8:00 PM
@Lacey ? I thought you just showed it worked already?

@yo' I don't use mobile internet at all. Most of the time I'm near a Wi-Fi I can use (home, university, etc) and the rest of the time I don't want internet :)

@DavidCarlisle only if you include a table of contents and a subsection. or that enter and exit math mode once thing
oddly enough using table of contents and sections won't make it work, you need subsections

yo'
@Skillmon my metro rides became much more fun when they covered the tubes with 4G :D

Excuse me for my intrusion. Hi all users into chat.
There is a old question:
2
Q: Changing the style of an 1-cell inside a 2-cell diagram, in xy

Fosco LoregianIs it possible to modify the style of the arrows in a 2-cell in xy? \documentclass{standalone} \usepackage{amsmath,amssymb,amsfonts} \usepackage[all,2cell]{xy} \UseAllTwocells \begin{document} \xymatrix{ &B \ar[d]^g\dllowertwocell^{fg}_{1}{\epsilon} \\ B \ar[r]_g \ar[ur] & A } \end{document}...

@Lacey but \textcenterdasterisk is better anyway, using math commands that just happen to work by accident outside of math in lautex is a bit unstable.

8:02 PM
that is the same of this link de.switch-case.com/71776766

@yo' I'm listening to music or audio books on the bus rides, so no need for internet there, too, and Bayreuth has no metro.

@DavidCarlisle i never even knew \ast and friends were meant for math only, to be entirely honest. i just sort of always used it.

What actions should a user like me take?

yo'
@Skillmon music ok. Audio books I mostly hate these.

@Skillmon I pretty much only use mobile data for google maps satnav if going somewher enew

8:03 PM
The TeXbook as audio book, with DEK as reader. That would be something! :)
4

@DavidCarlisle I have offline OSM on my mobile, but that's understandable.
@mickep I second this!

Thank you for a suggestion.

@Sebastiano No actions unless you have a an xy solution to add as an answer.

@Sebastiano create a new question, change things around a bit, and make sure no one notices its a duplicate :p

@Lacey @AlanMunn If you knew English well, it would be better for me. I don't understand what the user is requesting. :-)

8:06 PM
wait do you want to respond to the question, or need an answer?

@Sebastiano well if you don't understand the question don't do anything, so that's simple. (what is that switch-case site?)

@yo' I'd prefer reading, but somehow I don't really find the time to read lately, and I have access to many audio books, which I can fit in between the short breaks of my schedule.

@Sebastiano So then ignore the question. It's also more than a year old, and the OP says they know how to do this with tikz-cdso I assume they've solved their problem by now.

@DavidCarlisle it is a site that parses stackexchange, translates it to another language to avoid google detecting it as a duplicate content, then rakes in ad revenue :D

@Lacey oh I should make one of those, will I get rich? :-)

8:08 PM
@DavidCarlisle non ironically you could make good money if you spend a lof of time doing these dark web patterns :D

Yes of course :-). If I do it then I will get a waterfall of downvotes and certainly and I bring some haters to my house :-)

@Sebastiano so why bring up the question at all?

I think he has a specific thing he wanted to do, but it got lost in translation

No no no I don't do anything. I have simply observed that the question asked about TeX.SE. was the same on the site I indicated. I didn't intend to answer.

I don't think the site is a real site, I am afraid

8:10 PM
@Lacey the original questioner had a real question but why is @Sebastiano highlighting it now?

@DavidCarlisle turns out it was because he found the same question on another site, thinking maybe it was answered there?

@DavidCarlisle Because when I'm unsure, I ask the best of you what to do. Basically like last time I ask for an opinion. That's it.

@Sebastiano I suspect @Lacey is right and that is a spam site that just copies the questions.
@Lacey no (there is some history here:-)

what would the history? :D

@Sebastiano it just seems strange, but OK.

