@DavidCarlisle The template question was asked before and was answered. And i honestly don't know what to answer there.
Don't use templates?

@DavidCarlisle By the way, i voted to close for tex.stackexchange.com/questions/396155/…

Have you noticed a lot of crystal ball question this morning?

@Johannes_B thanks just wanted to check I hadn't totally misled the OP:-)

9:03 AM
Quack!

@PauloCereda Quack!

@JosephWright ooh another duck :)

@PauloCereda Think I'll try out Cuphead, then: I've been playing The Witcher series and am right at the end of the last one. The difficulty shoots up for the very last boss :(

@JosephWright Oh. :) I think Cuphead is an interesting game. I recommend a control remap though. :)

@PauloCereda Ack

9:14 AM
@JosephWright I think the Steam reviews for that game are fantastic. :)

@PauloCereda Cool: I'll sort it once I get back to my flat (and thus my gaming PC)

@JosephWright Is that an up quack, or a down quack? Or perhaps a strange quack?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Up quack
@HaraldHanche-Olsen Charmed quack ;)

@JosephWright Awesome. :)

@PauloCereda Probably laptop would run it too ... it did win 'laptop of the year' in the PC magazine I read :)

9:16 AM
@JosephWright Oh that's cool! Your new Dell machine?

@PauloCereda Laptop and gaming machine are both Dell (latter is Alienware brand): I have a Dell XPS 13" (2017) laptop
It is very good

@JosephWright I imagine so. :) XPS was always my dream, but it's very expensive.

@PauloCereda Cost me £1050 from John Lewis (well-know high street department store)
@PauloCereda Apple MacBook Pro would have been more even with the academic discount

@JosephWright MacBooks are definitely out of my league. A rough conversion tells me around £3500

@PauloCereda WOW!
@PauloCereda MacBook Pro starts at £1400, which I get 15% off as I work at a university

9:25 AM
@JosephWright Welcome to Brazil. :( Things are really expensive around here. And worst of all, we pay for obsolete hardware.
@JosephWright No discount for us, specially ducks. :)

@JosephWright Wow, surprisingly good! :) Trivia: Rio de Janeiro was once the capital of Brazil, and if you come to Brazil for TUG, you will probably enter the country through Rio Grande do Norte. :)

@PauloCereda :)
@PauloCereda Nephew loves these videos

@JosephWright how nice!

@PauloCereda Can get a bit repetitive after a while ...

9:40 AM
@JosephWright :D
@JosephWright: this is probably not suitable for kids:
:D

@PauloCereda There are a lot of these videos

10:04 AM
@JosephWright ^^ :)

@PauloCereda Do you know what a student of German once said? “I would rather decline two drinks than one German adjective” (Mark Twain)

@egreg LOL

10:35 AM
@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle @egreg Does anybody want to write an answer that package updates happen? latex.org/forum/…
There is a chance that a Poltergeist i messing with your LaTeX installation. Garlic or the excessive use of \newline does not help.

2 hours later…
12:32 PM
Back from the mass!

1:01 PM
Come to the Dark Side - we have waffles! #StarWars Death Star Waffle Maker: http://bit.ly/2vUn4ph
@ChristianHupfer ^^

@PauloCereda Nom nom nom

@JosephWright I never had waffles... :(

@Johannes_B Shooting a silver bullet to the computer doesn't help either

@egreg :-)

1:21 PM
@PauloCereda A bit of searching the ´net reveals that duck and waffle is a culinary thing. I could not find a single example of waffles with live ducks! So you'd better stay away from waffles, for your own health (mental and physical).

@HaraldHanche-Olsen oh no
@HaraldHanche-Olsen I think @DavidCarlisle will post something along those lines sooner or later. :)

@CarLaTeX wow

Trying out Gitkraken ...

@JosephWright oh

1:35 PM
@PauloCereda Reasons will become clear shortly: team list 'stuff'

@JosephWright ah

1:53 PM
@JosephWright Hadn't heard of it before. Looks interesting.

2:18 PM
@PauloCereda Want some ..... Where is the Tie - Fighter Waffle Maker then? I'll give you my address to which you can ship the Waffle Makers ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I will not buy this address, it's scratched. :)

@PauloCereda Naughty Duck

@ChristianHupfer oi

@PauloCereda <3 ... I just wanted to annoi you :-P

@ChristianHupfer ooh <3

2:31 PM
@PauloCereda What's the state of your ... .... ah, yes, thesis? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer it's... going :)

@PauloCereda ... away? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer somewhere. :)

@PauloCereda Ah, there ... at somewhere ;-)

3:15 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen Yes, looks good (though I'm happy with the CLI)

1 hour later…
4:30 PM
@DavidCarlisle with plan c code this would work too: tex.stackexchange.com/a/396327/2388.

4:57 PM
@JosephWright Me too. I am using magit more now, but always revert to CLI git when I don't know how to do something with magit.

