@cfr This is the code using the new syntax:
\documentclass{book}
\usepackage[scale=1,angle=0,opacity=1]{background}
\usetikzlibrary{calc}
\usepackage{ifthen}
\usepackage{lipsum}

\backgroundsetup{contents={}}

\pagestyle{plain}

\addtocounter{partshift}{-1}

      \refstepcounter{part}%
      \addcontentsline{toc}{part}{\thepart\hspace{1em}#1}%

@SamB the build tools needing to be present may already be a problem. Not all LaTeX packages contain code to build the documentation, as I understand it.

Dear Phishers: if you checked your phishing emails for grammar and punctuation, they might look a little more authentic.

@egreg crepi il lupo!
@PauloCereda ask David, he has great Google Translate skills :P

@SamB However, the messages by Ben Finney in the JavaScript discussion suggest that. Minifying is a process very similar to creating packages from DTX files. And excuse me, but discussion worth more than a thousand mails over a clearly good license is not worth it.

9:40 AM
@SamB Note also that most people don't upload build scripts (if used) to CTAN, so you argue about the 'build tools' point: I'd argue that they are not the source (useful but not required), but ...

@egreg Wow, 11 downvotes by now?

@PauloCereda poor boy!

@tohecz Houston, we have a problem. :)

@Johannes_B yep, quite easily: spam is almost the only thing that gets downvoted on this site.

10:06 AM
@tohecz but sooo manny times.

@Johannes_B why not? -10 is enough for the post to get locked and deleted, that's what we want to happen, isn't it?

Please, somebody write something. I cannot watch the truck running over the little plane much longer.

Q: Document Blending: An Analysis of the Sex Appeal of Business Instruments

McKittrick Here is what I'm working with so far: \documentclass{letter} \usepackage{background} \usepackage{lipsum} \backgroundsetup{% scale=4, %% change accordingly angle=0, %% change accordingly opacity=.1, %% change accordingly color =green, %% change accordingly contents={...

@tohecz Ah, i didn't know that.

I'm trying to make the sexiest invoice in existence... — McKittrick 6 hours ago
Wat.

10:08 AM
@Johannes_B you probably can't click the link anymore, since the post is deleted and you don't have the 10k rights...

@tohecz I can click the link, but i see the 404 page.

@Johannes_B that's what I meant

@tohecz Trying to slowly climbing up there.

@Johannes_B We once had a little guy being trolled by a tuba guy in here. :)

What is a tuba guy?
@PauloCereda A fellow with the musical instrument?

@Johannes_B The very same. :)

@PauloCereda Poor boy. Thats funny, even if its not ok to do that.

@Johannes_B Tuba people are evil, apparently. :)

@Johannes_B I know :)
btw, anyone interested in Earth Science? I could drag you into Private Beta :)

@tohecz Sounds very dangerous. :)

@PauloCereda "btw, anyone interested in Earth Science? I could drag you into Private Beta Dungeon" :)

10:15 AM
@tohecz ooh! :)

@tohecz Yeah, i made the 1.2k treshold ;-)
@PauloCereda Beware, it might be a trap.

@Johannes_B :)
@Johannes_B: I have a yodelling video on hold, so I can counterattack at any minute. :P

@PauloCereda However, I have \expandafter\@gobble for counter-counterattacking :)

@tohecz Hey, that's not fair! :)
Watch David says emacs counterattacks everything, including emacs. :)

10:39 AM
Phew! Finally enough rep to give out a nice fat bounty :o)

11:09 AM
@PauloCereda Disclaimer: I think now is not the time to say Duck ;-)
The Easter Holidays are coming up. Any suggestions on what to cook? What do you guys cook/eat?

11:25 AM
@JosephWright a latex3 version of that question might have a longer answer:-)
@Johannes_B food

@AlanMunn I've gotta catch up quick!

11:48 AM
@hftf How do you like UMd? I did my PhD there.

@AlanMunn Ah cool. I like it ... though at the moment I'm not enrolled
@AlanMunn See, I spent too much time playing with syntax trees and vowel charts in LaTeX instead of actually finishing homework…

@hftf This is not a good strategy (as you've found out.) Will you be able to re-enroll in the Fall?

@AlanMunn I suppose I need to find out soon

@hftf Yeah, I think so... and you should. (Speaking from experience.)

@AlanMunn The linguistics faculty is nice, I just have to convince them to overlook my bad department GPA first...

11:55 AM
@hftf Have you finished undergrad or is that still in progress?

@AlanMunn Still in progress – I've done 5 semesters worth so far but my credits have been pretty spread out among different departments (physics, astro, math, and CS) which means it'll take longer to reach the minimum for graduation

@hftf Well you're at a great place for all of those things (and linguistics too) so you should take advantage of that.