8:12 PM
@Sebastiano is this the history

@Lacey @DavidCarlisle @AlanMunn That's perfect. Thank you all from the heart. A greeting and a strong hug. Bye and a good continuation in the chat room.

you have a talent for confusing people :p

@Lacey can you do me a favour? When you're replying to someone click the reply button (if you hover over the message the small grey arrow on the right). That way it is less confusing what you're meaning.
@Lacey unfortunately there is no key combination for that, I'm afraid.

@Skillmon i also have a talent for confusing people :o

@Lacey it's just easier to follow conversations that way, especially since there might be a lot of parallel conversations and somebody might be contributing to multiple ones.

8:21 PM
i have to go actually anyway, im just browing that latex3 thing in the background. its rather interesting as a project
good night everyone!

8:47 PM
@AlanMunn I need to implement this figure in my thesis:
using Latex
and I am trying to figure out these two posts

Q: How to draw such arrows in the table?

Q: How to Create a Table in Tikz with Arrows from One Cell to Another?

1-approximationI would like to reproduce a table in tikz with arrows from predefined cell to another predefined cell. Something looks like this. What I did was the following: \documentclass{standalone} \usepackage{tikz} \usetikzlibrary{calc,matrix,positioning} \tikzset{ table/.style={ matrix ...

to see if I could.. as of now I have this
\begin{table}[!htb]
\centering
\begin{tabular}{|c||c|c|c|c|}\hline
\diagbox[outerrightsep=10pt, innerrightsep = -10pt, width = 7em]{Ara}{IPTG aTc}
&\makebox[2em]{0 0}&\makebox[2em]{0 1}&\makebox[2em]{1 1}
&\makebox[2em]{1 0}\\ \hline\hline
0 & 1 \tikzmark{a} & 0 & 0 & 0 \tikzmark{b} \\ \hline
1 & 1 & 1 & 0 & 1\\ \hline
\end{tabular}
\begin{tikzpicture}[overlay, remember picture, shorten <=-3pt]
%\draw[->] (a.center) to (b.center);
\draw [->, xshift=7ex] ({pic cs:a}) to ({pic cs:b});
%\draw [->] ([yshift=.75pt]{pic cs:a}) -- ({pic cs:c});
but no matter how much tinkering, I can't make it behave like I want

Why is the internet so bright?

@PedroFontanarrosa best to make a complete example people can run, not a fragment and ask a new question, linking to the older questions and saying what error you got.

ok perfect
will do that!
thank you

@PedroFontanarrosa The new tikzmark library allows you to achieve that in a much easier way than what the answer to the first linked question suggests.

it does?
ok I'll check out the specification then

8:57 PM
@PedroFontanarrosa So you should definitely post a new question (with a compilable example) and before you are finished writing it @marmot will have posted an answer. :)

jajajjaja
I am doing the post RN

@AlanMunn Yes, my answer is the statement above. ;-)
@PedroFontanarrosa Yes, it has the command \tikzmarknode, which was added last year.

Q: Arrows within a table, and to a table?

Pedro FontanarrosaSo, I need to copy the following table to my thesis: and I am trying to follow these 2 related questions: How to draw such arrows in the table? How to Create a Table in Tikz with Arrows from One Cell to Another? However, no matter how much tinkering I do, I can make the dumb arrow move. Here...

ok I will check it out.. thank you @marmo
@marmot

@PedroFontanarrosa Please add `\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{tikz}` (or another document class) to the preamble.

would it be possible to also make that arrow that comes from outside the table?
ok will do

9:05 PM
@PedroFontanarrosa as I said, examples (in any question) should be code people can run, not fragments.

I think now everything is there
sorry, super new to LaTeX

@PedroFontanarrosa no that's worse! no one out of your institution has that class, make an example with article (checking the problem still occurs)

ups.. o
ok

I just get:
! LaTeX Error: File `uuthesis2e.cls' not found.

