Will a bounty be an adequate incentive for this question?

http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/228282/table-apa6-class-rotating-with-caption-and-table-notes

1:16 AM
@barbarabeeton you may be used to that, I never have overfull boxes, so I don't see it often:-)
@Jens bounties don't make so much difference to the regulars but anyway I just put an answer, not sure if that's what you wanted?

1:50 AM
@DavidCarlisle -- it's okay. we know you never have to deal with the great unwashed population of authors submitting stuff to math journals. anyhow, you got my +1, even if you don't know how to spell "mechansm". (knowledge gap, not a typo, since you never make those.)

@DavidCarlisle I tried so many possibilities without success... still on a learning path...
@DavidCarlisle thanks a lot, this is awesome... your solution is quick and effective

@SamWhited -- sadly, not visible to us "unwashed" emacs users.
@SamWhited -- well, i have as my excuse that i never would have learned tex if i hadn't learned emacs first. that's all that was available on sail (the stanford ai lab machine on which tex was first developed.)

2:26 AM
@SamWhited -- a lot depends on what you consider ancient. to me, an ibm 650 is venerable, but not yet ancient. a marchant calculator is ancient.

7 hours later…
9:45 AM
@egreg: Hi! How are you feeling today?

Good maen

@PauloCereda: Das Brasiliano :-P

Et tu, Brute? ^^ :)
@ChristianHupfer LOL
People from Brasilia is brasiliense. :)

10:06 AM
@PauloCereda ohai!

@Rico 'allo! :) Long time no see ya, buddy!
The Labrador duck (Camptorhynchus labradorius) is an extinct North American bird. The Labrador Duck has the dubious distinction of being the first species among endemic North American birds to go extinct. It was already a rare duck before European settlers arrived and became extinct shortly after. As a result of its rarity, there is not an abundance of information on the Labrador Duck but there is some such as its habitat, characteristics, dietary habits, and reasons behind extinction. According to the Naturalis Museum there are 54 specimens of the Labrador Duck preserved in museum collections...
extinct North American bird :(

@PauloCereda sad but true, was very busy

If a labrador is a dog that catches ducks, is a labrador duck a duck that catches dogs?
@Rico :)
@Christian, @yo': Schnappi in Czech! ^^

@PauloCereda: That's mean :-(

@ChristianHupfer <3

10:15 AM
@PauloCereda Well, I'm doing an exam, so not very well. ;-)

@egreg Oh. :)
We have a song to drive people mad: we start with 1 elephant bothers a lot of people, 2 elephants bother, bother a lot more! Then the pattern becomes n elephants bother a lot of people, n+1 elephants ((n+1) * bother) a lot more! (n = n+ 1). :)

@PauloCereda: Something like 99 bottles of beer? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Close, but way more annoying. :)

Tre elefanti… /ad libitum/

@PauloCereda: Brazil seems to be a strange, strange, strange,..... , strange country ;-)

10:22 AM
@egreg ooooooooooh! <3
@egreg This will be an epigraph in my thesis. :)

@PauloCereda Very entertaining when you have six children in a car for a long trip. ;-)

@egreg LOL

@PauloCereda: Hopefully not your epitaph ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I expect something along the lines of Here lies Paulo, quiet at last!. :)

@PauloCereda: May I star that line :-P
@PauloCereda: Promised we do that, in Comic Sans :-P

10:26 AM
@ChristianHupfer follow your heart. :)
@ChristianHupfer All caps, slanted and bold, with keming. Got it. :)

@ChristianHupfer Hightech graves with spell checkers. :p

10:44 AM
@PauloCereda LOL

@PauloCereda: Complaining, even beyond death ;-)

@ChristianHupfer ^^ :)

@PauloCereda: Das böse Cricketente :D

@ChristianHupfer LOL I'm worried that I'll make you lose your German with my Das obsession. :)

So a user emailed me with a bug report for empheq. I could not repeat the error and asked for version numbers. Turned out he was using LaTeX files from '04/05. Huh?! Are there still people out there that are so far behind?

