@hftf I don't dispute it, but things should not be classified as black or white. I use a lot of TeX on a daily basis, but the reason I have a permanent browser tab opened in the chat room is because I like to hang out here and spend time with friends. I don't see this community as my personal technical support. One can think along those lines, and I respect that. I have 7+ years of TeX.sx, and I arrived for the code, but stayed for the people.

@hftf Just to say that I agree with @PauloCereda. First of all, I don't see how these jokes hurt anybody. Second, users answering questions on this site do not get paid, so why shouldn't they be allowed to exchange duck cartoons? I'd actually like to argue that these cartoons attract users, and thus make it more likely to provide people with good answers.

@hftf Please don't leave! You got the power: downvote or vote to close! Everybody here knows how much I love ducks, I also am the main culprit of the duck flooding, because I requested the tikzducks package. However, I agree with you that duck posts receive too much undeserved votes, but their number is very little compared to the total.
@hftf The just-do-it-for-me tikz questions, instead, are a lot. I always downvote them if they are by old users. I used to answer them when I was a TeX.SE newbie, but soon I realized that it gives a wrong signal, because a user who promised me to add a MWE the next time, continued to ask other questions without any MWE and getting answers. I think you should be more severe in these cases. But please, allow us to joke, real life is already sad enough!
2
@hftf ... we should be more severe ... (typo). See also here: tex.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/7627/…. Wait - but you are a turtle!

@PauloCereda No need to apologize. I didn't intend to blame you or any other person if that's what it came across as; I was only responding to the chat from you because I saw it had 7 stars in the sidebar.

@CarLaTeX @hftf Don't forget that you can choose to ignore tags that don't interest you: If you don't want to see questions, just ignore them. There are two options for ignored tags: De-emphasize them, or hide them away altogether. It might make your experience more enjoyable.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Thanks, and I have already ignored some tags. Again, it's not as simple as ignoring "ducks" or other uninterested topics in TeX SX main namespace questions. For example, it's hard for a day to pass in this chat room without encountering the "duck" meme several times (search "duck" and see what I mean). Ducks also seem to be creeping into unrelated questions (and now, as someone mentioned not too far above, even into scientific publications).
@marmot I think I addressed that argument above ("a commenter who believed…"). The reason I returned to this chat to voice my unpopular opinion at all was to simply offer a single data point of evidence against "cartoons attract users" as at least one person so far (me) explicitly left because of it.

@hftf I know. I have been hanging out in the chat room for quite a while, so I am well aware of the quackiness here. It does indeed get out of hand from time to time. I may even have been guilty of contributing to the madness myself. As for the scientific publications, not the serious ones, I think. But in popularised science, I think some use of TikZducks is great (if done in moderation, as with all things).

What I never said was that people should or shouldn't be allowed to post jokes or have fun here. It just turns out that kind of environment stopped meeting my personal needs or interests.

6:39 AM
@hftf Right, and thank you for letting us know. It's probably not a bad idea to turn the wackiness down a notch or two. But we will continue to be wacky!

I don't have much else to contribute, so thanks to you guys for humoring me.
@CarLaTeX Thanks also for linking to that meta question.
Btw I'm also not implying that this community is all bad because of one issue. Back when I participated, I recall that my contributions here usually were well-received, people voted a lot, helped each other, and so on. It's just that the total utility I got wasn't high enough for me to stay.

7:26 AM
@egreg @DavidCarlisle BTW: the memoir release for april 2018 was uploaded to CTAN yesterday, just in time for the tl18 freeze.

@hftf I am very sorry that you are leaving, I admit that we have exaggerated with the ducks lately. But like all fashions it will stop being on top, in a while. I hope to have you back by then!

@daleif Good!

8:06 AM
@DavidCarlisle I just saw the remark about BOM in the news. Imho since quite some years the binaries ignore BOM anyway.

8:47 AM
@UlrikeFischer There's no harm in also covering at the macro layer

9:00 AM
@UlrikeFischer no, Unicode engines ignore the bom but inputenc with (pdf)tex would give a "FEFF character not set up for latex" error so we added a \DeclareUnicodeCharacter {FEFF}
@JosephWright but first we need to fix for utf8x :(

@DavidCarlisle Sure
@DavidCarlisle Ask KB to delete the file from TL? ;)

@JosephWright well I was tempted to do that and add one to base that looked like \input{utf8.def} but no, not this time:-)

@DavidCarlisle :)

I was told before that if I have a texstudio issue, I should report it to texstudio. Well, I just did. And immediately someone closed the issue I posted there ! github.com/texstudio-org/texstudio/issues/99 and I have no idea why they did this. THis was related to question I posted here tex.stackexchange.com/questions/366717/… about texstudio not reading latest update from disk. So what is a user to do?
Anyone can suggest where else to ask about texstudio?

