracting text from PDF, does someone remember its name?

@morbusg pdftotext, perhaps?

@PauloCereda ah, nice, thank you (kinda obvious name come to think of it).

@morbusg I tried pdfto<TAB> and it worked, so I am surprised too. :D

2 hours later…
3:44 PM
@yo' Is there a way to update an existing Overleaf project to compile with the latest version of TL? I have a project that still compiles with TL2017. I know I could create a new project and copy it, but is there a better way?

yo'
@AlanMunn you can change the TL image in the project's Menu
(currently 2019 is the latest, 2020 is coming soon!)

@yo' ooh a secret

using enumitem, what is the working version of \begin{itemize}[itemsep=10pt, <+->] ? I just want to reveal one item at a time

yo'
@PauloCereda sort-of. We're finishing testing just today. A lot of work still to do, but things are on the right track!

@yo' :)

3:50 PM
@Anush \begin{itemize}[itemsep=10pt]<+-> I'd guess, assuming enumitem is compatible with beamer at all (I didn't check)

Friends, do you use anything different from Apple Mail/GMail apps in your iOS/Android devices? I have Aquamail on my phone...

@Anush don't use enumitem with beamer.

@UlrikeFischer oh... what is the recommend way of increasing the space between items?
@DavidCarlisle that doesn't work in beamer

@PauloCereda Is it only Friends that can answer:-)

@yo' I must be doing something wrong. When I click on the menu I get the following:

3:52 PM
@Anush not surprised, but that had a chance of working (using <> inside the argument less so:-)

:)
should I just add \vfill to every \item?

@DavidCarlisle oh

@PauloCereda I use MyMail on my iPhone. It's great. And one of the few apps that allows an independent password to access.

yo'
@AlanMunn This is strange. Are you on the could hosted Overleaf? If so, can you please send the URL of the project to support@overleaf.com? I'll have a look.

@AlanMunn ooh thanks! Let me check!

3:54 PM
@Anush the underlying value is \itemsep so you could set that ideally by changing wheverer your beamer theme has set it, or just set it after \begin{itemize} probably works

@DavidCarlisle thanks. I guess it's slightly non-ideal as I would like it to work out how to fill the page vertically

@yo' Done. Thanks.

just after \begin{itemize} works

@Anush you can set it to a stretchy length \setlength\itemsep{5pt plus 1fill} or whatever

what does 1fill mean there?

yo'
3:58 PM
@AlanMunn Can you try refreshing the tab with the project?

@Anush there is not really an official way, I used once this: tex.stackexchange.com/a/459482/2388

@Anush it means stretch like \vfill but starting from 5pt not 0pt

@DavidCarlisle that's pretty cool. Thanks

@yo' No change.

@UlrikeFischer thanks
\setlength\itemsep{5pt plus 1fill} looks ideal to me

yo'
3:59 PM
@AlanMunn that's very weird. I can switch the version for you if you wish, and I'll ask the devs to have a look. This really shouldn't happen.

@yo' That would be great. It's a public linked document that I share with instructions to students; it's also been shared more widely to other linguists, so I'd like the version to be as up to date as possible.

yo'
@AlanMunn you're accessing it from an account that isn't the owner, right?

@yo' I thought I wasn't but checking now, it seems that I am. It shows up with a link icon in the Owner column, not You. So is that the problem?
@yo' More fallout from my non-merged accounts...

yo'
@AlanMunn I'll reply on email, ok?

@yo' Sounds good. Thanks.

yo'
4:04 PM
@AlanMunn You're welcome!

3 hours later…
6:45 PM
I have been hunting through the tcolorbox manual but can't find it. How do you set the thickness of the frame?

@Anush boxrule?
Or something like that...

@PauloCereda that doesn't seem to be it
oh it is it
thank you!
I have a color I want to use #009980 . Can I use that somehow with \definecolor or do I need to find a way to translate it to RGB?
aha \definecolor{orange}{HTML}{FF7F00} I think

@Anush xcolor knows the html model

@UlrikeFischer Indeed

cool

6:54 PM
@JosephWright we know a bit about colors ;-)

@UlrikeFischer Yup: wave will be my evening entertainment I suspect

@JosephWright Plutchik's? :)

@JosephWright googling for "wave color" doesn't quite give the expected

7:15 PM
@PauloCereda I use K9-Mail on my Android phone -- it allows for PGP encryption

@ChiefO'Brien thanks!

7:30 PM
Un autre jour, une autre langue.

@DavidCarlisle mon dieu!

@DavidCarlisle Tu es un polyglotte extraordinaire.

@DavidCarlisle Why should I visit that site? Do you get some money for each person landing on that site? ;-)

@ChiefO'Brien It's just context for the previous comment.

7:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh coin coin

@AlanMunn Aber zu bescheiden, um meine Fähigkeiten zu zeigen

@AlanMunn Ah

@ChiefO'Brien actually the other way round. I'm paying for dns for the back end:-)

@DavidCarlisle "Free" tier :)

@DavidCarlisle :)

7:35 PM
@DavidCarlisle You should reconsider your financial plan and marketing strategy ;-)

@PauloCereda the domain registrar sadly charges you even you point it at a free hosting site:-)
@ChiefO'Brien possibly.

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PauloCereda do we know any Germans who know anything about LaTeX that could finish off the German translation?

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@PauloCereda no? I couldn't think of anyone either.

7:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle we could ask and them blame afterwards

@PauloCereda Ich könnte es tun.

@DavidCarlisle Wir brauchen jemanden, der die Schuld trägt

@PauloCereda Qualquer pato serviria

@DavidCarlisle There are so many Germans in this chat usually ... ask some of them (and I don't mean myself -- my knowledge of LaTeX etc is too limited)

@DavidCarlisle quack <3

7:47 PM
@ChiefO'Brien you should not take too much of the chat here literally, there are several people on the learnlatex team who are German, the leader of the latex3 project is also German, I was just trying to imply that they may not know enough latex.. (because we are always polite to each other)

@DavidCarlisle quack

@DavidCarlisle And if we don't take this literally. A paraducks.

@AlanMunn leave at once, lowering the tone of the conversation with such terrible puns.
@PauloCereda it's too hot.

@DavidCarlisle You are mean :)

8:03 PM
@samcarter_is_at_texnique.fr you can leave at once as well you are supposed to be at texnique.fr not here:-) (actually it seems that you are everywhere except here, perhaps that is that paraducks to which @AlanMunn refers)

@DavidCarlisle Bei deutschen LaTeX Seiten bin ich nicht aktiv - also bin ich nicht überall :)

@samcarter_is_at_texnique.fr you can translate learnlatex.org/de to compensate for that failing.

8:19 PM
@DavidCarlisle How does it come that the master of all languages does not provide the translations? They would surely be much better than asking native speakers who no nothing about their language :)

@DavidCarlisle Polite? Always?

@ChiefO'Brien You question this?

@samcarter_is_at_texnique.fr No I rather wonder

8:48 PM
@samcarter_is_at_texnique.fr I did offer: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/55219149#55219149
