@JosephWright I think that siunitx+datatool question can be adjusted for the alternate row colours. I've added a comment, but here's the mwe:
\documentclass{article}

\usepackage{datatool}
\usepackage{siunitx}
\usepackage{xcolor}
\usepackage{colortbl}

%% table data
\begin{filecontents*}{scientists.csv}
name,surname,age,IQ
Albert,Einstein,133,210.12
Marie,Curie,145,220.12
\end{filecontents*}

%% table design
\colorlet{tableheadcolor}{black!60}
\newcommand\tableheadfont{%
  \sffamily\bfseries
  \slshape
  \color{white}
}
\begin{document}

\DTLloaddb{table}{scientists.csv}

\sisetup{round-mode=places,
         table-number-alignment = center-decimal-marker

Does anyone know how to permanently remove a file from all previous commits in Git ?
Or is it even possible ?
I know it's kind of opposite of the philosophy of the system but I might need it.
I can't seem to understand this link help.github.com/articles/remove-sensitive-data

From the latest TikZ builds :) (Thanks to @PauloCereda)
+	- Reworked handling of edge and vertex paths in gd. In
+ particular, edge--vertex intersections are now computed in
+ Lua, rather than in TikZ. This is much more powerful and
+ allows beautiful arcs between vertices. It is also very
+ useful for planar graph drawings when several edges leave a
+ vertex in the same direction.

hi! anybody around?

@JG Yes

J G
3:38 PM
@JosephWright yay!
@JosephWright I have to admit that I have not used LaTeX in a bit but I will start using it again.
I need to install a version of TeX for windows. i'm wondering whether there is one that you would recommend?
I've used MixTex and Texworks
I believe TeXworks was easier to use but I liked the interface of MixTex

@JG TeXworks is an editor: there are many. MiKTeX is one of the two most common TeX systems: the other, TeX Live, also works fine on Windows

J G
@JosephWright I just remember that I had a very difficult time setting up MixTex to do pstricks or stuff like it
I can't even remember if I'm using pstricks in the end
but I am doing stuff with tikz for sure
I guess I'm wondering ... is it hard to configure?
Do I just download MikTex from the internet and I'm good to go? I seem to remember that was not the case ....

J G
4:03 PM
@JosephWright are you around for a bit?

4:26 PM
@JG More off than on: have to go out soon

J G
@JosephWright oh ok. thanks. i guess i'm wondering which version you'd recommend downloading and how to set it all up again ....

What should we do with this question? The op solved the problem, a local encoding issue. I would close for too localized, but now?

Q: ampersand bibtex fake error

NicholasI'm using the elsarticle template. I must say that I have other citations with &, however I don't know why pdflatex gives me a fake error when I cite. I mean I can see it perfectly on my pdf, but it says that there is something wrong. Do you know why? @ARTICLE{Leung2003, author = {A.Y.T. Leung ...

@Kurt Now it is off-topic

@mafp okay. I will vote.
@mafp There are three possibilities. The first two are wrong. Would you change the free comment for the third to "too localized"?

5:35 PM
@Kurt The first possibility is actually the one to chose: question that are too localized are outside the scope of TX.SX (see Joseph's recent questions on meta). But giving a specific closing text (option three) is a good choice, too, I would go this way.

6:02 PM
Well, the default MikTeX (the Basic version) only installs a small subset of the packages available on CTAN, where the default TeX Live installs almost everything. You can install everything with MikTeX as well though. Also, MikTeX has nice GUIs for package management etc. TeX Live does have some GUIs, but personally I only use the command line.

Either way, both should be fine, don't think it matters much which you choose. All editors work just as well with

J G
@TorbjørnT. thanks. i just thought i remember mixtek being a pain to set up
so in the end, which would you recommend?

6:22 PM
One of them ...

Well, I did switch from MikTeX to TeX Live a while back, but I cannot remember exactly why. I think it was at least partly because I switch between Windows and Linux, and I felt like having the same thing both places. In the end, I don't think it matters much. If you were dissatisfied with MikTeX in the past though, you could always try TeX Live.

J G
i just want to run tikz comfortably. whic hwould you recommend for that?
sounds like you are saying it does not matter

@JG Either. Both should work just fine.

1 hour later…
7:46 PM
OK, back from my long tour.
Not much of a life here, today. ;-)
Anyway, here's the itinerary. Padova, Arabba, Passo di Campolongo (1800m), Val Badia (Abtei in German), Bruneck, lunch in Welsberg (where my mother went to vacation when she was a child), Innichen, crossed Austrian Border, Lienz, Hermagor, Kötschach-Mauthen, Plöckenpaß/Passo Monte Croce Carnico and back to Italy, Tolmezzo, motorway to home. A nice ten hour tour, with gorgeous weather and fantastic mountains.
The crossed regions were Veneto, Südtirol, Tirol, Kärnten, Friuli. Just 666 km. Oh! Does this mean something?

