@cfr I see. Does that mean you're on the job market right now? If so, good luck with the process! :)

6 hours later…
8:54 AM
@DavidCarlisle oy :)

9:46 AM
hi @PauloCereda @DavidCarlisle

1 hour later…
10:47 AM
@Szabolcs I have not read up on the entire conversation for this, but using ( with shortcuts is quite a breeze, especially with the right editor. In TeXStudio (also available for Mac), you could, if you have the interest+time, try it out. The cursor would then placed in the middle of the lines. I'm sure it's possible for other editos as well.

@JosephWright, is now a good time to talk?

@PeterTaylor Fire away

I wonder whether perhaps what's needed is to make it clear that the question isn't really "How can I fix Ubuntu Precise's TexLive distro?" (it's a bit late for that - I think they're only accepting security patches now) but "How can I get my document to compile and display the correct glyphs?"

@PeterTaylor The usual solution to the latter would be 'ignore Ubuntu's TeX Live packages and install vanilla TeX Live', but I guess that's not what you wanted
@PeterTaylor Perhaps a statement more-or-less saying that?

No, I prefer to stick to the standard repos where possible rather than mix things up.
Ok, so how about I reword the question a bit and structure the answer to be clearer that this is a workaround and then ping you for feedback?

@PeterTaylor I'll undelete your answer: give me a second

2:11 PM
Ok, thanks.

@PeterTaylor Try now
@PeterTaylor One thing I do notice is that if it's a permissions thing with a 'managed' installation then it's probably an Ubuntu/Debian issue more than a TeX one

Yes, and if I were regularly dealing with lots of different scripts then I probably would want to properly debug mktextfm and work out why it needs root permissions. (Although I suspect that the true fix lies in the post-installation font update scripts of the dpm, and figuring that all out would take me a long time).

2:29 PM
How does that look now?

@PeterTaylor Fine

Great. Thanks for your help.

3:09 PM
Back from a long, long mass.

2 hours later…
4:52 PM
People enjoying their Sunday, apparently. :)

5:15 PM
@PauloCereda not necessarily, we might be too miserable to be chatting

1 hour later…
6:30 PM
@DavidCarlisle :(

@PauloCereda :-)

@DavidCarlisle Did you see a leaked image of the new Lego set? It has a Lego T-rex. :)

@PauloCereda no, but I think m was saying the other day they were planning a Jurassic theme

@DavidCarlisle I thought of getting the Lego: the movie game for Xbox, but it was very expensive, so I gave up and bought a huge pizza. :)

@PauloCereda yes lego's a bit crunchy as a meal, pizza's probably a better alternative

6:37 PM
@DavidCarlisle \let\lego\pizza :)
@JosephWright: Two chemists go into a restaurant. The first one says, "I think I'll have an H2O." The second one says, "I think I'll have an H2O too". Then he dies.
Bah, chemistry jokes. :)

7:23 PM
@PauloCereda I happened to read the joke while the radio was playing “Jesus bleibet meine Freude”. :-O

@egreg ooh! :)

7:45 PM
@PauloCereda Of course I know many jokes about hydrogen dioxide, a very dangerous material. For instance, it can weaken a car or bike braking system; it's poisonous if inhaled; it causes degradation of iron objects. And, as Venetians use to say, it rots poles.
@PauloCereda L'aqua marsise i pai in our dialect.

@egreg oh.
There's a new Dracula movie in the highlight these days. The trailer is cool.

8:12 PM
@PauloCereda There's only one Dracula.
I never drink hydrogen dioxide /with cavernous voice

@egreg Indeed. :)
@egreg LOL
I never drink <pause> <beverage>

8:32 PM
@egreg: I'm still harvesting points from the grandma answer. I wonder if David does it too. :)

8:52 PM
@PauloCereda Is azulfondo really means blue background on this one? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/204638/…

@percusse Good question: :) azulfondo sounds to me like blue background in Spanish, but little I know about this language (only azul shares the exact word in Portuguese, which is blue).

@PauloCereda not today but I picked up some for the plane

@PauloCereda OK we'll see whether I've slayed another niceness opportunity with my ignorance.

@DavidCarlisle ooh gotta love those airplanes. :)
@percusse You did a great job on discovering that word, it's quite trick for non-hispanics. :)

Well blue fondue gave this
so either blue font or blue background

9:00 PM
@percusse LOL pretty accurate. :)
fondo is quite similar to fundo in Portuguese, which means back, background. :)

We need a unicode language
this is too complicated

@percusse Unicode is the Esperanto that went right. :P

Or a Klingon conspiracy

@percusse ooh! :)
@percusse: @David is our Unicode expert. :)

@PauloCereda I think if there is this thing called Iexplore.exe this 🐮💩 would exist forever
If you don't believe me I submit to you this

9:06 PM
I discovered a package with no \newcommand: all internal macros are defined with \DeclareRobustCommand and then used in the code of \newenvironment. Simply crazy. Every day a new TeX pearl. ;-)

@percusse vvv
2001-3 Klingon Script 2001-May-21
Proposal to encode the Klingon script. L2/97-273, L2/01-212.
Disposition: 2001-May-21, rejected by the UTC as inappropriate for encoding, for multiple reasons stated in L2/01-212. (Lack of evidence of usage in published literature, lack of organized community interest in its standardization, no resolution of potential trademark and copyright issues, question about its status as a cipher rather than a script, and so on.) References to UTC Minutes: [87-M3], [87-A15]

@DavidCarlisle Does [87-M3] equal to a few seconds in Earth time?

@percusse romulan

I don't want to spoil the joke but I really need to watch Star Trek
On my defense I watched 1 and 2 of Star Wars.
Or 5,6
The old two
The oldest two
ok never mind

9:13 PM
@percusse New hope and Empire strikes back then. :)
@percusse Natalie Portman sucks.

@DavidCarlisle And, of course, kli.org

@PauloCereda The Luke Skywalker ones.... Pfff George Lucas is a stupid person who can't even count .

@percusse he can count money

other than money for which I think he uses a ca
.....
:)

@percusse: did I tell you you are now in charge of the graphics on the arara manual? :)

9:20 PM
@PauloCereda I think now you did <:)

@percusse lotsa money, sir! :)

Why don't you just take snapshots of any ornithology catalogue and call it a manual

Foreword by David Carlisle
@percusse I have one, surprinsingly. :P

@PauloCereda I would think so

@percusse :)

9:57 PM
@percusse I remember you recommended me a GREAT forum for any questions I might have in regard to typography, but I lost my bookmarks and so I lost the link to that forum. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about?

@1010011010 Typophile?

@TorbjørnT. Oh, yeah, seems to be it.
Thanks.

Does anyone know of a digital rendition of the Lutitia Italic font? leadgraffiti.com/about/type/luticia-italic-720.gif
