Hi guys, I just wondering if anyone can assist me solve a small issue here tex.stackexchange.com/questions/208434/…

@User436823 hey, I'm pretty sure some people will be able to help you put ;)
out *

6 hours later…
7:45 AM
good morning

@Christoph Hello

@JosephWright what do you think - would a review request for this diagram be better placed at graphic design SE or tex SE?
I'm planning on creating a larger (A0) version, including tables to occupy otherwise unused space, and probably more diagrams for other substances

8:08 AM
@ChristianHupfer You said you want to learn something about KOMA script?
0
A: KOMA book: correct hyperlink to the index?

Johannes_BFlowing down the levels of implementation You noted yourself that the koma option index=totoc leads to the correct behaviour. Let's have a look how theindex environment is defined in book and scrbook. book.cls \newenvironment{theindex} {\if@twocolumn \@restonec...

Morning @DavidCarlisle
I see Chris R. is very determined about control symbols

8:33 AM
@JosephWright After 20 years or so, you get used to it:-)

@DavidCarlisle I guess so

any memoir users here? is this a bug undocumented or documented feature (or did I miss some feature) tex.stackexchange.com/questions/208458/…

8:57 AM
@JosephWright I think these are tex.stackexchange.com/questions/208565/error-missing and tex.stackexchange.com/questions/208555/confusing-missing about to be closed for the wrong reason
They should be duped but now it's closed for UWYA which is pretty much not the case.

Maybe I shouldn't have directed my previous question to Joseph, so again: would a review request for this diagram be better placed at graphic design SE or tex SE? I'd like to get feedback about the overall design and how I can improve it. It's not so much about the code behind it

@Christoph That's a graphic design thing, then
@percusse Problem is the questions are poor, so closing is likely to be the right course of action one way or another

@JosephWright Even with the wrong reason?

@percusse You could argue for 'off topic' here, I guess, as much as anything else as they are simply not very good questions

9:06 AM
@JosephWright There is code and everything, so I would be reluctant to let this one go as such but ok.

@percusse Voting is a community thing, so it's down to how people see it
@percusse Yes, there is code but the questions are still not very good

@JosephWright It is OK for closing. But not unclear. That's clearly a syntax error question. We don't need to pretend that we don't see it.
So I'm only concerned about the closing reason not the closing itself

@percusse I think 'off topic' is the best based on the general model, but as you know we've never been too happy about that either

9:30 AM
Hello people! Miss you guys!

@percusse I've duped the later question to the earlier one: what to do with the earlier one is then the issue

@PauloCereda good mornig! One question about arara: in the last weeks the topic "lilypond" was widely discussed on our italian forum (and in the GuITmeeting too). I wondered if you wrote a rule for arara in order to avoid to run lilypond-book from terminal.
@PauloCereda Do you know all these solutions? (One for sure :-) )
@PauloCereda do you know if they correctly work?
so I could suggest them to the italian users!

@FrancescoEndrici Hi Francesco! Just a minute. :)

9:59 AM
@Francesco: Back on track. :) I have a list of tools to be included in the new version of arara, and I'm pretty sure I can write one for lilypond using the new underlying version 4.0 features. I might need some help because although I've used lilypond in the past, I used it as a standalone document generation instead of book integration. >>>
@Francesco: Since you are already one of my contributors (your rule is updated, by the way: github.com/cereda/arara/blob/master/rules/frontespizio.yaml) we could team up and write a proper rule for lilypond. :)

@JosephWright agreed. Thanks

@Johannes_B: ???

@PauloCereda Thanks! If I can I'll help you, anyway I use lilypond for the last time at least 3 years ago...
I've to study!

@FrancescoEndrici You've been using it more than I. :P

10:18 AM
@egreg: phew, 25 upvotes for you today. Then I need to complete my list tomorrow. Then I will upvote David's. :)

@PauloCereda hopefully egreg's will be reverted for serial voting

@DavidCarlisle I took care of it. :) The same care I need to take when upvoting you. :)

@DavidCarlisle: Paulo's multiple personality is especially helpful for upvoting and his voting frauds @PauloCereda ;-)

@PauloCereda Aren't they going to trigger what we know?

10:49 AM
@egreg According to my calculations, no. :)
They won't suspect a thing. :)

@PauloCereda And no photo of the new room?

@egreg Ah gimme a minute. :)
@egreg: the right side of my office. :)

11:04 AM
@PauloCereda I wouldn't try imagining the wrong side. :P

is SE down?