10:59 AM
@PauloCereda: Just to annoy you ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Phew. :)

@PauloCereda: Just lost +2 rep... no downvote... perhaps a deleted edit I've done about a year ago.. I am in line with rep dividable by 5 again :D

@daleif: Hi Lars! Would you mind if I ask you a TeX-related question? Blame Andrew Swann in the floor above. :)

@ChristianHupfer The universe is in balance again. :)

11:06 AM
@PauloCereda: Yes, for god's sake ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Wait, what happened to ö in Comic Sans? No glyph! Boo!

@PauloCereda: Later on.. I 've to buy some food ;-)

@ChristianHupfer See ya! :)

@PauloCereda: Not if I see you first :-P

@ChristianHupfer das ente? :D

11:09 AM
@Rico: Just read the chat protocols and you'll know why :D

@ChristianHupfer oh, i see :D :D

@Rico So you want to use die and kill my duck? You mean. :)

@PauloCereda you know german is pretty dangerous. by word and deed

@Rico :)

@PauloCereda, now what? ;-)

11:15 AM
@daleif Uh-oh. :) Would you be interested in teaching arara how to speak Danish? :)

Speak Danish? Hmm, I've never used arara, since latexmk fits all my needs. However I'm going to take a look at it in order to mention it in a talk.
But why speak Danish? Most Danes understand English

@daleif No worries. :) I'm working on the documentation for the 4.0 version and I hope people enjoy it; the new version has a lot of improvements and new features. :)

We could pass it on to the Danish LaTeX comminity and ask them.

@daleif Ah it would be a nice addition. :)
@daleif Oh thank you! Mind if I write you an email about it, so you could forward to the community?

@daleif: we even have a Russian version. ^^ :)

sure

11:25 AM
@daleif Mange tak!

I would think most people here prefers the English version then we don't get these 'strange' translations that does not make much sense. Plus it is easier to ask for help when you know the English term

hmm site read only?

@daleif You are right. :) I opted for localization just as an attempt to make newbies more comfortable with the tool. The average Brazilian does not know a second language, and even the one who knows doesn't know it sufficiently.

@PauloCereda we've noticed that!

@daleif: here's my talk at last year's UK-TUG user meeting, in case you are curious about the new features: vimeo.com/113328301 :) And the user manual is typeset with memoir, yay!
@DavidCarlisle Oh. /sob

11:31 AM
@PauloCereda não se preocupe. Nem todo mundo pode ser tão impressionante como línguas estrangeiras como eu sou.

@DavidCarlisle HOLY COW 100% ACCURATE SENTENCE!

@PauloCereda as I said.

@PauloCereda, it makes sense to localize for some languages and not for others. We don't have a Danish localization for the TL installer either.
Video link saved for later

@daleif Interesting. :)

@PauloCereda it's the same in all the Scandinavian countries, they are far better at English than we are.

11:35 AM
@DavidCarlisle ooh.

yo'
Hello, everybody! It the site down for a long time?

@yo' twitter says We are looking into network issues now, stand by.

yo'
@DavidCarlisle ah so it's "down", not "down for maintenance" :D

We're back!

@PaulGessler you are?

11:50 AM
@DavidCarlisle I can get to the site, that is. As for me personally - still missing. :-)

@DavidCarlisle Paul McCartney Gessler. :)

I already reach vote cap, so lalalalalala. :)

@PauloCereda same here but s/vote/rep/

@DavidCarlisle I smell a DNS problem here, actually. But I have no control of the DNS server above me and the one above this one and the one above that one, unfortunately :(

@yo' perhaps but anyway there are still problems at their end: We have recovered from read-only mode, but are still tracking down an internal network issue causing errors for some users.

@DavidCarlisle I need to confess, it's unbelievably cool that they tweet these messages. IMHO that's a PR job well done.

i recently switched to mac. now I'm still look for a proper editor to write my tex files. any suggestions?

emacs, what else:-)

seconded.

well. not emacs... :)

aquamacs should be quite Mac themed

Motion adjourned.
@Rico MacVim. :)

@PauloCereda its a mac! it needs to look NICE! N.I.C.E as in NOT emacs and NOT vim ;)

1:14 PM
What is not nice about Emacs? Is it about looking hipster cool or getting work done?