2 hours later…
7:19 PM
@UlrikeFischer yes I'll try to get some code running (done nothing this weekend just got back from parents)

@DavidCarlisle Actually in this case \TextOrMath instead of \ifmmode seems to work fine.

@UlrikeFischer yes robust commands have a relax specifically so they work at start of table cells

7:37 PM
@DavidCarlisle Yes but it seems that is doesn't disturb the kerning either. So somehow the \relax disappears.

@UlrikeFischer oh lied that's why!

@DavidCarlisle lied??

@UlrikeFischer it must be @JosephWright's influence, it uses one of those new fangled \protected\def
@UlrikeFischer vvv
\expandafter\ifx\csname protected\endcsname\relax
\DeclareRobustCommand\TextOrMath{%
  \ifmmode  \expandafter\@secondoftwo
  \else     \expandafter\@firstoftwo  \fi}
\protected@edef\TextOrMath#1#2{\TextOrMath{#1}{#2}}
\else
\protected\expandafter\def\csname TextOrMath\space\endcsname{%
  \ifmmode  \expandafter\@secondoftwo
  \else     \expandafter\@firstoftwo  \fi}
\edef\TextOrMath#1#2{%
  \expandafter\noexpand\csname TextOrMath\space\endcsname
  {#1}{#2}}
\fi
@UlrikeFischer so no \relax

@DavidCarlisle Yes I had seen this. But what does "oh lied" mean? (I mean the english)

@UlrikeFischer it means I didn't tell the truth (although it is not that polite to call an accidental untruth a "lie" but no one is polite to me here:-)
@UlrikeFischer also of course my typing is rubbish,, I meant to type "Oh I lied" :-)

7:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle Aaah ;-)

8:13 PM
@DavidCarlisle It's all my fault?
@DavidCarlisle We could simplify that ;)

@JosephWright It may have been me: if you had done it you wouldn't have added the guard for classic tex:-)

@DavidCarlisle Sounds about right

@JosephWright As you are reading xcolor, you could try this file samplered.tex and compiling it with latex samplered && dvips samplered -o && ps2pdf samplered.ps
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xcolor}

\definecolor[named]{ACMRed}{cmyk}{0,0.90,0.86,0}

\begin{document}

\textcolor{ACMRed}{XYZ}

\end{document}

@UlrikeFischer (@JosephWright) my guess was right. look what svn blame says:
  1246     joseph \expandafter\ifx\csname protected\endcsname\relax

@egreg Oops
@egreg Remember I'm just picking up ideas [see Git/SVN ;)]

yo'
8:24 PM
@ChristianHupfer that word looks French, I almost here the froggy accent saying: "we ah-re hearre jyst tzoo annu-ah yu"

@JosephWright It seems ps2pdf (that is, Ghostscript) doesn't like how color specials related to CMYK are written to the .ps file by dvips.

@egreg Could well be
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{color}

\begin{document}

\textcolor[cmyk]{0,0.90,0.86,0}{XYZ}

\end{document}
@egreg ^^ is OK though

@JosephWright The ps file has
%%Page: 1 1
TeXDict begin 1 0 bop 0 TeXcolorgray Black 0 TeXcolorgray
XC@ACMRed 639 523 a Fa(XYZ)p 0 TeXcolorgray 0 TeXcolorgray
1926 5255 a(1)p 0 TeXcolorgray eop end
%%Trailer

@egreg Looks odd
@egreg Must be an xcolor issue somewhere I guess

@egreg @JosephWright I think the [named] type needs \usepackage[prologue]{xcolor} (but I never really understood what named exactly does).

8:38 PM
@UlrikeFischer Ah, yes: it creates an additional .pro file on-the-fly

in the original version at least you couldn't really define the names as they were just put into the ps file as literals assumed to be defined.

@yo' I know that it looks like a French word ;-)

@UlrikeFischer Interesting! I don't really know what's the idea of doing \definecolor[named]...

Today USA, tomorrow Brazil and Italy?

@DavidCarlisle :)

8:47 PM
@JosephWright they'd probably beat us:(

@DavidCarlisle Could well be

@egreg Actually the documentation explains it quite good (on page 18) and together with your example and @JosephWright's remark it now make sense. But I wonder if xcolor shouldn't catch the case that [named] is used without prologue.

@UlrikeFischer Possibly should

9:29 PM
@UlrikeFischer Possibly xcolor should do it, but at least adding prologue is not that hard. See github.com/borisveytsman/acmart/issues/257
@JosephWright My impression is that feature requests for xcolor are out of the question.

@egreg Could well be

2 hours later…
11:09 PM
@DavidCarlisle I am very kind to you. 🇬🇧
@DavidCarlisle Win: another triumph for Great Britain. / Lose: England loses again!
@JosephWright we can blame Frank any time. :)
