I'm still uhappy about them using the word "probability". It's not probability as it's not a prediction. It's merely statistics.

@yo' well, for HIV we have pretty advanced medication, if taken you don't need condoms to not infect others. There are even a small number of cases (2?) in which the patient was healed from HIV, iirc.

@yo' -- Unfortunately, both my husband's and my medical histories indicate that we need to watch the situation carefully. I've suffered several serious fevers, one nearly fatal (when it spiked to 42C, they put me literally on ice; I don't recommend it), and Gordon has come home from two New Year's trips to cold places in the last four years with pneumonia. Keeping fingers crossed.

What I try to convey is that this is a concern only for some (quite limited) groups of people, mostly people for whom a simple flu is a concern as well.

@FaheemMitha -- Unfortunately, yes. (This includes asthma and COPD.)

@barbarabeeton yeah. However, also the flu one is usually only a small number of flu genres that are supposed to be most active based on season and location.

My issues is mostly allergic, I think.

And they are mostly quiescent, with occasional flareups.

@barbarabeeton Flu shots are good, I think. If you catch the flu and then gets exposed to the corona virus before you recovered, that is probably very bad news. Being over 65, I too have my flu shots in order, and this year I am doubly glad I do. (Got your mail btw, will reply.)

The coronavirus won't get me, we ducks are very good at hiding. :)

@FaheemMitha -- Just because New England has good hospitals (at least in metropolitan areas) doesn't mean that readily communicable diseases can't get a foothold if people don't act sensibly.

@FaheemMitha -- In fact, we live about 600 meters from one of the better hospitals in the city, which was very convenient when I slipped on the ice and busted the top of a femur, resulting in a new hip for a Christmas present. But that's a lot different from being inflicted with a nasty germ. The quality of the chicken soup hasn't improved over the years.

@yo' -- But antibiotics don't have any effect on viruses. A nice aromatic broth does help clear the sinuses, and good chicken soup just makes one feel cared for. (Of course, wasabi also works on the sinuses, but isn't as comforting.)

however, in general, ATB can help as a person with a flu or other virus infection is weakened hence suspectible to bacterial infections as well. I know cases where the doctors prescribe ATB treatment if there's an extra risk of things going wrong.

@yo' -- And the overuse is one of the reasons that there are now so many super-staph bugs like MRSA. Thank goodness my bout of staph sepsis happened before toxic shock appeared. Even so, that year I missed spring in isolation/quarantine. (The ailment was later written up, by an apparent illiterate, as a "staff" infection. Well, maybe that was semi-accurate, given that I was also on display to several bunches of interns being introduced to unusual cases.)

@UlrikeFischer -- There's a pretty good account of the history of spacing in Wikipedia at History of sentence spacing. Apparently the term "French spacing" used to be used in the exact opposite sense as used by TeX. (Personally, I prefer the wider space at the end of sentences especially when the text contains lots of extra periods with abbreviations, which is true in a lot of academic texts.)

@FaheemMitha -- What's really important is a rich basic broth, not just watery liquid. For example, miso is (usually) great.

@FaheemMitha -- You should try it. Although the dashi that is often used in the base contains dried fish, everything else is veggie, and there are delicious vegan variants on dashi. I think it's yummy, but like almost everything, it's ultimately a matter of personal taste.

@FaheemMitha -- Is seaweed (various kinds) hard to get there? I expect that tofu should be available. (It's a common alternative here for paneer with saag.)

@barbarabeeton Tofu is available. I don't know about seaweed. I assume these are special kinds of seaweed, not just any ordinary seaweed.

I've never really tried Japanese food. And though India has many culinary traditions, I don't think any of them are particularly close to Japanese cuisine.

@FaheemMitha -- Kelp or kombu is a basic ingredient in the miso broth. If kelp isn't available, then making miso would be very difficult, if not impossible. Other seaweeds can probably be more easily substituted. If you do visit someplace where Japanese food is available, try it!

The \phantom command isn't working inside the argument to the \begin{letter} command. I.e. the to address. I'm guessing this is because I'm trying to use a box inside a box. Is there an anternative for leaving space equivalent to a certain piece of text?

@JosephWright, @UlrikeFischer and @DavidCarlisle is it possible to install a single file for l3build check in the test directory? If I currently use something like checkdeps = {"../expkv/build/unpacked/expkv.tex"} I get "not a directory".

And doing checkdeps = {"../expkv/"} seems to not work, as the latest local version of expkv is still not used :(

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz not sure I understand, you mean to copy it from the build area in another repository? Not sure that's really supported but if that is what you want you could always call cp to move the file in checkinit_hook

@DavidCarlisle I decided to just put the one missing definition in the preamble in a way that'll throw an unpassed-check error once the update is deployed. This way I can write my checks and only have to make a small adjustment once they become invalid.

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz no same issue as maintence at our end, you need to change a comma in the doc for atbegshi and you have to rebuild everything so then they had to update everything run consistency checks on all the files, work out (if i didn't explictly say) how may of the 100 packages had changed dates so needed update catalogue entries etc. Now we can make an update to luacolor, test it package it and submit it and them update the ctan catalog in a few minutes
