I noticed that we always tell poster to provide a MWE. But many folks who answer, actually just give one or 2 lines answer, even the experts, and do not show a MWE in the answer, and not show the output (where appropriate). Should not the answer also be self contained just like the question? Many times I have hard time with these answers and how to use them since they are just small fragment and missing much code.

Q: amsbook customization of toc, section alignments and running heads

I am working with \documentclass[12pt,twoside,openright]{amsbook} and I wish: titles of Chapters centered in the page titles of Sections left aligned (for instance: 3. Third Section) In the contents, the full titles of the Sections and, since such titles are sometimes long, the running heads...

@egreg or someone else familiar with amsbook ^^^^^. i've left a comment on this how it's best done, but i can't do anything about it until i get back to the office in august, so someone else please give this person a workable answer.

@ChristianHupfer there are people here with some years more experience than me, I've only been using latex since 1987.

@DominicMichaelis the regex syntax is easy enough once you get used to it, the hard part is deciding what exactly is the rule you need to distinguish the numbers to be wrapped in \Si from other numbers such as dates etc (or you use a simpler regex that does not distinguish and use an editor that lets you say yes/no in each case, rather than sed or perl just changing all the files in one go)

@DominicMichaelis ok syntax varies from system to system but basically you want to replace ([0-9.]+) *cm by \\Si{\1}{cm} that is match a run or digits and decimal pint followed by any amount of space followed by cm by \Si with the contents of the first () group in the first argument. some regex systems use \1 some use $1 to refer to the () groups. I don't know winedt but ideas are always the same

@DominicMichaelis if getting brave you could replace cm in the match by (cm|m|Kg) or whatever and replace cm in the replace by \2 so it does all units at once, but I'd do them one at a time, as a check:-)

@DominicMichaelis but that's cheating:-) in that you choose to write the matrices that way (rather than transpose) so left multiplication works, but for general function application you don't have that luxury. When I did algebra as 1st year undergrad the professor made a point of always writing functions on the right (partly to get rid of half the students before Christmas I think:-)

Q: Beamer interaction remove footline

Can anyone explain why the MWE below is bad? When I compile it, there is no footline on the first page!?! I use the <+> and <+-> in order to not having to explicitly having to specify the various overlays. \documentclass{beamer} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage{fix-cm} \usetheme{Copenhagen}...
