Q: Why didn't The Mountain enforce Cersie's order?

KharoBangdoIn S07E07 "The Dragon and the Wolf" of Game of Thrones, while Jaime is preparing his troops to march to Winterfell, Cersie pulls him aside & tells him she means to double cross the rest. She has no intention of helping Dany & Jon. Jaime says he made a promise to fight for the living & he inte...

Hi y'all

7:29 AM
@JAD rytsas! Skorkydoso glaesa?

JAD
you what now?
@Kepotx related question, if she has a valyrian steel weapon, why was she commisioning a dragonglass weapon?

for more versatility than a simple dagger i think

@JAD it's the high valyrian (minus a couple of bars over letters as I'm on mobile) equivalent to 'hello! How are you?'

I guess it's a dagger that can be put on the end of a shaft, so triple weapon : dagger, spear, quaterstaff
depending on combat style, she choose the weapon

JAD
why not make that out of the VS dagger? :P

7:41 AM
so, in close quarter, dagger, but in open battlefield, spear
because the design isn't suited to be fixed on top of the shaft i guess
also, this spear-dagger can be mass-produced

JAD
Also, as to your question, I suppose for similar reasons she said "only once or twice" when asked whether she used Needle. Not wanting to come off as a murderous psychopath that is armed to her teeth

true

JAD
@Kepotx thats possible yeah, more slicy than stabby would make it meh as spear

also, the handle is suited to be held by hand

@JAD the way she said it made it pretty clear that she's done a bit more than using it for defence purposes a couple of times though

JAD
7:46 AM
it's still the understatement of the century
and kind of dodging the question

Yeah, sure

@JAD she killed more people without needle I guess

JAD
8:01 AM
@AnkitSharma not so sure. Depends howmany times she killed off-screen as member of the faceless men
Although, I don't really remember how she killed all the Freys. Was that poison?

Poision

I get the impression she hasn't really used Needle that much

@TheLethalCarrot I also though same
How she killed that faceless thing?

JAD
@TheLethalCarrot > "The Night's Watch takes no part in the wars of the Seven Kingdoms," Jon reminded them when some semblance of quiet had returned. "It is not for us to oppose the Bastard of Bolton, to avenge Stannis Baratheon, to defend his widow and his daughter. This creature who makes cloaks from the skins of women has sworn to cut my heart out, and I mean to make him answer for those words … but I will not ask my brothers to forswear their vows.
"The Night's Watch will make for Hardhome. I ride to Winterfell alone, unless …" Jon paused. "… is there any man here who will come stand wit
that's at least his speech in the books
or the end of it

I never did a full rewatch so could be totallywrong but we only see like 3-5 kills with Needle don't we? Stable boy, Polliver and the Waif

JAD
8:05 AM
Walder Frey too I thnk

@JAD In the show the killing is for bringing the wildlings through, I can't remember if he planned on facing Bolton before his death or not... it was certainly talked about though
Doesn't she just use a dagger for Frey?

JAD
@TheLethalCarrot I don't recall
@TheLethalCarrot Could be. The trigger for the thing in the books is the murder of King Beyond the Wall dude. I don't think he is in the show anymore

Mance?

JAD
ye

Stannis burned him a while back
Jon shot him before he burned to death

JAD
8:08 AM
and no swapperoo with Lord'o'Bones

No
And even if there was Tormund beats the shit out of him at Hardhome I think

JAD
So then in show canon you're probably right. BoB wouldn't've happened without the murder. In the books it would though (assuming he does resurrect)

Aye probably

Did that quote come from that question on here the other day or did that question borrow the quote?

Somebody send this meme
And movies and scifi both had this question

Q: How is Gendry supposed to fulfill Arya's request?

LilThere are no dimensions. How is Gendry supposed to make it? Is it a blowgun? A spear? What materials does it require? Gendry is supervising the forge for thousands of dragonglass weapons and Arya comes to him with this little drawing. Is he a joke to her? How is he supposed to make what Arya w...

Q: What is Arya's weapon design?

ReedIn season 8 episode 1, Arya asks Gendry to forge her a dragonglass weapon (which we can see drawn). What is the purpose of this weapon?

But this meme is better fit for scifi version ;)

Supposedly the question got the quote from FF

What is FF?

ohhh
Reddit is a dark black hole I stay away from
Are adult meme joke on topic here on scifi or not?

JAD
probably 'depends'
is it a Scifi/Fantasy adult meme joke?

The same ruling is what SE enforces site wide

to be pedantic, these are not duplicates. One asks what is this weapon, the other asks how could Gendry know what she want, and how to forge it without further details

@TheLethalCarrot but scifi have past and little more sensitive then ANime or movies
@Kepotx I never said duplicate, just said related to the meme

@Kepotx They're on different sites as well

JAD
11:06 AM
arguably it could be closed as unclear, or too broad, since it asks like a million questions
@Kepotx latter question is probably going to have to be handwaved though. not that interesting

well, the answer is obvious. AutoCAD is not invented yet in westeros

JAD
> He probably follows up on the design offscreen
or something like that

@Kepotx lol agreed

JAD

@AnkitSharma the word zero doesn't appear in any of the five books
so.... inconclusive?

