ooh Christmas is close
@JosephWright do they really check (and complain) for spaces in %?
@JosephWright oh no, I forgot presents
/quacks in despair

@PauloCereda The say there should be a space between the number and %

@JosephWright Hm

@JosephWright Hi. Can you give Nicola a ping concerning latex.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=107741#p107741

@Johannes_B Hola señor penguino

@PauloCereda Hola señor pato :-)

@Johannes_B And let me introduce...
@Skillmon Hola señor conejo
:)

:-)
@JosephWright I just remembered i can ping nicola myself at latex.org. I left her a PM.
@PauloCereda @Skillmon Conejos son muy delicioso

@egreg ^^ :)

@PauloCereda Well said!

@UlrikeFischer I’m starting to think overloading mode might not be the most ideal solution, I still want Renderer=AAT/OT/Graphite to work with HarfBuzz, but fontspec maps Renderer to mode in LuaTeX which just complicates things.
@UlrikeFischer luatexbase shouldn’t be needed, let me double check that.

@KhaledHosny All looks good to me thus-far

@JosephWright Nice
@UlrikeFischer I did this and the PDF I get it identical, so I guess \defaultfontfeatures{RawFeature={mode=harf}} is good enough and the later mode=harf overrides the former mode=node.

1:55 PM
@UlrikeFischer ah right, luatexbase is needed because ltluatex’s add_to_callback does not support priority argument, and I need that to put my callbacks before luaotfload’s otherwise things break.

2:17 PM
@KhaledHosny changing fontspec to adapt to this should be easy. Now that I can test stuff I can discuss such things with Will. How does your fontloader expects the info about AAT/OT etc? How does the plain call looks like?
@KhaledHosny Ah. We should ask @DavidCarlisle about this after Christmas.
@KhaledHosny May be, but I don't want to rely on such implicit overrides, better get it right.
@KhaledHosny how should one test if the new binary is used? (in lua and in tex)? Does it have some unique primitive or something like this?

@UlrikeFischer You can check for require("luaharfbuzz") and check if it it is not nil, that is the only difference from vanilla luatex.
@UlrikeFischer I haven’t worked that out yet, but I can either add shaper=aat/ot/graphite or adapt XeTeX’s /AAT/OT/GR font modifiers. HarfBuzz should handle things by default, this would only be used to explicitly select a specific shaper if a font supports more than one.

2:44 PM
@KhaledHosny sorry I meant to fix that for the release just before Christmas, but it slipped past,

@DavidCarlisle I thought the conclusion was this is by design, I’m happy with requiring luatexbase. May be you it mixed with github.com/latex3/latex2e/issues/93

@KhaledHosny sorry yes the priority thing is by design i was thinking about the issue that you can not access new callbacks at all github.com/latex3/latex2e/issues/93

3:04 PM
@DavidCarlisle regarding "slipped past" before I forget it completly: any objection that I add the code to hyperref github.com/ho-tex/hyperref/issues/81#issuecomment-448947969?

Kids these days. 😂
Damn you enumerate environment! :)

3:23 PM

@DavidCarlisle fine, I will update.

Wishing all users of TEX.SE good health, abundance and happiness. This message is for all. I wish you and your family a joyful, serene and white Christmas.

@KhaledHosny @UlrikeFischer I compiled luahbtex on cygwin (it worked this time, or at least appeared to work:-) but the luahb-harf text-latex file fails (just) on the color emoji it get right to the end but then has a fatal error loading the font
This is LuaHBTeX, Version 1.09.1 (TeX Live 2019/dev)  (format=lualatex 2018.12.24)  24 DEC 2018 19:56

Here is how much of LuaTeX's memory you used:

 419 words of node memory still in use:
   3 hlist, 1 vlist, 1 rule, 2 glue, 3 kern, 1 glyph, 6 attribute, 49 glue_spec,

@DavidCarlisle I couldn't test this font - the website says that it doesn't work on windows: google.com/get/noto/help/emoji.

@UlrikeFischer yes you can't install it in windows but (I thought, perhaps) if you put it in some other directory searched by fontconfig that the resulting pdf would still be viewable, that's why that one is in ~/.fonts

@DavidCarlisle Oh, that's an idea. I will try.

@UlrikeFischer for the rest, if it looks like this I assume it is in fact correct text?

@DavidCarlisle ;-). You could compare with the pdf in the github if all the wriggles are the same.
@DavidCarlisle when I copy simply the ttf from github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji/tree/master/fonts, then I get a different error:
! error: (pdf backend): internal error: unknown image type
! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

8:18 PM
@UlrikeFischer that one might be newer than the one I tried, I note last checkin ther esays new images added, let me try...
@UlrikeFischer still get same error (and am out of time for a bit) apparently something's on tomorrow and I'm supposed to help prepare...

@DavidCarlisle ;-). (But I have a newer luaotfload here, so it is quite possible that we get different outputs.)

Happy Christmas everyone, don't eat all the ducks.

@DavidCarlisle Happy Christmas to you too - and we had "gefüllte Kalbsbrust" - no duck.
