00:00 - 20:0020:00 - 00:00

8:00 PM
@ChristianHupfer The original version made the computers hibernate, but this was not very popular for some reason.

@ChristianHupfer oi

I posted a CW answer in case it comes up again.

@PauloCereda Just don't try to pick the highest (or lowest) number out of none!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen oh no

@marmot Which makes sense since marmots do hibernate ;-) I feel very sleepy right now as well...

8:04 PM
@ChristianHupfer I guess one could include a \hibernate command in the duckify package, what do you think?

@marmot \HibernationSyntaxOn....\HibernationSyntaxOff -- to make it look more weird. And everytime latex runs a file with this package, it makes the computer whistling ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I hope that by that time the weird \...On and \...Off will be history. No, what I meant is \if\user=\duck\hibernate.

@marmot Too much effort for just one single duck user then ...

@ChristianHupfer we ducks don't hibernate, we procrastinate. :)

@PauloCereda Yes, we know... ;-)

8:13 PM
@ChristianHupfer <3

@PauloCereda @ChristianHupfer No, the computer will hibernate if the user is a duck. This actually sets a real deadline to Paulo's thesis.

@PauloCereda That wasn't meant as flattering :-P
@marmot It would set the deadline immediately, wouldn't it? (given that @PauloCereda would use duckify)

@ChristianHupfer No, you said the package will take 20 years. The deadline is 20 years, then.

@marmot oh no

@marmot I meant 'immediately' at the moment @PauloCereda would use it ... in 20 years... and still not being finished.... ;-)

8:23 PM
@PauloCereda on texhax someone just pointed to the ctan credits (turn on sound) ctan.org/credits

@UlrikeFischer THIS IS AWESOME
@StephanLehmke OOOH STEPHAN IS HERE

@PauloCereda Hi Paulo. I'm really excited about TUG2018 at such a fabulous location, even though I won't make it...

@StephanLehmke You will be missed!
@StephanLehmke: did you see my lion? :) vimeo.com/243630927
@StephanLehmke We are planning lots of things, including a celebration Lua. It will be an awesome meeting. :)
@StephanLehmke: we will think of you! <3

@PauloCereda I saw the lion in your Meta post, but not the video, so far. Nice to see you "in person" :-)

@StephanLehmke You need to see me speaking German. :)

8:35 PM
@PauloCereda Just say a couple of verbs at the end, the rest is irrelevant.

Who took my TeXbook? I finally found the culprit! #TUG2018

@PauloCereda I hope to be able to come to a couple of events later this year (once I have the DocScape GitHub site set up). But it seems we lost the one chance to meet in person :-(

@StephanLehmke ^^ my lion. :)
@StephanLehmke I will try to attend a Dante meeting soon!
@egreg :)

@PauloCereda I received your invitation in German via Dante. Almost perfect!
@PauloCereda Then will meet for sure. Just tell me when.

@StephanLehmke Oh I don't know German at all, just some words and sentences to keep me alive. :) The text was translated by a good friend. :)
@StephanLehmke Sure thing!
@StephanLehmke and another friend helped me with Japanese: oku.edu.mie-u.ac.jp/tex/mod/forum/…

8:38 PM
@PauloCereda Well it's almost the same as English, so no problem.

@StephanLehmke I know important sentences like Ich bin ein Erpel and Ein bier, bitte! :)

@PauloCereda That's basically it. Just forget about the rest.

@StephanLehmke :)
@StephanLehmke: there's a chance of live broadcast. I will keep you informed!

@PauloCereda I got both, but the second address you tried is the more correct one.

@LoopSpace Cool!

8:50 PM
@PauloCereda After the first (and second, and …) beer, it will have to be Noch ein Bier, bitte!.
And not a single verb at the end!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I was thinking of unary addition. :)

@PauloCereda You can hold exponentially more beer in binary.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen ooh
@HaraldHanche-Olsen I could use an arbitrary base, so I will always get one beer. :)

@PauloCereda Have you ever tried a negative base? It works out, but it's really weird. There is no need for minus signs anymore. Numbers with an even number of digits will be negative, those with an odd number of digits are positive.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Really?!

8:55 PM
@PauloCereda Yep. Try it, it's fun. But finish your thesis first.