@Rico Word has a shiny interface in Mac, then. Go for it. :)
Or Pages, it's good too. :)

@PauloCereda or do some real work ;)

@yo' Nah. <3
We iz back!

1:47 PM
HI guys. I'm trying to get rid of titlesec in my code. And decided to replace
`\titleformat{\section}{\normalfont\Large\bfseries}{\thesection}{1em}{}[{\titlerule[0.8pt]}`
by
`\let\originalsection\section
\renewcommand{\section}[1]{\originalsection{#1}\hrule[0.8]}`
but is \hrule standard to latex or defined by yet another lib I've included in my latex file?

yo'
@wget doesn't look correct. Why would you not want to use a good and powerful package?
@wget \hrule is a tex primitive and the syntax is completely different. Also, this doesn't look like a good idea since you add another paragraph after the section title. How do you make sure that it's not gonna move into the next page, and how are you gonna make the following paragraph unintended? titlesec solves all these problems for you.
@PauloCereda We is not:-/

:)
@yo' Who the heck is playing with the on/off switch?!

yo'
@PauloCereda a bug?

@yo' A very big bug. :)

yo'
@PauloCereda actually, it's a duck.
Oh what I did now...

1:54 PM
:)
So I had this image in a paper of mine. A friend said, why do you have a hot dog measurement scheme in your paper?. Here's the image:

yo'
@PauloCereda standard full automaton on 3 states...
I just dunno who invented the idea of double-circling the final states ;)

@yo' I wub you. <3

yo'
well, I usually draw it as a triangle, but you have very long labels on some of the edges, so this seems to work better

@yo' Matter of choice, actually (I'm used to it from Hopcroft). Some books use a out arrow. :)

yo'
i know it's just Mardi Gras, but I'm already getting ready for Passion: listening to Jesus Christ Superstar

1:57 PM
@yo' Ok I rolled back again. ;-)
Avoiding the next paragraph to be intended? I didn't know it was the role of titlesec, but parskip instead.

@yo' ooh! :)

yo'
@PauloCereda that's what I prefer, especially since we often have an output function. As well, automata transposition is there just reversal of all the arrows ;)
@wget well, that's the role of the \section macro. But if the first paragraph after the section is your rule, then you have to tweak it to make it work (there's some macro in LaTeX2e for it II think)
@PauloCereda it's with the scripts as well, and some parts are really dense I tell you. Not good if you're depressed.
online now. I give it 15 minutes :D

@yo' :)

@Rico Getting work done, i don't care if i use ugly tools, or get a bit dirty or even smell a bit, as long as the result is nice and good looking. Same with my editor :-p

2:13 PM
@Johannes_B wise words

@Rico They just spill out of me, can't stop it. :-)

@wget the standard heading code prevents a page break after the heading, controls indentation of the following paragraph and discourages page breaks after the first line of that paragraph. You need to be very careful adding code after the heading or chances are you'll break one or all of those.

@Rico Wennde ein Baby aufm Arm hast, isses ganz wichtig, bloß nich fallen lassen.
Anybody in the mood for testing if this is really a bug? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/119635/…

2:30 PM
@DavidCarlisle Still no green light

@JosephWright no not as much mail as I hoped

@DavidCarlisle Hmm

@JosephWright but we have eaten lots of pancakes, so it's not all bad

@DavidCarlisle I'll probably have the expl3 case changing updated again before we hear anything!
@DavidCarlisle Cool
@DavidCarlisle Had my mum/sister/nephew over for the weekend up to this morning, but no pancakes for me until Saturday

Do you know how I can add a dot after a chapter number.
I'm using \renewcommand{\thechapter}{\@arabic\c@chapter.} for the chapters, but when using an appendix, the numbering isn't suffixed by a dot. Any idea?
ex.: 1.1. --> the first 1 is followed by a dot, but not in A1.

