@yo' i like the blue color! btw - only thing i noticed - first time hover causes a kind of "white blinking" but you can get rid of it by using img sprites stackoverflow.com/questions/13286745/…

@pogo-otter i know i can, but i won't i think. I've got some other plans in mind; the simplest is image preloading, or i could use alpha like for the social icons, that would mean one image per button and problem solved....
Btw, chrome is not subpixel-precise, which really sucks...
@yo' I am not sure if alpha would not cause the same problem? (after all the social icons are smaller so they might just not cause the same problem yet. but .. oh well.. gotta try to know.) the minimalistic social icons are nice, though. and properly displayed in firefox. Would it work, to remove the black background of the icons?
@pogo-otter it would of course, that's one of the problems. For the icons: they use two "colours": black and transparent, and they are on white/gray background!
(that's how I made the hover effect in the first place...)

@pogo-otter I've used it as my default browser for years. Mostly it's perfectly fine (it restarts and restores all your tabs rather a lot of course) but every now and then they do something which really breaks it and you have to give up and use chrome or IE or something for a bit
@pogo-otter well I claim it's part of the day job (checking mathml, of which I'm the editor) works well in bleeding edge releases, and also that our product documentation a few thousand math-heavy pages also works in browsers that people will have next year, not just ones they have now.

@yo' I think not as well. It seems strange that a question that is not about Latex can be accepted. It's like accepting questions about Photoshop just because you can theoretically include .png files in your Latex document.

Sometimes asking questions on the ConTeXt mailing list results in no answer. Do you guys have any suggestion on how long time I should wait before asking here (of course mentioning the cross posting)? As of now it has gone several days (and in some case weeks) since I tried the list. In fact, it might be better to start at TeX.SE, and to turn to the mailing list if there are no answers... Any opinions?
I think the following question is more a pure python question. Should it be moved to a special python page (I do not know python and if there is a page for it here)?
I am writing python to parse and process lots n lots of files to build a final report of results from information in the files. I am using python to write the latex file, then converting the latex file to pdf. In my example, you will see how I have to escape a backslash to produce the latex file ...

@wilx It's called 'letterspacing' and both the soul package and microtype can do it. I think also it can be done with fontspec if you are using XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX.
@JosephWright (@yo') ah that's because Hans has changed the discretionary logging as he mentioned in the second luatex list thread, so anything with a discretionary has a changed log. Probably too trired to go through them all now and see which are real changes
@JosephWright a quick filter of the diffs with grep suggests that every diff chunk involves a discretionary, so all relate to the different logging or (possibly intentional) different hyphenation. only exception to that: one supercalifragilistic box no longer overfull in tlb0435, a word followed intermediately by \hbox seems to hyphenate? perhaps intentional, will look again tomorrow.
