@PhelypeOleinik I just tried to compile with the lthooks branch and got an error with siunitx as \tex_everydisplay:D is no longer defined. Any idea what is going on here?
@UlrikeFischer @JosephWright Now with loading expl3 earlier, \@@end is defined, but \frozen@everydisplay (and a bunch others) isn't (yet). I'll need to change l3names a bit
@UlrikeFischer Looking at the color space business and the code you set up, if we decide spot colors only work in PDFs, we are OK with the object stuff I think (as that works via PostScript but not in the PostScript). It's only if we need to support spot colors directly in PostScript we have an issue.
@UlrikeFischer I think at present we go with just-PDF: if someone really needs PostScript, they hopefully can tell us what is supposed to appear in the file, even if they don't know how to do it themselves

@yo' -- Here's my understanding of why the schedule is based on PDT. Each speaker's time zone was determined, the number of speakers in each time zone was used to weight the calculation, and the closest time zone designated as the nominal time. (I think it's inconvenient for everyone; about half the talks are scheduled during my "sleep time" too. I haven't registered yet, because I don't have Zoom available.)
@PauloCereda -- I think "had to be recorded in advance" is too definitive. My understanding is that it's encouraged, but not required. Send a message to tug2020 for clarification. (It'll be appreciated by everybody.) Also mention that your two talks are switched.
@barbarabeeton It's an artisanal dry red wine (is that how you call it?), from a local winery. The man who started this winery can't make it anymore, unfortunately, due to old age, so his son has taken the business. I must say, though, the he has learned quite well from his dad. It's delicious!
@PhelypeOleinik -- Sounds really good, but doesn't sound like dessert. (I hope the young vintner succeeds in continuing the tradition. "Encourage the locals," especially when they're doing a good job.)

@JosephWright @UlrikeFischer I'm doing a future-proof testing of the expl3 primitives and there are some I can't pinpoint the origin. The first two ones are \pdfxformattr and \pdfxformresources: where are they from?
@FaheemMitha Depends on where you are. I live in a small town, so things are pretty quiet so far corona-wise. But it will eventually get here, unfortunately
@PhelypeOleinik I might have missed some LuaTeX removals: the plan is to have primitives that are in pdfTeX that we use (there are a few real oddities I never added)
@PhelypeOleinik I would say only if some real use case comes up. We are trying to keep the code backend independant so this extra commands are not really used.
@JosephWright I'm making a test here to make sue all primitives are what they are supposed to be, so @UlrikeFischer can't take me by surprise again :-)
@FaheemMitha Ah, there's that. I leave about 200 km from Curitiba, one of the biggest cities in Brazil, so it's a reasonable distance if I need something from there (an airport, for example), but that's hardly ever the case
@FaheemMitha I never saw that one. I't not that small (about 60k people), but the one cinema we had wend bankrupt because it had the same one movie for about a month, then it took some time until someone was brave enough to try again

@FaheemMitha Yes, a new cinema. Because people don't usually watch the same movie twice (not in the cinema, at least), and with the amount of people that actually go to the movies, after the first week the seats were all empty
@UlrikeFischer Now it does, with the workarounds added. But if there's anything actually in the hook, then tabularx fails to detect the contents of \endzz (assuming that's the environment).
@UlrikeFischer Yes, the problem is that tabularx currently expects that two expansions of \end{zz} will expand the \endzz macro (not sure why not test \endzz directly, but...), and anything you put in the hook makes that fail

If anyone is interested in playing with crazy new engines, luametalatex is starting to become almost usable and I would appreciate some testing. (It only works with the dev branch of luaotfload and both microtype and luacolor are incompatible, but it's a start...) It should even work on Windows if the 64-bit version of luametatex is used.
Then it is best to copy the into your existing TeXLive binary directory.
@DavidCarlisle That might lead to issues because kpathsea is used which identifies it's config files based on the path of the engine. So it's probably easier to use the default binary dir.
@DavidCarlisle well I wonder if it can simply point to the one in the context-ltmx folder or if it will get confused if the binary is in a completly different texmf ...

@nbro book level classes typically use \flushbottom but they expect pages to be full. How come you have short pages causing the white space to be stretched?
@nbro you are describing the behaviour of \flushbottom in any case, and since you have shown no code presumably it is being used or a functionally equivalent command is defined. either way \raggedbottom would move the space to the bottom
are you sure you want to avoid it, the reason for being given a document class is to force a house style, but as I say above \raggedbottom is the opposite of \flushbottom
@nbro but why doesn't the text from the next page come over to the page that is being stretched. It is exactly the same as linebreaking, \raggedright puts all the space at the right, the default justified breaking normally looks better but if you put strange things in the paragraph some lines will have inter-word spaces stretched too much and it looks bad.
You seem to have this bad case so the problem is not really the \flushbottom it is whatever you have in your document that is stopping good page breaks
@nbro oh well you can't have a section heading on its own at the bottom of a page so if you haven't written enough text under each heading the section heading will be forced to the next page leaving the current page over stretched, \raggedbottom will fix that (and it's a faq on the main site:-)
LaTeX uses \flushbottom for two-sided documents (book by default). Odd pages and even pages are forced to be aligned. In one-sided documents (article, report by default) LaTeX uses \raggedbottom, extra spaces will gone. cf. classes document.

@MarcelKrüger A simple document worked, calling texgyreheros directly seems to worked to (but it doesn't show up in the log ... ) but when I tried to use fontspec I got errors:
