1:02 AM
@PhelypeOleinik -- I haven't found the videos for Doug McKenna's talk, but a search has determined that the slides for the talk do exist, linked from the web page for the TUGboat proceedings issue: tug.org/TUGboat/Contents/contents35-2.html That might be better than nothing.

1:26 AM
@barbarabeeton It would be a shame if these talks were lost. There seems to be many interesting topics there. But the article will do for now. Thanks a lot for looking into it!

By what option would you go?

1:47 AM
@manooooh -- Definitely option 2, but there may be regional differences. What I have recommended is the style used by U.S. publishers. Also, the first line should really start to the left of the second and following lines; also a U.S. style.

2:30 AM
@barbarabeeton oki doki, thanks! I would go for 2, toó. It is obvious, but for some teachers that I have the pleasure to be its student, it is not obvious. They not only choose option 1, but they also do not respect that in the first line there must go two expressions instead of 1
Another question: what is your favourite (or the correct): "I am a duckling, too" or "I am also a duckling"? This difference appears between US and British people?

3 hours later…
5:36 AM
What is wrong with this?:

\newsavebox\myBox
\def\mySave#1{\savebox\myBox{hello #1}}
\edef\myEdef{\mySave{some input}}

! Argument of \@savepicbox has an extra }.

@bp2017 You can't \edef the \savebox command, it's fragile
@bp2017 Use \protected@edef (needs \makeatletter)

@JosephWright, thanks.

@bp2017 Assignments are not expandable, exactly where the issue pops up doesn't really matter in a sense
@bp2017 Today, we'd probably make \savebox protected, so you wouldn't see the error, but I'm not sure you'd get the effect you want

I was looking to do the following:

\newsavebox\myBox
\def\mySave#1{\savebox\myBox{hello #1}}

\edef\myA{\mySave{one}}
\def\myReadyA{\resizebox{1ex}{1ex}{\usebox\myBox}}

\edef\myB{\mySave{two}}
\def\myReadyB{\resizebox{1ex}{1ex}{\usebox\myBox}}

This would've allowed \myBox to be reusable, instead of writing two separate boxes (\myBoxA with "hello one" and \myBoxB with "hello two").

5:52 AM
@bp2017 Huh? \myBox can at any point only have one content, but you can of course reset and reuse the box

@UlrikeFischer It seems as if I was just too eager with scoping commands. This fix seems to work github.com/hmenke/pgf/commit/… (at least it fixes your example and it still compiles the manual). Should I merge it?

@JosephWright, what if your boxes contain the same long paragraph and the only distinction between them is a single word? Wouldn't it make more sense to accept that word as an argument in a macro which sets/saves the box rather than creating two separate boxes? (Of course you can place a paragraph in a \def but it's different if the paragraph is actually a picture, which needs boxing to avoid nesting when placed inside another picture).

@bp2017 If you want to reuse the text, save as a macro. A box is a 'completed' piece of typesetting, you can't go back and change it, only reuse it 'as is'

@JosephWright, if I get it working, I'll get back to you on this and you'll see the difference (and see what I actually mean).
If not, I fail again.

@JosephWright One could use luatex and replace the nodes .;-)

6:03 AM
@UlrikeFischer Yes, I did think of that

yo'
6:35 AM
@PauloCereda just saw you country is also famous these days :)

6:58 AM
@bp2017 no a box is a typeset text you can not change a word in it.
@bp2017 if I understand what you want there, just use \def or better, \newcommand you don't want edef expansion at all.
@bp2017 vvvv
\newsavebox\myBox
\newcommand\mySave[1]{\sbox\myBox{hello #1}}
\newcommand\myReady{\resizebox{1ex}{!}{\usebox\myBox}}

\mySave{one}

\myready

\mySave{two}

\myready
@UlrikeFischer simpler ^^ :-)

@DavidCarlisle ;-). But I think the main reason for a box is so that is can be stored outside a tikz picture, and then changing it inside the tikz picture like this won't work.

@UlrikeFischer no @bp2017 can use `\mysave before the tikz and \myeready in it

@HenriMenke if I say yes, @DavidCarlisle will blame me if it breaks tikz ;-(.
@DavidCarlisle that's true for the first box. But what if @bp2017 wants to change and reuse the box inside the same tikz environment?
@DavidCarlisle I have been pondering about @AlexG's code here chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/50667436#50667436. That's an "ifthen" code right? And if .setopacityalpha is not known then it actually executes \special{ps: mark /CA 0.5 /ca 0.5 /SetTransparency pdfmark }?

7:24 AM
@UlrikeFischer Exactly, it works with both (Ghostscript vs Distiller) ways of setting-up transparency in PS for later conversion to PDF.

@AlexG yes I think I just found what was bothering me: the second syntax is (only) for distiller yes?

@UlrikeFischer Yes, it is.

@AlexG so I have no real way to check if it works correctly, unless I can find out how to use distiller :-)

@UlrikeFischer The reason is that PS has no concept of transparency. It is only for later conversion to PDF.

@AlexG yes I got this. But I was trying to understand what the second branch is doing, but found no trace of it in the pdf (after ps2pdf).

7:29 AM
@UlrikeFischer Yes, that's a real problem. In my institute we have a central Windows server with Distiller installed, though not the current DC, but Acrobat version XI. But it's enough for such tests.

@AlexG another question. pdfbase is using this syntax for the EMC (and similar for BDC): \special{ps:~SDict~begin~mark~/EMC~pdfmark~end}, while accsupp uses \special{ps:[/EMC~pdfmark}. Does it make a difference? Which do you recommend?
@AlexG I do have the distiller, I can run tests - it only needs more time if one has to consider this too ;-(.

@UlrikeFischer You can safely use the accsupp way. Pushing SDict on the dict stack doesn't make sense here, actually, as nothing is used from it, only /systemdict (which means built-in) commands mark and pdfmark are used. BTW [ and mark are the same PS commands. But I prefer mark because an unbalanced [ screws up syntax highlighting in my text editor.

@AlexG so \special{ps:~mark~/EMC~pdfmark}? ( the [ is bothering me too, I have to add a closing ] after a comment to get the brace matching on track again, if I can replace it, this would be fine)

@UlrikeFischer Yes. "[ ... pdfmark" and "mark ... pdfmark" are identical.

@AlexG does it matter if there is a space before the mark or not?

7:42 AM
@UlrikeFischer mark is a keyword in PS. Yes, there should be some space around it, as in any other programming language. But the amount of space doesn't matter.

@AlexG good. And for dvipdfmx, pdfbase uses code: \special{pdf:code~EMC} while accsupp uses content: \special{pdf:content~EMC}. Would this matter somewhere?

@UlrikeFischer For this I have to re-read the dvipdfmx doc, Maybe code and content are synonyms. But I am not sure.

the documentation of dvipdfmx says that code differs "from dvipdfm’s content special in that it does not enclose contents with a q and
Q (save-restore of graphics state) pair".

@AlexG Yeah, I favour mark: the [ syntax is just odd

EMC doesn't change the graphics state. So I thought saving it before EMC and restoring it afterwards would not be necessary. I have never seen EMC been bracketed as q EMC Q in any PDF code.

7:59 AM
@UlrikeFischer The HarfTeX change to l3build is in TeX Live

@AlexG for EMC is it clear, I also don't think that the BCD can contain anything problematic, so code should be fine.
@JosephWright I saw the mail yesterday ;-)

@JosephWright all you need now is harftex in texlive

@UlrikeFischer, @DavidCarlisle I missed on fix but I realise I want to hold that one back anyway (it's linked to LaTeX2e and the current branches, or rather I don't want to fix it until we merge dev in)

@DavidCarlisle I first should run the tests and harftex and look if the lastest changes broke something. But yesterday some tests failed on luatex because \kern0.28 (font) changed to kern0.28 again ;-(. I have no idea why. This (font) is appearing and disappearing on its own will.
@JosephWright I think I have worked out the bdc/Properties stuff. It works in all four backends.

8:20 AM
@UlrikeFischer BTW, original dvipdfm only had pdf:content. Perhaps accsupp wanted to be compatible with it?

@AlexG that's quite possible. With a lot of this code one has to keep in mind that it is often old, and perhaps simply had no alternative at the time it was written.

@UlrikeFischer check whether the raw log changed or if the l3build normalisation is different it tries to hide a lot of luatex differences there but it's quite fragile

8:36 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh, you are right, I updated l3build in between. The raw log shows \kern0.28 (font), but the l3build log \kern0.28. But what could have changed to give the difference?

@UlrikeFischer I wonder who we could blame for l3build changes?
@UlrikeFischer are you sure you are picking up the luatex-specific normalization? not changing the (font) part would be consistent with just using the standard normalisation

@DavidCarlisle I'm just downloading the newest l3build to check if my manual changes messed up something. But the problem is that the font part is changed (now), so if it is this problem, I must have messed it up when I generated the tlg.

@UlrikeFischer my advice is to blame Joseph either way.
3

@DavidCarlisle I think I can. I just run l3build save -eluatex and then l3build check -eluatex and the test failed ...

8:52 AM
@UlrikeFischer Ah, right: details?

@JosephWright I just tested in a small example. I will open an issue.

@UlrikeFischer I almost never use save I have to admit

@DavidCarlisle :)

@JosephWright I added the details. I don't think that it matters, but I have naturally a local luaotfload and development files in the format.

@UlrikeFischer, @DavidCarlisle, @egreg did anyone understand github.com/latex3/latex3/issues/597
@PhelypeOleinik You do know how you end up on the LaTeX team, don't you .... ;)

9:09 AM
@JosephWright by blaming someone already on the team?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen you got it wrong. The newest member has to take the blame ...

@HaraldHanche-Olsen No, that's just @DavidCarlisle: for LaTeX3 issues, blame me, for LaTeX2e ones, blame ... Frank or if really desparate Leslie Lamport :)

@JosephWright looked like advertisement for something to me.

@UlrikeFischer but isn’t that after getting on the team?

@UlrikeFischer Yes, I guess

9:14 AM
@JosephWright No.

9:29 AM
@UlrikeFischer Issue identified and fixed
@UlrikeFischer Missing parentheses

@JosephWright saw it, how embarassing - that's why it appeared yesterday, I made the same changes with the same error manually ;-).

@UlrikeFischer :)
@UlrikeFischer Uploaded
@UlrikeFischer There's also a normalisation change we need, but I realised it should be held until the LaTeX2e trees are sorted (i.e. after the dev release)
@DavidCarlisle Speaking of that, Frank keeps saying utf8andspace depends on you fixing some stuff ...

@JosephWright I applied manually and the checks works again ;-)

@UlrikeFischer Cool
@UlrikeFischer Should be in TL tomorrow I guess
@UlrikeFischer It's been a while since we needed any l3build changes: I really still need to sort stuff for biblatex I guess, but other than that it's pretty stable now

@JosephWright I'm still interested in running latex+dvips tests. Currently you can't even load regression-test as it inserts dvipdfmx-specials (and I'm quite willing in building dvipdfmxlatex and dvipslatex ;-)).

9:39 AM
@UlrikeFischer Hmm, OK. Do you want to log that as a feature request? We should think about the implications
@UlrikeFischer I've got to make changes for expl3-in-the-format too, so that would be a good opportunity. (That might not be in l3build core, but it is going to be needed somewhere)

What command do I need if I want to see what TeX expands a macro into? And can I get it for just one expansion?
This question seems relevant.

Q: LaTeX macro expander

Chris JohnsonIs it possible to have LaTeX (or another program) to expand a the macros in a .tex file, and output the expanded LaTeX source? If no such program exists: are LaTeX macros processed simply as string substitutions, before the document is interpreted? If so, it might be easy enough to write my own...

But there are a lot of answers.

@yo' ooh

@FaheemMitha You can just \show the macro (for the terminal) or using \meaning (to type the result)

@DavidCarlisle @AlanMunn oh

@JosephWright I'd like it written to the log, if possible.

9:53 AM
@FaheemMitha For example \message{\meaning\document}
@FaheemMitha Using \message rather than \show you don't have to worry about the run stopping

@JosephWright Ok, I'll try that. So that will just expand a single macro, right? And just do a single expansion?

@FaheemMitha Yes, that's a single expansion: it shows the current meaning of the token given

@JosephWright Ok.
Can \meaning be applied recursively, then?

@FaheemMitha ? \meaning returns catcode 12 tokens so there are no command tokens to show meaning of?

@DavidCarlisle I see.

10:03 AM
@JosephWright apparently if you had an l3 milestone, triaged all the issues that pblocked that, closed those issues, you could release latex3 and go home

What do I do if I want to see further expansion?

@FaheemMitha {\tracingall \section{foo} } is how i'd see the expansion of \section
@JosephWright yes I know

@DavidCarlisle Does that expand it completely?

@FaheemMitha yes or at least it logs all the actions of its normal use so it isn't like \meaning or \shoe it really sets a section, but logs what it does

@DavidCarlisle Ok. I'll experiment.
Thank you.

10:09 AM
@FaheemMitha \tracingall can produce a lot (and I mean a lot as in fill your disk) of tracing so only apply it to small parts, putting it at the top of a beamer document will produces gigabytes of log

@DavidCarlisle I was just going to apply it to a single (user defined) macro.
I hope that won't produce excessive amounts of data. Doesn't it stop once it's expanded things completely?

@FaheemMitha it's not like \meaning or \show that you apply to a token it is a switch that turns on tracing which is why I suggested starting a group typesetting a heading and then closing the group to stop tracing )

@DavidCarlisle So it will expand out everything? Not just a small part?
@DavidCarlisle Yes, I'd confine it to a group, naturally.

@FaheemMitha there is a clue in the name it traces everything, macro expansion if tests, line breaking, ...

Possibly too much of a good thing, but I'll try it.

10:13 AM
if you just want macro expansion use \tracingmacros=1 instead of \tracingall

There's also a trace package.
@DavidCarlisle Ok.
There's a very comprehensive list here - tex.stackexchange.com/q/60491/3406

10:29 AM
@DavidCarlisle \shoe? ...
@DavidCarlisle \trainer, \boot, :)

@JosephWright you are mean

@PauloCereda \welly :)

@JosephWright ooh :)

@FaheemMitha See also Bruno's unravel package

@JosephWright that's a good game for PS4. :)

@DavidCarlisle :)

@DavidCarlisle @JosephWright ^^
What could possibly go wrong?

@PauloCereda nothing

@DavidCarlisle Exactly!

10:36 AM
@PauloCereda blame @UlrikeFischer if it does. She's the windows person

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@UlrikeFischer LOL
@UlrikeFischer speaking of GOTO's, there's a lovely paper by Knuth himself praising its use. :)

11:19 AM
@UlrikeFischer one of my favourite xkcd. But Torvalds accepts goto in kernel code if it is necessary, if I recall correctly, so "how bad can it be?"

@JosephWright I heard someone got in after writing a key-val parser ;-)

11:39 AM
@PhelypeOleinik also, beers. :)

@PauloCereda Beers?

@PhelypeOleinik forget it, very convoluted joke. :)

@PauloCereda Sorry, I'm not aware of this one :)

11:55 AM
ooh land sharks

@PhelypeOleinik Might have done ...

@JosephWright If there's a position open I'd love to join :-)

@PhelypeOleinik where's the beerpay link again? :)

@PauloCereda This one: beerpay.io?
@PauloCereda You're talking a lot about beer today ;-)

@PhelypeOleinik ooh that one
@PhelypeOleinik and I don't drink, :)

12:06 PM
@PauloCereda Me neither

@PhelypeOleinik oh :)

@PauloCereda My engine runs on caffeine only. And tea, when it's cold
@PauloCereda coffeepay.io

@PhelypeOleinik Mine runs on water. I stopped drinking Coca-Cola. It's been 6 months...
@PhelypeOleinik if you mention Dolly, I am going to send a flock of angry ducks and geese after you. :)

@PauloCereda Wow, it's been ages since I last heard that name.

@PhelypeOleinik Me too. :) It's been ages since I saw one in the market.

12:12 PM
@PauloCereda I only saw those in advertisements. Small city things.

@PhelypeOleinik I am going to flag this as offensive. :)

@PauloCereda I won't judge :-)

@PhelypeOleinik LOL
@PhelypeOleinik have you ever seen guaraná Jesus? I only know the tale. :)
I know it's from the Coca-Cola company and it's pink like Pepto Bismol.
And it has cinnamon!

