@mafp None of this was necessary had you had just said I find that offensive. Flagging for moderation means that I'm doing something that I'm not supposed to do and needs mod attention. And I think that's something to be offended though I can't right now. Because I don't feel like it.

@percusse Fine, let's bring that to a happy end: I apologize that you could have been offended by bringing this to such a public level. Next time, I will ask you directly to delete it, or discuss that. I still stand that your message was offensive, even as I am sure now that you did not meant it this way.

@mafp Watch out Happy ending is a very offensive word in a certain context. :) But I fear that you'll flag it if I explain it. The point is I've already posted immeadiately two comments so no problem on my side. But unfortunately I can't accept your complaint because there is nothing wrong about bikinis even for 14 year old ones from Syria and I think that was quite a inappropriate example to put me in a position for just a mention of a bikini.

12:36 AM
@PauloCereda Define WTF, please. So, I do not have to ask myself anymore, which one of the these meanings is the actual one. (grin)
@PauloCereda And: “!!/define <3” … Answer: “Ice cream.”
@Speravir s/WTF/FTW/

@Speravir What the F**k.
@Speravir For the Win?

@Canageek In fact, I did not know this, first. But there’s intentionally something in the parentheses.

Geeze, I leave for a couple months and this room gets full of swearing and sexual innundo.
@Speravir I figured so. If you don't hang out in gaming communities it isn't common. A lot of peple here are older, international academics.
@egreg Man, I wonder how much you could sell a working PDP-10 to a collector for these days.

12:53 AM
@PauloCereda Better: “!!/define <3” Answer “Ice cream, presented with love.”

leo
!!/define AFAIK
Oh, the bot is not here

@leo If you really want to know it: AFAIK - Definition by AcronymFinder (for me the highest rated version).

leo
@Speravir Thanks

1:26 AM
@Canageek Hi, have you graduated already or is this your last semester? How are things? We haven't seen you around for a while.

leo
2:05 AM
let's do a little test

Heya. Tex is awesome.

leo
\documentclass[11pt,letterpaper,oneside]{article}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}
\usepackage[spanish]{babel}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{amsfonts}
\usepackage{amssymb}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{exsheets}
\usepackage{enumitem}
\usepackage{verbatim}
\usepackage{varwidth}

\parindent=0mm

\SetupExSheets[points]{name=punto/s}
\DeclareQuestionProperty{ciclo}

\begin{document}
Hola Mundo
\end{document}

I started using it like a couple of days ago. A week ago I knew nothing but word.

leo
does that compile to someone?

I had a question. Does someone know a package for formatting basic arithmetic things? Like for kids.

leo
2:06 AM
not me

With long addition, multiplication, etc. Some sort of 'carry'

leo
the file where the code is, is named test.tex I do pdflatex test and doesn't work. No errors. Just do nothing

2:23 AM
are there unicode characters for finger counting? o_o
or latex
dum dee dum

@GregRos Yes, hang on a second while I find what it is.

Finger counting? Counting your fingers?

There's the `longdiv` package:
\documentclass{article}
\input{longdiv} % has no .sty version
\begin{document}
\longdiv{numerator}{denominator}
\end{document}

leo
how can check the integrity of pdflatex.exe?

@gregros For simple addition and subtraction problems (and more) check out the xlop package.

2:31 AM
thank you :)

@GregRos Package polynom seems to be good: How to draw polynom division?.

thank you :)

@GregRos I don't think there are unicode code points for these. If you could find a TrueType or OpenType font with the relevant glyphs then you could use XeLaTeX to typeset it probably.

thank you :)

@GregRos You're welcome. And welcome to the TeX world.

2:44 AM
thank you again

8:53 AM
@PauloCereda I'm tempted to say that the solution is simple: just nuke Windows and install Linux ;-)

user19161
9:15 AM
@NicolaTalbot Both their interfaces are starting to look like mobile phones with Windows 8 and GNOME 3.

@JasonBourne I didn't much like GNOME 3 when I upgraded Fedora, but I've got it on the classic thingy setting and I've sort of got used to it.
But it's not really the interface appearance that's the issue here, it's the OP's insistence that a command line program (such as java) shouldn't go on the system path.

@NicolaTalbot Good plan. :)

(And that applications should be written so they can override the systems security settings so that any user can install them in "Program Files".)
@PauloCereda :-)
Well, I can't procrastinate any longer. I need to go back to updating "Using LaTeX to Write a PhD Thesis".

@NicolaTalbot No you should just succumb to the forces of good emanating from Seattle and conform to the accepted Norms.