@egreg LOL
@egreg: the other side has my Linux machine. :)

@PauloCereda So you confirm it's the wrong side. :P

@egreg Could be worse: it could be the blue screen of death wall. :)

1 hour later…
12:20 PM
@DavidCarlisle Yes?
@DavidCarlisle What about that "...?"
And yes, I cheated in my answer... will delete my answer as soon as you describe the hsize a bit. Haven't seen that until now
@DavidCarlisle Does it get the actual width of an X-column without the margins (col-sep)?
adding \hsize to my example does not work but I guess that's due to the filled up last row I posted

1:03 PM
@egreg: How was the meeting?

@PauloCereda Very good, several interesting talks.

@egreg Yay! :)
Now I need to write about arara for the journal. :)

2:01 PM
Editing spree in action.

@egreg enemy of tag
Due to the recent meta post

@egreg allready got bored :-) That's for today...

@LaRiFaRi Good job!

@percusse just made the obvious ones
@egreg I thought I get 2 rep for each... shoot, will have to complain in another meta
;-)

@LaRiFaRi Not when you've more than 10K, I believe.

2:09 PM
ah, that started much earlier. 3000 or something
1500 edits should be enough. That makes sense. My fault, if I answer posts in parallel.

@LaRiFaRi yep, it's only for those edits that get reviewed. You still can edit tag wikis and tag excerpts for 2x2 points per tag ;)

@LaRiFaRi should do yes (same as the value you would put in p) will look later

@ChristianHupfer You said once, that you want to learn something about KOMA-script. The linked question might help you.
@LaRiFaRi @tohecz 2000 tp sum it up. I recently hit that border.

@tohecz I think, most rewarding would be to edit all my answered posts with a retag to . I hear that is something desired here...

2:31 PM
@LaRiFaRi better

@LaRiFaRi: I wonder what would happen if I retire arara. :) You would have a lot of answers to edit. :P

3:04 PM
Just had a book chapter published: eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-3527333088.html. Taking a look at the sample chapter, I see c01.dvi as part of the file name :-)

@JosephWright grats!
Btw, I can't decide which one I like the most:

@JosephWright congratulations:-)

3:19 PM
@DavidCarlisle Oh, our submission wasn't in LaTeX

@JosephWright do you think they really went word -> tex or is it just a name coincidence?

@DavidCarlisle Well I know submission was (as usual) in Word format
@DavidCarlisle Doesn't look like 3B2/Arbortext so is probably TeX-based

@PauloCereda luckily, you had the wisdom and modesty to start your command with a %. Most people think it's junk-code, anyway, so I would just leave it there...

@Johannes_B: Oh yes thank you... You should finally write a good manual on KOMA

@LaRiFaRi When people will ever learn. :)

3:43 PM
@ChristianHupfer Why me?

@Johannes_B: You are one of the users here using KOMA most, I have the impression

@ChristianHupfer What about @esdd? She actually knows the author :-)
@ChristianHupfer I guess you know how hard it is to write good documentation.
I think \SI{90}{\percent} of us do.

@Johannes_B: Yes, I am steadily trying to improve my assoccntdoc.pdf ;-)

@Johannes_B: esdd ... Elke Schulz?

3:47 PM
@PauloCereda If @ChristianHupfer got the same message from youtube, we both can't watch it :-(
@ChristianHupfer Elke Schubert. Nice woman.

@Johannes_B Why does GEMA keep doing this to me? I cannot troll Germans. :)
2

@Johannes_B: Right, Schubert, I confused her surname ...
@PauloCereda: Can't watch it, sorry
@PauloCereda: You are trolling us enough, in my point of view, by not upvoting our answers/questions :-P

@ChristianHupfer That's half-a-lie. :)

Say the opposite of these words: 1)Always. 2)Coming. 3)From. 4)Take. 5)Me. 6)Down.
@PauloCereda :-p

@Johannes_B Reverse Polish Notation for Rick and Rolled? :P
@percusse: sir, make YouTube work in Germany.

3:52 PM
Well, anyway, guys, I have to shutdown now, getting the last moving boxes together ... for tomorrow. Perhaps I will be online tomorrow in the evening. See you

"Times New Roman should never be typeset" Full stop. :D @egreg tex.stackexchange.com/a/208650/11002

@ChristianHupfer See ya! :)

@ChristianHupfer See you, don't drop boxes.