@PauloCereda Never heard of it. Here in the RS they have Fruki, which is a Dolly with less shipping costs.
@PauloCereda Weird...

@PhelypeOleinik Talk about localisation. My city has a soft drink brand as well...

12:15 PM
@PauloCereda Dolly?

@PhelypeOleinik Nah, it's called Aliança.
Local production.
@PhelypeOleinik you should not drink tea but chimarrão. :)

@PauloCereda My girlfriend says she already had Guaraná Jesus. She says it's like liquid sugar.

@PhelypeOleinik Wow!

@PauloCereda I drink that too, but mostly when I go home (I'm from Santa Catarina).

@PhelypeOleinik I occasionally drink it, but I never find good mate around. And that includes the ones for chimarrão and tereré.
@PhelypeOleinik One of the most beautiful states in Brazil!

12:19 PM
@JosephWright Ok

@PauloCereda There are some brands which are too bitter, then it's almost disgusting. And tereré is just weird... As weird as guaraná Jesus :P
@PauloCereda I don't know much of it, but I like it there.

@PhelypeOleinik My thoughts exactly. And yes, for a chimarrão drinker, tereré is almost a blasphemy, specially when prepared with lemon. :)

@PauloCereda If we meet some day I'll make you a decent chimarrão. No lemons.

@PhelypeOleinik ooh :)
@PhelypeOleinik When life gives you melons... don't put them in your chimarrão, you bloody bastard!
:D

@PhelypeOleinik Positions just 'appear' ... you might find yourself on the team list Real Soon Now

12:24 PM
@PauloCereda LOL

@JosephWright YAY
@JosephWright So he takes the blame position as well, right? :)

@PauloCereda See the starred comment, I'm afraid

@JosephWright Cool :D

@JosephWright it's because they love you. :)

@PauloCereda DEK accepts them, too, if necessary. Good to hear.

12:26 PM
@PhelypeOleinik Seriously, you and @egreg can handle the 'user promotion' part of the work, leaves @UlrikeFischer and me to do all the PDF stuff and @DavidCarlisle to do ... things

@JosephWright besides, you are the one taking your laptop to breakfast table, which means you are efficient and productive. :)
@Skillmon Quack. <3
@JosephWright I love the last bit. :)

@JosephWright I've been doing some of that, here and there :-)
@JosephWright I noticed a decent amount of users giving a try at expl3 lately.

@PauloCereda Er .. yes
@PhelypeOleinik Exactly
@PhelypeOleinik I'll tip you off about the Highly Secret News then ... if that's OK (will do it by email)
@PauloCereda Well Frank is busy writing ...

@JosephWright Sure! Do you have my e-mail?

@PhelypeOleinik I can look it up from your profile, if that's OK

12:36 PM
@JosephWright I don't think it shows up there...

@PhelypeOleinik Does for me, but I need permission to use it for non-TeX-sx issues
@PhelypeOleinik Remember I have mod privileges

@JosephWright Oh, right!

@JosephWright or not do things, depending how much time I have

@PhelypeOleinik Message sent

@JosephWright ah!

12:45 PM
@JosephWright Received :-)

@PauloCereda Found it?

@JosephWright I remember things now. :)

@DavidCarlisle So no UTF-8 and spaces?

@PhelypeOleinik If you haven't noticed by now, @PauloCereda has a taste for the weird.

@AlanMunn Nutella pizza is good.

12:51 PM
@PauloCereda Tereré is the nutella pizza of chimarrão.

@AlanMunn That's semantically mean. :)

@AlanMunn I should be able to at least look and just get it signed off..

@DavidCarlisle ??? intended for @JosephWright?

@AlanMunn Pretty good typo!

@AlanMunn pizza feelings

12:56 PM
@PauloCereda Nothing more than...