9:31 AM
@DavidCarlisle Oh, I've just had a flashback to the 1970s and Genesis of the Daleks: "all Norms are our enemies"

@NicolaTalbot Happy days ... I was just listening to Dr Who on Radio 4 Extra.

@AndrewStacey :-)

9:48 AM
Fedora 18 x86 downloaded. Now it's time for the x64 one. :)

@PauloCereda Why, Paulo, Why?! :D

@Timebandit Let me guess: you use Ubuntu, don't you? :P

@PauloCereda y u no use a distribution that isn't full of bugs :D
@PauloCereda Currently I got Mint on my Laptop but normally I use Arch
@PauloCereda are you using the Gnome3 edition or the KDE one?

@Timebandit Cool. :) I've heard good things about Mint (though it's Ubuntu-based), and also great references for Arch. For me, I always go for Fedora (I used RH for a long time, then when the project was split into FC and RHEL) and Slackware (depending on my mood). :)
@Timebandit For Fedora, I stick with GNOME 3 or Cinnamon. :) For Slackware, I go with XFCE, when I need a GUI there. :P

@PauloCereda Ok you used RH its pretty clear that you're going for fedora. XFCE is some awesome WM. Cinnamon is too fancy sometimes

9:58 AM
@Timebandit Fedora, in the beginning, was a very challenging OS. Now, the distro is very user-friendly, I dare say it's as friendly as Ubuntu (without some "feral friendly stuff" that Ubuntu offers), and it's a good choice for the majority of users. :) And you are right, Cinnamon is sometimes too fancy for my taste, that's why I usually install everything for the distro, so I can switch to XFCE. :P

@PauloCereda I tried Fedora a few times but rpm and I aren't the best friends so far. The only way for me to use Ubuntu is XUbuntu. This tabletoptimized interface scares the s**t out of me. And since I'm a total fan of the Trackpoint-mice I hate Ubuntu for changing the location of settings-files with ever major update

@Timebandit hehe I can relate to that. :)

Yay! I got "Good Answer" for a non-TikZ answer.
5

I guess I should try Fedora: it's been years since I've used a RH distro
@AndrewStacey :-)

@AndrewStacey Yay! :)
@JosephWright ooh @NicolaTalbot and I can guide you. :)

10:06 AM
@PauloCereda :-) Yeah, go for it.

i just found out that there are some twitteraccounts for stackexchange boards, is there one for TeX.SE too?

@PauloCereda I assume there is not much to it that's different from anything else. I mainly use Linux as a 'back up': my work Windows system has something up with Xming (not just my PC), so X11 requires a Linux virtual set up.

@Timebandit Yes, there is. :)
@StackTeX, The Stack Exchange network

@JosephWright Ah. :)

@PauloCereda Remember, I have various Windows tools I have to have available, which is easy if the main PC is Windows or using Parallels on a Mac, but is not so straight-forward on Linux

@PauloCereda ahaha :D I was wondering why I cant find it, just to find out that I'm already following :D
who do you create this "link-boxes" anyways?

10:11 AM
@Timebandit Just post a link: the ones that the system knows about are auto-converted

@JosephWright Agreed. :)

@Timebandit For example, @PauloCereda's post says https://twitter.com/StackTeX

Q: Typesetting poems

topskipI have ~250 poems to typeset, consisting of ~40 verses each. 99% are in this form: line 1 line 2 line 3 line 4 line 5 line 6 line 7 line 8 ... The "source" of each poem is a PDF file which I use to copy / paste into a plain text file. Now the task is to format these poems while avoiding to...

if he likes to avoid markup why use TeX?

11:09 AM
topskip = Patrick Gundlach, our LuaTeX expert. :)

oh ok he will have his reasons :)

Patrick loves to hack stuff. :)

Not using markup makes copy/paste much faster so I think I know what he's up to =)
reading through all those question is really frustration it shows how much I don't know about TeX, which is much more then i though :D

11:53 AM
@PauloCereda people who change catcodes...

Q: What is the difference between \def and \newcommand?

Michael UnderwoodInspired by a question about \let and \def, I have some that essentially all boil down to asking What are the differences between \def and \newcommand? In particular, I wonder Is it possible to have parameters passed to \defed commands, both optional and required? Is there a \redef command eq...

I'm sorry I really should have searched.

@GregRos :-)

LaTeX is amazing.

How would I go about writing a command that accepts a variable list of arguments like an array in programming, and concats them all in a specific way?

