Strange question: how does one figure out which package or bundle a binary program in TL2022 comes from? Such that one can remove that particular package/bundle.

Q: How to search with tlmgr?

topskipI have installed TeX Live 2019 on Unix (macOS 10.14). Now there are some packages, which I forgot to install. For example, I'd like to have otfinfo (the binary). How can I find out, which package I need to install with tlmgr? tlmgr search otfinfo gives no result.

E.g.
(base) joseph@palladium siunitx % tlmgr search --global --file siunitx.sty
tlmgr: package repository anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/CTAN/systems/texlive/tlnet (verified)
luatexja:
	texmf-dist/tex/luatex/luatexja/patches/lltjp-siunitx.sty
lwarp:
	texmf-dist/tex/latex/lwarp/lwarp-common-mathjax-siunitx.sty
	texmf-dist/tex/latex/lwarp/lwarp-lltjp-siunitx.sty
	texmf-dist/tex/latex/lwarp/lwarp-siunitx.sty
plautopatch:
	texmf-dist/tex/latex/plautopatch/plsiunitx.sty
siunitx:
	texmf-dist/tex/latex/siunitx/siunitx.sty

I use the CLI a lot and histretch disturbs my tab completion. I've never heard of histretch and would probably never use it.

@AlanMunn I haven't found the solution yet but there is a spurios space after \stepcounter{fadcnt} in \fadingtext definition

tlmgr search --global histretch
tlmgr: package repository https://mirrors.dotsrc.org/ctan/systems/texlive/tlnet (verified)
not much info there
Ahh it's hitex
--file helped
So do I want to remove hitex

@daleif What do you mean by tab completion? How can a binary disturb something?

6:55 AM
@UlrikeFischer Adds itself to bash, etc.

@UlrikeFischer type his hit TAB and if there is only one command in the PATH starting with his then it completes it. I do believe that Windows also supports it,

@daleif Yup

Had to look up plautopatch before I realised that it said pl-auto-patch, ok makes sense

7:40 AM
@daleif ah, I never tried that. I don't get it in the win10 command line, there I have tab completion only for file names. In the git bash it works. I will try in win11 later.

8:20 AM
siunitx release today :)

@JosephWright understaning ... (and in l3pdf.dtx I such saw \g_@@_obejct_prop)
@JosephWright umluated ?

@UlrikeFischer Fixed
@UlrikeFischer Feels right to me: a letter bearing an umlaut is 'umlauted'
@UlrikeFischer Specific case of 'accented' :)

@JosephWright yes but lau not lua

@UlrikeFischer Ah, yes: fixed

@JosephWright Lcukily

9:03 AM
@UlrikeFischer Also fixed

9:20 AM
@UlrikeFischer Overall article useful?

@JosephWright firefox makes a surprisingly bad job of the combining character

@DavidCarlisle I know :(
@DavidCarlisle Might be the font?
@DavidCarlisle ^^^ Fine in my editor

Spın̈al Tap Spın̈al Tap

@DavidCarlisle broken using Verdana

@JosephWright here the monospace is OK but the main font even worse

9:31 AM
@JosephWright ^^^ bengali text and tl mapping

@DavidCarlisle That is odd
@UlrikeFischer :)

@JosephWright yes sure.
@JosephWright something for your article ;-)

@UlrikeFischer Send me the source?

@JosephWright already on the road.

@UlrikeFischer I'll add another paragraph in a bit, then :)

9:52 AM
@JosephWright you can also use it only for tugboat.

10:21 AM
@UlrikeFischer I've added in to the blog

10:33 AM
@JosephWright just took a look at texdev, and I must note: The dates are pretty far away from the title of the blogposts (at least for me on FF105), if it wasn't for the first/last entries I'd think the dates belong to the above posts, not the ones below.

@Skillmon I'll see if I can adjust that

@JosephWright next thing, you lost an \e in A 'new' primitive: xpanded

@Skillmon Where's that?

