Fun little plaything
\documentclass[a4paper]{memoir}

\usetikzlibrary{babel}
\begin{document}

this just shows the importance of having multiple interfaces when dealing with something that might be active (" is active under danish)

10:57 AM
@PauloCereda
How to add YT here?

11:11 AM
@StefanKottwitz There is something wrong with Venus and Mercure.

11:26 AM
@AlexG YT? YouTube?

@TorbjørnT. Yes. @Paulo did this recently.

@AlexG I think just post the URL alone, as the only thing in a post.
Yes. The above contained only youtube.com/watch?v=yCqhdhOdS14

@TorbjørnT. Ah thanks, got it!
@PauloCereda

11:41 AM
@TorbjørnT. Oh, Snooker! <3

@AlexG ooh this is a classic!
@AlexG I love this song and know it by heart!
@AlexG: there's another song named O pato by Toquinho. This is a more comical version, it's about a clumsy duck:

@PauloCereda Lol. Really cute! Something from Brasil that doesn't sound Samba! Thank you!

12:02 PM
@AlexG Quite surprising, isn't it? :) It's a children's song. :)

12:16 PM
@PauloCereda Is Bossa too much for a child's soul?

@AlexG Not at all, we have some nice tunes around. :)

@PauloCereda Could you give an example? I am curious.

@AlexG let me check. :)
@AlexG Better, let me play one for you!

12:44 PM
@PauloCereda I cannot hear you, still looking for your violaõ?

@AlexG It's uploading. :)

1:06 PM
@PauloCereda Brasiiiil, la la la la la la la laaaa ... Tocaste tu mesmo??? Muito bom!!!

@AlexG Obrigado. :)

@Paulo Em caso nao terminares a tua tese, ja sei como podes ganhar a vida!

@AlexG Uh-oh. :)

@TorbjørnT. he came in China, played 147 and went home :)

2:50 PM
Breaking news: @samcarter is reported talking about the usage of ducks in scientific publications during DANTE 2018 in Passau!

3:40 PM
@PauloCereda Nice to know who is behind @samcarter .

@AlexG uh-oh, I think I shouldn't reveal that...

@PauloCereda should I delete my reply?

@AlexG I don't know! @JosephWright: help!

too late unfortunately :(

Given the existence and contents of her twitter account, I don't think she takes her anonymity here that seriously. And soon enough, this is going to be lost in past history anyhow. (Being truly anonymous on the 'net is incredibly hard.)

4:31 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen Oh the Twitter account is not hers.

@yo' -- i've heard it, but but it's not really familiar. the performance and arrangement are very nice indeed -- your playing?

yo'
@barbarabeeton you have found any recording? As I published only the sheets for this song. For the other songs on the website, yes, all arrangements and all recordings are mine.

5:00 PM
@yo' -- well, since i don't read czech, i just poked around and found something that promised to be an audio track, which it was, and which i liked. so i don't really know what it was, though the melody is something i've heard before. (or at least something very like it.)

yo'
5:11 PM
@barbarabeeton ok, well, I'm glad you liked it :-)

5:48 PM
@PauloCereda Don't worry! As I am only a virtual identity and not a real person, this was probably somebody else talking :)

@samcarter phew! <3

@AlexG I heard rumours that your duck ship made an appearance in this talk

@samcarter the talk which you know nothing, right?

@samcarter OH MEIN GOTT

5:52 PM
@PauloCereda Exactly this talk :) Moreover I am too busy hunting for new ideas. The above picture is from a shop down the road from my hotel

MUST GO TO GERMANY

Closing as heretic?

Q: latex math formula behavior weird with special font

beetlejI have a latex doc looks like below to use special font: \documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{fontspec} \setmainfont{Comic Sans MS} \usepackage{unicode-math} \setmathfont{Comic Sans MS} \begin{document} The square root of 100 is $\sqrt{100}=10$. \end{document} The formula sounds like we...

@PauloCereda Maybe also

@PauloCereda Many of your cousins are already there. You could make a big family reunion :)

@samcarter As I said, marmots are underrepresented. ;-)
@egreg It could be worse, like "How can I achieve an output as nice as the ones produced by Word with LaTeX?"