1:17 PM
@GregRos For a variable list of arguments, you'd probably want to define a command with a single argument that contains the list of values. There are packages available for a comma-separated list of key=value options (such as xkeyval and pgfkeys.)

Too localized?

Q: Strange problem with frames (ConTeXt tables)

user14644When using this code I get a problem with the frame around the header on the last page. It gets the same frame setting as the table. This is a screenshot of what I would expect to see: And this is what I am seeing: Can someone give me a solution to solve this? % TABLE SETUP \setupTABLE[fr...

seems to be a bug (see comments)

Would they allow me to do indexing or enumeration?

@GregRos What sort of thing do you have in mind? Can you give an example of usage?

$1\rightarrow 2\rightarrow 3\rightarrow \dots $

@GregRos You can use the csv parser in etoolbox:
\documentclass{article}

\usepackage{etoolbox}

\newcommand{\foo}[1]{%
 \def\foolistsep{}%
 \renewcommand*{\do}[1]{%
   \foolistsep
   ##1%
   \def\foolistsep{\rightarrow}%
 }%
 \docsvlist{#1}%
}

\begin{document}

$\foo{a,b,c,d,e,f}$

\end{document}

1:31 PM
I don't understand. You define commands within commands?

@NicolaTalbot Very nice code! :)
@GregRos Scope.
:)

@GregRos Yes. The \docsvlist calls the command \do at each iteration. You just define \do to do whatever it is you want done in the iteration.
@PauloCereda Ah, thanks :-)

What are those % things for?
thanks by the way :P

Let me try a L3 solution. :)

@GregRos It's the comment character

1:38 PM
Yes I understand by why, if there is no comment?

@GregRos It suppresses the end of line character, which would otherwise cause an unwanted space.

Oh right. This is actually inserted into the document.
I see. Thank you
This could also be done using those packages that let me write code in other languages though, right?
Theoretically

@GregRos Do you mean something like perltex where you write the macros in perl?

I don't know specifics, but I understand there are various packages that let me write code that gets injected into the document.
There is something in R. Though that wouldn't be the best language for the task.
So yes, like perltex.

1:57 PM
@GregRos I'd just write scripts that generated .tex files and then just input those files into the document using \input or \InputIfFileExists

hmm I see
BTW could there by such a code extension for Haskell?

2:11 PM
@GregRos I've not come across that.

2:23 PM
Bash help please:
How do I use the files that turn up in a search to be moved into a directory?
(irrespective of the way they are named...)

user19161
@kan How did you search for them?

kan
@JasonBourne find -iname

@kan Add -exec mv {} /path/to/the/new/directory \;
Beware of files with spaces in their name, as usual

kan
I'd even be glad if I can come up with a python program that does this: loop over every file in a directory and move it to one of the prespecified directories.
they are the ones creating problem. :)

Wow! I asked this on Stackoverflow and got a good starting point!

Q: Suddenly I cannot compile my bibTex files anymore (Biber, TeXmaker, MacTeX)

ZwähniaI am currently working on a bunch of little assignments for university. Everything was fine until yesterday: All of a sudden when compiling the BibTeX I get an error and can therefore not create my bibliography. I thought it was a problem with some entries in my .bib file. After a lot of very d...

This is the second one of these we've had (at least). The one I linked to was closed as too localized, but this is clearly a general problem, so it would be helpful to have a general enough answer to it on the site.
(Not to mention why the biber folk can't fix this...)

kan
Is someone familiar with shutil?

@kan Open your heart. :)

kan
@PauloCereda Do you know what happens if I attempt to move a file to a non-existing target ?

@AlanMunn I suspect this is more of a Perl issue, but I'm not sure.
@kan Let's check the documentation. :)

kan
I did but nothing understandable there...

4:12 PM
@kan Python version? :)

kan
RT F M ?!:)

@PauloCereda It just seems crazy that users should have to manually delete some bizarre temp files that could in principle be deleted by the program itself.

@AlanMunn Agreed, it is crazy.

@kan Careful, you might get flagged. :)

kan
@PauloCereda 2.7.3 :)
@AlanMunn Yeah, we are a small but well-behaved community and there was a sudden not-so-nice thing happening yesterday!
We are and were nice, but others don't seem to know (esp. the non-regulars)

4:14 PM
@kan Yes, indeed. Let's hope it was a one-time affair.

Let's try it: bikinis.

@AlanMunn For "read the fine manual"? ;-)
@PauloCereda I'll try with "BEER".

