@Nasser Well, MathJaX is not LaTeX, sorry, I can't help you

12:11 AM
@DavidCarlisle The classics example doesn't work for me (same error). I just updated earlier today.

12:35 AM
@AlanMunn @Joseph probably broke something:(

@DavidCarlisle My thoughts exactly. :)

@AlanMunn doing an update --all now....

@PauloCereda :-) I think you could have got away with decision problem ;-)

Q: Is there any benefit for users having high reputation and no question?

Stiff JokesConsider some users with high reputation but without any question. IMHO, I think every people in the world has problem to be asked to others. So the questions are Do they really have no problem to be asked? Or is it just one of some other aspects they want to compete with each other? Why don't...

Also I have a new favorite comment directed at me

@StephanLehmke but @PauloCereda likes to use big German words:-)

@DavidCarlisle Then he should use "Habseligkeiten" more, which was voted the finest German word and in addition, pronouncing it correctly probably proves one can speak German perfectly ;-)
For some reason unknown to me, "Entscheidungsproblem" seems not to have been on the list.

@DavidCarlisle <3
Ack from São Paulo. :)

11:08 AM
@JosephWright Regarding tex.stackexchange.com/questions/152612/…, here's a small test file that shows the problem
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{expl3}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\seq_new:N \l_test_a_seq
\seq_new:N \l_test_b_seq
\seq_set_split:Nnn \l_test_a_seq {} {abc}
\seq_set_split:Nnn \l_test_b_seq {} {ABCDEF}

\cs_new_protected:Npn \test_func:nn #1 #2
 {
  \tl_show:n {First~is~#1,~Second~is~#2}
 }

\seq_mapthread_function:NNN \l_test_a_seq \l_test_b_seq \test_func:nn
If one runs it, the first iteration shows First is \__seq_item:n , Second is \__seq_item:n which is surely not what's wanted.

11:25 AM
@JosephWright I see that \seq_mapthread_function:NNN has been changed, and a but has been introduced. :(

12:08 PM
@egreg I'll take a look later on: things very busy at work!
@egreg I think I know which checkin this will be caused by
@egreg Yup, I know what caused this. I'll fix it this evening and update CTAN.

1:15 PM
@JosephWright Good! A missing \expandafter, it seems. ;-)

1:28 PM
@egreg Fix checked in, need to write a testfile then do a CTAN update

@JosephWright Thanks!!!

2:13 PM
hi folks, do you know how to solve it?

Q: How to prevent someone from blocking me to access the router control panel?

Stiff JokesI am a network administrator of a school. I have a privilege to login to the router control panel with the credential I have. A naughty user is running an application on his own computer connected to the network and the application makes the router busy. As a result, I cannot login to the router ...

Either I don't understand the table, or the leading dates should be 2014:

@StephanLehmke Yup, looks like copy-paste typos :-)

Also, it seems like TUG 2012 and TUG 2013 took place at the same date. Very time-efficient ;-)
Is there a (date for a) UK-TUG meeting this year?

2:31 PM
@StephanLehmke Not yet: typically a Saturday in October, but depends on me booking it!

3 hours later…

@JosephWright I forgot to tell you that I used l3fp sqrt in an answer. :)

@egreg did it work?

@JosephWright Ok, done... but probably to late for @PauloCereda's awesome arara feature ;)

@AndrewStacey Hey Andrew. Since you're a proficient git user, I was wondering whether you host your course material on Github or Bitbucket... Do you?
@AndrewStacey If you do, can you tell me a bit about your workflow? In particular, how do you manage your output files (visible to any visitor) compared to your input files (which I presume should only be visible to you, the author)?

@cgnieder Great: names are accumulating

No watch? No clock? The following might help. But please focus only on the numbers:

Q: Stretch mathematical symbols in mathmode

LukasFor an exercise I have to stretch the summation and other symbols vertically like As you see does the size not change horizontally. Any suggestions on how to do this? I've been looking for quite some time now :/ *note I don't have the code of this picture the exercise is about finding out ho...

Q: \alsoaffiliation undefined control sequence with \documentclass{comjnl}

mirxI have a problem with \documentclass{comjnl}. I'm writing the first page and have a problem with authors labels. I have 4 authors, and I would like two have to labels for the second and the third author (author, lab 1,2). Heres my *.tex file: \documentclass{comjnl} \title{Title} \author{Autho...