@PauloCereda You should go for Weissbier (wheat beer).

9:30 PM
@marmot -- i'll agree to that. (the only kind of beer i like. usually i prefer cider or sake.)

@PauloCereda That good friend of yours should have used that sentence too ;-)

@barbarabeeton Apart from wheat beer I really like honey liquor. Sake is also nice, especially when you drink it in Kyoto ;-)

@marmot -- oh, mead is good too, though not so easy to find. and i surely agree about kyoto! (especially in cherry blossom season.)

@barbarabeeton honey liquor and mead (which I also like) are two different things. mead is better described as honey wine, not liquor. Both of them can be found in the Alps.

9:46 PM
@JosephWright disappointing no aircraft in your last checkin!

@DavidCarlisle I'll probably add one of the ducks: we can certainly have an aircraft too!

9:59 PM
Am avoiding marking, so am playing with l3draw. @JosephWright:

@LoopSpace :)

@StephanLehmke BTW, there is a via Dante in every town in Italy :)

@LoopSpace Very experimental!
I've already fixed a few bugs

@JosephWright Ah, but you haven't seen the code yet!
\ExplSyntaxOn
\draw_begin:
\draw_svg:n { M37,17v15H14V17z M50,0H0v50h50z  }
\draw_path_use:n {stroke}
\draw_end:
\ExplSyntaxOff

10:03 PM
@LoopSpace Erm, where did SVG support come from?

@JosephWright Wow, it's been around for two minutes already, and you didn't even know it!
2

@StephanLehmke :)

10:18 PM
It looks like the marmots are running CTAN too.
2

@DavidCarlisle We cannot do without this

@LoopSpace I'm not sure you need the x-type variants for the drawing instructions: what you want to do is I think expandable inside an fp expr

@egreg another job for @egreg design services, perhaps
2

@DavidCarlisle I'm already thinking to a version of Comic Sans supporting random variations.

@JosephWright Thought it might be so, but was playing safe while getting something that worked.
@egreg Obligatory link to Caramdir's comment on tex.stackexchange.com/q/29402/86

10:28 PM
@LoopSpace Aiming for the equivalent of \pgfpathsvg?

@JosephWright More just playing around - I never used \pgfpathsvg so I don't know what it does. My original motivation was to produce a slightly more realistic aeroplane than @DavidCarlisle's but being too lazy to draw it, I thought I'd steal an SVG one from somewhere. But first I had to get my SVG into l3draw ...

@LoopSpace Ah
@LoopSpace I've not used the SVG stuff in pgf either, I'd just noticed some comments saying it exists

@egreg, as requested

10:43 PM
@JosephWright Q,q,C,c curves done, with chaining. You were right about the x-types (unsurprisingly)

@LoopSpace shocking.

@DavidCarlisle Which bit? The claim that your aeroplane doesn't pass FAA regulations? Or that I'm so lazy I'd rather write an SVG-parser than draw a picture myself?

@LoopSpace the first
@LoopSpace funnily enough I considered the easier job of writing a latex picture mode wrapper for l3draw to make the plane but i was too lazy so just dumped the l3draw commands directly:-)

@DavidCarlisle Shouldn't be too hard ...

@JosephWright well no compared to writing the base layer it's trivial, but still probably harder than drawing a dozen straight lines directly

10:55 PM
@JosephWright Yeah, there's only one picture that's ever been drawn in picture mode so all you need is a command \draw_aeroplane: and you're done.

@LoopSpace apart from a whole generation who used xfig exported to picture mode for all their diagrams

@DavidCarlisle First rule of TikZ-club: you do not talk about xfig.

11:14 PM
@LoopSpace I thought it was you don't talk about pstricks. :)

@AlanMunn That's the second rule

@LoopSpace :)

@AlanMunn Third rule is about xymatrix ...

11:35 PM
@LoopSpace Haha. There's a linguistics tree drawing package based on that.

11:46 PM
@AlanMunn There's an l3draw project for you to get your teeth into ...

@LoopSpace No thanks. I haven't managed to sink my teeth into l3 to begin with... and we tree drawers now have forest which is absolutely amazing.

@JosephWright What are the parameters to \draw_path_arc:nnn?
@JosephWright Never mind, experimentation figured it out
