@yo' I'll do what I can

4 hours later…
8:20 AM
Has Clemens' successor package to exsheets been mentioned in here yet? See mychemistry.eu/2017/02/improving-exsheets

9:19 AM
@samcarter Thank you for editing: tex.stackexchange.com/a/356127/101651. I did a mess when I added the image!

@CarLaTeX You're welcome!

9:34 AM
@DavidCarlisle yep. :)

@DavidCarlisle Yes, he (or she but imho "he" is more probable) has really refined the art to ask questions.

9:56 AM
@UlrikeFischer did you see the deleted one?

10:20 AM
@DavidCarlisle No. But I quite like the "ignorant arrogant elitist attitude" -- very fitting if one looks in the right direction ;-). I didn't really looked at his code, but "wrong timing" was my first guess.

@UlrikeFischer wrong timing has been the issue from the start:-) Either not taking account of the fact that the output routine fires when it fires, or not taking account of the fact that aux files need to be read at begin document or.... Anyway I'm not answering the new one:-)

@DavidCarlisle On the miktex list there is another question connected to the dvips change of papersize handling. dvips -T 300pt,450pt no longer works if the document contains e.g. \special{papersize=500pt,600pt}. One needs the option -L0 too. I wonder if this is the intended behaviour. The documentation says that -T should "override any paper size special in the document". Can you test if this happens in TLdev too?

10:43 AM
@DavidCarlisle The one with a very polite comment?

Tea time!

11:02 AM
@UlrikeFischer OK will check later (I only have luatex dev builds not all the latest TL binaries, but in principle I can build, I have in the past)

@DavidCarlisle Imho this is too much trouble. It is quite probable that it happens there too. But were should one report a possible dvips bug? On the texlive list?

@UlrikeFischer yes

11:19 AM
@DavidCarlisle Message sent.

@UlrikeFischer Akira will love me:-)

@DavidCarlisle You are mean

@PauloCereda why is suggesting new features so @UlrikeFischer can complain about their implementation mean?

@DavidCarlisle I was just poking. <3

11:34 AM
@PauloCereda If I wanted to be mean I'd have mentioned crispy duck pancakes

@DavidCarlisle oh no
@DavidCarlisle: how does one get a specific directory with svn?

@PauloCereda cd somewhere; svn update ?

@DavidCarlisle I meant a partial checkout, if possible. :)

@PauloCereda svn co svn://there/some/path/to/wherever

@DavidCarlisle Tried it. :(

11:36 AM
@PauloCereda works for me!

@PauloCereda That's what I have for LaTeX2e, so 'doesn't work' isn't general :)
@PauloCereda Are you sure the path is correct on the server?

@PauloCereda see it even works for other ducks

@DavidCarlisle ouch, my bad. Wrong link.
@DavidCarlisle LOL
@JosephWright My bad, too much noise from the Carnaval...

@DavidCarlisle Quack quack
@PauloCereda Oh dear

@PauloCereda you should be out there celebrating, not stuck inside working on your thesis

11:37 AM
@PauloCereda We have 'Enrichment' week here for undergrads: they are meant to 'Do Something Different' :)

@DavidCarlisle No, I have a thesis to write... Surprisingly...
@JosephWright ooh :)

@PauloCereda you remembered?

@David, @Joseph: I have to commit stuff to Puszcza...
@DavidCarlisle :)
@David: remember the Unicode glyph/Markdown thingy? I have to commit a fix...

11:57 AM
@DavidCarlisle Exactly. :)

@DavidCarlisle: Yes, it was stupid -- I realized while driving in my car and thinking about the solution. But I could not correct it then. Now I removed the wrong solution and referred to \xdef or \g@addto@macro (as I have initially done in comments to the question)

@ChristianHupfer sadly removing your answer has the effect of gifting a tick to the undeserving but it has to be I suppose.

@DavidCarlisle Well, I was wrong, so we have to live with this ;-)
@DavidCarlisle: But the 'trick' is correct, I think, but it should not used before \begin{document}, if used inside another group, there should be no harm

@ChristianHupfer but the OP had no intention of putting \endgroup in the redefined macro.

@DavidCarlisle No, that was my 'invention' (or error)

12:07 PM
@ChristianHupfer no the Op did exactly that, he just didn't intend to do that:-)

@DavidCarlisle apparently, I have misunderstood you...

