@mickep -- Okay; got an answer. There's no definitive documentation; this conjecture is from one of the production editors who was there when the change was made. The amsthm definitions were created to parallel the existing definition in the basic article et al. It's likely that it was felt that the small caps heading, with or without extra space above/below the enunciation, didn't stand out enough, so boldface and left-aligned, with space above, would be more obvious.

@JosephWright I think it's right (but would need to trace) vsize 72 sub is subtracting an inch from vsize (which as far as I can see is stored using bp units, tex.lpro initialises it to /vsize 11 72 mul N ie 11in.

Probably your perl reports the correct $OSNAME then, if a perl from a msys bash is used it dies, as this reports "msys" and not "MSWIN".

@JosephWright hm, not sure if I understand. You mean with pdflatex one could put /Border in the attribute argument but with dvips this doesn't work?

@JosephWright I looked at this border question. If I got it right hyperref writes Border [1 0 1]BorderArrayPatch and the keyword triggers then some recalculation later. Did you check if this patch is still needed?

@JosephWright: To my understanding the /DEST pdfmark expects coordinates in bp, relative to the page origin (0,0) in the lower left page corner. I tried to implement \pdfdest for the usual drivers in pdfbase (gitlab.com/agrahn/media9/raw/pdfdest/pdfbase.sty). Here is a test file with a FitR example (AR preferred):

@DavidCarlisle I don't understand anything at all from this, but why is your build using icu_63 when my binary needs icu 64?

@UlrikeFischer I just did git clone ...; cd harftex; build.sh don't ask me:-) perhaps Akira updated ICU while building the w32tex version?

@UlrikeFischer, @DavidCarlisle Key point is: at least on Windows, it's pretty trivial to install and test HarfTeX. I've added it to my TeXworks menus, and have been able to check it against the new driver code :)

@UlrikeFischer I think I might add something for shipout support in l3trial. My feeling is we really don't want to code this twice: it should just go directly into the expl3 kernel, we then say 'resource management = require expl3' and try to convince people (mainly @HenriMenke as we control e.g. hyperref) to get on with it.

@JosephWright yep there are also linux and macos binaries on the harftex gh releases page, just hard for people who insist on minority platforms like cygwin...

@JosephWright I'm happy to adapt to that but there are two prerequisites: (1) The shipout stuff has to be part of the LaTeX format, because loading times of expl3 are absolutely abysmal. (2) There has to be the freedom for some level of abstraction, because PGF/TikZ has to support different formats.

@HenriMenke ? it takes ages to load pgf due to the multiple small files, expl3 on pdftex is nothing compared to that (a bit longer for unicode-texs due to loading the unicode data files)

@DavidCarlisle Exactly, loading PGF takes ages, so I don't want to bloat that even further with exp3.

@HenriMenke (but for latex we should get it in to the format anyway:-)

@HenriMenke concatenate the pgf files and you'd save far more time than you would ever save by not loading expl3, loading lots of small files kills the load time.

@DavidCarlisle When using LuaTeX, loading expl3 in addition to tikz roughly doubles the startup time of the document. I don't want to do that to my users.

@HenriMenke as I say we should get it in to the format (and can possibly do a minimal version for plain, the time is almost all loading the unicode data) for lualatex users they pretty much always load expl3 anyway (for fontspec) so it's not really extra time (but having it the format would solve that anyway)

@DavidCarlisle I will think about concatenating the PGF files, but that will be non-trivial. There might be circular dependencies.

@HenriMenke I just thought it funny that the tikz maintainer of all people should call the expl3 load times "absolutely abysmal" as tikz is by far the slowest package to load that I know of:-)

I use latex (obviously pdflatex won't work with pstricks)

yes but it's 10 times faster than mine to load tikz anyway:-) (mine's not the fastest machine but it does have ssd shouldn't be )that_ slow :(

Just tried on a machine with TeX Live 2019 and a much faster CPU and I get
