7:25 AM
On the Park and Ride going into Oxford

@JosephWright All of you, have fun at the user meeting.

@JosephWright you have mail:-)

@DavidCarlisle Sorted, but that must be from an earlier change ...

Can somebody tell me what to do in such situations? latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=96750#p96750

7:49 AM
@DavidCarlisle Found the first place that \protected will be used :) (\TextOrMath): if we make \DeclareRobustCommand use e-TeX of course that can be simplified

8:17 AM
On the bus
@JosephWright not safe I suspect

9:07 AM
People collecting up

@JosephWright There are so many packages that rely on the current implementation of \DeclareRobustCommand, unfortunately

@egreg Yes, @DavidCarlisle and I have just had exactly that conversation
@egreg I was thinking about the internal \foo<space> macro that really cannot be safety expanded
@egreg \edef\l@ngrel@x{\l@ngrel@x\protected}

@JosephWright That could be interesting

@egreg Yes, not sure it's safe, but will explore options: I'm thinking of 'just before \futurelet'

10:06 AM
@barbarabeeton Thank you! <3

yo'
10:29 AM
@egreg got 90 math.se rep very quickly, simply for answering the questions that should have been asked. Feels great :-)

@yo' :) One from me

yo'
@egreg oh rly? :-)
I wonder which one it was...

Impressive talk from @StefanKottwitz

10:47 AM
@JosephWright Cool! Are you recording?

@PauloCereda Yes, I've got sound for @StefanKottwitz. I'm going to have to re-record my own talk (messed up pressing a button)

@JosephWright Oh no!
@Joseph: in other news, if you feel like allocating me in an earlier timeframe, feel free. :)
I am already ready. :)

@PauloCereda OK

11:24 AM
Oh boy, I am nervous. :)

2 hours later…
1:42 PM
Quack!

@PauloCereda Hello

@JosephWright How's the meeting?

@PauloCereda Good so far

@JosephWright Yay!

1:57 PM
@PauloCereda we had Pizza for lunch, horror no pineapple

@DavidCarlisle oh no!

yo'
@DavidCarlisle trying to please @egreg ?

@David: which side did you pick in the chocolate thingy? :)

@DavidCarlisle Everybody knows that real pizza should have onions, tuna and pineapple!
3

2:22 PM
@egreg -- no anchovies?

1 hour later…
3:30 PM
@barbarabeeton Only if you also add coconut.

4:22 PM
Meeting over, time to write up all the things
@StefanKottwitz Really excellent talk today
@StefanKottwitz I'll try to merge the sound and slides to make a video
Ah, @DavidCarlisle

@JosephWright hello, I got home:-)

4:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle Looks almost like a pizza

@egreg underfull one, don't mind too much but probably it would have been good to have a specific question about that message rather than the general underfull h or v box one.

@DavidCarlisle I saw that the \\ problem was explicitly mentioned also in the other answers. Probably it's also somewhere else, better not scattering information.

@egreg yes perhaps.

3 hours later…
7:26 PM
     \def\newlanguage  {\e@alloc\language \chardef{\count19}\m@ne\@cclvi}
Incidentally, LuaTEX allows 16383 separate languages,
@JosephWright ^^^^^ spot the error!
@StefanKottwitz nice talk, thanks

@DavidCarlisle What did I get wrong now?

@JosephWright me actually

@DavidCarlisle Ah, phew
@Canageek You got referenced in my talk :)

@DavidCarlisle @JosephWright Thank you! It's fun to speak about work with TeX friends!

@JosephWright not sure if it has changed but 16383 in roman numerals isn't cclvi

7:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ah, of course

@JosephWright I feel an @e@alloc@language@top coming on...

7:54 PM
@DavidCarlisle I guess, though practically not that useful ...

8:06 PM
@JosephWright I was looking as I was having a thought that could double the language use (and if we loaded the t1 patterns that would be more as well....)

@DavidCarlisle Ah, right

yo'
@DavidCarlisle \mathchardef\@mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmccclxxxiii="3FFF?

@yo' \e@alloc@top

yo'
@DavidCarlisle that's cheating on the cs names :-)

$ latex '\makeatletter\show\e@alloc@top'
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.17 (TeX Live 2016) (preloaded format=latex)
 restricted \write18 enabled.
entering extended mode
LaTeX2e <2016/03/31> patch level 3
Babel <3.9r> and hyphenation patterns for 83 language(s) loaded.
> \e@alloc@top=\mathchar"7FFF.
or rather
$ lualatex '\makeatletter\show\e@alloc@top'
This is LuaTeX, Version 1.0.0 (TeX Live 2017/dev)
 restricted system commands enabled.
LaTeX2e <2016/03/31> patch level 3
Babel <3.9r> and hyphenation patterns for 1 language(s) loaded.
> \e@alloc@top=\char"FFFF.
hmm OK it's half that grr why can't they make all the registers have the same range

yo'
8:18 PM
@DavidCarlisle well, I've always wondered why int means so many different things on different computers. I start to understand...

This is LuaTeX, Version 1.0.1 (TeX Live 2016/W32TeX)
@DavidCarlisle ^^^^

anybody... how can you tell the top language without looking at the sources of *tex-the-program?
\setbox0\vbox{a \language30000000 b} \showbox0
^^^ isn't an error even in classic tex
ah use setlanguage and see what language node gets set...
` \setbox0\vbox{a \setlanguage30000000 b} \showbox0`
makes
..\tenrm a
..\glue 3.33333 plus 1.66666 minus 1.11111
..\setlanguage0 (hyphenmin 2,3)
..\tenrm b
@JosephWright I guess I need to build again, any new primitives?

@DavidCarlisle That's the one I used to update expl3

Updated to revision 6159.
here we go....

8:37 PM
Lots of post-AGM actions are marked 'JAW'!

@JosephWright sounds perfectly reasonable to me
This is LuaTeX, Version 1.0.1 (TeX Live 2017/dev)
@JosephWright ^^

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle, @StefanKottwitz Wondering whether to make a video from Stefan's talk or just post the audio and slides (rather a lot of slides for me to run in 'by hand')

just remaking all the luatex formats just in case..

9:01 PM
@JosephWright We want the video :-)

@Johannes_B Yes, but it's quite a lot of work (I have to take the audio and work out where each of the slides goes ...)

@JosephWright So there is no video of Stefan talking? Then the audio would be enough, i guess.

@Johannes_B I don't have the hardware to capture someone else's screen, so I have to combine audio with static slides

9:26 PM
@JosephWright Ok. Just wondering if there is a video/photography club at the university which can help out with stuff like that.

@Johannes_B Kaveh has the tech but he's been busy. I could sort it out, I guess: it's just a question of whether we want to spend the money. Normally it's easier just to present from one machine ...
