@DavidCarlisle That's the kind of machines you can work on.

@egreg you're the msdos expert

@DavidCarlisle Sorry, I only used PCOS on that kind of machines.
A couple of years later I found a Macintosh Plus. :-)

@egreg all downhill since then

@DavidCarlisle I do not completely agree. These old machines were so large that we had trouble fitting them into our burrows. And they were not water resistant enough to be suitable for ducks. ;-)

@egreg, @DavidCarlisle, @CarLaTeX, @ChristianHupfer Good morning
Good morning to everybody.
@CarLaTeX I have delete my answer correctly. My English is very ugly. Many times I have not undestood the question and I have seen only your picture. sorry

@egreg I trust my sources to translate "google" particularly accurately.

9:13 AM
@Sebastiano Don't worry, the question was not very clear, ciao!

@DavidCarlisle @egreg it has been announced on c.t.t. 5 days ago that the dante server will have to reboot last night a few times and services will be down.
@PauloCereda Get well soon!

@UlrikeFischer Yes, now I remember. :-)

@HaraldHanche-Olsen do you ever get a feeling of déjà vu in this chat room?

@DavidCarlisle Yup, it still happens.

2:58 PM
Get well soon @PauloCereda

3:17 PM
@PhelypeOleinik Thank you!

3:37 PM
@PauloCereda -- do get well soon. (the flu has hit this rehab facility, and everyone is limited to their own room and (for those not having flu symptoms) the rehab room. and it's snowing again; more than an inch already, possibly almost two, but a little hard to tell from inside.)

@barbarabeeton Thank you, Barbara! <3 São Paulo is now in an emergency state due to yellow flu, I am hoping the health agencies act accordingly to reduce the impact. I took a yellow flu vaccine before my trip to Portugal, so it's still valid to date. It would be terrible if the desease spreads...

@PauloCereda Sounds bad

@JosephWright Terrible. And it can spread to neighbour states as well, including Rio.

@PauloCereda Get better soon!

@marmot Thank you, mr. marmot!

3:44 PM
@PauloCereda Is vaccination required for traveling to Brazil?

@PauloCereda -- there are signs up in several places here announcing a similar state of emergency. but the way they're phrased, it sounds like the department of health has actually caused the flu, not just made the announcement. they need an editor!

@egreg Good question, I don't think it is, but I will confirm.

@PauloCereda I hope that yellow ducks are not especially susceptible to yellow fever!

@barbarabeeton It could be a hacker mosquito. :) On a serious note, I don't believe the situation is quite bad as the media makes it sound around here, but what worries me is that our health system is not in good shape to attend so much occurrences.

3:46 PM
@JosephWright Thanks

@JosephWright It also depends where you go. For instance, I went to Mato Grosso do Sul, I simply had to take a shot.
@marmot ooh that's true! For a yellow duck, the fever is always yellow!
Marmots are clever!

@PauloCereda NHS say 'consider' for yellow fever immunization

@JosephWright It's a good advice indeed. There's been a shortage of yellow fever vaccines in SP. They were promised a million doses soon.

@PauloCereda No, seriously, try to see some doctor if it is something really concerning! (Or a ducktor ;-)

@marmot Sure thing! Thanks!

@DavidCarlisle But not any man strikes Google translate?
@egreg Gwgl is the official spelling.

@cfr I didn't go too far. ;-)

5:49 PM
TeX hyphenates submanifold as sub-man-i-fold. The hyphen between n and i looks wrong to me. Perhaps it's the resemblance of the part “subman-” to the derogatory “subhuman” that bothers me.
@barbarabeeton ↑↑ Doesn't the AMS maintain a list of mathematical terms that TeX hyphenates wrong?

Is it only on my monitor or does the green of accepted answers have turned into something .... ugly?

