2:18 PM
Anyone else watch any of the OWL?

2:58 PM
@StrixVaria I've watched some of the VODs, nothing live.
Played a QP game last night where we used the Mei wall strat on Point A of Anubis, the other team obviously didn't know how to counter, and it was glorious (although we did eventually give up the first point)
We weren't as organized as a pro team getting up there, and I left the Ana behind on the first wall.
(We didn't go with a typical comp, and I stayed as Mei throughout the match.)

I'm having a lot more fun watching OWL than I remember having watching LCS (the LoL league).
I didn't expect that either, since FPS is notoriously hard to get the perspective right on.

3:30 PM
I think the spectator changes they've made first for the world cup has improved the viewing experience immensely. Always knowing which team is the "away" team, and therefore in white, helps a lot with distinguishing who's who.
Not having to worry about red/blue confusion when spectating a red team member is the biggest thing, since red is always the enemy when actually playing.

Yeah that's a huge improvement for sure.
It was unwatchable with red/blue.
I think there's more...constant action maybe?...in Overwatch.
Like the second the doors open it's full force battling.
There isn't a 10-15 minute ramp up period that sometimes is interesting but usually is just standard.

Laning phase has some interesting strategies but yeah it's kinda bog-standard boring.

I'm not sure if my interest is because I'm closer to the game over Overwatch as a player though.
I haven't played LoL in years but I kept up with NALCS.
I have played Overwatch recently and watching OWL actually made me play a few rounds this weekend.

I haven't played Overwatch in forever because the login scheme doesn't play nice with my hotel wifi.

3:38 PM
I can literally play any other game.
PUBG, Warframe, even a bit of Starcraft 2.

You should try to log in somewhere just to get the 100 league tokens before february whateverth.

@StrixVaria Can I do that on the mobile app?

No I think you have to log into Overwatch proper.

Although I know that thing is just a glorified authenticator.

You can get another 100 free tokens by signing up for OWL notifications from some site.

3:39 PM
Ugh, that means I have to move my computer to the house.
Which means I might as well move back in.

But if you have a laptop just go to a coffee shop for 5 minutes or something.

Which is problematic because we're in winter storm mode and the house's heater is borked.

Is your house ready to be moved back into?
:(

@StrixVaria If it wasn't January, it'd be fine.

@Yuuki Well that's something at least.
Do you get snow there or is it just the cold?

3:48 PM
@StrixVaria Normally it's just cold but we just got an arctic front today.
Rain, sleet, etc.
Which means that the roads will be iced over by nighttime.

Ew.

I expect a lot of crashes today and tomorrow.

Freezing rain is the worst, it just instantly puts a sheet of ice on everything.

Houston drivers are about as experienced with driving on ice as our Overwatch team is with KotH.

I mean Pine is a little much, but the first match was pretty bad.
I'm hoping Houston does better next week, I bought 2 Houston Outlaws skins with my free 200 OWL tokens.
Zenyatta and Moira.

3:51 PM
@StrixVaria Pine?

@Yuuki Pine is the player on NYXL that solo-carries KotH maps but doesn't even play on other map types.

Ah, I was talking about the match against Philly.
Lost 3 rounds of KotH 100-0.

Yeah that was terrible.

At least they put up a fight on the last round but ugh.
I haven't really been paying attention to OWL but each team has 10 players?

No it varies.
The Mayhem have exactly 6.
Most other teams have subs.

3:54 PM
Ah.
Houston needs to pick up some KotH subs then...

The Gladiators 4-0ed the Shock and then got 4-0ed by the Dynasty.
And both of those were the "predicted" outcomes.
@Yuuki They did a little better against NYXL when they subbed out Jake for Clockwork IIRC.
Yes, they did do that, and they still lost 2-0 but I don't think it was 100-0 either round.

4:24 PM
I'd like to see them bring substitutions to the world cup, 10 to 12 player teams, of which you can "dress" 8 or 9 of them for each match.