@egreg :)

kan
@egreg Fine - that's why the italics. :)
Unfortunately, the human instinct is to always think of that word when asked to think of a word that begins with f and ends with k, although many people have facebook accounts. #irony

user19161
@PauloCereda I hope nobody complains this time. =)

4:24 PM
@JasonBourne :)

user19161
@kan There are also two meanings of FB, facebook and f***book.

kan
@JasonBourne I never used FB.

user19161
@kan I had an account on facebook but deleted it. I never had an account on the other one.

@kan fork? :)

kan
@PauloCereda :) You are one of my heros, so, not surprising.

4:28 PM
@kan <3

user19161
@PauloCereda I am back to Debian. =) I think I won't distro hop anymore this life...

@JasonBourne I don't believe you. :P

user19161
@PauloCereda Neither do I believe myself. =)

My F18 x64 is almost finished downloading. :)

user19161
@PauloCereda WTF! BTW, why don't you just use the live medium?

kan
4:29 PM
@PauloCereda Wow! This long?

@JasonBourne I prefer the DVD. :)
@kan I limited the download speed. :)

kan
@PauloCereda Oh, I see... :)
Makes a lot of sense, esp. if you have other things around like the PSmith. :)

Exactly. :)

kan
PSmith up? :)

4:32 PM
Hmmm. Somehow I'm just not clever enough to make the best of my work day...
But then again, I'm also not earning a six-figure salary...

@StephanLehmke That's hysterical.
Now if only I could outsource our office staff.

kan
@Paulo Did you figure that Python thing out? :'( I have done that mistake yet again.
wrong smilies = hate.

@StephanLehmke watch cat videos? Probably the mysterious "bob" is @PauloCereda, now we know how he codes up Psmith so quickly

@kan I could not find any reference, but it's not clear enough that the parent structure should exist. I think it should. It means, you can copy stuff to /foo/bar only if bar exists.
@DavidCarlisle Hey!

kan
@PauloCereda else, what happens? The file just goes off from the FAT?

4:41 PM
@kan Possibly nothing but an exception. But beware, it's OS dependant.

kan
@PauloCereda I did it and no exception was raised. Badass Python. :)

@kan That would explain the sanity check.
Did you see if the file was copied?

kan
@PauloCereda I saw and the file is not there in its old position and no sign of a new directory.
@PauloCereda yeah, if the default was raise an exception, we don't need assert()... right?

@kan Badass Python, says you. :P
@kan Actually, no. The operation could still mess with your file and throw the exception. The assertion before prevents that part of code to be reached.

kan
@PauloCereda Hmm... Well, I don't know what is happening. I messed with my computer, period.

4:46 PM
@kan Don't say such thing. :(
Hold on, give me some minutes.

@PauloCereda see I knew you knew of such things

@DavidCarlisle <3

@PauloCereda I will be looking out for tell tale signs such as 阿拉拉(鹦鹉)文档

Q: Help with the design of an eye in TikZ

azetinaIn my attempt to create an eye icon to illustrate something in my notes, I came up with the following: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{tikz} \begin{document} \begin{tikzpicture}[scale=0.25] \filldraw[color=black] (0,0) circle (1.5cm); \fill[color=white] (0,0) circle (1cm); \draw[very thick](...

I guess we should call this an eyecon.

5:01 PM
@AlanMunn :D

I spy with my little eye something beginning with T.
@JosephWright: ^^ Blackadder reference.

5:33 PM
Hi guys! All fine?

@Timebandit Hello

5:48 PM
I look around the corner trying to hide from something beginning with P.

6:01 PM
@Timebandit pom ?

@tohecz pom?
!!/define pom

@Timebandit You know, I have a bad keming (kerning)

@tohecz ahahahahah :D now i get it :D
@tohecz It will take some time, till I get all those English jokes :D But I'm giving my best :D

@Timebandit this is a typography joke, not an English one ;)

6:16 PM
@tohecz yeah but I did not now the what keming means in German. I looked it up and had to laugh real hard, my roommate came to check if everything is fine :D

Q: Increase white space between title and subtitle in scrartcl

user1301428As the title says, how do I increase the space between the title and the subtitle in the scrartcl document class?

is it worth mentioning to use \vspace or is this to "dirty"

@Timebandit in this case it is very dirty, because you would put it in the title or subtitle text which may be used elsewhere
@Timebandit still, pom is porn (it's really an international word)

@tohecz yeah i got that pom joke :D

maybe it works better in a longer word: pomography
@David and @egreg left the chat at the very same time: conspiracy!!!