Q: Glenn, Conny, Rejne, Bjarne doesn't work for me

HiggsAttached figure is my preamble. Any one could please suggest me that why Glenn, Conny, Rejne, Bjarne doesn't work for me? \documentclass[paper=letter, fontsize=12pt]{book} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[english]{babel} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{subfigure} \usepackage{amsmath} \u...

@egreg ^^^ progress. :)

6:15 PM
I love those names in the fncychap package.

@AlanMunn LOL

yo'
7:01 PM
@mickep is it the only thing you love about it? :)

@yo' Honestly, I have not used it. I simply liked the currently not so popular (in Sweden) names used.

yo'
7:19 PM
@mickep well, my point is that I don't rate the package high, and I think I'm not alone in this :)
(@egreg ^^)

@yo' Hehe, I see. Since I never wrote any package myself I should probably not be too hard on others :)

@mickep I think the objections here are largely aesthetic.

@AlanMunn Well, I can agree on that.

yo'
@AlanMunn well, AFAIK they are not just aesthetic, but I haven't seen the code

@samcarter Oh, really? But I have to emphasize that the initial idea, duck on a sine wave, was @marmot's and the paper boat was yours. I just put everything together.

7:32 PM
@yo' I don't remember. Maybe there are other issues with the code itself. But it's not like classicthesis which actually loads packages which are incompatible with itself.

yo'
@AlanMunn :)

@yo' Of course this seems to indicate deeper problems:
Oh my god, the code in fncychap is cruel. — Johannes_B Sep 6 '14 at 13:39

@AlanMunn My preferred package after commath

yo'
@egreg and nath :)

7:52 PM
@AlanMunn Ooh, is this the reason why @PauloCereda has trouble finishing his thesis?

@marmot No, @PauloCereda has an even better aesthetic to follow: abntex. :)

2 hours later…
9:35 PM
@AlanMunn One of the best styles ever!

10:15 PM
@egreg I've been away but I'm surprised you haven't posted an answer of how to get comic sans math working

yo'
10:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle ticks are ticks. But this one may be infected with lame disease.

10:45 PM
@PauloCereda It doesn't matter what I think, but to be honest, a major reason why I stopped participating on this site is because I couldn't stand the childish duck meme and how much attention it always got. I knew I couldn't change anyone's behavior, so I left.

10:59 PM
I'm fine being a lone data point – you'll never collect enough data about the people who are bothered by it and leave, especially in comparison to the much louder voices of people it's popular with, anyway.

@hftf I can't say I like the ducks either but do you mean here in chat or on the main site? I'm surprised that they show up often enough on the main site to be really noticeable at all

Both, but I'm primarily talking about the main site, since I stopped coming to chat a few years ago. They often show up for me at the top of the "hot network questions" and "hot meta questions" and lists of that sort.

@hftf oh well yes "hot" whatever adds bias towards the sillier end of the spectrum, that's just the way it is, I pretty much only ever use the date ordered list so a question goes past and it's gone...

@DavidCarlisle Yes, it's like clickbait. And for some reason I fell for the bait and clicked it and then came back here for the first time in a while to share an unpopular opinion.
The last time I saw the "duck" topic on meta, I remember seeing a commenter who believed that posting memes is friendly/funny/brings together a "tight online community" that "does things differently" than the rest of StackExchange or whatever. I personally find it the exact opposite: off-putting and alienating, especially the favoritism (clearly off-topic questions staying open).

@hftf it's a rational opinion reasonably expressed so no harm done. You could have gone into full internet rant mode instead:-)

11:16 PM
It's part of a larger feeling that the things happening on TeX SX have become more irrelevant to my interests ("how to draw this?", ducks, "how do I typeset this joke character", etc.). I'm looking at the top monthly questions and can't find even a single one I'd click on (not saying that I want to get clickbaited).
SX is where I would go to find useful information and there's just less of it now per unit time.

@hftf topics come and go but looking at tex.stackexchange.com/questions?sort=newest there are very few ducks, and a pretty much the standard fare of every tex help forum for last 20 years, option clashes, longtable questions, weird CV layout requirements, and yes a few tikz drawing questions

11:54 PM
@hftf deeply sorry for driving you away. I occasionally made the duck joke (usually confined here), but it seems things became a bit out of control.

@PauloCereda we need more of this
