would welcome advice concerning bad boxes in this answer:

A: Turning tikz frames on and off

cfrThis provides both commands and a key-value interface to turn frames on and off. Chapter titles are shown in headers by default in book, so if they do not show up for you, either you are using starred chapters and not issuing marks manually or something in code we've not seen is suppressing them,...

@cfr \raggedbottom ?

@DavidCarlisle thanks. I don't really understand why I need that here. it's as if the text doesn't 'count', so I get infinitely-bad boxes on every page, but I don't really get why.
9:25 PM
@cfr you always get infinitely bad boxes on a page with just text if the page height - \topskip isn't an exact multiple of \baselineskip if you have flushbottom

@DavidCarlisle i see. er ... so shouldn't I almost always get infinitely bad boxes in most documents, in that case?
I do appreciate the fix - I just don't really see what's so particular about this document.
why don't I get bad boxes on the pages without frames?

@cfr as I say I didn't really trace but the default text height is designed to avoid the issue, presumably the size inside the frame is different

@DavidCarlisle the text is just typeset the way it is on the other pages. only a frame is drawn around it in shipout/background. so \textheight is precisely the same on pages with and without frames.
@cfr error yes,my analysis isn't right but at this time of night I don't care, it's not far off as flushbottom made the warnings go, but the details a bit off,probably as I guessed the answer just from the warnings and haven't looked at the code in detail

@DavidCarlisle fair enough ;). and, actually, I don't think the frames have any effect at all. so the badness isn't my fault and I can not care too.