2:33 PM
@wget \appendix does \gdef\thechapter{\@Alph\c@chapter}} and sets it back (that's just about all it does:-)
@wget why the @ form not \renewcommand{\thechapter}{\arabic{chapter}.} ?

@DavidCarlisle Good question ;-) I found some doc about that a few times ago. And used my way. But yours is working too. If you have an idea about the differences?
I thought the @ form is using TeX primitives, while yours is using the LaTeX interface right?
Btw, I don't know why having redefined \thechapter with
\renewcommand{\thechapter}{\arabic{chapter}.}
appendix does not take that redefinition into account, since as you said, it basically does \gdef\thechapter{\@Alph\c@chapter}}

@DavidCarlisle f-type expandability for case changing is requiring a bit of effort but I think the result will be better code :-)

yo'
@JosephWright I just hope that \Uppercase{Sněžných skútrů} won't break it :D

@yo' Current test version gives me SNĚŽNÝCH SKÚTRŮ (with LuaTeX/XeTeX): this one is easy as there are no context dependencies, LICR, expansion, etc. (I hope!)
@yo' The core idea is easy, it's the fiddly bits (which is what I'm reworking, plus improving some code logic)

OT? Look at the date

Q: Adding program listings using QR/Data Matrix

ANSI C MastahI apologize that this is not strictly a LaTeX question, but I thought this StackExchange would be most suitable; all of what I describe below is done in LaTeX, BTW. In my thesis I want to make sure that certain examples are illustrated with attached code; while I could put the code as files on m...

yo'
2:53 PM
@JosephWright well, there's the important "with utf-8 engines" of course ;)

@Johannes_B how dare you reject a question from the "ANSI C Mastah"?! ;-)

@PaulGessler It is quite interesting to discuss if this is doable/usable/advisable, and can be answered by »Just \includegraphics those damn images«, but really? OT
@PaulGessler Fertig, aus ;-)

@yo' Yes, but that's not a change and is documented
@yo' Works within the limitations I know about (and will document) for pdfTeX:
\robustify\IeC
\robustify\'
\robustify\v
\robustify\r
\protected@edef\test{Sněžných~skútrů}\show\test
\edef\test{\tl_upper_case:n{\test}}\show\test
gives
> \test=macro:
->Sn\IeC {\v e}\IeC {\v z}n\IeC {\'y}ch sk\IeC {\'u}tr\IeC {\r u}.
l.304 ...edef\test{Sněžných~skútrů}\show\test

?
> \test=macro:
->SN\IeC {\v E}\IeC {\v Z}N\IeC {\'Y}CH SK\IeC {\'U}TR\IeC {\r U}.

@yo' I'm not about to try to code all of inputenc for case changing expandably with pdfTeX
@Johannes_B Do you understand the question?

3:05 PM
@JosephWright Not sure :-D Look at my edit-comment.

@yo' I hope the 'it's got to be Unicode' position is reasonable for new code: I am going to make sure LICR works!

In pgfplotI would like to be able to do ytick={\pgfkeysvalueof{/pgfplots/ymin},\pgfkeysvalueof{/pgfplots/ymin}+50,...,\‌pgfkeysvalueof{/pgfplots/ymax}} but I cannot get it to compile. Am I missing something obvious and has it been asked before?

yo'
3:35 PM
@JosephWright I understand it :)

@Johannes_B ok? zusammenhang?

@Rico Apparently i once said that, but i can't remember. But it is another example of wise words :-p

@Johannes_B oh! Right!

yo'
@Joseph but it's nice that there's a reasonable level of compatibility with [utf8]{inputenc}

@Johannes_B your baby will appreciate it

3:43 PM
@yo' That's the plan: I'm working on it!

@Rico I guess so :-)

yo'
@JosephWright you're our hero! :)

@PaulGessler Can you help me with my post Convert from rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates?

@Adelyn do you have a link?

@PaulGessler Sure. One minute.
@PaulGessler This is an analogous posting to which you had responded in January.