JAD
@AnkitSharma bigger animal better: Infantry < Cavalry < Elephants/Oliphaunts < Dragons

Elephants lose to horse cavalry virtually always IRL.
Well a determined horse-mounted force.

JAD
1:28 PM
hmm, LotR cheated by upsizing their elephants

They are easy to frustrate once the Horsemen recover from the shock. And once they retreat, they cause chaos in their own lines.
Not to mention, the instant demoralisation when people see their behemoths getting whipped by enemy cavalry

@Aegon not really elephants :P

JAD
@AnkitSharma might not seem that way, but the horses were actually really small
normal sized elephants though :P

@AnkitSharma Aye OP elephants rather haha. But real elephants in real battles don't generally fare well against Cavaliers.
But they still have a shock value and can cause the horses to shy away and retreat in the first encounter at least
Once the horses become accustomed to them or if the riders are resolved to win, the tables turn. And they turn hard.

hmmm
@TheLethalCarrot kind of

1:32 PM
Two IRL examples of Horses beating elephants: Hydaspes and Qadsiyah

JAD
didn't the romans also win against elephants by using trumpets to scare them? In the cathagan war?

Just cheat LotR style and upscale them massively, GoT is fantasy after all :P

JAD
^ elephants haven't been on-screen yet have they?

@JAD I believe so. Dunno much about Punic wars but since Hanibal lost, its safe to assume Romans dealt with his elephants alright.

Not in the show
I think they're seen in the books

JAD
1:33 PM
@Aegon the question then arises whether dothraki would be unfamiliar with elephants

@TheLethalCarrot Well we do have Mammoths in ASOIAF. Does that count? :D

JAD
@TheLethalCarrot Same golden company iirc

@JAD I believe so. The closest they have seen are dwarf elephants of Volantis.

Aye and true we have seen mammoths so maybe elephants will be normal sized

Its doubtful they have seen even those. Volantis never lets them near the city

JAD
1:35 PM
but it's also kinda doubtful none would ever show outside of volantis

just made an answer, but tl:dr version: elephant make enemy shat themselves

Plausible. People might use them to haul goods from countryside to the city

@JAD best way they did these is bu burning pigs
the screaming pigs made elephant berserk

JAD
interesting
and kinda mean
although that would work well for daenerys. Just part of the process of preparing food for the dragons

well, slaughtering pigs when winter is coming is not the best idea
better burn the lannisters. They scream the same, and it's a better acceptable lost

JAD
1:38 PM
but dragons eat what they want anyways
so you might as well chuck their food towards some elephants first
@Kepotx turns out from last episode, people tend to dislike that

Elephanst are silly for war
Dragons are better

@JAD Rhaegel will turn vegan. Calling that s*** now.

@Kepotx lol

So Episode 1 Jon Snow basically rode a dragon. And dany didn't suspect anything?

I think Dany does, Jon doesn't really, he's a slow learner

1:41 PM
Her facial expression didn't betray anything. She was all playful and c***

the one whom i wait to react was tyrion

DO Dany even love anyone?

with all the books he read about dragons and history, he is supposed to know only targs can ride dragon

At least now we know Tyrion's disapproval of Jon's nocturnal visits to Dany's chambers wasn't because he loved her himself.

@AnkitSharma Dany loves Jon

1:42 PM
and velaryon/dragonseeds

@Aegon Sure about that?

@AnkitSharma Dany loves her people and her loyal retainers.

@TheLethalCarrot until she find someone hotter ?

@TheLethalCarrot That's what's my impression. Of the whole Varys~Davos~Tyrion meeting

For season 6 episode 10 'The Winds of Winter', the script reads at one point: "Dany is staring into the distance so Tyrion is able to watch her from up close. Goddamn but she is beautiful.

"He watches her for a beat too long and turns away. Lost in her own thoughts, she doesn't notice that he's flustered."

Season 7 episode 4 'The Spoils of War' makes this even more obvious. During the scene where Tyrion watches Jaime putting himself in mortal danger by charging at Daenerys and her dragon Drogon, the script says: "The brother he loves races towards his probable death at the hands of the qu

1:43 PM
I don't understand all the Dany hate

@Aegon then?

She's probably one of the few decent people in the whole series.

Jon and Dany do love each other according to D&D, will be interesting to see their reactions to the news
When face to face

@Aegon she is booooring, do nothing much, rape victim turn wife , turn girl next door looking for hot and hot new husbands

Will probably be a bit like this:

1:44 PM
@AnkitSharma A bastard is not a fit consort for a Queen? Taking up with him could cost her with an opportunity to forge a better alliance?

