@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz or @AlanMunn or @PhelypeOleinik -- You seem to still be connected, although inactive. A comment I managed to make to a newbie (I seem to still be able to do that in a review) was responded to positively, and I hate to let them down. It's an easy question to answer, although not phrased in a way that gets a good "related" list. The question: tex.stackexchange.com/q/553286 Answer: use minipages, see this question: tex.stackexchange.com/q/378548

@Sebastiano buongiorno 😉

7:05 AM
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz definitely. I didn't know about onlyenv environment, that's super cool! Thanks for helping me and sorry if there was a duplicate on the web -- I couldn't find anything

7:20 AM
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz I have an additional problem regarding nested onlyenv. Please consider this MWE:
\documentclass{beamer}

\begin{document}

\begin{frame}
\begin{block}{}
Some text.

\begin{onlyenv}<2-4>
\begin{enumerate}[<+->]
%\only<2-4>{
\item Text
%%\only<3-4>{
\begin{onlyenv}<3-4>
\begin{enumerate}[<+->]
\item This text should appear starting from slide 3.
\item This text should appear starting from slide 4.
\end{enumerate}
%%}
\end{onlyenv}
%}
\end{enumerate}
\end{onlyenv}

\begin{onlyenv}<5->
More text here...
\end{onlyenv}

\end{block}
\end{frame}

\end{document}
The commented lines are the "old" code
The problem is that This text should appear starting from slide 4. appears at the same time as the previous item. How can we fix that? Thank you!!
Will a live streaming of the conferences of TUG20 be accessible?

@manooooh you should probably register if you want to see it live.

@UlrikeFischer I would love to help TUGBoat, unfortunately I don't usually use cards to pay

@manooooh registering is free.

@UlrikeFischer oh -- really?! I am seeing that registration is temporally free

7:52 AM
@manooooh Registering is free, you can make a donation if you like. PayPal is accepted, for example. I have registered even if I should be trekking these days --- you never know...

github's not up this morning :(

@DavidCarlisle yes ;-(

8:10 AM
@DavidCarlisle back again

@UlrikeFischer yes, slowly going up again... githubstatus.com

8:43 AM
@manooooh Just remove the inner onlyenv:
\documentclass{beamer}

\begin{document}

\begin{frame}
\begin{block}{}
Some text.

\begin{onlyenv}<2-4>
\begin{enumerate}[<+->]
%\only<2-4>{
\item Text
\pause
%%\only<3-4>{
%\begin{onlyenv}<3-4>
\begin{enumerate}[<+->]
\item This text should appear starting from slide 3.
\item This text should appear starting from slide 4.
\end{enumerate}
%%}
%\end{onlyenv}
%}
\end{enumerate}
\end{onlyenv}

\begin{onlyenv}<5->
More text here...
\end{onlyenv}

\end{block}
\end{frame}

\end{document}

@JosephWright would it make sense to make the decimal separator here configurable: tex.stackexchange.com/a/553299/2388

@UlrikeFischer Not really: the FPU is about programming/calculations, not typesetting, and for the former, a dot is the established radix marker

@JosephWright then siunitx should provide an expandable number formatter ;-)
2

@UlrikeFischer Bruno has some code, and I have a partially-working approach in v3, but really formatting is a typesetting thing, so it's hard to justify needing to go fully-expandable

9:16 AM
@JosephWright well the question is about (default) values in \Textfield, so one really need something expandable here. If the int module has a formatter \int_to_alph:n, why shouldn't the fp-modul have a small set of formatter too?

@UlrikeFischer FP formatting is rather more ... interesting: it's very much more toward typesetting (\int_to_alph:n is casting, not formatting)

quack

@JosephWright yes, but I must say changing the period to comma is for me less formatting, more "adapting to my locale".

@UlrikeFischer It's easy enough to add a function here:one for the team list to discuss?

@JosephWright yes, but perhaps we should wait, until the dev release is out. I will make a note for myself.

