@IbnSaeed The idea is you can put a set of comments in your source to specify how to compile it, so effectively something like 'run LaTeX then BibTeX then MakeIndex then LaTeX twice' or whatever.
I read somewhere on this cite before that instead writing f:A \to B it is better to write f "something" A \to B, so what is that command instead : ? I can't remember

I'm trying to format a quotation in an article with \begin{quotation} quote \end{quotation}, but the text isn't showing up in the compiled document and I'm not getting any errors or warnings from xelatex during the compilation. Any ideas?
@Gregory I think we'd need more of a clue as to what's happening. as always helps to make an example, take a copy of the document and delete stuff until its small enough to post. \endinput before the quotation would have that effect for example

What do you guys use to type equations? Just a plain text editor, or something a bit more efficient? Today I must type a very large number of equations, and it's extremely slow and tedious. I very much wish I had just done the whole thing on paper and scanned it ... if only I had a more readable handwriting.
I also wonder if there's anything to convert handwriting to LaTeX on Windows. Windows 7 had built-in math-handwriting recognition and I think it produces MathML. Not that I would use it: at the moment I have neither a Windows machine nor a touchscreen or other handwriting friendly device.

@Szabolcs depends what you are used to, but really with reasonable command completion etc typing an equation shouldn't be a lot more effort than typing plain text

@Szabolcs you might once you have \( x+ \mbox{ nested \(x\)} + x\) expressions and you wished you (or your editor) could mach what starts and ends what math section:-)
@Jun-GooKwak \[ is same as \begin{equation} except that the latter adds an equation number. Never use either of them one after another, if you need a multiline display use one of the ams environments such as align or multline