Sep 23 '12 at 21:46, by Brent.Longborough
@PauloCereda BTW, does that maven file have to be called pom.xml? It looks like something else, badly kerned
The origin. :)

@PauloCereda :)

6:26 PM
@PauloCereda Nice :D
@tohecz define you own page using \begin{titlepage} would be overkill i guess

user19161
@tohecz Hey Tom!

@tohecz I don't know about David, but, depending whether I go for the 18:20 bus or the 19:00, I leave my office at 18:15 or 18:55. :) David probably went for a tea^H^H^H^H deserved refreshments after a very busy afternoon.
The eye in @JLDiaz's answer is clearly a right eye; this may be regarded as politically incorrect or maybe even sexist.

Q: Help with the design of an eye in TikZ

:)

@egreg Right eye indeed. :)
@egreg: newbie question: I can't search for { parts when using \xpatchcmd, can I?

6:43 PM
@PauloCereda No, you can't.

@egreg Oh no! :) My awesome plan failed. :)

@PauloCereda I really need to improve regexpatch.

@egreg No, don't worry. It's my fault for not knowing a clever way to patch a command. :)

@PauloCereda Can you give an example?

@egreg Actually, I was trying to answer the question Timebandit linked before (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/94100/…) by patching \maketitle. I found the correct \vskip to be increased, but I'm lazy to redefine the whole command. :P

6:53 PM
@PauloCereda i just read the whole documentation of scrartcl and would say if he only needs this fields he should use his own titlepage

@PauloCereda Train arriving, need to close. See you later

@Timebandit Yes. :) I still would love to patch the command instead. :)
@egreg See ya! Have a nice return to home. :)

@PauloCereda give me a minute, i'll try
@PauloCereda ok i found the implementation. Not sure if he really wants to see this :D

@Timebandit Didn't you redefine \maketitle, did you? :)

@PauloCereda I'm currently redefining the whole \maketitle or better I'm trying to :D

7:05 PM
@AlanMunn I'm done and was accepted into grad school at SFU, I start in May

@Timebandit hehe I was too lazy to do that, hence the patch. :)
@Canageek Hey you! I was thinking about you yesterday, long time no see you around here. :)
Hope everything is fine.

@PauloCereda Lazy is my second name, but its a good way to improve my knowledge
what is a field like author called in LaTeX? Variable? Field?

7:24 PM
@Timebandit LaTeX calls everything commands, TeX calls them all macros, but it is same thing

@DavidCarlisle Shouldn't there be a difference between variable and command?

@Timebandit you mean in some ideal parallel universe? Perhaps. LaTeX3 distinguishes these things in its interfaces and documentation as well as token lists and other types but of course they're all really macros to TeX.
@Timebandit In some formal models of computation there is a difference between ground terms and functions and in others there is no difference between terms and functions of no arguments.

@DavidCarlisle Hearing that, my first thought was javascript scared :D

@Timebandit JavaScript is a strongly typed well structured high level language compared to TeX

@DavidCarlisle λ <3

7:35 PM
@PauloCereda Nice to hear. I've not being doing any writing so I haven't thought about TeX. I'm doing good, and my brother is doing good which makes things even better.

@Canageek Great to hear. ;)

@DavidCarlisle Nope, some of them are registers ;-)

@PauloCereda Seems to be, I'm not clever enough to redefine it. I did what I though was right and everything LaTeX is telling me: File not found :D (surely saved the file...)

@JosephWright Go away
3

@JosephWright Apparently @DavidCarlisle is not doing his homework on xor. :P

7:37 PM
@PauloCereda Indeed

@DavidCarlisle JavaScript is strong for sure, but is scares the crap out of me cause its so powerful

@Timebandit @JosephWright is interrupting the flow of the conversation with truths,

@Timebandit LaTeX is evil sometimes. :)

@Timebandit Try C++ For something really scary

@PauloCereda its evil now!! it wont accept my redefinition :D

7:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh nailed it. :P

kan
@DavidCarlisle well, so, javascript is not scary?

@DavidCarlisle: we should watch more cat videos.

@DavidCarlisle hat to do some C for one semester. the pointers are really nice but hard to handle if you haven't done anything with them before

@Timebandit I know people who used to code in assembly

7:55 PM
We could suggest the OP to get the grammar instead. /ducks

@PauloCereda I think we had a similar question ages ago

@JosephWright Indeed, I seem to recall something.

@Canageek i used to code in assembly...

@Timebandit I'm very sorry to hear that

user19161
I used to think of code during assembly, LOL.