Type X to quit or <RETURN> to proceed,
or enter new name. (Default extension: cls)

Enter file name:

it works with {article}

9:10 PM
@PedroFontanarrosa thanks for the edit:-)

fixed it and edited it
thank you for your direction!
I have to learn

@PedroFontanarrosa no harm done:-)

What's the naming convention for a function that returns a non-boolean value into the stream? Do we append _p to the function name or is such appendage intended only for boolean return-values?

@bp2017 Huh?

@bp2017 expl3 question I assume, I don't think there is any convention (as far as I understand the question)

9:19 PM
@DavidCarlisle Well there are not actually any return values ..

@JosephWright that was the "as far as I understand" part... I was trying to guess interpretations

@JosephWright, @DavidCarlisle, the names of the function that return values directly into the stream (instead of setting a variable passed to them) in the "latex3 interfaces" documentation have "_p" appended to them. But all of them seem to return boolean (true/false) values into the stream. I was wondering whether I should append "_p" to my function name if it returns a dim value (not a bool value) into the stream.
Or is "_p" suffix in function names only to signal that a bool value is outputted (not returned, OK) into the stream directly.

@bp2017 No, _p is for a predicate: a function that expands to a dim or whatever has no particular naming

@JosephWright, but predicates are determined by true or false (which is a bool value)?
That's what I'm trying to understand here.
If I return true into the stream, is it a predicate function then?
And then if I return a dim into the stream, it's not a predicate?

@bp2017 yes

9:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle, thank you.

@bp2017 although as @JosephWright says things don't really return, they just expand

@bp2017 That's what 'predicate' means ...
> state, affirm, or assert (something) about the subject of a sentence or an argument of a proposition.

@bp2017 with the ..p naming coming from lisp cs.cmu.edu/Groups/AI/html/cltl/clm/node69.html

@DavidCarlisle, that's an informative link. Thank you (@JosephWright too).

@bp2017 the link to lisp is somewhat nebulous "ideas in the air" rather than any actual traceable link history.

Hello to the best TeXers of the Universe!

`\documentclass[]{scrreprt}`

`\chapter[My short chapter title]{My chapter title}`

A question:
How is the command to get `My chapter title` or `My short chapter title` ?

@marmot
you are a magician

@PedroFontanarrosa ^^^ (You're welcome. ;-)

yo'
@cis well, for the short one, try \leftmark or \rightmark, though it's not reliable.

cis
@yo' Mmmh, does not work in my document.

@cis you can only (usefully) access marks in the page head or foot

cis
10:14 PM
@DavidCarlisle Maybe, the solution is written here: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/62241/…

@cis yes something like that if the koma classes don't have something built in alternative being one of the nameref variants

cis
@DavidCarlisle

`\newcommand{\currentchapter}{}
\let\oldchapter\chapter
\renewcommand{\chapter}[1]{\oldchapter{#1}\renewcommand{\currentchapter}{#1}}`

Yes!!!!!!

@cis that redefinition disables most of the chapter syntax, no star form, no optional argument. If that is OK in your case, that's Ok

@cis and what about the optional argument?

cis
@DavidCarlisle @UlrikeFischer Yes, you are right my Lady and Gentleman... So, me ---> :((
So I think, I have to read the nameref-manual....

10:31 PM
@cis The tocentry value is stored in \@currenttocentry

cis
@AlanMunn ` \@currenttocentry` gives me the word ' currenttocentry' ...

@cis To use it you'd need to wrap it in a macro since it has an @ in it.
\documentclass{scrreprt}
\begin{document}
\makeatletter
\newcommand{\CurrentTOCentry}{\@currenttocentry}
\makeatother
\chapter[short]{long}
\CurrentTOCentry
\chapter{long}
\CurrentTOCentry
\end{document}

cis
@AlanMunn Ah ok, I think I understand...
But I think, there is a problem too. I only need to get the current chapter- and section-title; but I need to use subsection too.