@ChristianHupfer Mine too U_U

@PhelypeOleinik Ah, at least it's not only in my brain ;-) Everything else seems to be as usual

@HaraldHanche-Olsen -- ams doesn't maintain the list, barbara beeton does, for tug. i can't check that here; i need to access a (printed) unabridged dictionary. however, i suspect that this would be a technically acceptable hyphenation, but could be modified by you if you find it objectionable. (i think it's not the best either, but that's subjective.) omitting the hyphen between "n-i" in a \hyphenation{...} declaration shouldn't have too much negative effect on your output. (send me mail, please.)

@HaraldHanche-Olsen @barbarabeeton would certainly know more about this. Morphologically, (or at least etymologically) hyphenating before the "i" would definitely be wrong, but I don't know what the relative weight of syllable based vs morpheme based rules for hyphenation is.

6:00 PM
Isn't Manny the elephant mammoth guy from the Ice Age?

@PauloCereda Yes, i.e. the Han Solo of Ice Age ;-)

@PauloCereda Ah, a documentary about the period when dinosaurs and humans were on Earth at the same time ;-)

@ChristianHupfer and they all danced funky songs in peace. :)

@AlanMunn -- u.s. hyphenation is syllabic, often not morphologic. which is why i defer to webster's 3rd international. (even though i (only very, very) occasionally disagree and decree something different.)

6:06 PM
@PauloCereda You posted worse videos in the past :-P

@barbarabeeton Ok. So then hyphenating at the "i" is obviously a possible place.

@PauloCereda No more cookies for you ...

@ChristianHupfer oh no
@ChristianHupfer In other news, but still related, have you seen this? youtube.com/watch?v=tkh1AZRpbCU Schnappi going metal. :)

@barbarabeeton I already did the \hypenation thing, so no problem for me. I can't find your email anywhere, unless it's okay to use the tugboat one.

6:08 PM
@PauloCereda Where's the Youtube GEMA ban when you need it :-(

@ChristianHupfer ooh I forgot about GEMA! They saved Marco Daniel in the past. :)
Sep 17 '16 at 13:07, by Johannes_B
@Alenanno I am never sure if GEMA is blocking me from stuff i want to see, or GEMA is preventing me from @Paulo.
@ChristianHupfer ^^ :)

@PauloCereda Violation of the Geneva Convention of Human Rights....

@ChristianHupfer oh no

1 hour later…
7:35 PM
@AlanMunn -- i'm pretty sure that "mani-fold" is good. (it's certainly both syllabic and etymological.) i'm sufficiently unsure about "man-i..." that i really need to check the printed unabridged dictionary that is the authority stated for the tugboat list. (oh, it's a drag being incarcerated!)
@HaraldHanche-Olsen -- yup, it's okay to use the tugboat one. (i'll respond from my "usual" address.) if you don't send mail, i'll probably forget, which is why i asked.

@barbarabeeton Mail sent.

8:25 PM
@UlrikeFischer Hello Ulrike, are you online? I may want to buy your LaTeX support.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner I'm online but not the whole day currently.

@UlrikeFischer Ok, I just write you an email then. Thanks for replying.

Anybody around with a spare close vote for tex.stackexchange.com/q/387696/36296? Without knowing the bibliography style (or at least the bib engine) it does not really make sense to guess an answer.
@ChristianHupfer It's not your monitor. There had been some post that colours of the headline etc. have been tuned down, maybe the green got altered too.

@samcarter -- done

@barbarabeeton Thanks!

@barbarabeeton thanks. You wouldn't believe that a candidate is unacceptable to (certain) Christians because there are rumours (fake news, IMHO) that he's a member of Freemasonry. Welcome in the 21st century :-(

@yo' -- maybe it's just the tradition i grew up in, but the masons were honored members of the congregation, and actively participated in the service in their regalia on one sunday a year. and one of my cousins is both a clergyman and a mason. so it's not all christians.

@barbarabeeton I mention certain. It's all basically a hateful thing against him, and picking the E string (E as emotions)
anyway, time to catch some sleep. This time is difficult on mental health, so I should rest a bit.

@yo' -- true enough. i just wish all followers of the bible read it a little more closely and practiced the commandments. sleep well.

11:05 PM
@barbarabeeton oh well, even the Jesus' double commandment (r how you call it) would quite do it!