8:02 PM
@Canageek actually it was pretty funny. took me a while to get used to it. we wrote a little game for a C64 ^^

@Timebandit Nice. I've got a C64 collection

@Canageek awesome, let me have look if i can find the game

@Canageek nice!
@Canageek last semester my students hat to write a rogue like game with java
@PauloCereda do you have a second for me?

@Timebandit Sure.

8:08 PM
@Timebandit Hah, yeah, I should actually start working on it.

8:21 PM
Is there a way I can freeze the output of pgfplot until I unfreeze it?
Or some other mechanism

@egreg: I made it!

Terrible Idea.
Parsing a structured language with regex is a bad idea.

@Canageek i could send you some working examples

8:29 PM
Something like \\ [^a-zA-Z]?|[a-zA-Z]+?
@GregRos It's how TeXworks does it

Seriously?
Regex is not for writing parsers.

@GregRos Well, for doing syntax highlighting it's quite popular. In TeXworks, I think regex functionality is built in to the Qt backend for the editor. No idea how other editors work.
A simple approach fails if you change \escapechar, but short of parsing with TeX picking that up might be tricky :-)

What if they want to, I don't know, look at it again after a few weeks.
I'm not going to even ask about maintenance and trying to make regex do semantics.

@GregRos What do you mean by 'freeze'?

@Timebandit Of assebly? I've worked with it for a CPU class, though very basic things.

8:36 PM
@Canageek nope, of a rogue like game with java =)

@Timebandit I last saw Java 7 years ago in a high school class. Now if you were saying C++ I might be able to learn from it

@PauloCereda Heavy rain and some snow. Not a very funny walk.

@GregRos parsing the structure with regex is a bad idea (especially as it isn't possible:-) but tokenising using regex is quite common

@egreg Oh no. I hope you didn't get (too) wet. :(

@Canageek its both object orientated i'll have a look if i find some just a sec

8:38 PM
@Timebandit Sure, just add @gmail.com to my name

@PauloCereda Wet, indeed. But supper was ready and there was a big plate of "crostoli" for dessert.

@egreg Oh my! I love them! :)
Yummy!
Another unexpected mass today. Here I go! Cheerio! :)

@PauloCereda Regarding the patch, just \vskip.5em to \vskip<whatever> would have worked. :) Just find a unique sequence of tokens.

@Canageek i'll send you one of the best. just removing the personal informations ^^

@Timebandit Cool, thanks.

8:44 PM
@DavidCarlisle OK, I was close with the regex

@DavidCarlisle I'm talking about both steps, actually. Having tried using both a parser-combinator and regex, I've found the former vastly superior even for simple languages. Regex is severely limited in its ability to work with semantics.

@JosephWright course depending on the regex flavour you might need ( instead of ( or \| instead of | different systems differ

@JosephWright I mean like, I don't want it to run every time I preview the document, but I'd rather have a pretty picture of the graph there.

@GregRos parsers combinators suffer from languages like tex that can change the lexical analysis on the fly (not that regex would do any better) parsing xii.tex with anything other than a full tex execution engine might be a bit of a challenge

@Canageek Just to warn you, comments are in German ;)

8:48 PM
Parser combinators like parsec can switch parsers on the fly.
I can define two separate parsers and, based on the semantics, pro grammatically send a chunk of code to another parser, and then parse its output.

You may be thinking of a parser generator?
That's base64... right?

Wow i just achieved my first bonus :D

@GregRos No it's TeX. try pdftex xii

@Timebandit Well, that won't be very useful then. v.v

8:54 PM
@Canageek sry but i dont have time to translate the whole project ^^

@Timebandit No worries, I'll probably stick with that tutorial I found, even if it isn't OO

@GregRos No the point is it needs a grammar but TeX doesn't really have a grammar in that sense.

ok, no mail for you :D

Howdy

@Canageek what i said above :D

Are there some beamer torch bearer tonight?
1
Q: How to modify itemize vertical spacing within blocks in beamer?

tomislav-maricI have noticed that when I have "itemize" environments defined within blocks in beamer, that they introduce more vertical spacing between the top and the bottom of the blocks, than vertical text. Since I have a slide with some text filled blocks and directly after, a slide with only "itemize" hol...

Do you mean that the grammer is changed based on the content

@GregRos that's one way of saying it but it's probably more accurate to say there isn't a grammar (at the level of characters)

This is perhaps relevant for the grammar discussion: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/4201/…

@TorbjørnT. wow, and i thought i'll never hear of BNF after my course in theoretical computer science