3:52 PM
I am jusst scrolling through unanswered Qs. So far, i didn't understand a single one of them, most are aasking for LyX stuff.

@PaulGessler The post in January was about placing points on the Cartestian plane using rectangular coordinates. This post in February was about placing points on the Cartestian plane using polar coordinates.

@Adelyn I don't understand what you want at all. You ask about not defining the radius of the circle in terms of the metric system. But in your MWE (which has a lot of extraneous stuff in it, by the way), the circle's radius is not defined in terms of metric units!

@PaulGessler: Think of the banana guy as an unsung hero ;-) @Johannes_B

Q: How to add templates to TeXmaker?

user3498555I´ll start my thesis and i found some nice templates here: sharelatex. By the way i dont get how to add the zip file of the template to teXmaker. Could anybody help me with this issue?

4:00 PM
The unsung hero badge, awarded to the banana guy

@PaulGessler I use the command \draw (0,1) circle (1); to draw the circle. Doesn't that use the units of the axis environment?

@ChristianHupfer so far this badge is impossible to achieve here. :-)

@Johannes_B: Perhaps... on Unzip.SE it's on topic

@ChristianHupfer :-)

@Adelyn yes, but what does that have to do with the metric system?

4:05 PM
@PaulGessler Oh. Sorry. Some people replied with specifying point B using the metric system. So, I was specifically saying not to use the metric system.

@Adelyn and I am specifically saying, "it is not using the metric system", so where is the problem?

@PaulGessler I have TikZ draw a circle centered not at the origin. I want to specify points on the circle in polar coordinates.
@PaulGessler If the circle is centered at the origin, it is typical coding.
@PaulGessler In this case, though, the circle is not centered at the origin.

I still don't see what that has to do with anything you've mentioned in your question

@PaulGessler: I know, nobody has achieved it so far (and probably no one will get it, not even me )

Look! It's @PaulMcCartney!

Q: How to sort citations by name with biblatex 'sortcites' option

SverreIn my MWE below, I sort my bibliography with the nyt option (name-year-title), cf. the biblatex manual under 3.1.2.1 General. Then I also include sortcites = true, which according to the manual will "sort citations if multiple entry keys are passed to a citation command. If this option is enabled...

4:13 PM
@PaulGessler In my code, I specify the three points in rectangular coordinates so that people can compile the code and see the points. What I want is to have code that is something like "A=(1, \pi/5)" to plot a point that is 72 degrees from the line y=1.
@PaulGessler What is important now is for you to understand what I want to code. I think that this is code that people using TikZ would want to know how to do.
@PaulGessler One person, Harish Kumar, had suggested using a scopeenvironment. He knew what I wanted, he just didn't know how to "move the scope environment" so that the center of the circle was at (0,1).

@Johannes_B: One for you :-P

Q: Changing math font in Classicthesis

LeoI'm using the popular Classicthesis template for my thesis. I like almost everything of this template apart from the math font (it should be the one loaded with Mathpazo) and since I have to write lots of formulae, I'd like to restore the classic modern font. So my question is the following: ho...

@ChristianHupfer I know you have a doctors degree ... Can you please lick a frog, or smoke some weed or let your fiancee whack you in the head till you feel dumber than a piece of bread? Please read golatex.de/viewtopic,p,54294.html#54294 and tell me where it is unclear.
@ChristianHupfer Weisde, da versuchsde aufzuräumen, und dann kommt der nächste und macht Spittel. Das regt mich auf.

4:29 PM
@PaulGessler Do you know what I am looking for in the code now?
@PaulGessler I have a circle centered at (0,1). I want to specify points on this circle of radius 1 using the axis environment.

@Johannes_B: I'll will have a look on your essay

4:44 PM
@PaulGessler Are you there?

@Adelyn as far as I can tell, it's not possible, I believe because pgfplots overloads : for coordinate systems while it would be needed to specify polar coordinates in the traditional TikZ way.
@Adelyn I've said this before: you are using pgfplots but fighting it tooth and nail to control all of the things it tries to handle automatically. You could get identical diagrams (probably with less code) by just using TikZ on its own and leaving pgfplots out of it.

