When I am trying to update TeX Live I receive an error. Why does this happen and what does the error mean?
$ tlmgr update --self --all
/usr/local/texlive/2019/bin/x86_64-linux/tlmgr: unexpected return value from verify_checksum: -5
Is there some reason why Biber 2.14 is required for this version of TeX Live? Earlier it was 2.13, but I assume things have not changed much.
The reason I ask is that 2.14 requires a more recent version of Perl to cpmpile than available on Debian 10 (buster). It's not the first time I've run into this problem.
The workaround I've used before it to use an upstream binary for biber, but that's not really a nice solution.
Excuse me everybody....but is there a problem with MikTeX console?
I change the server but immediately I get the error screen: The remote package repository is outdated. You have to choose another repository. url="http://mirror.easyname.at/ctan/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packages/"
@StefanKottwitz Good morning :-):-) from the hot Sicily.
@FaheemMitha biber always seems to need a bleeding edge perl release not sure why really. I assume it's been 2.14 since texlive 2019 came out last year, but I don't follow biber developments much
@FaheemMitha It would seem so, unless it's mentioned in TeX the Program (which I haven't read). TbT mentions a pipeline of four processors: #1 is the input processor, which Knuth calls tex's eyes. #2 is the expansion processor, or tex's mouth according to Knuth. #3 and #4 together constitute what Knuth calls tex's stomach, with the execution processor primarily concerned with building lists and the visual processor doing the final steps of actual typesetting.
@Rmano Thank you very much for your kind answer. Around 17.30 Italian time miktex console works perfectly. It was probably off-line. My best regards. Sebastiano