@Aegon Jon is most decent, he don't fuck around, take oath seriously, love his family, do as good as he can and he do know stuff

Doesn't take his oath that seriously when he hot legs it out of there

@AnkitSharma She rose up from a sold item to a Queen, became leader of her own people on her husband's demise, smashed the slave trade, conquered ancient cities and tried her best to be a good ruler. Pretty impressive. We do not think twice about male characters' love lives, I don't begrudge her finding her own comforts.

Dany just want to be queen because his brother told her to be which she let die. Loved her rapist and then moved on so quick fucked around with more people and abandon them to get a throne because she is daughter of a person who love burning people

@AnkitSharma I said one of the decent people ;) Not the most decent. Jon hasn't showed me that he took Aemon's advice yet. "Kill the boy". He keeps acting the boy. Dany has killed the girl. She can be gentle and stern, whatever the situation demands.

1:48 PM
I think Jon has killed the boy, he's just a grumpy teenager instead now

Dany killed Sam's family, she is no better then Stannis for the hunger of the throne

So, she's not supposed to kill her enemies?

@AnkitSharma Viserys killed himself. She wants to be Queen to make a difference and because its her birthright as the last Targaryen. Most monarchs in history are monarchs because their parents were monarchs.

Dany, Bran and Sansa I want to see dead sooner

It was a strategic decision, probably not the best one considering she killed Dickon as well, but it was strategic

1:50 PM
@TheLethalCarrot they did nothing bad, she can capture or use later, no need to kill everyone

@AnkitSharma Sam's family refused her offer to swear fealty to her. Those who refuse the kind offer after getting defeated get death penalty. ITs nothing personal

@TheLethalCarrot Dickon was the last of cute guys left in show, killing him turned me off

@AnkitSharma Oh yeah they did nothing bad like lead an opposing army in the fight against her....

@TheLethalCarrot so she is like her father, burn them all?

JAD
@TheLethalCarrot according to the Dutch Red Cross that was a war-crime
kinda funny. The Dutch Red Cross did a full watching of the series, determining who committed the most war crimes. Dany won

1:52 PM
I smell HNQ

JAD
Robb Stark committed the fewest

@AnkitSharma Aerys burnt people over imagined treasons. Dany burned people over real treasons.
@JAD Well I'd hate to be a Dutch soldier :P

@Aegon but dany is pale and she killed my Dickon

@JAD He didn't really get a chance to fulfil his destiny :P

JAD
Apparently the burning of provisions meant for the people of King's Landing wasn't nice either
@TheLethalCarrot his only crime was taking hostages

1:53 PM
Oh you meant burning prisoners. I thought you meant fighting your enemies was a war crime

Well he killed whoever it was on his own side

JAD
@Aegon Dutch soldier? That was the geneva convention

@JAD That's because the show white washed Northmen

JAD
@Aegon hehe, a lot of the riverlands on fire were the Starks too, but that was all off-screen

By responsibility of command, he's guilty of all the atrocities inflicted on Riverlands and Westerlands by his armies

JAD
1:55 PM
off-screen, so it was forgiven. OTOH, he did provide health-care for his enemies after battle
I think the Red Cross particularly liked that one

Volantenese volunteers did :P He only didn't stoop to hinder their operations

JAD
:shrugs: itssomething.jpg

Lannisters provided Maesters to Northern captives too at Harrenhal
So technicallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy, they did a better job? :P

#GoodGuyLannisters

JAD
#BothSides
@Aegon was that before or after the torture?

1:58 PM
@JAD After ;) Didn't want the Goat to die too soon

Well the White Walkers give the best treatment to their soldiers, resurrecting them, making it so they can live in an unlivable state
#BestGuysWhiteWalkers

As if we didn't have enough reasons to root for the undead army already

The amount of jobs they create is just top notch

Write WWG a strongly worded letter

As soon as you tell me what WWG is

It's a normiebook page. Whereever the Ws go

3:22 PM
About the elephants I'm still not sure if it's because they lacked the budget or if we're going to get this surprise later on where the GC is actually on Dany's side and have sent the majority of their forces north to help her
And the rest to surprise switch sides against Cersei

3:38 PM

not sure how could they do this
I mean, it's not like that she won't ask questions if there are only 500 guys instead of 20.000

The other 15,000 died in transit because they cheated in dice

yup

Or did Euron cheat?
I don't know
Someone cheated

and elephant cheat too

3:39 PM
Someone cheated
Hah
BTW, is it clear from that meme that the dinner was actually a Northman?

also, GC need euron's fleet

The meme is not as well received on FF as I had anticipated

I don't understand it to be honest

It might be implied but it isn't clear

Aw shucks
I am gonna delete it then
