@PauloCereda Greetings from Seattle!
@PauloCereda News about the upcoming TeXdoc online 2.0 ? :-)

@StefanKottwitz Frasier. :)
@StefanKottwitz I'm prepared to restart my work, but sadly I'm sick at the moment and have a conference to organize, so my plans are suspended for a while. In a couple of days, I'll have good news. :)

@DavidCarlisle to continue \it/\bf habits? ;-)
@Johannes_B I saw your feedback but didn't have time to reply earlier. Thanks for looking at it. I'll take a look in detail this evening.

@PauloCereda Great! Another forum is ready to connect to it. In the meaning, to have a shortcut code.

@StefanKottwitz how nice!

9:08 PM
@Johannes_B: Your are in a template destruction rant ;-)

@DavidCarlisle Nostalgia of the olden times?

@egreg You'd know about that

@DavidCarlisle I've almost never used LaTeX2.09
@DavidCarlisle I started experimenting it only when NFSS was shipped out, but I was using AMSTeX at the time.

9:24 PM
@egreg I know, You were too busy reading the Joy of *ex

@DavidCarlisle “Sauces and pickles for special occasions”.

yo'
@egreg I'm not sure what to do with the ~ question, the two questions are really about the same (even if they're not literal duplicates).

@yo' The new one asks for a specific description.

yo'
9:41 PM
@egreg IMHO the old one is a better question and the new one gets better answers :-/

@yo' Merge?

yo'
@JosephWright possibly? I would consider it a good option

@JosephWright Ah! Very sorry I didn't see this in time; I was 850 miles away from my computer looking for housing in Wisconsin :( It's been a very, very busy few weeks.

@SeanAllred You're still in time for adding your name

yo'
@egreg I think he's just done it ;)

9:51 PM
@SeanAllred: You got my +1 ;-)

@ChristianHupfer No, i am not. I am just confused by the term template. We (the LaTeX community) need a clear statement on what a template is/ what a template is supposed to do.

@SeanAllred Wisconsin, huh? Anywhere near Milwaukee, by chance?

@ChristianHupfer For example: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/222518/…
just looked at our TUG membership Q. All users are >10k

@Johannes_B: Yes, that's true... no <10k rep user applied (so far)
@Johannes_B: I believe, that many users are not aware of Meta.TeX.SX and ignored Joseph's question/call for nomination, even if listed at the right sidebar

@ChristianHupfer I am <10k but i didn't put my name. A joint membership is currently just a few Euros more. Np need for me to apply.

10:13 PM
@Johannes_B: It's a personal decision: I have a DANTE membership so far, considered to get TUG to (joint), but I would not have put my name on that list if @PauloCereda hadn't fired sugar on me :-P

@ChristianHupfer @JosephWright Would there be any benefits of a TeX.SX TUG membership over a regular membership or a joint membership?

@Johannes_B Not specifically

@JosephWright So no reason for me to apply. :-)

cfr
Could somebody familiar with the listings package and/or RTL typesetting take a look at

Q: lstlisting caption problem with xepersian

FurihrI am using the xepersian and lstlisting packages and I am having some trouble with the captions. Here is the code: \documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{article} \usepackage{listings} \usepackage[usenames,dvipsnames]{color} \usepackage{xepersian} \settextfont{Nazli} %\setlatintextfont{Courier} \Default...

I am sure that my answer is not a good way to do this... at all...

@Johannes_B: If I will be not a member of the Fellowship of the Eight ;-) I will get a regular one TUG membership ;-)
@cfr: Who does know Farsi or Urdu here?

10:26 PM
@ChristianHupfer Are you a TUG member right now? Have you read the review by @nicola? The paper is akzeptiert by TUG :-( I posted my concern earlier today, i am just to lazy to search for it right now.

cfr
@ChristianHupfer No idea. But somebody who knows listings would be an improvement!

@Johannes_B: No, am not, as I said in a comment I made about a quarter of an hour ago ;-)
@Johannes_B: Which paper? I am confused... it's late, it's too dark ... whatever

cfr
Are we supposed to vote for at most 8 people?

@cfr: Nope... I've upvoted all ;-) For you I broke the rules and voted five times ;-)
@cfr: Jubobs is our listings expert, I believe

yo'
@ChristianHupfer however, he doesn't grave his letters in stone, AFAIK :D

cfr
10:32 PM
@ChristianHupfer But doesn't that rather defeat the point? That is, if everyone does that, it will all turn on coin tosses. If only some people do that, it will all depend on the others' opinions. That is, don't your votes cancel each other out?
@Jubobs @ChristianHupfer says you are our listings expert. If so, could you look at

and add an answer which is correct? (That is, unlike mine.)