@Nasser the close message is (I assume) showing you the file menu option that you need, so your feature request was closed as the feature is already there.

9:18 AM
But that is the whole point. I do have this selected. They never give me a chance to say so. They never asked me if I have this set or not. They just closed it. I find this very rude. Even the message they posted is cryptic when they closed it. I will not use texstudio any more. I lost one hour of work because of it.
I understand also it is by default set so that TX will load the file from disk when it changes.

@JosephWright I need to properly wake up. I swear I read ham!

@Nasser I have never seen the editor but I assume it means you have to manually choose that menu option to refresh the editor from disk.
@Nasser I am not sure what you mean by having the menu option selected, it can't be selected all the time, it is a one-off action: input the file.

9:35 AM
@Nasser I don't use this program either, but the capability to automatically reload a file when it changes on disk is fairly uncommon among editors, I think. But the editor should, I think, notice when you are trying to edit or save a file which has changed on disk. It should warn you in that case. Adding such a feature is hardly rocket science, and should be an integral part of every editor.

9:56 AM
Why do people use example-image-a much more often than just example-image? I keep wondering about that.

@egreg regarding our discussion by mail the other day, guess two errors at the first page of the manual for aligned-overset that was just uploaded to CTAN. And people wonder about why I keep nagging about \text

@daleif I fully agree with you about \text

@U
@UlrikeFischer Thanks for you talk. Is it possible to get the slides? Do yo have any english / french version ?

@daleif And fully disagree about the necessity of setting “Def” above an equal sign: anybody reading carefully will distinguish when = is used for a definition. Whoever thinks that “def” is necessary, should start writing mathematics better.

10:14 AM
@DavidCarlisle Not on my system. This compiles fine (and I check with an hex editor that the BOM exists!)
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

\begin{document}
\input{test-BOM}
\end{document}

@egreg exactly, it is seen quite often in some disciplines along with just a d above the =. I'd better send an email

yo'
@daleif that's super-ugly

@UlrikeFischer miktex?

@yo' students often just emulate what they see their lecturers use. If they use this in a blackboard then they try to use that in LaTeX as well. It is one the the beefs I have with physics they they think it is fun to use \widehat and \widetilde as operators. Yes, fun until the operand is very wide.

Hi, one doubt about xparse: what are the main advantages of (or the disavantages of not) making d<> work only with single tokens as delimiters? For example, what would be the problem of enabling d{[<}{>]} as delimiters?

10:30 AM
@Manuel Largely it was not the original design spec, but checking for non-matching tokens would be 'interesting'

@DavidCarlisle and texlive. miktex was actually later, see e.g. tex.stackexchange.com/questions/183175/…

@Manuel For example, here we'd have to check for [ then <, then for the end find a > then check for a ] ...
@Manuel xparse is primarily meant as one interface design approach based on LaTeX2e, and there we have [ ... ] primarily
@Manuel We also have the question of what we want to encourage: as it is, there are some issues where we've provided approaches to interfaces that are seen but we don't really like

@JosephWright Hmmm... I don't mean that. I mean check [< together (that should not pose a problem, or if it does I'm interested in what happens). I mean that since in the end (unless I'm wrong) it's a \def\foo#1>{..} which checks for balance inside #1, it would be nice to have \def\foo#1>>{..} for instance which would leave the option for any delimiters.

@UlrikeFischer that's odd as Bruno raised the issue internally and I got an error when I tried something with the latest tl2018 binaries. I see @egreg noted at the time that the BOM wasn't removed on the Mac,is it just the windows texlive binaries perhaps?

@DavidCarlisle Possible that it still works only on windows, but it is rather useful ;-)

10:42 AM
@JosephWright By that you mean that it actually only works for matched tokens? I imagined that it would work for d~~ or d k j and that \foo k k asdf j asdf k asdf j sadf j would work.

