@barbarabeeton That Github account also seems to be inactive.
@barbarabeeton TeX Live doesn't seem to have a similar section. Or if there is one, I haven't come across it.

1 hour later…
7:35 AM
@barbarabeeton Thank you
@FaheemMitha I did create an issue, just in case.

@Circumscribe isn't that a copy of issue 1?? also eek why did you suggest countdef?
@FaheemMitha doesn't need one, a package being obsolete at ctan is taken into consideration when they decide whether or not to include it in texlive

@DavidCarlisle Issue #1 is about a different register that causes a different problem.
@DavidCarlisle Issue #1 is about a different register that causes a different problem.
@DavidCarlisle It's the minimal change that would solve the problem. Would you prefer e.g. a \newcount?

@Circumscribe so it is sorry, better have an issue 3: soul shouldn't use any numbered registers:-)
@Circumscribe it just moves the problem from 0 to 8 which makes it less likely to occur but fundamentally no different

@DavidCarlisle Or we can make a separate issue for every register used :D
@DavidCarlisle Fair enough, I'll change it.
@DavidCarlisle: My understanding was that (apart from \count0), the low even registers were mostly safe.

7:51 AM
@Circumscribe there is nothing built in to count0 that makes it special it's just got the page number by default but if an output routine messed with count8 you would see the same
@Circumscribe when there were only 256 count registers it was worth the risk, to save allocating one, but now there are 32 thousand of them you can spare an allocation

@DavidCarlisle What if someone wants to use soul without eTex? :)

8:08 AM
@DavidCarlisle that is one of my secret tests ;-)

@UlrikeFischer, I finally got a simple radio button group working!

8:34 AM
@UlrikeFischer, BTW \__pdf_backend_catalog_gput:nn doesn't seem to work with xelatex. Does that sound right?

@Circumscribe Ok. Thank you.
@DavidCarlisle I see.

@Circumscribe it's a latex package so that isn't possible
@DavidPurton what programme was on the radio? :-)

@DavidCarlisle Currently ABC Jazz actually
Although my daughters have … something … else in the background

@DavidCarlisle “Although the package is optimized for LATEX2ε, it also works with Plain TEX and with other flavors of TEX like, for instance, ConTEXt.”

@Circumscribe reading documentation is cheating, I refuse to take part in this conversation.

8:39 AM
@DavidCarlisle Aww :( / :)

@DavidPurton well you shouldn't use commands starting with \__, they are for internal use only. But can you show me the code? Then I will check.

@UlrikeFischer There's no front end version of it yet
But it's definition looks sane

@DavidPurton there is (but not in l3pdf). What do you want to add to the catalog?

Oooo. It does work. Just not in my code

@UlrikeFischer do you see anything familiar here?

8:51 AM
@UlrikeFischer, compare this with pdflatex and xelatex:

\documentclass{article}
\pagestyle{empty}
\usepackage{l3pdf}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\pdf_uncompress:
\pdf_object_new:nn { acroform } { dict }
\pdf_object_write:nx { acroform } { }
\__pdf_backend_catalog_gput:nn
  { AcroForm }
  { \pdf_object_ref:n { acroform } }
\ExplSyntaxOff
\begin{document}
\null
\end{document}

@DavidCarlisle you have some secret access. I still get errors ;-(

hmm. The object doesn't event get written to the file.

@DavidPurton you must correctly expand the argument. with pdflatex it is done by the backend command, but you can not rely on it. So use
\exp_args:Nnx
\__pdf_backend_catalog_gput:nn

Ta
That could also be done by generating a variant?

@DavidPurton yes, but for backend commands which are used only once to define the real command I would normally not define a variant.
@DavidPurton can you show the code?

@DavidCarlisle ^^^ everything is there ...

@UlrikeFischer I hope it's not a timed game if he has to change his jumper every move

9:44 AM
@DavidCarlisle that is the new social distancing game variant ;-)

@UlrikeFischer, here's my current test code. It's pretty good in Google Chrome, Evince is OK, but the text is not great. Mac OS, doesn't seem to resize the text in the multi-line text field.

\documentclass{article}

\pagestyle{empty}

\usepackage{xparse}
\usepackage{l3pdf}

\ExplSyntaxOn

\pdf_uncompress:

% # begin l3pdf extensions (pdflatex and lualatex only)

\cs_new_protected:Npn \__dcp_pdf_catalog_gput:nn #1#2
  { \exp_args:Nnx \__pdf_backend_catalog_gput:nn {#1} {#2} }

% ## l3pdf annotation extentsion

9:58 AM
@JosephWright do you know why beamer suppress the "unused global option" message?