@ChristianHupfer the question starts with:
\def\abc{abc}
\begingroup\let\orgabc\abc\def\abc{\orgabc\endgroup def}
You added some \expandafter to expand \orgabc which were fine but the \endgroup should never have been there

Interesting discovery in Word: 'Keep paragraph with next' fails if the next paragraph has widow/orphan control and a 'cutout' figure at the top ...
(Context: writing a grant proposal)

@DavidCarlisle Yes, I know now ... I was confused, I had a different version (non - working) in between on disk, but posted the other one. I focused on the wrong purpose

I like report bug in TikZ, but I don't know, how to this. For report encourage me Torbjørn T. in comments to my question tex.stackexchange.com/questions/301129/…. I look sourceforge.net/p/pgf/bugs/?source=navbar, but not find a way how to add my report. I guess that I need create new ticked, but key "+ Create Ticked" claim that I need to be authorized for this. CAn some one help me in this? This will be my firsat report ...

12:40 PM
@Zarko You probably have to login first, in order to creat a new ticket.

where to do this?

@Zarko there is a "login or join" link at the top right if you are not logged in.

12:53 PM
@DavidCarlisle, I found this. Now I wait to receive pasword to login.
@DavidCarlisle, I forgot my username and password ... so I ask for new and this seems will take some time.

@Zarko sourceforge used to be a nice code site but in recent years it's slow buggy and full of adverts and is driving people to github:-)

@DavidCarlisle, I notice this. I was lost in this advertisement. I newer visit github. As I understand Torbjørn, the bug report is possible only "Sourceforge".

Can I define newcommands in document content (between \begin{document} and \end{document}) or is there some clever way around it (such as having a command that writes the new command to file and load it in the next run with latex?)

@Zarko oh yes it is, but many projects have moved off sourceforge because of the adverts. tikz (and xetex) are still there though.
@Ahlqvist you can do both of those things

@Ahlqvist Both, most likely you will write it to the .aux file, perhaps?

1:08 PM
I am writing a python program that generates latex content using templates that can be redefined. I want to keep both the text in the templates and new commands (specific enviroments et c.) in the same files for easier maintability.
but using the aux file is probably a good idea

@Ahlqvist As long as your macros do not try to typeset something the .aux file is a good place, but it depends on the precise features you want to have.

Q: How to bold figures in Latex?

Tommt_tsaAfter sending my file to printer, I notice that some figures are very weak in print. Is there any way to make them bold ? I see that \boldmath do work on equations. Is there any othere way to change figures to bold one as equations ? Thanks, Tommy

We need a \boldfloat or at least a \boldfigure command ;-)

1:27 PM
@TorbjørnT.: I haven't finished editing that post about the reference :-(

@ChristianHupfer Oops, sorry.

@TorbjørnT. I forgive you .. this time ;-)

@DavidCarlisle, @TorbjørnT., on SourceForge I receive notice, that they will me send forgotten username and password in one working day. So, for now I need just wait :-). Thanks to bot for instruction and encouragement. By

1 hour later…
2:38 PM
Does anybody have the same problem? Images are not always loaded from Imgur.

@egreg Yes, noticed twice today and at least once yesterday. However, if you edit the post, they suddenly appear after saving the edit

@ChristianHupfer Also without really editing.

@egreg Well, I didn't test a 'fake' edit ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I just tried on Meta.stackexchange: click edit, cancel edit. Et voilà.

@egreg Interesting... Well, anyway, it seems to be a bug for the whole system of sites then and is not restricted to TeX.SE...

2:44 PM
@ChristianHupfer Yes, I suspect some issues at Imgur: this morning it didn't accept an image for an answer of mine.

@egreg Well, I have uploaded only one image today to imgur yet. There was no issue, however.
@egreg: Did you raise the issue on Meta.SE then, in addition to the abandoned edit ?

@ChristianHupfer Probably it's just a temporary issue. I just wanted to know whether it was me and my network link.

@egreg Yes, perhaps... I have just looked into Meta.SE for questions from the last 24 hours, there's nothing mentioned

3:18 PM
@egreg I'm at a colleague's desk today...

@CarLaTeX You wanted to bear attention to the bird, I'm sure.

@egreg Hahaha, unfortunately, it's not a duck!

@CarLaTeX By the way, the only football reference in my office is the Palmeiras scarf.

@egreg I'll send you a duck with a juve scarf!

@CarLaTeX :)
@CarLaTeX This is the day after Palmeiras won the Brasileirão

3:33 PM
@egreg @PauloCereda will have been happy of that!

