it doesn't seem to work

@cfr new kernel, new experience. :)

@PauloCereda Oooh

@JosephWright speaking of kernels, found this in my GitHub feed: github.com/apple/darwin-xnu

hey guys I really need a solution for this tex.stackexchange.com/questions/394021/… is there anything other than putting spaces or their equivalent in a text in which spaces don't belong

10:09 AM
@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen I just commented.

@UlrikeFischer Thanks a lot. That works. Only need to find out how to increase seperation between each character

Lazy Sunday, yay
We ducks like sundays. :)

@PauloCereda guess what we had for evening meal on Saturday

@DavidCarlisle you are mean
Today mum is preparing lasagna. :)

@VincentMiaEdieVerheyen yes, although I usually use \directlua{require('FILE')} with require and no extension rather than dofile, but it comes to the same thing.

@DavidCarlisle ooh a Lua expert

@PauloCereda Lasagne emiliane yummy!

10:41 AM
@CarLaTeX yay
@DavidCarlisle ^^

@PauloCereda You should add Carla,lasagne

@CarLaTeX ooh <3

10:57 AM
@CarLaTeX No you should change David to Carla, keeping gifts the same
@PauloCereda no expl3 list iteration, disgrace!

@DavidCarlisle :P

@DavidCarlisle This L3 thingy will never catch on. :)

Which package is currently recommended to get multiple bibliographies with the old BibTeX system? I want to update the wikibook.

11:36 AM
@JosephWright source code comments in first code block....

A: How to determine if a PDF page exists before including it?

jfbuI extracted method from package pdfpages source code, which itself gets it from graphicx/pdftex.def it seems. I initially looked at pdfpages doc but found no user level interface. Here is relevant documentation from its source code: % Unfortunately, |\pdflastximagepages| is not updated if |\...

12:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle Will take a look

12:56 PM
@DavidCarlisle It's the caching, but also I think that unless one does the image inclusion 'by hand' you can't expect primitive data to have any particular content

@JosephWright yes I assumed so, but I wonder what "the plan" was for pdftex.def to help out here I guess I'll look at pdfpages at some point..

@DavidCarlisle Hmm
@DavidCarlisle You will only get the right value if you know that a raw \pdfximage has preceded \pdflastximagepages, but one could I guess arrange to cache the latter somewhere predicatable

1:21 PM
@PauloCereda @barbarabeeton I want to rewrite the wikibook page about the natbib system from scratch. The part on biblatex is up for a while, though not linked on the wikibook, and there should imho not added too much. Please have a look at the text examples, do you have any ideas for BibTeX? I don't want to use the very same examples, on the other hand the direct comparison would be worth it.

1:48 PM
@DavidCarlisle Just need to do save the value of the total number of pages for each PDF included (if >1, I guess). I might add that to the expl3 version now so we don't forget.

1:58 PM
@JosephWright That would be useful. Actually I think it would be also useful to have an interface to retrieve the page count of non-included pdf's.

@UlrikeFischer You can I think only get the page count once you've included as an ximage or similar (doesn't have to show up, of course)
@UlrikeFischer One can look it up for XeTeX ...
@DavidCarlisle Working out how xcolor expressions work :)

@JosephWright Yes I know. There is a quite detailed answer about all the possibilities here tex.stackexchange.com/a/198117/2388. I only meant it would be useful if they were available directly with graphicx with an uniform interface.

2:15 PM
@UlrikeFischer I will add to expl3 later today (am looking after niece/nephew at the mo, so not ideal for working out interfaces)
@UlrikeFischer Of course, I still need to sort graphics inclusion for expl3: it and colour are my 'current interests'

@Johannes_B -- this may take me a while. just to make sure we're looking at the same thing: en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Bibliography_Management#Natbib -- is this what you're working on, and where might i look at the updates you're proposing? (of course, bibtex itselt desperately needed updating 15 years ago). i see that amsrefs isn't mentioned, but i'm not up for that.

@barbarabeeton What you linked is what needs to be updated (whole page) and what hopefully will be replaced by a complete version of en.wikibooks.org/wiki/User:Johannes_Bo/draft:Bibtex as part of the bigger picture en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/…
@barbarabeeton Bibliographymanagement gets an average of 1.5k clicks per day: tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/…

2:35 PM
@Johannes_B -- good for you, taking on such a big job. i'll try to think of ideas, and will be happy to cirtique/edit what you come up with. (as i think i mentioned some time ago, my few attempts to edit anything myself were shot down without comment, even though the information was accurate, trying to replace something that was outdated.)

@barbarabeeton This is quite normal. :-/

@Johannes_B -- sadly, a reason to not recommend the latex wikibook.

@barbarabeeton Do you know latex-tutorial.com? I think he just got his kowledge from the wikibook and repackaged it on a new place, including using [h!] for every float. To prevet something from this to happen, the wikibook needs updates. LianTze started writing about BibTeX, but for Overleaf: plus.google.com/u/0/+LianTzeLim/posts/h4eMcd6VmL3
Duplication i don't like.

@Johannes_B -- urk. i agree about the duplication. (the overleaf overview has an error in the \bibitem for the \TeX book' -- uppercase "B" and space in the middle: \TeX{} book`.) no time today for repairing things elsewhere -- have to finish writing my tugboat column and compile the calendar.

@barbarabeeton :-)

3:02 PM
@JosephWright What is the standard way for questions like that? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/394041/…

in a talk with a black background and white text, what color and background should lemmas have?

@Lembik whatever you like (why change colours for lemmas)?