@AlanMunn apparently this applies to accuracy of comment selection as well chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/50833572#50833572

@PauloCereda but it is not a pizza

So, when using tracingmacro, in the following output:
\protected@write #1#2#3->\begingroup \let \thepage \relax #2\let \protect \@une
xpandable@protect \edef \reserved@a {\write #1{#3}}\reserved@a \endgroup \if@no
break \ifvmode \nobreak \fi \fi
#1<-\@auxout
#2<-
#3<-\string \newlabel {\theletternum :##1}{{\@currentlabel }{\thepage }}
The #1 etc. at the bottom correspond to the values in the preceding expression, correct?

@FaheemMitha Yes, #1, etc. refer to the macro just above

That seems the only reasonable interpretation, but I thought I'd ask, regardless.
@JosephWright Ok, thanks for confirming.

@FaheemMitha yes you are tracing a specific execution with actual arguments

That's a helpful breakdown.
@DavidCarlisle Ok. How does it work, exactly? Are those value substituted next?

1:29 PM
@FaheemMitha yes that's how tex macros work

@DavidCarlisle Ok.

@DavidCarlisle Appendix A of my thesis. :)

@PauloCereda if only you'd have written enough to require an appendix

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@PauloCereda Thesis?

1:32 PM
@FaheemMitha surprisingly yes. :)

@DavidCarlisle Sometimes I think @PauloCereda has a point about the mean thing.
@PauloCereda Is it time for congratulations?

Jan 12 '16 at 12:15, by David Carlisle
@PauloCereda finished your thesis?

@FaheemMitha it's been a year, actually. :)
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@FaheemMitha Let me find a bit, hold on...

@FaheemMitha if you search for repostings of the above you will find it was posted even more times than the "mean" one, always with the answer no (not always truthfully) so don't blame me:-)

@DavidCarlisle men one?

1:34 PM
@FaheemMitha ^^ :)

@PauloCereda So, is David included in the acknowledgements?

@FaheemMitha he is! :) (got it!)

@PauloCereda You mean, "he is"?

@FaheemMitha they are. :)

Heh.

1:36 PM
:D

@FaheemMitha he's not very good at English you have to make allowances (comes from being on the wrong side of the Atlantic)

@DavidCarlisle ˙ɐᴉlɐɹʇsn∀ uᴉ uᴉǝq ɹoɟ llᴉM ǝɯɐlq plnoɔ ǝʍ

@DavidCarlisle The British don't always speak English well either. Allow me to refer you to one Henry Higgins.
Either the Shavian flavour, or the Lerner/Lowe flavour, as you prefer.

@PauloCereda did you manage to read my comment above (to Alan) ?

@FaheemMitha ^^ :)
@DavidCarlisle ooh

1:39 PM
@PauloCereda Are those extracts from your acknowledgements?

@JosephWright I got all testfiles for luaotfload sorted for luatex + harftex, and now it fails for the experimental luatex (which is another path) as it is called luatex but should use the harftex.tlg -files ;-(. Life is hard ...

@FaheemMitha Yes. :)

Exciting.

@AlanMunn I noticed a tendency :-)

@PhelypeOleinik Ask @AlanMunn's favourite football team. :)

1:45 PM
@PauloCereda (Another joke I won't understand, but) would it be São Paulo @AlanMunn?

@UlrikeFischer That's pretty tricky

@JosephWright and now I got an assertion error in the test file which load luatex-ja ;-(

@UlrikeFischer Urgh

@UlrikeFischer you mean a assert() from the luatex-ja user Lua code or a C assert error from crashing the luatex engine itself?

1:52 PM
@UlrikeFischer ah the latter :(

@DavidCarlisle luatex-ja breaks with harftex too, but there because the fontloader-library is not there anymore.

ABBRENCHEN
German messages look scarier. :)

@PauloCereda My thought was that since you are stuffed whichever option you choose they just stuck some random letters on each of the buttons.

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PhelypeOleinik Some @PauloCereda jokes are ununderstandable even to the people mentioned in them. I was expecting to find some prior chat message in which I mentioned Grêmio, but no luck.

2:04 PM
@AlanMunn So Internacional it is, right? :)
@PhelypeOleinik ^^

@AlanMunn Oh, the blue team!
@PauloCereda And here's the red team. That's as far as my knowledge of football goes.

@PhelypeOleinik c'mon! You are a Brazilian!
We need to be annoying with our football teams!