@JosephWright g

@DavidCarlisle Yup
@Manuel But you get into what is the meaning: in your example, how do d{[}{]} and d{[<}{>]} relate? The first case is already an optional argument, so really one should be checking inside it for 'further structure' at the code level
@Manuel Exactly the kind of interfaces we don't want to encourage, and well out-of-scope for xparse

@UlrikeFischer well anyway the extra feature is more more or less cost free and possibly even useful if you use U+FEFF for its original no-break use: it just adds \DeclareUnicodeCharacter{FEFF}{\ifhmode\nobreak\fi}

@Manuel As I said, xparse is not meant to be a totally general 'parse stuff' module, rather an approach to providing an interface layer. The original team plan was that there would be several such modules, each providing a consistent interface but each different (e.g. one might have an XML one). Today, it seems more likely such parsing might be done in a script, outputting LaTeX2e-like input for xparse to handle.
@Manuel LaTeX2e syntax is in some ways independent of the format itself (see e.g. MathJax)

@JosephWright Yes, understood. So one would need to create a different package, but technically there are no limitations, right? I understand that you want to do it officially since you want to encourage good behaviour, but it's easy to program and with the same code of xparse, right? I thought more of d{begin}{end} for some sort of pseudocode for instance.

10:54 AM
@DavidCarlisle Any comments on the xparse point?

That way we could process \foo begin this begin that end and this end and automatically get certain “virtual grouping”.

@Manuel One could do it, but if you are going for keyword separation you'd likely provide a different set up, such that you can deal with multiple keywords on a letter-by-letter basis (see TikZ or some clever code from Petr Olsak)
@Manuel One could do that, of course

@JosephWright I hadn't read all the above, you mean xparse being aimed at 2e-style interfaces? Yes I agree

@DavidCarlisle Exactly
@DavidCarlisle @Manuel wonders about multi-token d-type delimiters

@JosephWright Ok, ok. No need for more. I understand that it's not intended to be inside xparse, but it's doable with the same code. And may be other code would be better suited.

11:00 AM
@Manuel one of the aims of xparse is to provided a declarative declaration of the signature so that syntax highlighters, context sensitive editor help, conversions to html etc do not need to read arbitrarily complex tex code to work out how many arguments a command has. The more powerful you make xparse, it isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it eats in to that core design aim.

@Manuel Exactly. I've wondered about a keyword parser for TikZ-like syntax, which would share very little with xparse. I think you want to start with an interface spec and see what does and doesn't 'carry over'.

@JosephWright How does TikZ work? With \futurelet?

@Manuel Yes, lots of \futurelet
@Manuel One can imagine setting up various generic mechanisms for this

It's been some time but I kind of feel the “weight” and the “work” of seeking characters as \futurelets rather than #1>> in a definition hehe

11:22 AM
@egreg nice, the author will upload a fixed version later on...

@MartinScharrer My guess: You look in /usr/local/texlive/2017/texmf-dist/tex/latex/mwe and move down the list until you find something generic-looking (i.e., not with a fixed resolution). The first hit is example-image-a. To find example-image, you have to go to the bottom of the list.

@MartinScharrer @HaraldHanche-Olsen When I need one of them (I always forget the names), I go to ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/mwe, and then the argument follow Haralds

11:50 AM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen , @daleif: I see. The manual lists example-image first, though.

@MartinScharrer Manual? You actually read the manual?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Well, I did once after I wrote it.

@MartinScharrer Ooh never read your own stuff. It's not good for your mental health.

@Nasser You can still comment on the issue though, can't you?

@DavidCarlisle As feature it is okay, I was only commenting the text: it sounded a bit as if BOM is a problem for everyone.
@DavidCarlisle I announced the latex-utf8 change and got the question when latex will set T1 as default font encoding ;-)

12:13 PM
@UlrikeFischer just everyone we care about:-)
@UlrikeFischer that is the logical question to ask. I suspect never is unfortunately the answer.

@DavidCarlisle Buuuuuuh

@UlrikeFischer changing the default input encoding does we know affect some documents but it doesn't affect any documents written since 1993 that have done the documented thing and declared the input encoding they use if it is not ascii. Changing the default font encoding is much harder to sell in any backward compatible way. Stuff just changes.

@DavidCarlisle I know (and so one who asked too), it was a subversive question ;-)

@UlrikeFischer no one complained when we changed the default for luatex and xetex from OT1 to TU, and if this change doesn't get too many complaints, that question is going to come up again, but currently I don't see a good path to get there. Incidentally were any concerns expressed about a utf-8 default?

12:36 PM
@DavidCarlisle No, as far as I can see everyone thought it is okay. I also made quite clear that you still can load latin1 etc, and that there is a command to disable the change.