What is there to say?

10:02 PM
@cgnieder Yay! :)
@JosephWright "What document class name is that?!" :)

@PauloCereda What should I do? Solve the exercise?
@JosephWright I left a comment. Acting on the internals of the class is surely the wrong thing to do.

@egreg Leave it to the reader? :)

@PauloCereda That's the problem. The reader is apparently not able to solve it.

@AlanMunn: do you drink tereré?
@egreg Ouch. :(

10:38 PM
Is it possible to apply macros to elements of a csv file after import by datatool? Or whatever the correct terminology is? Like suppose I want to apply the macro \foo to each element in some column.

@PauloCereda No. I think you asked me this before. But I'm not much of a mate drinker either, although that's more because there's someone here who needs it more than me...

@FaheemMitha Where's @NicolaTalbot when we need her?

@egreg So, that's a "don't know"? I thought you knew everything. :-)

@FaheemMitha Not about datatool.

@egreg bummer

10:42 PM
@FaheemMitha ask him something simpler, say about white space and line ends

@AlanMunn Oh yeah, you are right. :) I remember you told me about chimarrão, but I wasn't sure about tereré. :) I have one guampa nearby, since it's very hot. Mum prepared some cold mate tea, but I still prefer the raw cold mate. :)

@DavidCarlisle Or about stretching summation symbols

@DavidCarlisle For example, why is white space white?

@egreg the result looks spectacularly horrible (I'm sure the code is lovely:-)

@DavidCarlisle Well, that's what the OP wanted.

10:43 PM
@FaheemMitha because if it were blue it would be called blue space.

@DavidCarlisle Good answer.

@egreg You should have told him to find another assignment

@DavidCarlisle Is “shpuld” some Yiddish word?

@egreg yps

@FaheemMitha What exactly do you want to do?

10:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle Once a philosopher friend of mine tried to explain that the answer to why does it rain? is because it rains. So I think that whitespace is white because it's white, which kinda supports your train of thought. :)

@AlanMunn I've got a column which uses a macro round a string e.g. \foo{sometext}. I don't think I can stick the macro in directly to the csv file, right?
So the alternative is to apply the macro aftet importing the csv file.

@FaheemMitha why not in the column definition >{\foo}

Unless I'm missing something. I probably need to put a MWE on the site if that is not clear.

@PauloCereda Quid est enim tempus? (© St. Augustine)

@DavidCarlisle Oh, is that an option? Hmm.
@egreg Translation?

10:47 PM
@FaheemMitha with care:-)

@egreg :)

@FaheemMitha So, what is time?

@egreg a mode of thought
I read that somewhere

@FaheemMitha What it is love time? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more...
:)

@PauloCereda No idea what love time is.

10:48 PM
@FaheemMitha You can put markup into the CSV file if you read it using \DTLloadrawdb.

@FaheemMitha Apparently my joke got lost. Oh well. :)

@AlanMunn Ah, I'll give that a try.
But tomorrow.

This will stop datatool from escaping %$&#_{}~^ (no, I'm not swearing) :)

Hmm, don't see it here. i have 2.03
maybe out of date.
no, its there

@FaheemMitha Mine is 2.18

10:50 PM
@AlanMunn I see. Thanks.

@AlanMunn Naughty boy. :)

@PauloCereda Of course a perfect translation of that sentence would be "This will stop datatool from escaping shit.". :)

@AlanMunn Actually, from the description, it looks like \DTLloadrawdb just typesets those symbols.

@AlanMunn LOL

This is the same as \DTLloaddb except that it maps nine of the ten special charac-
ters onto commands which produce that symbol. The only character that retains
its active state is the backslash character, so you will still need to check the file
for backslash characters. The mappings used are listed in Table 1.

10:53 PM
\usepackage[alpacino]{babel}

actually, looks like

@FaheemMitha Ah you're right, I had it backwards. "When using \DTLloaddb all the special characters that appear in the command retain their LATEX meaning when the file is loaded." So then you can put markup in without any trouble.

The file used in the above example contained a L TEX command, namely \".
When using \DTLloaddb all the special characters that appear in the command
A
retain their L TEX meaning when the file is loaded.
maybe i can just use it directly. i'll try again. it didn't seem to work when i did it

@JosephWright: OMG :)

@PauloCereda OK, that's weird.