@tohecz A bit too drastic. It's not bad, after all.

@PauloCereda Is the song stuck in your head?

3:53 PM
@Johannes_B The one Andrew suggested in the Pi question. :)

@egreg well, only one of the worst serif fonts in use :-/ The thin strokes are just too thin and disappear even on decent printers

@Johannes_B: The moving helpers are paid and have an insurance... and my gold and jewellery and the paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso etc. are safe ;-)

@tohecz cm's thinner:-)

@DavidCarlisle not really ... ?
Or is it only the Times New Roman MS that is so buggy?

@PauloCereda Which one is that?

3:56 PM
@tohecz It's meant for printing on newsprint

@ChristianHupfer boldmath re-instated:-)

@Johannes_B The song in the Wizard of Oz, the one when they say We are off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz. :)

@JosephWright I know, and it seems to do a good job there. But it should have never been the default font in you know where, together with Arial.

@PauloCereda I have a confession to make: Never saw it.

@tohecz that's why there was so much pressure to get a times based math font as cm math looks so light next to pretty much anything else.

3:57 PM
@Johannes_B Do not worry, I just watched because of DSOTM. :)

@DavidCarlisle but isn't it the thick thick strokes that makes Times look darker, and not the thicker thin strokes?

@tohecz details details:-)

4:22 PM
Does anybody have one of those anniversary editions of DSOTM?

4:38 PM
@PauloCereda I had the Pulse edition but somebody stole it.
I'll kill if I know who did it

@percusse Oh I have that DVD. :)

@PauloCereda Do you have the pulse box? It's 2014 everybody has the dvd
There is a blinking LED on the spine of the box, that was supposed to blink until 2000.

@percusse I only have the DVD box.

Yea limited edition stuff

4:58 PM
Well, 2.5 years might have made this difficult to reproduce. — percusse Oct 17 at 21:26
LOL

@PauloCereda as noted above, we like lisp..

Hi, I'm getting troubles for turning off oldstylefigures in maths:
\usepackage{fourier}
\usepackage[no-math]{fontspec}
\setsansfont[BoldFont=Vollkorn Medium, BoldItalicFont=Vollkorn Medium Italic, Numbers={Proportional,Uppercase}]{Vollkorn}
\setmainfont[BoldFont=Vollkorn Medium, BoldItalicFont=Vollkorn Medium Italic, Numbers={Proportional,Uppercase}]{Vollkorn}
\usepackage[italic,defaultmathsizes]{mathastext}
I get what I want outside math environment but somehow the Numbers={Proportional,Uppercase} is not applied for maths...

hi tex
is there a common documentclass, likely based on report, that I can get, replace the logo with my company's, same for the address, and write reports in it? Something I could write audit reports or stuff like that in it.

@FlorianMargaine The logo would be on each page or not?

it would

? each page?

7:30 PM
yes, each page

thanks
but well, there is this, there is the need to add a footer, there is the need to add an address somewhere... and all this pretty :)
I started writing one from scratch... but I'm no good designer.
hence why I'm looking for a ready-made "corporate" package

7:45 PM
and fancyhdr doesn't seem to work.
i.e. nothing shows up in headers/footers

Did you put \pagestyle{fancy} ?

I'm afraid I did
this is the full tex file: gist.github.com/Ralt/27b89dabd815e4876ee5

@FlorianMargaine I'm not sure, but our own Nicola Talbot might have some package just for that. I just can't remember the name. :)

Found pressrelease, but maybe not what you are looking for.

7:58 PM
I was actually downloading it
yeah no :)
thanks for the pointer though

@DavidCarlisle @egreg Have you got any stories of what nonsense ever existed in ISO or IEEE typography standards? This guy would use them I think ;)
Well, this tex.SE answer states ISO 31/XI suggests the upright version, which might be considered a standard. However I agree it's too minor to justify an edit - though providing a global \d or similar might improve the readability of the "correct" typesetting. — Tobias Kienzler 31 mins ago

@tohecz What I like most is that physical constants must be typeset in italics because their value can change over time.

@egreg daring to comment in that manner? :)

8:16 PM
Why is Lua standard lib so void of powerful list manipulations? Why can't I go back to tedious normal programming now that I'm used to Python one-liner syntactical syrup? Why can't we have pyLaTeX instead of LuaLaTeX? Argh.
Sorry, I had to get that out. You may go back to your usual activities.