@UlrikeFischer You sound like me ;)
@DavidCarlisle Well we have latexrelease ...

1:00 PM

1:13 PM
@DavidCarlisle Is there a switch from cm to lmodern in the kernel (for pdflatex)?

@UlrikeFischer no

@DavidCarlisle So the current speaker just said something wrong ... ;-) (I thought so).

@UlrikeFischer Not FMi is it?

@JosephWright No, Frank is not here ;-)

@UlrikeFischer, @DavidCarlisle Do the (u)pLaTeX formats build for you in TL'18?

1:21 PM
$ uplatex \\stop

No pages of output.
@JosephWright not a very extensive test ^^^^
@JosephWright do they not build for you?

@DavidCarlisle Hmm, something more serious up at my end ...

@JosephWright Seems ok for me.

@UlrikeFischer Must just be me then: dehypht-x-2017-03-31.tex has vanished

@JosephWright There is a question about dehyph on the main site but I hadn't the time to look yet.

@UlrikeFischer Ah, that does look like the same issue I'm seeing

1:33 PM
@JosephWright i hadn't updated tlmgr for a couple of days I'll try rebuilding formats in a bit
@JosephWright also the thread SVN dehyph-exptl update: outdated source file names on texlive list (which I didn't really follow at the time)

@daleif \eqdef in unicode-math

@JosephWright it isn't on ctan, there is only a 2018 version. Probably one need to update also the language definition files. I will check for miktex.

@JosephWright I just updated tl 2018 and the formats rebuilt?

@DavidCarlisle Must be me :(

2:01 PM
@JosephWright `\usepackage[ngerman=ngerman-x-2018-03-31]{hyphsubst}
` works fine, but the older 2017-03-31 is gone, perhaps you have some local language.dat/def which loads it.

@UlrikeFischer I'll try force-reinstalling hyphen-base

@JosephWright are we speaking about texlive oder miktex?

@UlrikeFischer TL

@JosephWright and what does kpsewhich --all language.dat say?

@UlrikeFischer Not much:
c:/texlive/2018/texmf-var/tex/generic/config/language.dat
c:/texlive/2018/texmf-dist/tex/generic/config/language.dat
c:/texlive/2018/texmf-dist/tex/lambda/config/language.dat

2:14 PM
@JosephWright same for me. What is the content for ngerman-latest in the texmf-var one?

% from dehyph-exptl:
german-x-2017-03-31 dehypht-x-2017-03-31.tex
=german-x-latest
ngerman-x-2017-03-31 dehyphn-x-2017-03-31.tex
=ngerman-x-latest
@UlrikeFischer ^^^

@JosephWright Well that's wrong. My language.dat there has been created Tue Apr 3 23:15:20 2018 and contains correctly
german-x-2018-03-31 dehypht-x-2018-03-31.tex
=german-x-latest
@JosephWright Is the original in texmf-dist also wrong?

@UlrikeFischer Nope, that one is right: odd
@UlrikeFischer I'll try forcing a regen (should have happened you'd imagine on forcing a reinstall of the data ...)

@JosephWright I wonder if something is wrong here. I would have expected that the one in texmf-var is recreated before one start fmtutil-sys but I just tried and the date didn't change. I will check what happens if I edit the original.

2:44 PM
@UlrikeFischer I've forced a rebuild of language.dat and language.def: issue seems to be solved. Phew!

@JosephWright I asked on the texlive list if it is normal that it doesn't happen automatically.

@UlrikeFischer ooooh

@PauloCereda Too many ‘o’s, that doesn't count.

@PauloCereda Two of them will travel to brazil and one intends to stay ;-)

3:08 PM
@UlrikeFischer OOOOOOH
@HaraldHanche-Olsen ooh

@PauloCereda It is not from me, I'm only the carrier.

@UlrikeFischer oh

@PauloCereda I got a present too. In the box there are small cardboard duck chess figures.

@UlrikeFischer ooh chess <3 How nice!

3:41 PM
@hftf Well, it is a bit unfortunate that you feel this way. But what do you suggest? Should there be a censorship? Or wouldn't it be better if you just ignored the ducks? (I am a vegetarian, and I do not like the fact that animals get killed, but nevertheless I would not find it appropriate if I was very vocal about this, or even demand that people no longer eat meat in public. And in this case some creatures do get hurt.)

@PauloCereda ^^^^ aren't they neat?