9:30 AM
@UlrikeFischer Cool,yes
@UlrikeFischer I can manage this with some siunitx code, but that's likely overkill
@UlrikeFischer I guess I could add it to v2 by back-porting some of the updates

9:50 AM
@barbarabeeton two questions: First, does it still need an answer (I'm very busy today). Second, why don't you post the answer? :)

1 hour later…
11:14 AM
@barbarabeeton I left a comment under the question with the link you provided. I didn't write an answer because there's already one using minipages, but if you think there's something missing, I can add one.

12:06 PM
@UlrikeFischer Isn't it amazing how stuff like \ERROR_should_not_happen happen so often? :-)

@PhelypeOleinik ;-).

@PhelypeOleinik blub

@PauloCereda blub vs. zzzz: who's gonna win?

@PhelypeOleinik ooh

12:30 PM
they seem to have added locale time info to the tug schedule.

@UlrikeFischer yay

@PhelypeOleinik you can always add more zzzzzzzzzzzzz

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz and @PhelypeOleinik -- Thanks for your help. The answer that's been posted is reasonable, though not perfect (bad line breaks in text). What's really needed is a good general side-by-side minipage question; I'll post one as soon as I have access to a laptop that works (see my whimper at meta.stackexchange.com/q/349484 for details).

@barbarabeeton I've just remembered this one tex.stackexchange.com/q/407619/134574 I answered some time time ago (thought the focus is on the gap between two consecutive minipages added by a missing % at the end of the line).

2:12 PM
@PhelypeOleinik -- That one's good, but too specific. What I'm thinking of is really generic: "How can I set a block of text side-by-side with an illustrative example?" The components can be text, graphics (\includegraphics or drawn in-line), table, code, something else (?), and the sizes of the minipages need not be the same. (I've started to write, and I'll be happy to let you see it before I post. I need your email address for that, please.)

@barbarabeeton I'll mail you at your tug address :-)

@PhelypeOleinik -- Perfect!

What am I not understanding about the new markup? tex.stackexchange.com/a/553388/2693 One inline-code is correct and the other not. And there's no blank line between the last paragraph and the bulleted item.

@AlanMunn It seems like it's choking on the <h2> you added. If I add a blank line after the </h2> it seems to work. Though why not ##?

4:31 PM
@PhelypeOleinik Thanks, that worked. Habit I guess.

5:07 PM
hi all, any mac user knows what is the issue here: github.com/michal-h21/make4ht/issues/30? I think he has clashing installations of make4ht

@michal.h21 if kpsewhich doesn't show any hit, it sounds more as if the ls-R or the texmf.cnf is broken.

5:27 PM
@UlrikeFischer thanks. how should he fix it? using fmtuitil or tlmgr?

@michal.h21 it is only a guess. mktexlsr would be my first try. And then check the pathes with kpsewhich and try to figure out why it doesn't find the lua.

@UlrikeFischer we will investigate, thanks :)

5:43 PM
MikTeX console and pdflatex show me "updates out-of-sync"
But I already went into the console in both user and admin mode several times and iteratively and updated.
In both modes now, no further updates are available.
Any ideas?
I think I already had this issue once and fixed by rebuilding formats. I already tried rebuilding for pdflatex, lualatex, xelatex in both modes to no avail.
I now got an error relating to mltex.ini

well works in Word!
:)

@Rmano :)

I have one question I feel it's too silly to post on the main site... why
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage[parfill]{parskip}
\usepackage{lipsum}
\overfullrule=5pt
\begin{document}

\lipsum[1]

\includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{example-image-a}

\lipsum[1]
\end{document}
gives me an overfull box in the \includegraphics (30pt --- it's related to the parfill, clearly, but...).

6:33 PM
@Rmano -- What happens if you precede \includegraphics by \noindent? (Should be handled by parskip, I think, but ...)

@Rmano with parfill you are setting \parfillskip to 30pt and so latex is trying hard to leave 30pt free at the end of the par.

6:44 PM
@UlrikeFischer yes, you're right, ... and is there a way to suppress it just for one line? I have that thing in a university local package and it bites me when I want to fill a line with a couple of minipages...

