Happy TeXmas to everybody!

2 hours later…
9:21 AM
Merry Christmas!
2

@PauloCereda /quacks for joy

@JosephWright ooh duck celebration

9:43 AM
Then you start hearing Céline Dion singing again... oh no

10:26 AM
@PauloCereda Christmas dinner!

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@DavidCarlisle Happy Christmas!

@JosephWright partridges on pear trees

@DavidCarlisle Noto Color Emoji glyphs should be replaced by images and the font should not be used at the end (because LuaTeX won’t know how to handle that font), so I guess something is failing here. Possibly the shaper is not actually used.

So, who's up for Christmas Day TeX programming :)
I know I am: I really do need to finish siunitx v3
Also the deprecations for expl3

10:40 AM
@DavidCarlisle That is broken as well, so I don’t know what is going on.

@JosephWright I am working on a secret project
2

@PauloCereda :)

Merry Christmas to all of you and your loved ones.
@ChristianHupfer No I don't :( or even from Sicily. I am a traditionalist. I like default avatars.

11:03 AM
@Sebastiano Sigh... see identicon.net

11:14 AM
@KhaledHosny I just applied Akira's patch an the noto emoji now works:
@DavidCarlisle ^^^^
@KhaledHosny which luaotfload version are you using? A development version?

@UlrikeFischer no ducks :(

@UlrikeFischer Yes, the development branch from GitHub repo

@KhaledHosny That's probably the reason that it doesn't work for @DavidCarlisle. The changes to the mode key are only there. I'm actually using a even newer version. I will try to merge today or tomorrow the last changes and update the dev branch so that we have all the same state.

@UlrikeFischer That explains it, thanks!

11:30 AM
@PauloCereda oh sorry.

@UlrikeFischer ah :)
@UlrikeFischer OH MY

11:53 AM
@KhaledHosny If one do something like \fontspec{Noto Color Emoji}[Scale=2] abc one get a fatal error:
! error:  (file XXX/fonts/truetype/NotoColorE
moji.ttf) (type 2): there are no glyphs in the subset
! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
Could one avoid this and get some notdef char instead?

@UlrikeFischer That is actually because you are getting a notdef glyph, but LuaTeX does not know how to subset this font. For Google-style emoji fonts I need to make sure no glyph nodes ever end up having that font id.
@UlrikeFischer Please open an issue on GitHub so I don’t forget to do this.

12:53 PM
@KhaledHosny I'll try again later with the luaotfload from github

1:12 PM
@DavidCarlisle there are currently quite a number of branches (I had to sort out the problem with the missing unicode library ...). The newest is v2.9405-chr-2018-12-07, and I'm planing to import this afternoon the newest context code in v2.9406.... So try one of this branches.

@UlrikeFischer may not get time today so I'll sync up this evening, let me know then if you want me to use a branch

@DavidCarlisle will do. Grumpf my travis test failed as I again forget to install the needed packages. One really shouldn't add new tests ;-((.

1:55 PM
@UlrikeFischer The duck choir is great! My favourite however is the Santa Hat of the bear!

@samcarter He is quite proud of it ;-)

@UlrikeFischer ^^^ his cousin :)

2:48 PM
@samcarter nice blue shoes ;-)

1 hour later…
3:50 PM
@ChristianHupfer I have seen your suggestion for create avatar. :). There's no doubt: the ones created by the site are the most beautiful. I've seen more on the internet. I send you my best regards and best wishes.

4:22 PM
@marmot I think a big portion is just the beforementioned language barrier. You might want to take a look at en.wikibooks.org/w/…
Both users could just be the very same person.
@Sebastiano My avatar was created by github.
@Marmot Of course, there might be a thing we can all agree with -> youtube.com/watch?v=TXpkttGcG5I

@Johannes_B I just had too many interesting experiences in the recent time. Always the same pattern, an outrageous statement followed by several attempts to justify it. I've not seen a single time something that seems to indicate that he would take the opinions of others seriously, or even consider the possibility that others have a point. But really there is no point in dragging others into that.

@marmot I have seen this before. Haken dran und gut ;-)

@Johannes_B Yes. It's just that, after I stood up to the attacks on meta, I got zillions of extra comments elsewhere. Anyway, a new year is coming.

@marmot @Johannes_B During my hiatus I seem to have missed some S-bashing

@ChristianHupfer What are you referring to specifically?

4:37 PM
@ChristianHupfer Don't worry about it. You were the first to name it: a witch hunt. (Everybody knows there are no witches, they all got burned in the middle ages. ;-)

@marmot I can point you to some living persons that must be witches/warlocks and yet nobody has put them on the stake to warm them up ;-)

@marmot A witch hunt ... the most beautiful witch hunt we have ever seen. So beautiful. Believe me.

@ChristianHupfer Probably climate considerations play a role: you can no longer make big fires. ;-)
@Johannes_B Johannes B Trumpf?

@marmot Sí

@DavidCarlisle okay the newest branch is now github.com/u-fischer/luaotfload/tree/v2.9406-chr-2018-12-19. Unless some error pops up it will hopefully be the next official luaotfload.