@PauloCereda Football and beer

@PhelypeOleinik Exactly! :)

@PauloCereda Here in RS people are either blue team or red team (sounded like Pokémon). Anything else is blasphemy

2:07 PM
@PhelypeOleinik (LOL we need Pokémon Yellow now)

@DavidCarlisle gpthpy 'm '

@PhelypeOleinik sounds about right. :)

@PauloCereda People's face when I say “I don't watch football” is just amusing

@PhelypeOleinik I know, right! :)

@AlanMunn did I, oh well:-)

2:10 PM
@PauloCereda It's probably the same face @CarLaTeX makes when you say “Nutella pizza is good”.

@PhelypeOleinik bah. :)

@PauloCereda I have to agree with you, though. Some weeks ago I learned how to make pizza. Obviously I put nutella on it :D

@PhelypeOleinik THANK YOU
@CarLaTeX ^^ see

@PhelypeOleinik OH NO

@CarLaTeX It may not be called pizza, but it is good :-)

2:13 PM
@PhelypeOleinik LOL
Now, let's throw another question:
Does a pizza need to be round?

@PauloCereda Trick question? It's easier to spread the dough in a round-ish shape.

@PhelypeOleinik ooh

2:30 PM
@PauloCereda No, it can be also rectangular

@CarLaTeX but then it's not a pizza. @PhelypeOleinik ^^ :)

@PauloCereda shape doesn't count, ingredients do

@CarLaTeX here we go. :)

2:33 PM
@PauloCereda yummy yummy

@CarLaTeX er... its Hawaiian...
Which means...

@PauloCereda I noticed it just a second after sending the message lol

@CarLaTeX I should've waited for the message to be kept forever. :)

@PauloCereda Fortunately, I made it on time to remove it

@CarLaTeX :D

2:36 PM
@PauloCereda I realized before your message - no chance

@CarLaTeX You could flag for moderator attention, surely. :)

@CarLaTeX lol what happens with "yummy" in this context?

@PauloCereda Of course, it hurts Italians' sensibility

@PauloCereda Oh, no, pineapple no.

@manooooh It was a typo :)

2:38 PM
Oh

2:58 PM
@PauloCereda it's the wrong shape, otherwise looks perfect

29 mins ago, by CarLaTeX
@PauloCereda shape doesn't count, ingredients do

@DavidCarlisle -- Rectangular is okay, but it should be covered with thin fresh tomato slices and pesto, or with slivers of artichoke hearts and black olives.

@barbarabeeton except for the pesto <3<3<3

@CarLaTeX -- Why not pesto? (This is a "white" pizza.)

@CarLaTeX s/pesto/nutella/g

3:11 PM
@barbarabeeton Never seen pesto on pizza
@barbarabeeton pesto is for pasta :)

@CarLaTeX -- Ah, okay. (Think of it as a variation on basil leaves. It's quite pretty. And I agree that pesto is lovely on pasta.)
@PauloCereda -- Nutella is pretty good on matzo. But not on pizza crust.

@barbarabeeton on crepes, too!

@barbarabeeton ooh
@CarLaTeX and pizzas!
(")>

@CarLaTeX -- Yes!

@barbarabeeton pesto doesn't go well with pineapple though

3:17 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- I never claimed that. And, in fact, I never mentioned that pineapple should go on pizza, and won't.

@DavidCarlisle Oh, eventually a British who says something right about food!

@barbarabeeton you got mail. :)

3:40 PM
MSWord autocorrect apparently turns Trentino into Toronto. #learningfromstudents

@AlanMunn Ooopsy
@AlanMunn For me, it turns 'carbene' (a technical term for a type of chemical structure) into 'carbine': err ...

@JosephWright I know we pronounce the name of our city with only 2 syllables, but I don't think that counts as making Toronto a language. :)

@AlanMunn 'Tron-toe'?

@JosephWright Adds a little bang to your papers.

@AlanMunn :)

3:43 PM
@JosephWright Tronno.

@AlanMunn Ah, right

@JosephWright It's a pretty good shibboleth for locals.

@AlanMunn LOL

@JosephWright -- The one i get is "TeXbook" into "textbook". Grrr.

@barbarabeeton Argh

3:59 PM
@JosephWright Luigi confirmed the assertion error on linux.
