@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen why did you accept an answer if you still wanted answers, most of us don't look again at questions once they are marked as answered on the home page

@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen that would define SubentryB to have one argument but all the other variants of wipet's code that you have posted define it to have two. don't you want

\def\SubentryB##1##2{\SubentryS { ##1 ##2 \href{http://a.beautiful.url/?q=\percentifier{#1}}{test-link} } \futurelet\next\SubentryA}

but hard to guess really what you want, I can't see why you need nested definitions at all.

@DavidCarlisle I thought I need nested definitions because I have to reuse the argument of the previous command (that's why I made that previous command into an environment, and then I found out the second argument needs to be put inside that environment) ...

@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen as I just put in my answer to your last question, I think the document markup that you are aiming for with an arbitrary length list {a}{b}{... evaluated in pairs is simply wrong, you can do it but the code as you see is complicated and the resulting document will be confusing.

@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen yes but in most coding languages you can not change user-syntax on the fly, with latex you can but that does not mean it's a good idea. latex lists are , separated and {} are mandatory fixed arguments [] are optional arguments.

@mickep (and anyone else interested in the "short math guide") -- in section 4.9, boxed formulas, i have a method for boxing an entire equation including equation number; also, the faq referred to no longer exists. should i (1) include the instructions (no extra package), or (2) suggest looking into another package (such as framed), or (3) disrecommend it as bad style?

another "short math guide" question ... i'm having a real problem integrating hyperref. would it be preferable to (1) just get the content in good order and release a draft, or (2) wait to release until i've conquered the hyperref problems?

a couple more "short math guide" questions. in section 3.18, "math font switches:, most of the \math... font styles are shown in a table, but not \mathrm or \mathscr (which requires another font). should they be? and if so, what font should be used to show \mathscr (the two obvious candidates are euler and 'rsfs')?