@Rmano {\parfillskip=0pt \includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{example-image-a}\par}
or \includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{example-image-a}\hspace{-\parfillskip}

@UlrikeFischer -- Another possibility might be, at the end of that line, {\parfillskip=0pt \par}

Q: tcolorbox: Fix row height of a tcbitemize

cis I need a tcbitimeze-structure like this with a total height of 6cm. How can I set, that the 1st row has a height of ca. 2cm only? (2nd row: "rest".) \documentclass{article} \usepackage[showframe=true]{geometry} \usepackage[most]{tcolorbox} \tcbset{ SymbolStyle/.style={boxrule=4pt,colframe=blue}...

@Rmano \noindent suppresses parindent for one line
@barbarabeeton could you proof read lesson 15 ?

@DavidCarlisle -- Again? okay.

@barbarabeeton I hope you are good with accents

@DavidCarlisle adding a few commas would probably not change the overall impression much.

@UlrikeFischer can you have double accents on commas in Vietnamese?

7:07 PM
@DavidCarlisle I wouldn't be surprised. Perhaps they have even commas under commas.

@UlrikeFischer commas under dot accents, @barbarabeeton's favourite: semicolon

@DavidCarlisle yes, but \parindent is 0pt (nothing changes anyway). The problem is the \parfillskip here (which is 30pt plus 1fil).

@DavidCarlisle -- If the comma is meant as punctuation, I think it's blessedly freed of the opportunity to have an accent in Vietnamese. (But I've already found a letter missing in the English version. Will report by email.)

@Rmano so I saw, later sorry just catching up the thread:-) you could of course do \hbox{\includegraphics{...}} but then the latex police will confiscate your machine for crimes against latex syntax.

@DavidCarlisle AAAHHHH that was it. Will hide from the latex police. Thanks!
Now if I only understood why... there is no \parfillskip after the \hbox{}? There is a \par there...

7:15 PM
@Rmano note that affects vertical space as well, as \hbox doesn't start a paragraph you lose a \parskip vertical space as well as losing \parindent and \parfillskip horizontal.
@Rmano \par in vertical mode exercises the page breaker but doesn't end a paragraph as there is no paragraph to end.

@DavidCarlisle Ah, yes. I see. I need also to add a \vspace{\parskip} before the \hbox{}.

@Rmano but if you are going to do that {\parfillskip=0pt\includegraphics{..}\par} is more natural (and does the right thing if \everypar is non-empty,

@DavidCarlisle you're right (as was @UlrikeFischer at the start). I'll define a nice \fullline for this.

7:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- email on the way. You will note that I have avoided reading the Vietnamese version. Although I can deal pretty well with accents, and did at one time know what letters should allow which accents, I don't have my cribsheet accessible and don't trust my memory.

@barbarabeeton thanks pushed the changes

Why is this systematic not often taught here ?! :P

I have known the method for about half a year.
I would have needed it 1000 times. :(

This is far more efficient than filecontents. Although filecontents is often sufficient.

David CarlisleYou can write to the aux file with \write\@auxout{hello} or \immediate\write\@auxout{hello2} or \protected@write\@auxout{}{hello3} Depending on requirements. \immediate\write writes to the specified file at that point, expanding the supplied tokens (like \edef) so fragile commands will ...

cis
@DavidCarlisle Ahhhaaaaa! I will have a look.

@JosephWright using ace at learnlatex might be a possibility it would look a bit like the bottom right of jsfiddle.net/3nHas/55 apart from line numbers it would address the other issue about the copy and edit buttons as they could go as you would have edit always on

9:56 PM
@yo' I have an Overleaf question. Earlier with @UlrikeFischer we discussed how to run install a .dtx file into an Overleaf project using \immediate\write18. This puts the installed package into the "Other logs and files" location. How does one edit these files? And how to delete them? Removing the cache doesn't delete them.

Is there an automatic way of counting the number of times a source is cited in a latex doc?

11:41 PM
@nbro Probably easiest to do it in your editor? Mine for example has a FindAll which gives you a list.