@ChristianHupfer I wouldn't call it essay, but thanks. Reason for my rage was golatex.de/viewtopic,p,69040.html#69040

@PaulGessler All I want is the axis environment. Can I plot the axes and use just TikZ to get the circle with the points on it specified?

@Adelyn I need to get back to other things now, sorry. That might be possible, but because pgfplots does scaling of its unit vectors (to fit the plotted data), you'd need a way to pass that information out of the axis environment. And that's not something I wish to spend time figuring out.

@PaulGessler OK.
@PaulGessler I will just plot points the way that I have plotted them in the posted code.

Q: drawing lines using polar axis coordinate system in pgfplots

Miguel de Val-BorroI would like to draw arrows with polar axis notation in a pgfplots figure that has Cartesian axes with the draw command: \draw[->] (polar axis cs:radius=1, angle=30) -- (polar axis cs:radius=2, angle=30); I could not find any way to do something like this in the documentation. Are polar coordi...

yo'
do we have a canonical dupe for \binom{}{} question?

@wget how could it?
@JosephWright as much effort as getting the bike out first time this year? :-) (Nice day for it, though)

yo'
@DavidCarlisle haha, first time. I've spent 15 hours this year on bike :) (according to the account statement, but to me it seems that a lot of journeys are missing).

5:18 PM
@yo' was a time a cycled to work everyday but that would be a bit tiresome from here, so I'm a bit out of practice, but today's really sunny and cold and it seemed like a bike was the thing to be on:-)

yo'
@DavidCarlisle here it's grey and drizzling, but I took the bike anyways :)

@DavidCarlisle :-)

yo'
@ChristianHupfer I presonally prefer \binom{}{} for 2d vectors.

@JosephWright do you have the case changing in hand, or do you want to bounce a test case around for ideas?

@DavidCarlisle All in hand: just need to finish the work to make it f-type expandable (this shows up with nesting, for example)
@DavidCarlisle More tedious than anything: it's all doable!
@DavidCarlisle There will be quite a lot of lines to change as well as comments, so it's more-or-less a rewrite of that idea (although in reality most of the stuff is the same)
@DavidCarlisle I stumbled across the issue when I tried to nest: this hangs at present I think as a token-by-token expansion ends up putting a quark somewhere is shouldn't (when doing the LICR part of the code, but still needs fixing)
@DavidCarlisle I did a few tests with LuaTeX: the unicode code there doesn't seem to know about contextual changes or indeed even simple cases like the Eszett business! I guess it actually does case folding.

5:31 PM
@JosephWright you mean the lua unicode functions?

@DavidCarlisle Yes

@JosephWright so your work has purpose even if we go the context way and switch to luatex:-)

@DavidCarlisle Hans has mentioned LuaTeX ending up with its own Unicode support and of course I've not check Lua 5.3 (not yet in LuaTeX), but certainly at the moment you can't just use the Lua code without care

@PaulGessler I have two similar posts. Only one person, Harish Kumar, offered code to one of them that used mostly the axis environment. He had to use some yshift commands to get the circle centered at (0,1). The only other responses involved other environments.
@PaulGessler The post you suggested is from a year ago. Nobody answered it, as you said.
@PaulGessler Here is a link to my other post, in case you are interested. tex.stackexchange.com/questions/226767/…

@DavidCarlisle I think for upper/lower I've got everything bar LICR sorted: mixed case is still to do. Probably not enough time this evening to get it all done but I'd hope to be finished tomorrow.

@JosephWright This seems odd:

A: Bug in fontenc (or libertine)?

David CarlisleThe difference is due to OT1: .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13 i .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13 n .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13 g .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13 . .\glue 3.7921 plus 4.875 minus 0.36096 .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13 (ligature Th) .\OT1/LinuxLibertineT-TOsF/m/n/13...

@DavidCarlisle Yes
@DavidCarlisle Issue with the T1 version of the font? (I assume T1 should have the ligature here)

@JosephWright I suppose so although Th ligatures aren't that common are they?

