@FAE I think we're all guilty of this one.
Although I think more often than not someone will leave a comment before it's closed (or shortly thereafter).

FAE
@Wipqozn I've gone back several times to leave comments on closed questions where none of the closers left a comment. People usually fire their VTC and don't look back.

The most important point to be made here was made in The Bridge so I'll repost it:
If you don't want to take the time to write constructive criticism to help a new user, don't comment at all.

Q: Reduce the threshold for comment deletion with flags

Robert HarveyI have it on good authority that it takes six flags from ordinary users to delete a comment. This makes no sense; it only takes five community votes to close a question, and three to delete a post. Comment flags are not surfaced to 10K users. That makes it harder for the community to handle...

@FAE Not leaving comments is preferable to leaving rude comments

@BenBrocka Yeah, that Wipqozn guy is a handsome genius. he makes all the good points.

FAE
@BenBrocka I do agree with this, but it's still a bit disheartening to see.

There is always a close reason and a link to the FAQ on every closed post (along with a hint that you can improve it). People don't read them as often as they do comments, but it's not like they're completely left in the dark either

@BenBrocka I think this is part of the reason some people don't leave comments, because they feel the close reasons are enough.

I don't really think so. Comments are a lot of work and sometimes you get bitten. I've closed without comment before too.
You can't expect that kind of dedication out of everyone. You can expect civility out of those who do

12:49 AM
@BenBrocka Okay, when I said "I think so" I meant "I know so" because I've known a few users who have said that's why they don't comment on all questions when closing.
but yeah, I agree with you.
Sometimes leaving a comment can just result in you getting into the middle of a shitstorm.

That too, but even without that risk, leaving a comment every time is a lot of effort

Can't upvote FAE's comment enough.

@GraceNote I can ;)

@GraceNote And now you can too

@StackExchange Adding an SE employee and global moderator to the list of room owners is slightly pointless, it doesn't change any abilities at all.

@FAE Yeah, I didn't mean the closers, sorry if that wasn't clear. I just meant that the community as a whole is good for leaving a comment if they see one hasn't been left yet.
Just not good enough, obviously. should close votes should be left a close is completed.
since close votes*. Zeus damn it.
wait, no comments.
Let's just pretend that sentence didn't happen./

@Wipqozn You can edit y'know. :P

@FAE not when you don't notice until 10 minutes after you left the message.

Came across this on meta, and I don't see many bad comments on that post so I guess they're deleted? I have a small question, how can we see deleted comments (they don't show up in normal revision history) or are they only visible to 10k+ users?

@Alok Only moderators can see them

And even then you have to go looking for them