@Evpok What have the Romans Lua ever done for us? :D
3
but don't worry, I see your pain

@tohecz \luaexec{for i=0,41 do tex.sprint(string.format('\string&$\%d$',i))end} is nice, I grant it that.

@Evpok although not as nice as just writing it in classic tex

@Evpok <insert the four yorkshiremen joke here>

8:32 PM
@DavidCarlisle Nice, thanks. Though I am already stretching the willingness of my partners by forcing them to use LuaLaTeX. Asking them to run a python script might be too much. But I'll try :)

@PauloCereda ask and ye shall receive
Michael: Ahh.. Very passable, this, very passable.
Graham: Nothing like a good glass of Chateau de Chassilier, eh Josiah?
Terry J: You're right there Obediah.
Eric: Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Chateau de Chassilier?
Michael: Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o' tea.
Graham: A cup o' COLD tea.
Eric: Without milk or sugar.
Terry J: OR tea!
Michael: In a cracked cup, and all.
Eric: We never had a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.

@DavidCarlisle <3

@Evpok I've never used pythontex, just know it's there:-) and as I say I'd be more likely to use tex than lua even in luatex unless you really need to access one of the callbacks to tex internals

how to make fancy style by default on all pages? it only applies when I use \thispagestyle{fancy}
(the tex file)

@FlorianMargaine \pagestyle? :)

8:37 PM
@PauloCereda look at the tex file, it has it
line 4
but... it still only appears when I use \thispagestyle{fancy}
hence my question :P
maybe I have the wrong order?

@DavidCarlisle Well, it would probably be wiser, but at least I have some familiarity with Lua and it looks like a proper language. TeX looks like a queer relic of a long lost past. And it frightens me.

@FlorianMargaine note \maketitle and \chapter use \thispagestyle{plain} internally so that overrides the genaral style

@DavidCarlisle I was gonna say that. :)

@Evpok that's why it suits @egreg

@DavidCarlisle damn.

8:41 PM
paulo@alexandria ~$ texdef -t latex -c book chapter

\chapter:
\long macro:->\if@openright \cleardoublepage \else \clearpage \fi \thispagestyle {plain}\global \@topnum \z@ \@afterindentfalse \secdef \@chapter \@schapter

@FlorianMargaine fancyhdr as a way to redefine that style if i recall correctly fancyplain? (not used it this century, I forget the details:-)

can't tell you...

@FlorianMargaine no but I mean if you went texdoc fancyhdr it'll say something about that issue

@DavidCarlisle Get out of here!

8:43 PM
@egreg so rude:-)

yay! it works
thanks for directing me on the right way, people.

@DavidCarlisle That was being polite! ;-)

@egreg i was going to answer that newpage one but I had to chide barbara (who'd just complained about my spelling in another post), and by the time I'd done that you'd posted.

9:00 PM
@DavidCarlisle Appertizer? ;-)

@egreg well i was confused as I was expecting to run makeindex and some weird package configured things so it ran itself

@DavidCarlisle Never trust that kind of packages. ;-)
@DavidCarlisle They use too modern facilities such as restricted shell escape that was introduced in the 21st century.

@egreg I was actually surprised, don't think I'd used it before:-)

9:18 PM
@DavidCarlisle The idea was Claudio Beccari's. I had a very primitive implementation ready by the end of that GuITmeeting. Later on the restricted shell escape came along, making things even easier.

@Evpok Been asked many times: Python is a big blob, Lua is very small

@JosephWright I know, I know. Then again egenix.com/products/python/PyRun makes me wonder if that could have been done anyway.

@Evpok Still massive
@Evpok Also, isn't in Unix-only?

@JosephWright It is, but the same ideas could probably have been used to make a cross-platform version. Anyway I see why Lua was the best choice, but it is still annoying to work without my favourite toys :)

9:59 PM
Hey, does anyone mind verifying whether or not my issue with LuaLaTeX is localized?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{fontspec,kantlipsum}
\setmainfont{Le Monde Livre}
\begin{document}
\kant
\end{document}
I get this in my log and a damaged PDF document:
!LuaTeX error (file c:/Windows/fonts/LeMondeLivre-Normal.otf): Parsing CFF DICT
failed. (error=-1)

10:33 PM
Never mind my previous request. It appears it is localized.

10:44 PM
Is TeX.SE the appropriate place to ask a question about a localized error related to LuaLaTeX and a single specific typeface? The issue only appears on my distribution on this system. I've succesfully compiled the exact same document on my laptop, for instance.