@DavidCarlisle, @egreg -- seems to me that the minus in tex.stackexchange.com/q/425125 (using empheq) isn't a uniary minus, but it should be. candidate for reporting to developer?

New LaTeX2e kernel sent to CTAN: headline feature is UTF-8 as input encoding

@UlrikeFischer WOW

@UlrikeFischer -- oh, they're delightful! i do like the little one popping up from the top of the castle.

4:28 PM
@JosephWright you announce the biggest latex change for a decade and get a WOW because @UlrikeFischer has a duck chess set. The world's gone mad:-)

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle Well formally the CTAN RSS will announce it ... which means Frank said it ;)

@barbarabeeton but I think that's same as with a standard align isn't it, the implicit {} added after & so that &=xxx gets a relation = means that &-xxx gets an infix binary - unless you use {-}

@DavidCarlisle -- just tried the same thing with cases and that automatically applies the unary spacing at the beginning.

@barbarabeeton yes but cases doesn't make &= a relation either

@DavidCarlisle -- hmmm. i'll have to check on that. (right now, i have to go to the dentist.)
@DavidCarlisle -- actually, it does make &= a relation, but i can't think that anyone would actually use that. that's not what & is for in cases.

4:54 PM
@JosephWright can you explain the tabularx log? I need to drive home, back in half an hour....

@DavidCarlisle I'll have a look

5:11 PM
@barbarabeeton I think so

5:29 PM
You guys don't want me to finish my thesis. :)

@JosephWright found it, it's git diff 659063dec 659063dec^ but I don't understand why that doesn't show in git log -- tabularx.dtx
@PauloCereda no point wanting the impossible

5:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle oh

@barbarabeeton I need a test case:-) as making - binary rather than unary is same as making = a relation rather than mathord you can't have one without the other (without having fragile special case tests for specific symbols)

@DavidCarlisle Rearrangements: git log --follow --oneline required\tools\tabularx.dtx

@JosephWright ah that works:-)

@DavidCarlisle Getting the SVN mapping right was tricky, so there are a few wrinkles around that time

@JosephWright so we blame You? that's OK then, order is restored:-)

6:06 PM
@DavidCarlisle Er, partly: if the SVN had had the standard trunk/branches/tags structure from day one ...

@JosephWright on day one it was a single branched RCS history, which morphed into cvs and then svn:-)

@DavidCarlisle Sure, but the SVN log doesn't go back that far, so everything was imported into a 'standard' SVN by (?) Rainer

@JosephWright Rainer I guess: to be honest the switch from the old svn to the "latex2e-public" svn was at a time when I was only partially keeping track, but I think the structure of the new one was identical to that of the old, which possibly wasn't a totally crazy plan

@DavidCarlisle Yes, that sounds about right (I have looked a bit at the older SVN)

7:06 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- test case on the way.

@barbarabeeton i was just replying:-)
@barbarabeeton hopefully amsmath with new amsldoc gone to ctan (but I have not see the confirmation message yet, but I think Frank uploaded it with rest of base and tools)

7:24 PM
@DavidCarlisle you're getting old :)

@Skillmon perhaps, but I'm still much younger than @egreg

@DavidCarlisle If you say so (I don't know either age)
Only 5 more days and I'll finally be fanatic. And there is no vacation planned, so I think I'm gonna make it :)

@Skillmon ooh a fanatic rabbit

7:39 PM
and proud of it

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@DavidCarlisle sounds delicious

8:01 PM
@marmot I feel like I've already addressed what you wrote ("What I never said was that people should or shouldn't be allowed to post jokes or have fun here.…") I'm not suggesting anything. There are good reasons for running the community organically, but also consequences. The same goes with censorship. The only reason I'm "vocal", which I already explained, is because you won't really hear the opinions of people who left this "echo chamber", where ducks get posted and upvoted all the time.
If you are implying that voicing my own reason for leaving the site is inappropriate here, then I'll be heading out (seems almost like censorship).

@hftf I certainly hope that's not the case

@hftf I do not think that I deserve such a strong message. The only point that I wanted to make is that I did not understand the point of your post. But now I think I know better, you're concerned about the voting behavior. Others have similar concerns, and @CarLaTeX recently initiated a discussion. IMHO opinion that would be a better place to express your feelings.