@JosephWright the \e is actually there, but results in the non-printable "escaped" e, not in backlash+e

10:49 AM
@Skillmon Fixed

10:59 AM
@Skillmon Working on it

2 hours later…
12:50 PM
@Skillmon Try now

1 hour later…
1:52 PM
@JosephWright much better! :)

2:04 PM
Hi guys

@MartinScharrer Hello

I am thinking about to do some work on the conversion feature of standalone.
Kick out deprecated ImageMagick and support some more formats like SVG, EMF.
Unfortunatly Ghostscript does not support SVG and EMF.
I am planning to add code for Inkscape which is available for free under Linux und Windows.

2:43 PM
@MartinScharrer is it deprecated? I know they changed the command structure magic ... rather than just ... but I still use it:-) What would be useful would be if you could get at least some of the conversions not needing --shell-escape (just as we can do eps2pdf in restricted mode)

3:00 PM
@DavidCarlisle Not sure if it is official deprecated, but last time I checked PDF support was disabled by default for security reasons. It got also forked to GraphicsMagick.
Also with enabled PDF support it uses Ghostscript in the background for it.
So in scripts it is better to use Ghostscript directly.
`>gm convert file.pdf file.png`
`gm convert: No decode delegate for this image format (file.pdf)`
GraphicsMagick seems to also have the PDF support disabled by default

3:26 PM
@UlrikeFischer If you have some time could you upload a lualibs release? The pushed a new import to main but I have no idea who is actually allowed to upload there.

@MarcelKrüger oh we moved it to latex3 github, but left the public maintainer as lualatex-dev, seems wrong ?

@MarcelKrüger did you try to upload and got rejected?

@UlrikeFischer No, I looked at the maintainers list, decided that it's obviously out of date and reverted to asking the one person I know can upload releases...

@MarcelKrüger ;-). As far as I can see you already did all the steps in buildinfo.txt? Tagged and copy etc?

Right, the only thing missing should be to run l3build ctan and actually uploading.

3:37 PM
@MarcelKrüger We should make sure this is clear to CTAN

@MarcelKrüger I can do that, and I will tell ctan to change to the team and to add the team as maintainer. Did you run the luaotfload tests with the new lualibs?

@UlrikeFischer Thanks. I did and they failed locally, but they failed in exactly the same way as the old lualibs due to font version differences. So that counts as passing I guess...

@MarcelKrüger documentation fails because hyperref is not loaded ;-( Can I blame Frank for change in doc?

@UlrikeFischer Who needs documentation anyway? :P

3:59 PM
@MarcelKrüger I imported the new lualibs into the support texmf. I get only three failures: luacolor and luatex-ja got some glue more, that is probably LaTeX, and one of the emoji test fails. I think that is ok. I will also push the luaotfload branch.

@UlrikeFischer IIRC these failures don't appear on the CI (yet). Let's see.

@MarcelKrüger uploaded

@PauloCereda push them in to pies

@DavidCarlisle oh no

1 hour later…
6:12 PM
@CarLaTeX yummy

@DavidCarlisle it would be even better with some duck instead of ham.

6:27 PM
@UlrikeFischer we should get @CarLaTeX to try both versions and adjudicate

@DavidCarlisle Oh no!

@UlrikeFischer oh no

@DavidCarlisle she could invite Paulo and we all look

6:55 PM
@PauloCereda ohh!

7:08 PM
Sooooo are all my 500+ previously saved bookmarks now gone?

@LaTeXereXeTaL ??

@JosephWright The previous bookmark facility is now called "Saves" and it appears that all my previous bookmarks have now vanished. I knew about the change, but I didn't expect it to wipe out what I had already saved. Am I missing something?
Just found this. I think I'm okay. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/382019/…

@LaTeXereXeTaL do you find the system useful? I have never used it

7:40 PM
@DavidCarlisle Very useful! I bookmarked ALL your questions! :P

@samcarter excellent plan