@AlanMunn Agreed.
@AlanMunn I've got to take a quick nap though — be back sometime later

@hftf Ok. I have to go teach anyway. Nice chatting with you.

@AlanMunn Same here

12:29 PM
@PauloCereda learn German :) Or see if Google translate does any good?

@DavidCarlisle Probably
@DavidCarlisle Bidi is tricky, even with the Omega model, so the comment is not surprising

@JosephWright ‮eurt

3:02 PM
Guys, in my inductive inference model, should I play with problematic packages as well or just stick with the usual compilation steps?

@PauloCereda the former I assume

@DavidCarlisle I'm very tempted to. :)

@PauloCereda meanwhile if looking to avoid work you can try using google translate to translate my reply to Joseph a few lines above into Portuguese

Damn, I had to read my own manual to see what I had written. :)

@PauloCereda I can never remember the commands of frontespizio and the options of imakeidx.

@egreg :)

WOW! ^^^

@egreg Wow!
Hey guys, I was checking the texcount/TeXnicCenter question and decided to have some fun. Look at this wacky result:
Now I'm sure I've written a monster. :)

6:41 PM
@PauloCereda that's normal. I always have to read my manuals in order to use my packages. That's the real reason I write manuals :p

@cgnieder doesn't that mean that you suffer from a badly designed user interface? :P

ppr
What arara does? `The description is not very explicit :$ apt-cache show texlive-extra-utils | grep arara
arara -- Automation of LaTeX compilation.`

@hugovdberg :) no. It means I have way to many options. I always know there is an option. I only never know how it's called

ppr

@ppr texdoc arara should also help

ppr
6:48 PM
@cgnieder indeed! :-=

@cgnieder haha just kidding ;-) I also mostly use manuals to lookup the exact name of a macro or a key :-)
@Johannes_B thanks for the clarification on Kröger-Vink notation by the way :-) I edited the wikipedia article accordingly

7:07 PM
@cgnieder :) Once I get the evaluation process working on runtime things will get very dangerous. :)

7:20 PM
@hugovdberg No problem :-)

@PauloCereda Sounds like fun! :)

@DavidCarlisle You don't really need my upvote, but have one.

Barcelona 0 x 1 Real Madrid. Good game so far.

@PauloCereda Aren't you a fan of Neymar?

@egreg Certainly not. :) A good player though.

@PauloCereda Did Ronaldo score?

@egreg Ronaldo is just watching today (I saw him in the stands). :) Di Maria scored.

8:31 PM
@PauloCereda I'm not looking it. The radio has KV 595 played by Rudolf Serkin. Now the Larghetto. :)

@egreg ooh. :) It might take a while. :) I'll keep you informed. :)

We have also Dave Walden!

Q: how does \includegraphics from the graphicx get the size of a .jpg image

Dave WaldenIs there someplace where I can read about how \includegrapics uses the metadata that is stored with a .jpg image. I have carefully sized 80 images with Photoshop such that the Photoshop's ImageSize data shows the correct size in inches and a resolutions (300ppi) which calculates out to the same ...

@egreg I love Mozart :) I think I still haven't heard a piece by his hand that isn't truly beautiful, although I'm not that much into opera music (neither his, nor other opera's)

@hugovdberg I'm not into opera, too; but I love Mozart's operas.

@egreg I think my main problem is that most operas are too demanding as background music and I don't have the patience nor time to really listen to a full opera

@egreg: Real Madrid 2 x 1 Barcelona. Neymar lost a goal at the last minute. :)

9:29 PM
hmm, looks like my first mortarboard badge isn't going to be earned on tex.sx, but earth science instead (need only 8 rep) :P apparently I do know a bit about those things :P

@hugovdberg I have it!

@egreg lol, well, there are a few 100+ rep days for me, but I'm not experienced enough to quickly answer enough questions on tex, and I don't have the time to slowly answer enough questions :P

@hugovdberg I got it less than a month after joining TeX.SX. :P Probably I didn't know what rep is, at the time.
@hugovdberg IIRC, it was that badge that made the thing interesting. ;-)

@egreg says the Deus Ex Machina of TeX. :)

9:50 PM
@tohecz Hmm, it looks like there is some concern that minified JS files may have been tampered with; I don't think anybody is seriously going to worry about this wrt PDFs from CTAN (unless they have JavaScript in them) ...
@JosephWright I wouldn't really expect even the maintainers to necessarily have any particular scripts to build the docs, though if anything particularly complex is needed, they really ought to upload it ...
for example I think that the -src tarball for cm-unicode should be on CTAN as well as sf.net