@cfr Well ideally

cfr
@JosephWright Damn.

@JosephWright really? I thought "Everyone is welcome to vote for as many or as few candidates as they wish."

Quick beamer question. Is \Tiny too small to use to show a url in a typical university seminar setting?

10:34 PM
@cfr: I am sure that there are other ones (non-nominees too) that did not vote for every candidate... It's quite unlikely that there is a draw at all...

@PaulGessler Well yes

yo'
@StrongBad people won't write down the url anyways during the lecture, and it's clickable in the PDF they download afterwards even if it's too small to be read ;)

@PaulGessler But in the end we can only pick eight people so ...

@Johannes_B: What about that link?
@cfr: I think, only a mod can ping another user currently not being in chat...

@yo' but if they cannot read it, I wouldn't show it.

10:36 PM
@ChristianHupfer There's a time period after their last visit when it still works

yo'
@ChristianHupfer not precisely. The reality is: you can pink whoever appears in the tab auto-complete

@JosephWright@yo': Thanks, I've learned something ;-)

yo'
@StrongBad well, depending on what do you have it there for, it may make sense even if they can't read it, for instance below a figure as a reminder: I'm not the author of this figure

@ChristianHupfer The site i linked lists a paper and as well the TUG endorsement. Even if the paper is outdated in some cases.

cfr
@JosephWright So I should not have voted when I did... because I cannot undo a vote I have cast...

yo'
10:38 PM
Other than that: the rule I use is: three steps down at most, i.e., \small, \footnotesize, \scriptsize. With \scriptsize the distraction it brings to the listeners is already quite significant

@yo' that is why they are there. I am just curious if people will be able to read them.

@cfr: You are quite scared to be chosen? ;-)

@cfr Ah, you'll know for next year :-)

@yo' I try and not mess with the sizes

yo'
@cfr well, I don't see why would it be necessary to vote only for 8 people. You can simply have "acceptable/non-acceptable" distinction, and then the 8 people that are acceptable to the most get selected
@StrongBad as I say, 3 sizes down (4 sizes altogether) is the most I use. However, you're fine with 3 sizes altogether for most things. For the web addresses with pictures, I prefer to put the name of the website/author there rather than the http. If you publish it later on your or the seminar's website, you can change this.

10:42 PM
@yo' People can of course choose to vote in this way

@yo' Thanks

yo'
@StrongBad you're welcome :)

@yo' I of course have a slightly different view as if there is a tie I and the other mods need something to base a decision on

cfr
@ChristianHupfer ? I obviously didn't vote for me. So that is not a vote I could transfer to Sean Allred anyway.

yo'
@StrongBad btw, I didn't notice that you've got 9k rep here, that'ss really cool!

cfr
10:44 PM
@ChristianHupfer (Otherwise, I could just edit my post, undo my vote and reassign it.)

@JosephWright With the merge I lost my green tick! ;-)

@egreg: Oh no ... ;-)

@egreg Oops, sorry

@cfr: We are talking on different threads ;-)

@yo' I would have over 10k if I didn't give so much of it to David in bounties, but I feel bad for him and he needs the rep.

10:47 PM
@egreg I always get into trouble when I think there is a merge that is sensible

yo'
@StrongBad I need to tell you, Sir (well, I hope this title is correct, your profile page doesn't specify it), that your ability to catch our local humour is extraordinary :D

@egreg excellent!

@StrongBad: Lol

@StrongBad hmmm we could check the records....

@DavidCarlisle I did.

10:51 PM
@StrongBad: I even unaccepted egreg's answer to my question in order to give @DavidCarlisle the most important 15 rep to jump over the 200k line ;-)

@JosephWright Can you find a merge to do where @DavidCarlisle has a tick?

@egreg I don't answer questions that are clear duplicates

@DavidCarlisle I still have 500+ more than you, I can survive.
@DavidCarlisle For the month, I mean. :P

cfr
@ChristianHupfer Oh no... ;)

@cfr: ???

11:04 PM
@egreg strangely the same lead for the year

@DavidCarlisle Bizarre!

@cfr Expert, I don't know. Enthusiast, rather :) Unfortunately, I don't know anything about right-to-left stuff... Sorry.

@Jubobs: Come on, you're the one with most listings answers I believe ;-)

@JosephWright I see that Sean Allred put his name down an hour ago. I believe Thomas Sturm also had an interest... Is it too late?
@ChristianHupfer Not yet. egreg has 128, I only have 117 :)

@Jubobs: Go ahead, you will overtake him :D
@Jubobs: I think it's still possible to nominate ... Thomas Sturm would be a good choice!

cfr
11:17 PM
@Jubobs You still know about 50% more stuff relevant to the question than me!