@CarLaTeX And this is two days later

@egreg Your students seem puzzled...

@CarLaTeX They know I'm a peculiar guy. ;-)

@egreg but they appreciate you the same!

1 hour later…
5:04 PM
Can somebody with an up to date system test this fontspec related question, please? latex-community.org/forum/…

@Johannes_B I get an italic title. That's what the O.P. requests but apparently does not achieve?

@Johannes_B I get an italic title.
\bibitem[{Surname(Year)}]{test}
Surname, Firstname. Year.
\newblock {\em A title that should be italics\/}.
\newblock Address: Publisher.
@Johannes_B Probably the OP is loading some font that lacks italics.

@Johannes_B Sounds like the fontspec bug which disabled emph for a while.

5:23 PM
ooh I see the excellent re-implementation of * in array wins over the one in the format:-) All those people wanting to specify no columns will be happy.

@UlrikeFischer So, an update is in need?

@Johannes_B What else?

@UlrikeFischer :-)

@Johannes_B On your system? Definitely :-P

@UlrikeFischer @egreg @ChristianHupfer Thanks for having a look.

6:27 PM
@egreg Oh dear

@JosephWright Let's hope they solve the issue.

@egreg Seems to be the cause of the issue we noticed

@egreg Problem is upstream: Amazon S3

@JosephWright ?

@egreg Imgur uses S3 and S3 has an issue

6:37 PM
@JosephWright Yes, I saw Nick Craver's post.

I just try t upload image of table to my answer (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/309383/…) . In this attempt I filed. I receive warning: "Failed to upload image; imgur is rejecting the request". I try again several time, but never succeed. Is this happen because question is (one year) old? Do anyone have similar experience today? Few hour ago all working normal.

ah, it not working now ...
as response I receive "HTTP ERROR 503"

@Zarko meaning Service unavailable...

6:52 PM
@ChristianHupfer, yes, I understand this. Well, we should wait that they resolve their problems :)

@Zarko Yes, there's not much we can do ... well, we can do nothing, actually ;-)

@ChristianHupfer, thank you for information. By

2 hours later…
8:33 PM
@Johannes_B, @ChristianHupfer, Hi, I have changed my request at least I think so twenty times. Why is it now closed?

@Sebastiano it required 5 votes to re-open in (I just did the last) but you shouldn't expect it is necessarily re-opened immediately not everyone looks at old questions to see if they have been edited.

9:01 PM
@Sebastiano It's been closed for days actually ... and I still think it is too broad

@Sebastiano if you want to try the mathtime fonts you can get the free subset and try those instead of newtxmath but I'm not fetching fonts that are not in texlive just for this. But why does it matter too much, if you have a times roman clone text font and a coherent matching math font, isn't that enough?

I'm probably an idiot, but I don't quite understand any of your questions. Can you try explaining more thoroughly exactly what you want to do? — Torbjørn T. 5 hours ago
@TorbjørnT. I am pretty sure that it is the quality of the questions

9:38 PM
How often any of you get random downvotes on otherwise good answers (with no competing answers)? I can't remember getting any but in the past two days I've received two. It's quite odd.

@AlanMunn I got a few in the last two days.

@AlanMunn I've had 10 downvotes for this one, I can't see why at all. tex.stackexchange.com/a/85277/1090

@AlanMunn This one, for instance: tex.stackexchange.com/a/355764/4427

9:55 PM
@AlanMunn: Mico reported of two downvotes yesterdays...

10:06 PM
So maybe someone is kind of trolling in a way, but not enough to be caught.
@DavidCarlisle :) Yeah, not the kind of answer I had in mind.

10:26 PM
@egreg let's play a game: one with shortest \tracingall log wins.

@DavidCarlisle Now do the extension.

@ChristianHupfer thank you for the in depth comparative review of the posted answers

@DavidCarlisle Sorry, I concentrated on something different ... corrected now ;-)

10:42 PM
@egreg vv

@DavidCarlisle Petr would be proud of you

@egreg as is everyone, I'm sure.
@egreg, don't worry if you don't understand the code above, we provide expl3 to make it easy for you to code such things without having to know the tex details.
@egreg and the winner is .....

11:16 PM
@DavidCarlisle Let's wait when the OP will say to have understood your code. :P

@egreg I think this bit is particularly clear: #1@{}c@{}}{#2&)(}

@DavidCarlisle Indeed!
