Hi, quick question.
I don't know how to describe it. When you make a function without a variable like f(.), how should the dot be expressed in LaTeX?

@JG I would use \cdot.

@JG Mee too. \cdot..

J G
@MarcoDaniel like $f(\cdot)$ ?

@JG Yes

@PauloCereda That's weird. Send me the regex and I'll take a look
@PauloCereda Maybe you need to move the parentheses: ({[^}]*})

@JosephWright: What do you think about this question? In my opinion the question and the answers are not constructive.

Q: wrong indentation after wrapfigure

GunomiriousI have the following problem: I used wrapfigure to include a floating picture. @MarcoDaniel I will take a peek
@MarcoDaniel I'm going to be writing something to the LaTeX-L list soon about keeping a track of 'users'. Later in the week, I hope.

@Brent.Longborough I'm really a regex newbie, so bear with me. :) I suspect that if I move the parentheses, there won't be a group to extract in that position. It's very tricky. :)

Guys, suggestions for our next interviewee?

@PauloCereda I have a Brazilian in mind.

@percusse Yay, Vivi! :)

@PauloCereda forcing your luck I see. It's you or else;
The Military Macaw (Ara militaris) is a large parrot and a medium-sized member of the macaw genus. Though considered vulnerable as a wild species, it is still commonly found in the pet trade industry. A predominantly green bird, it is found in the forests of Mexico, Brazil, Boliva, South America Taxonomy There are three subspecies, A. m. militaris, A. m. mexicana, and A. m. boliviana. The differences between the subspecies are slight and pertain to minor variations in color and size, generally , with the militaris subspecies being the smallest and the mexicana being the largest. @percusse Wow! It's really been a while since I saw one of these beauties. :) The one I usually see around here is our arara-canindé:
The Blue-and-Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), also known as the Blue-and-Gold Macaw, is a member of the group of large Neotropical parrots known as macaws. It breeds in forest (especially varzea, but also in open sections of Terra Firme) and woodland of tropical South America from Trinidad and Venezuela south to Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. It extends slightly into Central America, where it is restricted to Panama. It is an endangered species in Trinidad, and is on the verge of being extirpated from Paraguay, but still remains widespread and fairly common in a large part of mainland S...

OK, my next project is as follows:
I'll write a package named funnyfig which will replace the boring black square from the demo option of graphicx, when a figure is not found. A: Is there a script that reads a TeX file and replaces every instance of a \newcommand?

Brent.LongboroughThis answer is a complement to Paulo Cereda's answer -- I've made it CW. As it stands, the regex he uses doesn't support nested brackets, and, indeed, the language doesn't allow for nested, recursive structures of arbitrary depth. That said, we can robustify the regex for one additional level o...

@Brent.Longborough Sweet Mother of God! It's amazing!
Thank you Brent! :)
I'll upvote it ASAP. :)

@PauloCereda LOL, I had to put an ice bag on my head - steam was coming out. I hope it blew your mind!
@PauloCereda Did you like the r"..."? Makes things a little bit easier

@Brent.Longborough It surely blew! :) I bow before your epic programming skills. :)
@Brent.Longborough Sure did! I should give Python another try.

Yoda says: "Programming skills there are not, scars only"

I have a suggestion: why don't we make my answer CW, so we both can improve that code? :)
Or we can also improve the code in loco.
In both cases, CW it is. :)

4:51 PM
@PauloCereda No, I'm perfectly happy for you to gather points. There's another thing you can do in Python, by currying the substitution, but I'm not exactly sure how to do this in this case.

@MarcoDaniel No, I wasn't at the Cruise Day. Reminds me of work. ;-)

@Brent.Longborough Really? I need to go back to good old Haskell. Currying was so epic. :)

5:22 PM
@AlanMunn This is quite beautiful. I'd hope to see a version with all diacritics and then someone to make a LaTeX package for it!

5:47 PM
@PauloCereda I've just aded a rework into my answer. One-pass!!!!

@Brent.Longborough Very clever! :) A great implementation indeed. :) And I love your note about \newcommand. :)
@Brent.Longborough: Can I ask you to un-CW? It's a great answer which deserves rep for you. :)

@PauloCereda No, I don't think that's reversible. Don't worry, be happy. It's not TeXrep!

@Brent.Longborough Brent a.k.a. the Python Master. :)

@Brent.Longborough Thank you for your answer. I seem to concur with Paulo. Please un-CW your answer, as in flag it for a mod so he'll unCW that...Please....

@AlanMunn Sorry, I know I'm a grumpy, antediluvian, conservative git, backwoodsman, and Moustache Pete, but I think that's really ugly, especially the 'fraktur' f. Looks like someone went into the type foundry with a blowtorch. (Which isn't a bad approximation to what happened?)
@egreg It's called dolce far niente, I believe :)
@PauloCereda Mind you, I think it would be better also to pre-compile the substitutions into the dictionaries as hoisted functions...
@PauloCereda And, of course, `% \newcommand{\lalala}{lalala} also fails miserably.

@Brent.Longborough Oh I'm getting scared now. :)
@Brent.Longborough Really?! I'm about to ragequit that code. :P Python is spooky.

@PauloCereda I'm not going to do that right now, as it will take a bit of research and experimentation, and I'm going to İstanbul on Tuesday. But maybe next week, I'll blow your mind even further
@PauloCereda Of course, I only do this for two audiences: (1) "Don't you hate this person", and (2) "Wow, isn't this guy just brilliant". To be taken with a grain of salt. LOL

@Brent.Longborough LOL I'll try to do my homework and learn more about the Python stuff. :) Regexen are evil, I try to avoid them the best I can - como o diabo foge da cruz. :P
@Brent.Longborough LMAO you are my hero!

Is Lua pattern matching also regexes?
Or does it have cool recursive stuff
@PauloCereda Thank you!

@Brent.Longborough I depends how a certain language gives context to the pattern matching concept. :) In the case of Lua, even in the manual reference, the author claims about interesting features which are complex to be achieved with "normal" regex: stackoverflow.com/questions/2693334/…