@DavidCarlisle Just checking CM: doesn't seem to have the ligature in either OT1 or T1

@DavidCarlisle The Th ligature is what I dislike the most in Libertine fonts.

5:57 PM
@egreg use T1 encoding then, it seems.

@DavidCarlisle Is anybody reporting this ligature thing to the maintainers?

@Johannes_B well what is there to report. If you use T1 instead of OT1 you expect to get different ligatures and kerns, although typically you get more not less.

@ChristianHupfer One for you latex-community.org/forum/…
@DavidCarlisle Maybe reporting is the wrong word, rather asking, was this happening by accident or on purpose?

@Johannes_B @egreg seems to know more about this:-)

yo'
@DavidCarlisle The Th ligature is a matter of language in which you typeset, I'd say, or even the origin of the word.

6:05 PM
@yo' it would be less surprising if it was in T1 but not OT1

yo'
@DavidCarlisle I try not to be surprised with LaTeX ;)

@Adelyn on the main site, the @-ping only works if the user you're pinging owns or has previously edited the post. So I did not see your comments there at all, sorry. :-(

7:08 PM
@Adelyn Sorry if you've stated this already, but why do you insist on using the axis environment?

@TorbjørnT. no one knows... :-)
@egreg do you dislike Th ligatures in general or specifically the one in Libertine? (Just curious.)

@PaulGessler In Libertine, mostly.

@JosephWright: I had the most epic idea for a UK-TUG beamer template! Hold the phone. :)

7:39 PM
@Johannes_B: Why is that one for me?

@ChristianHupfer I didn't want to take care of a question of this kind, @StefanKottwitz answered that question already.

@AdamLiter LOL

8:15 PM
@PauloCereda How is version 4 coming along?

@AdamLiter Stuck in the manual. :(

8:30 PM
@PauloCereda Do you have to rewrite most of it? :(

@AdamLiter I actually do need to rewrite it completely. :(

@PauloCereda That's unfortunate. :/ Is any of it fun to write?

@AdamLiter I need to write in English, and there have to be sentences that make sense!
:P

@PauloCereda write it in Portuguese, and I'll translate it for you.

@DavidCarlisle ooh! :)

8:43 PM
\documentclass{book}
\begin{filecontents}{\jobname-test.tex}
\chapter{included file}
\end{filecontents}
\begin{document}
\tableofcontents
\chapter[Chapter Title]{Chapter Title}
\backmatter
\addtocontents{toc}{Test}
\include{\jobname-test}
\end{document}
@barbarabeeton mentions in tex.stackexchange.com/questions/228657/… that this is (poorly) documented, can anybody give me a pointer?

@PauloCereda Ah, I see.

@PauloCereda It would be easier if you write it in German.

@egreg I can save a lot of spaces. :)
Das araradirektivenrulepattern!

@Johannes_B it's poorly documented as you shouldn't be doing it anyway:-) but \addtocontents is a non-immediate write so it gets the page numbers correct, but that means it is held until the next page is output but before that \include switches the aux file to the local one for the chapter so things get out of sync

@DavidCarlisle non-immediate write, thanks

8:54 PM
@Johannes_B but you shouldn't have \addtocontents in the document really.

@DavidCarlisle It was that question for add white space, barabra and i commented, c.f. link above.

@Johannes_B yes but it's like saying the way to change a chapter heading is to stick \vspace{3in}\Huge\bfseries somewhere in the document, it works but it's still wrong:-)

@DavidCarlisle In a semantic, or TeXnical way?

@Johannes_B well both actually but mainly the first.

@DavidCarlisle What would be better?

8:59 PM
@Johannes_B the reason the spacing was wrong was that the numbered chapters were writing to the toc via \l@chapter which used suitable fonts and spacing. It is a design choice in book class that unnumbered chapters have no toc entry. So rather than changing that the OP added a basic text line to the toc which didn't match the class specified chapter entries so rather than fix that just added more ad hoc spacing