@hftf Hi I'm very sympathetic to your comments, but I would also join in encouraging you not to leave us on account of this. (And I don't think @marmot 's comments are to be construed as "if you don't like it, leave.".)
@hftf And I think that more than a few of us think that the duck stuff has got a little out of hand recently. (And say this as someone who has both contributed to it and voiced concerns about it.)

In other shocking news, a certain document seems to be progressing quite significantly lately.

we all need a break from time to time from cyber space...

@AlanMunn: you are not mean. :)

@AlanMunn :)

@AlanMunn Well, if @PauloCereda would have written on August 17 that the sun is shining and today that it's raining, there wouldn't be a contradiction either.

8:24 PM
@Skillmon ^^^^^^^ How's that for fanatism?

@marmot Yes, but @PauloCereda speaks a language in which such distinctions are encoded in the copula verb, and I'm assuming his Portuguese translation of this sentence is Tu és malvado not Tu estás malvado (although he doesn't actually use 'tu').

@egreg Oh, a cron job on a very stable computer ;-)

@egreg never a holiday?

@CarLaTeX Even when touring!

@egreg Ooooh

8:31 PM
@CarLaTeX those 600k don't come from nowhere :)

@Skillmon OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH

7 years?!

@CarLaTeX The cron job works even when @egreg is touring. So most likely he does not use a windows machine ;-)

@marmot That would leave huge gaps.

@egreg Why?

8:37 PM
@marmot The days when the screen is blue, if I used a windoze box

@egreg But you don't use windows, do you?

@marmot or a smartphone that stays connected when touring,

@marmot Do I? Each minute of every day. 😛

@marmot Don't talk about Windows machine, mine is stopping every time there is a system update, without any notice!

@marmot He uses a Mac like any sensible person would. ;)

8:39 PM
@AlanMunn Yes, cron jobs work on Macs.
@DavidCarlisle What would be the point of bringing the cell phone to, say, the Himalayas?

@marmot If they didn't how do you think my TeX.se chat-reply-bot would work so well?

@DavidCarlisle By the way, how did you like my search for blanks in ukraineb.ldf? It helped enjoying a travel on a slow train in the middle of Tuscan hills.

@marmot @egreg doesn't holiday in the Himalayas, you can't get Hawaiian pizza there.

@AlanMunn Yes, that's what I figured anyway.

@egreg i saw the email i didn't dare look at the file or post here:-)

8:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle Wrong. Unfortunately you can get it now even at the Anapurna basecamp.

@marmot There are 3G services from Nepal Telecom and Ncell. 3G service from Nepal Telecom is not so good but 3G from Ncell is better. The coverage depends on where you are trekking to. Everest region has 3G coverage from Ncell Nepal. Now, generally 2G service is almost fully covered by Nepal Telecom in Annapurna, Langtang and Everest regions. (from 7 years ago...)

@AlanMunn Dunno. when I was there, most time there was not even electricity in the remote places, and for sure no cell phone coverage....

@marmot I assumed you could anywhere with that many tourists would have some sort of coverage

@DavidCarlisle What's the point of making a trip to a place with many tourists?

@marmot I don't know but that's what happens. If no tourists toured to tourist sots then they wouldn't be tourist spots.

8:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle Yes, but then you do not really relax because of all the other tourist, who were asking so often for pineapple pizza that the locals finally gave in. That's why I tour to non-tourist spots, which comes with better food. ;-)

@marmot Hmm. That generalization (about food) depends on a very local definition of 'tourist spot'.

9:09 PM
good morning

@Christoph I guess you are not in the UK :-)

no, germany
but it's univeral greeting time (UGT)

@Christoph oh, it's not morning there either unless brexit has moved us further apart than I thought!
@Christoph ah

@Christoph good morning then!

9:13 PM
so I'm refreshing this diagram: tex.stackexchange.com/a/159402/4543 to use CoolProp for fluid properties, and extended A0 version
but an A0 version would have a lot of unused space (like several A4) pages in the top left and bottom right corner, which i could use for property tables and other information. However, the tables would obstruct the visual path from a plot in the diagram to the axis where one would read values
Which leads to the question if it makes sense to have a "step" in the x axis and how that could be done with tikz. meta-question: is that a good question for tex se?

@Christoph I guess a question on te main site with an example would be easier to understand:-) (not that I know much about tikz anyway)

9:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle I guess I'll just give it a try then and prepare some sketch for a question on the main site

1 hour later…
yo'
10:42 PM
@barbarabeeton Actually, there's 7 of them that contain a recording: music.tomh.eu/tag/mp3