1 hour later…
5:49 PM
@UlrikeFischer nothing works now:-)

@DavidCarlisle ;-(. What happened?

@UlrikeFischer something about tags, see log vvv

@DavidCarlisle oh, I didn't try yet with luahbtex, only the normal luatex. Will check.
@DavidCarlisle it works for me. You have slightly different messages from the harf code, did you get the newest from luahbtex-harf?

@UlrikeFischer well it was updated this morning let me check..

@DavidCarlisle and I'm using a slightly different test file preamble (to avoid that mode=node is used):
\ExplSyntaxOn
\keys_define:nn {fontspec-renderer}
 {
  Renderer / harf .code:n =
   {
      \tl_set:Nx \l_fontspec_mode_tl {harf}
      \tl_gset:Nx \g__fontspec_single_feat_tl { mode=harf }
   }
 }

\ExplSyntaxOff
\directlua{dofile("harf-luaotfload.lua")}
%\defaultfontfeatures{RawFeature={mode=harf}}
\defaultfontfeatures{Renderer=harf}

6:00 PM
@UlrikeFischer oh actually i think I got it working (I deleted the lua font cache directory) is that normally required after a luaotfload change?
I's taking a long time thinking about page [8] for some reason...

@DavidCarlisle well "normally" it works on its own, but with all this test engines ...
@DavidCarlisle wait. That is the notoserif font (it took imho 5 minutes for me, but it is only once).
@DavidCarlisle and one need a 64bit engine, with 32 it doesn't work at all (large font ...).

@KhaledHosny ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I am the one second from the right

@DavidCarlisle there is the fork for the duck missing ...

@DavidCarlisle :)

@KhaledHosny so that is with a self-compiled cygwin luahbtex, and your test-latex test file, and @UlrikeFischer's latest luaotfload
@KhaledHosny don't encourage the trolls ducks

@KhaledHosny I have avoided that essential update so far:-)

Now that bearded guy is more like me.
@DavidCarlisle Your loss

Happy christmas fellas!!
2

6:32 PM
@Raaja In the US you are supposed to say "Happy Holidays". ;-)

It is neither Christmas nor holidays around here :)

7:03 PM
@marmot I agree though, but I got to celebrate it when I am awake :D
especially during the holidays ;)
@KhaledHosny Too bad, but you can still enjoy the holidays :D (I hope)
sorry (then enjoy the new year atleast) @KhaledHosny

@Raaja No, I did not want to criticize your wording. Not at all. I am always a bit irritated about the discrepancy between what "political correctness" suggests and what really happens below the surface.

@marmot I didnot get offended ;) dont worry it's the time for fun :D
@marmot And, the last part that is something else :/
@khaled
@KhaledHosny Nice ducks btw.

@Raaja Well, on the one hand one cannot show pictures of the Bavarian Alps in public because they have crosses on the top. On the other hand, when driving through Utah one sees all the advertisements which say that evolution theory is wrong. ;-)

@Raaja It was a light joke, the Coptic church observes Christmas in 7th of January, and end of the year is not a holidays season in Egypt :)

@marmot sad but true. @KhaledHosny I did not knew that, sorry! In this case, have my advanced wishes ;)

7:25 PM
Merry Christmas to those who are celebrating!

@AlanMunn Diplomatically put :) and same to you as well.

@KhaledHosny as you wish ^

@DavidCarlisle :D

@DavidCarlisle if you move the duck a bit to the left ...

@UlrikeFischer @PauloCereda improved version

7:40 PM
@DavidCarlisle well done?

@UlrikeFischer of course

@DavidCarlisle too mean making yummy fries (though looks tasty) out of ducks.

@Raaja well hard to fit anything else in this menu

@KhaledHosny I copied the harf-lua-files into the texmf folder of my luaotfload-Git. Do you have any objection that I push them to the github?

@UlrikeFischer Nope.

7:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle :/

@UlrikeFischer I still need to clean things up and address the open issues, but it won’t work without luahbtex (or luaharfbuzz) so that is a good enough indicator things are still in flux.

8:10 PM
@KhaledHosny I will regularly pull in the changes, but if the files are in a texmf it is easy to run tests.

@UlrikeFischer No objection.

3 hours later…
10:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle you are mean

Jun 29 '17 at 16:15, by Paulo Cereda
@DavidCarlisle you are not mean :)

@DavidCarlisle oh
@JosephWright, @DavidCarlisle: when you think patches break LaTeX...
> Microsoft's Emergency Internet Explorer Patch Renders Some Lenovo Laptops Unbootable

@PauloCereda Oopsie

@PauloCereda simple you just buy a surface instead

@DavidCarlisle S-mode? :)
hm

10:49 PM
@PauloCereda that's "not worth booting" rather than "unbootable"

@DavidCarlisle :)

@PauloCereda What is Microsoft? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer never heard of it :)

@PauloCereda Nor do I ...

@ChristianHupfer it's that big company financing linux development.

10:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle but not initially supporting it ...

@DavidCarlisle I guess 2019 is a good year for new glasses.