@UlrikeFischer ER, no, probably Till thought it was a waste of time
@UlrikeFischer Doesn't everything get passed to hyperref anyway

@UlrikeFischer it probably doesn't work well if you are passing k=v arguments on to underlying packages

10:24 AM
@DavidCarlisle I'm not sure, the koma classes pass key-value to their subpackages too and don't loose the message. It looks more as if the special option code from beamer didn't care.

@JosephWright @UlrikeFischer @barbarabeeton I have pushed the examples gallery to learnlatex but left that one using texlive2017 for now

10:47 AM
@DavidCarlisle nice, I was wondering if some music can be shown, as lilypond would not work.

11:02 AM
@UlrikeFischer ooh Lilypond

11:21 AM
Hi there

@BambOo Try the following example to see why I'm not a big fan of normal text.bg:
\documentclass{beamer}

\usetheme{Frankfurt}
\setbeamercolor{normal text}{bg=red}

\begin{document}

\begin{frame}
test
\begin{block}{}
Some text in a beamercolorbox with parameter sep=30pt. The text is separated 30 pt from the border of the box, as expected. Now comes an enumeration:
\begin{enumerate}
\item First list item. First list item. First list item. First list item. First list item.
\item Second list item. Second list item. Second list item. Second list item. Second list item.
\end{enumerate}

@MartinScharrer Hi Martin!

I now started a TikZ based package to draw schemetics of beehives.
For my beekeeping hobby mostly

@MartinScharrer ooh
@MartinScharrer mandatory reference: youtube.com/watch?v=OGFz9gt0-Fc :)

I also made a turning calender for the bee development (in German):

11:33 AM
@MartinScharrer WOW

You print both out and stick them over each other. Then you can turn them to any date to see e.g. when the queen will hatch etc.

1 hour later…
12:35 PM
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz, it is ugly indeed !
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz by the way, would you happen to know where the frames shown in the beameruserguide are stored ? I tried to search for the names called with \pgfimage e.g beamerugthemePittsburgh in the beamer source directory from CTAN but I could not find those files

1:25 PM
@BambOo If one builds the userguide with l3build, then a folder /build/doc/ will be created where all these files will be generated
@BambOo I think this justifies calling metropolis "strange" :)
@BambOo If you try to build the userguide, you will probably need the complete files from github.com/josephwright/beamer as ctan does not has all the necessary files

boo

2:09 PM
Don't worry @PauloCereda, you can just put this in your preamble:

% Uncomment as fashions change
% \renewcommand{\familydefault}{\sfdefault}
% \renewcommand{\familydefault}{\rmdefault}

@DavidPurton ooh :)

2:43 PM
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz Er, it should have all the files: I better fix that

yo'
3:26 PM
@PauloCereda \textsf{BOO}!

@yo' ooh

3:46 PM
@JosephWright I think lppl.tex is only available in github.com/josephwright/beamer/tree/master/texmf/tex/latex/… but I don't see it on ctan

4:12 PM
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz It's going to re-appear in the main LaTeX distribution: it got 'lost' by accident

4:54 PM
@JosephWright 👍

4 hours later…
8:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle I added some translations, but I have no real idea what to do with "unicode engines" and how to call the "more on...". I will think about it tormorrow again.

8:41 PM
@UlrikeFischer -- would "more about" make more sense for translation?

@barbarabeeton the problem are not the words, but to decide how to name it. I'm thinking about "Extra Lektion zu ...."

@UlrikeFischer -- That makes sense to me, but admittedly, my sense of proper German technical style is shaky.

9:06 PM
@UlrikeFischer thanks
@UlrikeFischer I sneaked in some extra files after mailing you for the fixed texts like "next lesson" that get added to each page
$ ls -l de/includes/
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 davidc NAGNTD+Group(513) 30 May 23 20:13 more.html
-rw-r--r-- 1 davidc NAGNTD+Group(513) 19 May 23 20:20 next.html
-rw-r--r-- 1 davidc NAGNTD+Group(513) 24 May 23 20:20 nextmain.html
-rw-r--r-- 1 davidc NAGNTD+Group(513) 29 May 23 20:23 return.html

@DavidCarlisle hm. I need an idea how to translate main lesson ;-).

@UlrikeFischer whatever means back to where you just came from in this context:-)
@UlrikeFischer Hauptlektion :-) (I'm told:-)

@DavidCarlisle yes I just decided to use this.

@UlrikeFischer I shouldn't have bothered with you and just used google translate:-)

1 hour later…
@PauloCereda im on 78:-)

@DavidCarlisle ooh

1 hour later…
11:47 PM
@PauloCereda Hola don pato :)
@PauloCereda Query , in the dvisvgm rule of arara, what should I add for it to accept .xdv?