8:33 PM
Taste of things to come:
    !config
    loops: 200
    paths:
    - <arara> /home/paulo/rules
    - <arara> @{paths.home}/potatoes
    - <arara> @{paths.current}/yummy/
where @{paths.current} resolve to the current path of the file being processed. :)
@egreg ooh! :)

@PauloCereda I planned it a bit shorter, but apparently I missed a direction sign; so I made a detour and saw a beautiful lake: Weißensee. Kärnten is very nice.
@JosephWright How did the match go?

@egreg We definitely need to give you a camera. :)

@egreg Tight ending, England won by 14 runs

@JosephWright Wow!
@PauloCereda I'd have to switch it off (at least the audio part) when on a motorway. I sometimes use colourful words when addressing some motorists who think they own the road.

@egreg ooh swearing in Italian. :)
@JosephWright Go England! :)

8:40 PM
@PauloCereda I'm afraid that @AlanMunn doesn't come to the chat after I judged Steve Reich's music ridiculous. ;-)

@egreg :-)

@egreg Nah, he's fine. :)

@PauloCereda Not swearing, actually. I usually invoke some annoying body problem that would force the motorist to urgently stop at the next resting place. ;-)

@egreg ooh!
@percusse could tell us how to swear in Turkish. :)

@PauloCereda Or some painful accident that can happen when crossing one's legs (males only).

8:45 PM
@PauloCereda that's pretty much any sentence in daily conversation :) It's very similar to rap songs

@percusse ooh!

It's crazy to explain the experiment in five pages and show the results in one.
Feels like I did nothing.

9:02 PM
@percusse Experimental science …
@percusse Imagine a math paper where only the theorems are written out. ;-)

@egreg I didn't respond for 4'33.

@AlanMunn The comment was about "Piano phase".
@AlanMunn Maybe more? We'll never know. ;-)

@egreg It's 31° here. My brain isn't working too well. Making John Cage jokes about Steve Reich comments...

9:30 PM
@AlanMunn What do you think about "Piano phase"?

9:55 PM
    England beat Australia by 14 runs
    England: 215 & 375 (149.5 overs)
    Australia: 280 & 296 (110.5 overs)
    Venue: Nottingham

@egreg I really like it. As with most of Reich's music it seems very repetitive, but over a longer time scale it changes, which is makes the experience of listening to it interesting. Piano Phase is really hard to play I think. (Not that that makes it good, but technically it's very hard despite the fairly simple idea.)

@AlanMunn Bach was able to change to a far tonality in a couple of measures.

@egreg Sure, but it's not a competition. :)

@AlanMunn I could get the changes; but I don't change my judgment. Which is not about the double piano, of course, but about the whole idea.
@AlanMunn Keith Jarrett also did something like that. Immensely better.

@egreg Is it the mechanistic way it's produced that bothers you or just the end result?

10:09 PM
@AlanMunn The end result is ridiculous to my ears and sensitivity.

I was playing a game named Injustice: Gods among us and Wonder Woman killed Batman... by throwing the Batmobile at him.
Wow.

@PauloCereda The placement of these comments in the middle of our discussion is hysterical.

@AlanMunn :)
@Alan: get an Xbox so we can play online. :)
@percusse: we could add Alan to our CoD team. :)

@PauloCereda This is the total extent of my gaming: lovemygadget.com/games/mspacman.html

ooh! :) Hey that's not fair, ghosts should never take the shortcut! I want my money back. :)

10:18 PM
@AlanMunn If you'd like an easy route for cycling, here it is: the Drautal from Innichen to Lienz; from Sexten Dolomites to Lienzer Dolomites on a separate track, almost all in gentle descending slope. When you're in Lienz you can catch an hourly train back to Innichen. Hundreds of cyclists, today.

@egreg That looks very nice. Now I just need to get to Italy. :)
@PauloCereda This is a level of Pacman detail that is far beyond my amateur knowledge.

@AlanMunn Well, only a few kilometers are in Italy. Those few kilometers make Italy part of the Danube tributaries.

@AlanMunn :) This is probably not your cup of tea, but I always watch this guy talking about games: escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation (bad language ahoy)

@AlanMunn Did you notice that I know how to spell “separate”? Guess why. ;-)

@egreg You're a contrarian? :)

10:33 PM
@AlanMunn It's from Latin, of course; and in Italian it's “separato”. Unfair advantage, somebody would say.

@egreg Oh well, you'll make up for it when you have to spell 'apartment'. :)

@AlanMunn That's easy as well! In our region double consonants aren't really pronounced. ;-)

11:05 PM
Good night all! The 666 km are doing their effect. ;-)

@egreg Buonanotte! :)
